So guys, i'm interested in your opinions

I'm running at 73 with a crit freeze pulser in the 1msc, and I'm trying to decide on the defensive bonuses of getting a CoD or using a voll's

I'm running HoT+ass mark atm, and while it is pretty damn consistent with getting power charges up, there are still some times when I'm low on them. When I have 7 charges up, I'm basically freezing everything most of the time.

Switching to voll's means I can swap out the ass mark for temp chains, and I feel that that combined with my crit is going to make me a lot safer than I am now.

However, CoD is CoD. I could run a several levels higher arctic armour, and I'd still be freezing most things

So... more consistent crit and freeze or the mitigation of CoD+AA?

you should have a bunch of armour and then a cwdt-ic setup so even if reflect damages you, you become immune to it long enough to kill the pack anyways, also ib is just for leveling before you get cyclone and can manage the mana cost of it

Most people would consider resistance nodes to be a waste of points and a noob trap, but getting 60 all res on the tree just because it's on my path has made gearing up easy as hell. Can cap res (including chaos res!) with mostly life-only gear. Could easily cap res for ele weakness maps as well, saving up on alts. Sure you sacrifice a bit of dps, but the easiness of gearing is just so good. Thoughts?

its easier than it sounds

you only need 135-145% resist. you can easily get 70% all res from jewelry. at least 20% all rest from belt and boots. leaving the 35ish % missing on auras, passive tree, and/or chest and gloves and head. this means you can wear up to 4 uniques with no resists and still be capped without using auras as long as you get well rolled yellows for the rest

if you run shield, thats a further 25%+ all res you can look to

capping resist isnt hard. overcapping them all and raising the max resist % is what becomes tricky

You get respec points from a few of the quests in the game and there are semi-rare drops called orbs of regret which will give you another respec point when used. One respec point lets you respec one node, so it takes quite a few in order to completely respec, but you can alter your build up quite a bit.

Armor loses effectiveness in a BIG BIG way vs big hits. It only helps small hits.

20k armor is less effective than mom, youd need around 35-40k for it to break even

but then a build that supports mom can also easily support aa, a combo which is a lot better than armor

I've never seen the Villa boss's traps ever do anything. Just don't stand still.

Dungeon's Brutus is pretty strong,
Orchard's boss is pretty strong (devourer) and can get some serious bullshit going on in his arena,
Museum boss is triple fast dickbags which can come at you ghosted, if you can't instagib them they might instagib you,
Springs map is pretty easy but the boss does use detonate dead,
Graveyard is Merveil plus magic mobs, can be tough,
Jungle Valley is the spider boss from act 2 which summons a whole bunch of flicker striking magic and rare mobs, does really high damage and can be very hard,
Torture Chamber is Shock and Horror which has a unique attack laser which does ridiculously high DoT which you have to run out of line of sight around the pillars to stop, and summons lightning warp totems which can stack up and instgib you if you don't move,
Dark forest is Oak, which can be tough if he has damage mods, and that map as devourers,
Maze can be hard if you've got the boss speed mods, it's the Vaal Oversoul you can potentially get stunlocked by the laser attack to death,
Necropolis is Merveil with part 2 added,
Residence is first form of Dominus, which is by far the hardest part of Dominus, but you've got a big arena for him so he's not terrible,
Academy is Intellectus Prime, the library boss, who can spam his tornados and books at you and do some really high damage, and his arena is pretty annoying,
Shrine is high level Piety, courtyard is the trio non-demon trio before Dom and palace is both forms of Dom. They're all tough mostly because they're high level so they deal a lot of damage.

Okay, after literally months of testing, I've found out something interesting about PoE's RNG pseudo-system.

The first few maps and master missions you will do in day after a span of 24 hours will have much better RNG, loot, drops, etc.

My log in order would be Zana>Elreon>Vorici>Tora

Starting Zana first would very often give a much higher level map (76-77-unique maps) than doing her last or second. Elreon missions first or second would often have more rare and orb drops than doing him last or after having "wasted" RNG on maps or other master missions.

This may seem like bullshit, but it's what I observed after autisticly playing PoE with this idea in mind since August.

