Star Citizen Information:

It is the standing Recommendation of /scg/ that if your game package contains an Aurora MR, Aurora ES or Mustang Alpha you would be well served to upgrade it to an Aurora LN. It's only like ten bucks and provides a significant increase in firepower and survivability without any real downsides.
Be aware, this is the gateway drug to wasting your life savings on spaceship jpegs, keep your discipline and don't upgrade further unless you specifically want to buy Ben more eyeballs(and cheese), finance Sandi's dreams of being a C grade actor, fuel Chris's cocaine habit and send Erin and Brian into crippling inescapable depression.

Its the near dark feature they are going for. It will have a sensor like a wildlife camera so it can work in almost complete darkness. A regular webcam won't work well in low light.
>>
>>188029414
Generally, multi-cannons work in every size. You have to constantly reload at stations, but they are easy to use and do ok damage without engineering. Energy weapons don't need a reload, but at smaller sizes you are going to be there for a while pecking their hull down.

Mixed loads work also, but that is a matter of taste and there is hardly one "correct" answer.
>>
>>188029893
I'm just trying to decide what i should have in the class 2 slots whether I put in multi cannons, lasers or even missle racks.

I just know I'll be definitely getting two lasers and two mutli cannons but what class i dont know.
>>
>>188029638
Does trackIR work in dimly lit rooms too?Because it has double the frame rate.
>>
>>188029638
>females of all species are hopeless exhibitionists
>>
>>188030067
The class is determined by the mount type. Fixed is always the highest damage, turret is always the lowest. Gimbal is a good starting point to see what you like.

Turrets have a specialized place. If you are farming CZ and leeching kills off the npcs like you should, you can set your turrets to attack selected target only and go comfy mode where you just tag ships already under attack with your pulse turrets and move on.

As far as what to mount, try everything. You get 100% back on parts so you don't lose anything trying it.

>>188030327
It requires extra IR illuminators ($2 worth of leds), but the CIG one will too probably.

>>188030425
she knew what she was doing
>>
>>188030597
>100% back on parts
still such a dumb fucking idea. fucking dads crying about losing money for fucking up their outfitting. shoulda been 10% just like the ship, it's not even a big deal. many games have much bigger resell penalties.
>>
>>188030597
Sorry I didn't mean the mount types, I meant the medium hardpoints I've got. I don't know what to use in those slots.
>>
>>188030327
Replying again. I would add that the track IR is already set up for IR light so it may work as is. The issue may be the whether the foip and track ir software play nice together. Without the trackir software, the 120fps may not be of any use.
>>188031009
I'm ashamed of how long I played the game not knowing that and just selling ships fully equipped.
>>188031059
I guess I'm not following. It's a medium slot so you should choose size 2, the class is the mount, and you get everything back when you sell. There is no meta without engineers, so it is more a matter of taste. Don't try to minmax at this point, just survive in a CZ and learn the combat. You won't do any real damage until you are in a medium ship anyway.
>>
>>188031428

more delays on 3.0 and a huge ship sale regardless of the fact there is no fucking game
>>
>>188032160

>>
>>188031706
They've already gone back on SQ42 being shown at Citizencon, despite still claiming it'll be out this year

TL;DR absolutely fuck all. 2020 release is no longer a joke
>>
>>188030597
>It requires extra IR illuminators ($2 worth of leds), but the CIG one will too probably.

No it doesn't. TrackIR works in everything except direct glaring sunlight, where nothing would work anyway.
>>
>>188032108
A zero resell is tiny compared to the trillions of credits made at Robigo alone. You had anons making billions a week at a single station. Not to mention Draconis 17. I can't even fathom any feature of the game as cheating when shit like that went down.
Even post-Quince people will make money. Some anons already know how, after 2.4 is live, there won't be any point holding it back anymore and everyone will know the next trick. I'm one of the most anti-dad anons on here.
>>188032717
What you have to keep in mind is, track IR is looking for the targets that are either IR leds or reflectors for IR light. Foip needs your face to be lit up, so the lighting needs are different. I'm not at all saying it wont work, but that they just have different operating objectives is all. They may not work together.
>>
>>188033031
If you were talking FOIP then yeah of course TrackIR won't work. But I really, really don't know who is going to use FOIP for longer than 5 minutes. I'm only interested in head tracking, because it has an impact on gameplay, not some roleplay horseshit
>>
>>188033180
You can buy a security grade usb webcam with IR illuminators built in for less than $10 on amazon that will work for foip. From monitor distances, almost any IR sensitive camera will work.
>>
>>188033421
those have shitty fps and won't be responsive at all
>>
>>188032438
>>188032491
>>188032590
Thanks for the info. I guess I'll check back on the 19th and see what's what.

