Your best bet is to try Amazon, but call them directly when placing the order to check.

All this Raidou talk reminds me that we never got to see the Lone Marebito manga finish being translated. According to a comic website I looked at, there are 34 chapters in all. There's also a Raidou vs King Abaddon 4koma too. I can't find raws for either of them.

You know SJ was actually IV

The project started as IV but half way through they realized "We can't make this IV! Its not in Japan!" so they designed the rest of the game with international ideas in mind and made the game for everybody instead of only nips.

SJ isn't actually a SMT game because it isn't in japan.

The game doesn't live up to it at all. Why do you think only insecure teenagers like it who can't handle that people like SJ better. which is also shit.
>>
>>98094251
You're in a general for SMT, the most edgy series in existence, you're inherently making fun of yourself.
>>
>>98094251
No offense man but I can't really understand you

Also do you like video games? And why did you come into /smtg/
>>
>>98094484
...At least you admit that you only like it because you're 15, and love disgaea, but feel like playing it makes you a kid and you want to feel "grown up."
>>
>>98094484
>edgy
Having an opinion and not making everything "god is great" doesnt' make it edgy. Having random blood, guts, trying way to hard and oh wow his dad beat him he's so tough is edgy.

You want edgy try DMC: Devil May Cry or watch Pupa to understand what edgy means
>>
>>98094693
What? One of my favorite games is Viva Pinata, and also stop typing like a retard.

>>98094721
>A game where you punch god because you disagree with him while you kill every one of your friends because you don't like their alignment is not edgy.
>>
>>98094551
The ONLY good smt games are the raidou games, soul hackers, DDS games, and persona 2. Nocturne is shit for teenage retards.
>>
>>98094950
Persona 2 is shit you underage hipster.
>>
>>98095108

Nope, try again. A good indication that someone is underage is if they insist every game is better in 3d.

Was this used in another MegaTen game at some point? I never played if... but I feel like I've heard it before. I know Nocturne uses one of the battle themes from it.

And speaking of if..., why is Gideon doing the SNES version and not the PS1 version?
>>

I don't know who you're talking about, I was just wondering. Wouldn't the PS1 version have better graphics, sound quality, and more space in the text box to work with? Is there some advantage the SNES version has that I don't know about?
>>
>>98097531
It's exponentially harder to romhack games as bits increase. this is why there's a fuckton of basic NES hacks, because anyone with a hex editor can do it

SNES is 16bit and difficult

PS1 is 32bit and much, much harder

I just got pic related. I had to trade my 2DS and nearly all of my games in a direct trade for this XL and SMT IV.

Main point being that I feel so terrible for getting rid of all those games, that I just lose any interest in playing SMT IV.

Help me regain that interest.
>>
>>98149917
Honestly you're already in balls deep. Might as well enjoy your investment. You're still a retard, speaking as someone who's favorite 3DS game is IV. Why didn't you just save the money and wait? The game goes on sale all the time for like 15 bucks.
>>
>>98149917
Why did you have a 2ds in the first place?

And look at it this way. You can't change the past. If you really care about playing any of those games again, you'll no doubt have the money to re-buy them when older, or emulate them which will exist by then at worst. So its not like selling them literally voids them from your life forever. And if you feel they're not worth buying again, then you clearly don't mind their absence. All you can focus on now is playing a good new game.

If you however don't feel like playing now, you can put if off til you feel a little better. You are feeling the pain of loss, thinking that you betrayed the games, but they're just objects. Ones that will always exist, and can be replaced at any time. So this feeling is not overly rational an will go away over time as you realize that your action was not inherently irreversible.

Chin up. Just remember that YHVH always loves you.
>>
>>98149917
...why would you buy a N3DS if you already had a 2DS
>>
>>98150554
>>98150061
Well I guess I should correct myself.

I traded a 2DS and about 10 games for a sealed N3DS XL and sealed SMT IV collectors edition on Craigslist.

I was already looking to upgrade because I hated how shitty and slippery the Circle Pad was on the 2DS, and I can't stand playing DS games in their native resolution on such a small screen.

