Back then when there weren't set ideas in the Pokémon games and the concept of starters wasn't the same as it it nowadays, this was the new generation.
Basically, they were counterparts to the starter Pokémon we know, inheritors of the role, the new Charizard, Blastoise and Venusaur.
How did they fare? Were they worthy successors to the top Pokémon from the time?
What's was and is your opinion on the Johto starters?

I personally love them, but I think their simplicity makes them a bit forgettable to new fans. For example, I didn't really appreciate how cool Typhlosion was until I grew older (I was always big fan of Feraligatr and Bayleaf though).

Bruxish is a clear reference to XTC.

Is there a list of moves that can can only be learned/taught in previous generations?
I've completed every game since gen 2 and was going to reset everything after I transfer my pokemon to the bank. Are there any cool things exclusive to older gens worth teaching pokemon before trading them up?
I was already planning on giving some pokemon all the ribbons from each game.

If nobody has played the hack you listed you win. No prizes or anything besides being a smug bastard on the internet.
I'll go first. Don't remember the name of this hack but it was a game boy color era hack where you could only catch specific pokemon. Random encounters couldn't be caught, only planned encounters as the story progressed or areas were explored. The battle system wasn't turn based in the way the official games are. It was more like Final Fantasy where you have a bar that loads up in a certain amount of time depending on your speed stat and once you used a move you had to wait for it to reload.
It might seem like I'm cheating since the name escapes me but I guarantee this game exists and is dope as shit