As for maps, the first map that you do should be your highest leveled map (level wise: don't run 78s as a level 80 character, because thats fucking retarded), chiseled, alched and vaal'd for whatever you want if youre going for IIQ. Otherwise, use your "RNG pool" for easy magic mobs, rare mobs, beyond roll and increased pack size on your highest level easy maps (gorge, plateau, precinct, shipyard, palace) for very easy leveling and EXP.

The purpose for this (if you omit doing master missions first and go straight for maps) is that the first map of they day that you run has been empirically observed by me to have a incredible chance to have good strongboxes (gemcutter, arcanist, artisan) and/or good masters (Zana, Elreon)

So, with this in mind, you can manipulate your map rolls, RNG, etc. to get your desired map mods.

However, it goes both ways.

When I would play a lot straight for a shitter (6-8 hours a day) around 4-5 days a week, I would mostly notice that the "blessed RNG pool" would only last the first few master missions and the 1-3 first maps

Chaining maps past 4, no matter what level, would cost and increasingly large amount of alterations, alchs and scours to get the actual desired mods, compared the first map which would more often than not get it with the first alt stack or the first or second alchemy orb.

On the topic of actual item drops, I did not notice a large difference with rares or magic tier items. On the first map, there would obviously be a much, much larger quantity of rares in general, which would more likely than not have a better item base (imbued wands, diamond rings, etc). So you can take that for granted. I never got any GG unique items, but the first 1-2 maps would always drop at least 1-2 uniques (shit tier ones like Mightflay or Tiki). Uniques and actual decent rares were scarce past the 4th chained map.

A personal anecdote of mine was that I quit PoE for the summer, as I was working. When I finally started back up in August 2014, I went to my highest level character and joined a pub Dominus MF farm, which yielded me a Mjolner, which I sold for some exalts.

To summarize, I ran maps and took notes from October 2nd to March 31st. 181 days.

I played PoE on average 4-5 days a week. ~121.5 days PoE was launched and maps were run.

January = 31 Days = 4 weeks = ~18 days played
February = 28 Days = 4 weeks = ~18 days played
March = 31 Days = 5 weeks = ~22.5 days played

October = 31 Days = 5 weeks = ~22.5 days played
November = 30 Days = 4 weeks = ~18 days played
December = 31 Days = 5 weeks = ~22.5 days played

PLEASE note that I did not spend every waking minute playing PoE. I would run several maps, do masters, and shitpost in /poeg/.

On average, I would run between 5-9 maps. Never less than 5, and I could rarely overcome my inner casual to run the 9th. All maps run were over level 71. ~7 maps run per day, either sustained with the RNG pool, or purchased in bulk.

With ~7 maps a day for ~121.5 days, thats roughly 850 maps in 6 months. Really nothing impressive, but enough for disorganized statistics in notepad.

All maps were either alch'd or alt'd.

The _first_ map of the day that I rolled would roll INC pack size/magic mobs/rare mobs _within_ the first 15-29 alteration orbs, with a 71% chance of occuring out of ~121 "first day maps" noted down. There were occasionally duds in the RNG where it would be next to impossible to roll a map.

The second map of the day would generally roll the aforementioned mods within 26-44 alterations. Not as good, but still decent

Out of 121 samples (averaged again) the good mods would roll 52% of the time, as stated with between 26-44 alts. It should be mentioned that I would always reroll rolls that had failed a minimum of 50% base (would reroll a low more magic mobs roll which was re-obtained a tad higher with the maximum of 44 alts)

The third map of the day would always average out a much lower chance of getting the better mods, with 44%.

Again, this should be noted that this "better RNG" would always include masters/strongboxes in maps, always in the first map.

Another very very important point to mention that I've tested recently is that lapses in playing PoE will _sharply_ increasing chances of good rolls on maps, better drops. Once again, this may seems like asshit, but I'm currently testing it out. So far it seems like delays of 2-4 days between very heavy and intensive grinding will generally cause you to get much more favorable RNG in the first three maps, as well as the first master missions. I've only tested this out on the weekends where I would not play PoE and then spam alts on maps.

Most importantly, don't forget to open the door, get on the floor, everybody walk the dinosaur.

tl;dr i've noticed this too. something else i've noticed is that if i use a currency or a bunch of a certain currency, it's more likely to drop. like for example i won't have a vaal orb drop in a thousand runs then randomly i'll decide to use one, within the next few runs, a vaal orb will drop. this is anecdotal of course and i'll never actually test it because ultimately i don't give a shit.