I was looking to liquidate some of the games I didn't care about anyways, but I ended up throwing a couple more into the deal when he offered to throw in an extra 80 bucks.

I will eventually buy back the games I miss the most, but until then I have my entire money stash locked into a Sakura-Con fund.
>>
About the "God of Luck" battle in DeSu2, why exactly does Yamato call everyone up and act like it's a big deal, then the characters get really pissed off at him after defeating Billiken?

Is it some kind of Yamato is a Jew joke or something? Is he supposed to be in his office laughing his ass off at them because he set them up for something really annoying?

I'm not sure if I get it.
>>

It's Japanese humor. Don't worry about it.
>>
>>98150165
I really is bitter sweet because my friends keep telling me how great of a game SMT IV is, but some of those other games were still in my backlog. But yeah, I'll buy them back eventually.

Are there any tips before starting the game? The only other games I've played in the series are Persona Q and Devil Survivor Overclocked.

Don't get me wrong, I mean to play all the important games in the series, but I was really only introduced to the series about half a year ago, and I just got around to getting my PS2 fixed, so I can buy some of those games.

Otherwise, I am new to the mainline SMT series.

The most important thing to keep in mind is that story wise they use a phrase multiple times that they phrase as "preserve the status quo" but which in reality you're supposed to read something like if they were saying "keep the peace." Sometimes when they use it they do actually mean leaving something as is, but other times people will be changing things and saying its about not changing things and it comes off confusing to someone who doesn't realize that there's a weird phrasing issue. Its probably some kind of issue of Japanese where those two phrases are one phrase in their language. But it can really confuse you later on if you don't get it.
>>
>>98131617
Yeah I read the summaries too. The culprit was that weird alien eye that infected Abe no Seimei's descendant. Anyway, it's still different when you see the actual action unfold within the pages. They chose a good artist with that pretty slick art.

What's up with Abe no Seimei or his descendants? The Japanese either seem to love or hate the guy's guts making him either a hero or a villain depending on the medium.
>>
>>98152843
Are you fluent in nip or are you pulling shit out of your ass? Either way, I really doubt it's a mistranslated since the law scenarios presented in the Hall of Ethics line up with maintaining the status quo. Stop trying to push this shit.
>>
>>98155265
I included that in my post if you actually tried reading it. I said its extra confusing because sometimes it implies not changing things, and other times it means preserving the peace. The latter phrase can be used to refer to both, so its to be understood that they're kind of associating these things together.
>>
>>98155365
>The latter phrase can be used to refer to both, so its to be understood that they're kind of associating these things together.
Yes, what's so confusing then? Why are you trying to push this:
>>98152843
>"preserve the status quo" but which in reality you're supposed to read something like if they were saying "keep the peace."
Why do you post this every time someone asks about what to keep in mind when going into IV? Law is associated with statis and order, why is this a surprise to you?
>>
>>98155578
>statis
stasis*
I don't even know how I made a typo like that.
>>
>>98155578
Who said anything about a surprise. I'm just pointing out that its confusing, since its not what the "side" actually does when getting power. Not to mention that in any game before the previous one, the status quo was more of a neutral thing,(not even since they still want change) with law and chaos being the radical fast deviances, and neutral saying it can make slow changes to reach a better end.

This isn't a secret. IV has some questionable writing and thematic elements. Deciding that conservatism and communism are "close enough" to lump together offhandedly was one of them.
>>
>>98093495
Nocturne has the best atmosphere of any videogame I've ever played. So fucking beautiful.
>>
>>98155871
Hmm. No.
>>
>>98155743
>since its not what the "side" actually does when getting power.
Disregarding the means to achieve it, how is it not? Everything done was to undo the changes that had started occurring in the Eastern Kingdom of Mikado and to preserve their blissfully ignorant way of life. In other words, preserve the status quo. It seems pretty straightforward to me that they believed the ends justified the means.

Now I can go on about how law is fucking stupid and terrible all day, but there's nothing about IV that was really confusing.

