Shouldn't it be Kirk?

It should be Kirk alone.

Star Wars had loads of good games because Lucas bet big on vidya with Lucasarts. I don't think CBS/Paramount/Viacom/whoever the fuck owned Trek at any given time ever made any big pushes into development/publishing like Lucasarts.

But there are a couple pretty good Star Trek games. Elite Force was good for its time, Starfleet Command 2 is fun, Birth of the Federation is great even if it's mostly a MoO2 clone...

>>

Elite Force was fucking awesome

>>
Why was Janeway promoted to admiral instead of executed for her war crimes?
>>
>>14085
Because Starfleet saw her as the captain who got her crew home from across the galaxy, dealt a serious blow to the borg and brought back tons of knowledge and technology.

She wrote the reports so they only know what she told them.
>>

Warcrimes?

The TNG era (TNG, DS9, VOY) is the bulk of Star Trek totaling in 21 seasons of television and 4 movies.
The TOS era is only 3 seasons and 6 movies which take place later. (Abramsverse doesn't count)
Also, TNG was the peak of Star Trek's mainstream popularity. No one watched TOS when it was actually airing, only later in syndication.
>>
>>14085
Surviving 7 years in an unknown part of space while killing half the Borg is a pretty big feat

Breaking the prime directive, aiding the borg faction, helping the borg species to commit genocide, giving the holodeck tech to a race after knowing that it can create sentient lifeforms basically condemning them to be slaves, breaking the temporal prime directive in an attempt to destroy all the borg forever
>>

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PtxEIF6y0JU
>>
>>14087

Remember when Janeway said they wouldn't trade tech, specifically replicators and weapons? She goes back on that in Scorpion, and trades the Borg (whom the Federation is at war with) a weapon that she knows the Borg will use to try to assimilate (genocide) species 8472 in return for a shortcut through their territory, rather than take the long way around.

What were Picard and the E doing during the Dominion War?

I was excited for the new series when I saw who was cast as the captain but then had my hype sucked away when they said the protagonist is his strong independent black woman #1. Star Trek was never about a protagonist, it was about the crew as a whole.

That deserves decoration and promotion to admiral a lot more than most of the faggot admirals we meet in the series, who all have some evil scheme they're doing in the background.

>never discarded Starfleet principles like Captain Ransom did

Dominion War is mentioned in the film, so it's either during it in the later stages or after it.

Picard was also the closet thing to a "real" naval captain Star Trek has ever approached in a character. He was intelligent, confident, an admirer of the fine arts, of history and of literature. He had diplomatic skills. He maintained a proper distance from the crew at all times and wasn't really anyone's "friend" but instead was their leader.

No other captain I believe played this part as well as Stewart did.

Yea but Kira was cute.

I had a massive hardon for her when DS9 aired.
>>
>>14210
It just hit me that DS9 would never have made it in today's world. One of the main characters was literally a terrorist.
>>
>>14210
Agreed. She was easily the worst character in the series, and that's saying something as they loved to have those kids often.
>>
>>14210

I hated Kira at first too, I only got to the "shes tolerable now" stage when I finished it.

Any time Kai Winn was on screen, or just that lady in general, I wanted to kill her.

She was awful to look at and listen to. Not only is that religious jargonriddle nonsense the Bajorans speak a complete bore to have to endure, every word out of that womans mouth also had the holier than thou bullshit added on.

Winn was fucking awful throughout the whole thing.
>>
>>14210
>>14215
Those episodes in TNG/DS9 that deal with terrorism/refugees are headscratchers nowadays.

Wasn't Ensign Ro supposed to be Kira in DS9 but she declined the role? I always loved her episodes in TNG.
>>
Why did Wesley become a wizard
>>
>>14204

DS9 was only good in regards to the arcs revolving around the non cardassian/bejor characters like cisco and his reconciling his past, chief obrian, dr hashir, quark, and the chick with the worm, warf etc etc

when they go into those protracted war/good vs evil arcs it just gets stupid

Even TNG got really lucky when it came out, a lot of the people who worked on it didn't think it would last as long as it did and by the time it got through it's mediocre first two seasons the show really came into it's own.

3/4/5/6 are great television and even 7 has a few gems despite turds like Sub Rosa.
>>
>>14217
I would argue that. Winn was awful and smarmy yeah. But you actually see her character grow/change and you even understand her.
Meanwhile the Kira episodes that try to put light on her past...always fall short and just leave off at "lol, cardasssians were bad so its fine".

Winn had real growth(until the very end when those last story arcs of Space Jesus v Space Devil ruined most everyone) and you feel sorry for her. She shuts down the cunt Kira as she explains how what she did was HARDER than her "lol kill carddie civs". She suffered through the occupation AND tried to keep her peoples religious spirit alive.

Her being a major cunt for most of the series is understandable. She fought for years to keep her people alive, and their spiritual legacy going....and then a fucking human star fleet asshole out of nowhere shows up, is acclaimed Jesus and now he is there to save them all. She went from Kai, helping sheparding her people to Kai i take my orders from Star Fleet while we arent even in the federation because fucking Space Jesus. Her actions have at least a cause behind them.

NOW having said all that, i fucking LOATHED every bit of the bajoran religion shit and how it ran counter to ever Trek before it. ESPECIALLY after showing them to be simply other dimensionally beings who can be hurt, etc.

His 2004 campaign for the Senate, against Barack Obama, received widespread media attention for the disclosure of sealed custody documents stemming from his divorce from actress Jeri Ryan. The unsealing of those documents, detailing allegations that Ryan had pressured his wife to perform sexual acts in public, led to Ryan's withdrawal from the campaign.[2]

This upset me so much. The writing softened him up a little over time making his character grow into what was in many ways an unpleasant guy who often had opposing ideals to Sisko and his crew but with personality quirks that made him seem like a decent guy overall. Basically someone who considers you a rival and laughs at your misfortune but doesn't like owing you any debts and always pays them. A guy you love to hate.