>>
>>98160074
も usually means "too", but it can have many meanings depending on context. It really is more of a inclusion particle. In this case it doesn't mean "Tomorrow too will continue.." but rather more like "Even tomorrow", "May tomorrow".. Hard to explain, but it practically means each and every tomorrow included, which is eternity.
>>
>>98160670
>Hard to explain, but it practically means each and every tomorrow included, which is eternity.
I'm sorry but that doesn't sound very convincing, you also went from literally to practically.
Sure he doesn't mean that the peace only continues tomorrow but I don't see any need for eternity in there. It's more like an uncertain amount of time obviously implied to be long but not really eternal. Same if we would say that we were going to create a world where the peace of today lasts even tomorrow/tomorrow too.
>>
>>98161303
Dude I studied and lived in Japan for six years, I don't know what's there even to argue about. If you want it more specifically:

Japanese doesn't have singular and plural nouns. 明日 here is for all tomorrows and the concept of tomorrow, not the literal day after today. If you want it super literal: "A world where all the tomorrows continue to be peaceful.". Japanese is more of a poetic, contextual language and 明日も isn't meant to be taken literally, it's a phrase expressing "Hopefully forever" in a way like "May even tomorrow and each tomorrow after that..".
>>
>>98160074
The expression literally means "A world in which the peace of today continues tomorrow too", which in more human language means "a world which stays peaceful from one day to the next", a forever peaceful world.

>>98161303
No, I'm pretty sure "everlasting peace" is the intended meaning. Maybe not "until the sun goes out" levels of eternity but roughly what most people mean when they say "forever".
>>
>>98161890
>Dude I studied and lived in Japan for six years, I don't know what's there even to argue about.
Hasn't a lot to do with the way you explained it, dude.
>明日 here is for all tomorrows and the concept of tomorrow, not the literal day after today. If you want it super literal: "A world where all the tomorrows continue to be peaceful.".
Okay then 今日 is for all todays and the concept of today. And mega literal it would be "A world where the peace of all todays will continue for all tomorrows."
>Japanese is more of a poetic, contextual language and 明日も isn't meant to be taken literally, it's a phrase expressing "Hopefully forever" in a way like "May even tomorrow and each tomorrow after that..".
That's my point. Compare that to the English line where there is no hopefully or may and it is literal.

>>98162149
>The expression literally means "A world in which the peace of today continues tomorrow too"
Exactly.
Wouldn't everlasting peace be until the sun goes out?
>>
>>98162464
I'm leaving this thread now, I see no point in further arguing with you. If you pursue your Japanese learning ambition I hope one day you will understand that it's a contextual language and not a literal language like English. Don't go around Japan convincing them how they all understand their language wrong, good luck.
>>
>>98162464
>Exactly.
Except it's not meant to be taken literally. It's like when you use "tomorrow" as an euphemism for "future" in English. When someone says they work for a better tomorrow or something, they aren't trying to say they don't give a shit what happens the day after that.
>Wouldn't everlasting peace be until the sun goes out?
In theory.
In practice, I don't think anyone has ever meant "everlasting peace" quite so literally. Especially since it's generally used for international relations, most people aren't deluded enough to believe their country will last billions of years, especially without war.
It's a somewhat irrational and romantic expression of hope. Pretty much like the line we're discussing.

>>98155743
One of the things I noticed while looking in one of the guidebooks is that an alignment choice was translated totally differently (at least I can't find the line in the English game). When you meet Fujiwara, he asks if you think it's possible that the humans of Tokyo and the humans of Mikado could live in harmony. In the Japanese version, it seems he makes a comparison between demons and humans instead.
>>
>>98162858
No need to be so defensive, man. For me the difference between "peace lasts forever" and "A world in which the peace of today continues tomorrow too" (which is English too even though "the language is literal") is notable.
Also they use 永遠に a lot in SMT. Which in my eyes is a lot more certain.

>>98162972
I know, I already said that he doesn't mean it literally but my point is that this gets lost in English. Jonathan simply says the peace lasts forever which is a lot stronger because it isn't from today to tomorrow even if it continues from tomorrow to the day after tomorrow. It's measured in days one at a time while in forever it's the whole time span with no ends. Not sure if you know what I mean, I'm aware that this is very subjective.
>Especially since it's generally used for international relations
Seriously? Didn't know that.
>It's a somewhat irrational and romantic expression of hope. Pretty much like the line we're discussing.
It seems like it's just me but the "a world where peace we know today lasts forever" does sound a lot more convinced for me.

>>98163195
I played the game in Japanese, I'm really not sure but I don't think that Fujiwara ever asked me the line in your image, if my memory serves me right, he really asked if the humans of Tokyo and Mikado could live together.
>>
>>98163851
>I know, I already said that he doesn't mean it literally but my point is that this gets lost in English.
Well, I'm not a Japanese speaker and I'm not every person who played IV's localization, but I never took forever literally. I took it more as an as long as possible/as long as I'm alive kind of thing. Hyperbole is common in English.
>>
>>98164132
>I took it more as an as long as possible/as long as I'm alive kind of thing. Hyperbole is common in English.
Well, I obviously would do the same in real life but we're talking about the SMT world where truly eternal lasting worlds aren't that unrealistic. The characters use demon quite literally which I wouldn't do in real life either. Also not really common in English either.

It's not the first mistake the book made. It said that sparing Issachar is worth CHAOS+5, while finishing him off is worth LAW+5. Some of the events are also out of order. Walter asking what you think about the Monastery's quest to go deeper into Naraku should come after Issachar, not before, and defeating Tenkai should come right before Walter asks you if you understand how he feels as a Casualry.

Also would have been nice if they had all the alignment choices up to the alignment lock instead of up to activating the Yamato Perpetual Reactor.

Why are the race names still so poorly translated?
I can excuse the old ones since I guess they didn't have much budget and butchering translations was common in the industry back then and it's too late to change them now, but what's their excuse for the games they translated this decade?
They translated 狂神 ("mad god") as "Zealot" for fuck's sake. How is it even possible to fuck up so badly? Can't they read Japanese, or maybe they don't know what a zealot is? What does it even mean for a god/demon to be zealous?
The only explanation is that they confused it with 狂信者 (zealot, religious fanatic, literally "religiously insane person") since it also starts with the kanji for "insanity". Even Google Translate is not this incompetent. How can you land a job as a translator if you perform worse than machine translations? It just blows my mind.

Megaten games tend to use a lot of fancy outdated vocabulary so don't be surprised if you still see unknown words years later. On the other hand most of the dialog is quite simple unless the character starts babbling about philosophy or religion, and I expect a lot of this stuff flies over the heads of many Japanese high schoolers too unless they're nerds.
If you practice a lot you can read pretty fluently in 3 years or so. You can practice by reading videogames too, in fact I recommend it once you've acquired the alphabet, basic vocabulary and grammar and a few hundred kanji. The important thing is to never get discouraged and never go more than a week without exposure to the language. But you will.
>>
>>98186292
It's completely up to you, there's not really a number anyone could give you. You just need motivation, some very basic vocabulary, a grasp of grammar and then jump right into reading stuff you're interested in while looking shit up. OP of DJT is pretty useful, in case you didn't know (the rest is shit most of the time).
I've started learning 2 years ago, exchanged the time I used to play video games in English with reading, playing stuff in Japanese and can now play BR comfortably (obviously still have to look stuff up but not a lot).

>>
Is it worthwhile playing Devil Survivor on the original DS since I don't have a 3DS? Is Overclocked much better?
>>
>>98203182
Yeah, it's fine. OC adds some stuff and is at a higher resolution but it's still the same game at its heart.
>>
>>98203182
Overclocked adds an 8th day for some routes and a few other things. You can read up on the 8th days once you're done so you miss out on less. No game is worth buying a whole system for. Though if you ever get the cash, the 3DS has a pretty worthwhile library and can play your DS games as well.
>>
>>98203393
Naturally I'm interested in SMT IV as well but besides that and OC there isn't much I care for the 3DS.

I figured, but a system for two games is still pushing it. Personally I follow a five game rule, though if you count in Soul Hackers and Break Record you could come out with 4 games worth getting a 3DS for.

Let's face it. No one in this general would be able to survive in a true World of STR. None of us are /fit/ enough.