Then suddenly he became full on insane literal embodiment of evil just so the writers could go "gotcha! ;)".

The Kai alone should have been final boss. She was the perfect villain. Every one of her words dripped with venom, it was impossible not to hate her.

It would have been much better writing based on seasons 1-5 if Dukat made some sort of an alliance with Kai Winn as a military leader in order to fuck over Sisko and try to get influence over Bajor, Winn turned out to be the demon thing and fucked over Dukat, Dukat then having to decide between helping Sisko or letting Winn get her way and deciding to side with Sisko because even though he hates Sisko he hates being played even more. >>
>>14331
Truth be, Romulans cant really afford a war with anyone.
They border with Klingon space and have a bad fucking history with them.
Meanwhile they face constant inner turmoil and shit to put down/keep citizens in line, etc.
If they ever actually went to war, it would cost them really bad.
The federation would also suffer for sure(especially as at that point they were still so non militarily focused), but a real major war with the Romulans would have fucked them hard. The Klingons(especially being friends from the accords with the Feds) would have ass raped the Romulans from the side/retaken lost land, etc.

The Feds would have been fucked with any war that hit before the borg/dominion made them focus a bit more on fighting. The reason the borg rolled us so badly in the first place is because star fleet was using exploration and science vessels everywhere, including old outdated models.

It was the big loss to the first cube, and the later dominion war that really made the Feddies start to pump out combat capable ships.
If something happened before that, it would have been bad.

What about the fact that a few decades later, they're afraid of an outdated fleet that they know how to destroy? Could literally have just wiped them out and kept the female in her cell.

>>

Well. Regardless if they knew how to deal with a Dominion fleet or not is irrelevant when an entire fleet appears literally out of thin air with no warning whatsoever.

Normally if they saw it coming, maybe then they would have dealt with it.

But they just simply appeared and overtook the station completely in a matter of minutes, everyone on DS9 were probably fucking chillin and didn't expect a sudden Dominion fleet to show up.
>>
>>14072
Considering that Star Trek was Mass Effect before Mass Effect was even an idea in someone's head, yes.

>Having long discussions with Garak between exploring new solar systems
>>
>>14348
They dont though. Remember that the Dominion war didnt exactly end in one giant "Fuck yeah Star Fleet". It was a combined effort, and even at the end took the disease from the founders and its curing to really bring the war to an end.
up until the end, the dominion warships were not well studied at all, and their capabilities were far beyond our normal stuff. Recall that a majority of the battles were with smaller jem hadar ships and they were assraping ships much larger their own size.

At the end of the war, we didnt get to keep dominion tech around to study. They said "fuck you, dont talk to me or my son again" and left.
They make a big deal about the Dominion tech and ships, and how desperate star fleet was to get one intact for study, etc.

Simpsons also turned into liberal soapbox. I think it's just a symptom of a show running way too long and not having any good ideas/writes left so they just put in what's current favoring their own political views.

Also now that I think about it South Park also kinda became the same but it's less obnoxiously pro-libertarian and makes fun of everyone even if it does seem to lean in favor of liberals.

>there will never be a klingon/jem'hadar alliance story arc

It'd be like two races trying to one up the each other and whoever gets caught in their wake has to deal with that bullshit.

I think it was a missed chance for a crazy season of Star Trek to see the klingons and the jem'hadar basically going, "oh yeah well check THIS out" against another race, maybe the Romulans because I hate those fucksticks.

>klingon celebration/bar scene where the klingons are all drinking bloodwine and fighting and the jem'hadar are all watching from the sidelines
>klingon rough housing spreads over to the jem'hadar who are all waiting patiently for their assigned vorta to give them their ketracel white
>the jem'hadar fight back in a giant bar brawl
>the vorta shows up right as the klingons and the jem'hadar are on the verge of killing each other
>he gives the roughed up jem'hadar their ketracel white and the jem'hadar look at the klingons and start laughing
>the klingons go to the bar and toast with their bloodwine as the jem'hadar put the ketracel white in

Borgs individual thinking is overruled by the hivemind, thus they do not think generally and do work like automatons.

However when the link is broken or lost, their natural thinking/thought processes tends to take ahold again.
Its why we got independent borg colonies in shit like Voyager, and why we had individual folks like Hugh, or the entire Lore/Borg storyline.

Sending the fleet there at that moment served two purposes. First, it was the first time up until that point that the Federation and Klingons had really started working together again to try and push the Dominion back. Therefore, it provided the initial spark that led to increased cooperation against the Borg, Undine, with the Dyson Sphere, against the Vaadwaur and eventually against the Iconians. Second, the event improved relations between the Dominion and the Federation/Klingons/Romulans. This in turn made the Dominion more receptive to helping the Beta Quadrant powers, which led to them sending a fleet to help Earth against the Iconians, which stalled the Iconians long enough to open the time portal. Without the fleet being returned at that exact moment, the Iconians would've conquered the galaxy.

Frankly, the more time goes on the harder it's going to become to have a star trek show that feels like trek.

mainly due to technological and cultural advancements. That was one of the main problems with Enterprise, and that was over 15 years ago.

I feel like if they do a trek series, it needs to be way in the future. at least 100 years after DS9/VOY.

Beam Overload is getting a buff. It won't be a guaranteed crit on one beam, but it'll be a massive critical hit and critical severity on one beam, and then a lesser (but still significant) buff for all beams for a number of seconds.