No, it's pretty scarce online. Not porn either. I only realized it a couple days ago because I own the actual book and I came across the picture of Isabeau's ass. I was simultaneously overjoyed to know the source, and disappointed to know that it wasn't porn.

Basically, it's a collection of one-off chapters by different manga artists, all humorous in nature. You'll see stuff like Flynn wearing a magical girl t-shirt.
>>
>>98217152
So is there any more stuff like Isabeau's ass or is that the only semi-erotic thing in there
>>
>>98217997
That's pretty much the only semi-erotic chapter. Unless you count this.
>>
>>98217997
But here are some more pictures (sorry if it's sideways).
>>
>>98219828
That's pretty hot. Flynn looks great in a skirt.
>>
I have no idea why these are coming out sideways. It's not like I'm turning my phone or anything.

>>

>>
>>98221005
Ehh, I would, but for really good scans, you need to remove the binding of the book, and I just can't bring myself to do that. Also, my scanner hates me and has never worked.

But on the positive side, this, both volumes of DEMONIC GENE, and both volumes of -Prayers- were only 2450 yen altogether. I'm surprised nobody's done it yet. Here's a picture of all the stuff I got that I posted here about a month ago. The manga was the cheapest, but the shipping fee was nearly 5000 yen, because paper is surprisingly heavy.
>>
So how many demons are there? Like 2k or so?
>>
>>98221415
Hmm.
Where'd you buy it?
I might consider getting it myself and scanning it.

>>
>>98221520
Amazon Japan, they do international shipping. I did a lot of searching beforehand, so I can confirm that it had the best prices (if you're going all new). Beats CDJapan in terms of shipping price, shipping time, and has a better price on the OST (not to mention it also has the first press edition, but it's still kinda lame because it only includes a little sticker that looks like the cover art of the OST). All and all, it cost me just under $200 CAD if you include shipping.

>>98221667

Not a lot of funny Burroughs stuff from what I've seen (Isabeau calls hers "Burroughs-chan").

Flynn can be pretty funny in this though.

Yeah, that's why I said a type of doujin (albeit, only to non-natives). If it has an ISBN, it isn't doujin - but you certainly couldn't call anything in it canon either.

I guess maybe considering it omake would be the best course, especially in terms of gag manga.

http://www43.atwiki.jp/eramegaten/

So I've been playing this shit for the past few days and I'm actually amazed at the amount of gameplay elements they managed to cram into it.

-Rogue-like dungeon crawling with the classic 6 member party and RPG battles
-Demons recruited through conversation, the dialog appears to have been pulled straight from the games.
-So many dungeons, holy shit, they even added maps. Mostly pulled from the games too with some OC.
-Battle system is pretty much early SMT
-COMP with a shitload of functions and upgrades
-Magnetite system much like in the first two SMT games, but with a lot more functions and importance
-Cathedral of Shadow/Demonic Compedium with full functions including demon registry, demon storage, fusion, triple fusion, sword fusion, mystic change, refine into skill cards etc etc
-Literally every single demon in the franchise. Really.
-Pretty much every skill and item
-Major characters in the franchise are recruitable and have a wide range of equip and customization options
-Demi-Fiend and his magatama are properly implemented
-Velvet Room and Persona are in
-Atma and Mantra are in
-Loyalty system, Case Files etc from Devil Summoner
-Other stuff like Moon Phases, Skill Linkage/Combo, the Colosseum, Macca exchange, ridiculous clothing customization and god knows what else
-Difficulty goes from Easy to Nightmare Mode. Debut/Cheat Mode too.

And of course, you can fuck demons. You can fuck all the demons and mindbreak them. You breed and sell them and put them to work. They also took the F/SN approach and magnetite is now swapped through body fluids, that's basically the main gameplay reason to fuck them other than to raise loyalty. Oh, and you use your demon slaves to earn money and macca.

Mechanics that you would expect to be in but aren't:
-Turn Press system
-Special Conversations (I think)
-Sacrificial Fusion
-Alignment doesn't seem to matter much at the moment
-Balance
-Nemechi :^)
Otherwise it's much like playing SMT.