Its hard to keep being patient. Really feels like this project should have started to crystalize by now. Still feels like there is nothing concrete about it despite being nearly 5 years in.

>>

That's backwards. People glitch the progressions so bitching about a broken gameplay element is like complaining that your zipper is down after you shit your pants.
I don't play with headcannon rules. I play what is. If I have to go to Quince, or Drac 17, or pristine ringed systems, then I go. I didn't write the fucking bugs and I'm not going to be left behind because of imaginary rules that no one else follows.
>>
>>188032438
>huge ship sale regardless of the fact there is no fucking game
They've even found ways to jew ship sales extra hard by not allowing CCUs on the sale ships. The flimsy pretense that the money is actually a pledge and not directly buying jpgs has completely gone out the window.

Yes, everything except dock at medium pads.

You wont care because theres nothing you want at those stations anyway, half the times theres no outfitting and theres never rares or shipyards, you cant even accidentally take missions to go there.

Plus the Anaconda can out-manoeuvre the Python with relative ease. Aside from the rebuy theres no real downside. Also you can get a little pet fighter and a credit stealing wingman too!

They literally foam at the mouth in disagreement because their "game" isnt even in a testable alpha state after over 3 years and $120 MILLION dollars in development.

Buggy is one thing. Buggy is fine, as long as it's semi playable. The issue is that CIG sees buggy as a failure. So they will work up until the last minute trying to squash "one more bug"
And "one more bug" will turn into "well, we're here, might as well delay it until the next sale" which will turn into "if we're delaying, we might as well add one more feature" which will lead to "oh no. That one feature added so many more bug. Who would have thought? Better squash them"

Wing commander favorite is Mark Skywalker. He was in the old wing commander series. And we did specifically ask for those things back in 2012.

If you actually go back through and read and watch the stuff you clearly either weren't around for or weren't paying attention too, you'd realize all this weird shit, including the face tracking, is stuff that was discussed and received enthusiastically years ago. The scope of the project has grown, but not nearly as much as people would have you believe, it was always ambitious beyond realistic present possibility, but that is precise the ride we all signed up for. It is wearing thin on me for sure, but I'm not going to pretend I didn't sign up for a long wait for something that may never come together. SC is a dream, some dreams come true, some don't we don't know yet which SC is, all we can do is wait.

Go to Quince. Closest station to star. Get good rep with the local factions. Might require a few mission runs or donations. When you get enough rep to do planetary scan missions, cycle the board until you get a buttload at a time. They all lead to the planet closest to the station, a short SC skip away. All the scan missions lead you to the same scanning object on the planet's surface. All the active missions will be completed when you scan the object. Suicide --> spawn at station --> turn missions in --> get dosh.

You will need a cheapo ship to keep rebuy costs down, as well as an SRV hangar with SRV. Both are available at the station. If your rep is high enough and you get a good roll on missions, you can earn 20m~ credits on a single 5 minute trip.

There's no point in releasing a build that is unplayable because it costs money and media will criticise them. Especially since they have already done some work on it, releasing a half fixed build is still inexcusable to the media.
They don't want to stop adding features to a release build because that release version will be getting the bugfixing because its what the people are playing. If they add features to an alternative build, they'll have to merge them later down the line, which creates more bugs.
>>
>>188079027
>There's no point in releasing a build that is unplayable because it costs money and media will criticise them.
CIG has tragically mismanaged their community interaction since the beginning. That is why they can't release something with bugs in it. Their communication is so fuck poor that they can't manage expected bugs in an alpha without endangering the entire project.

>>
>>188082120
General purpose ships have a lot of large internal components to support all the roles they can handle, which all cost a lot of cash to upgrade. Buying the basic hull is actually one of the cheaper parts.
I mean, that 5A FSD alone is 5mil; over three times the cost of the hull.

Compare with an Imperial Courier purposed for combat which runs 2.5mil for the hull but maxing it out runs less than 7mil total.

Also buy your ships and gear in Li-yong Rui systems for that 15% discount on everything.
>>
>>188083727
>15% disscount on everything
this good to know, will bookmark it in case i want to buy more ships. kinda want a dedicated fighter for massacre missions
>>
>>188082120
>>188083727
Outfitting cost is driven by the size of the four major modules: Power plant, thrusters, FSD and shield generator. These cost multiple times what all the other components do, so the larger those ones get the faster the cost ramps up.

Its not about their own community being not ok with bugs. Its the general public, people who haven't bought the game yet. They are a revenue stream and have to be taken into account when it comes to matters related to cash flow. This is what matters to the landlords of the office buildings they work in, insurance companies, and again the general public.

You can't manage the expectations of some random person's

only retards object to continued sales, they fund the project, the art dept is full of designers and concept artist that are being paid and concepting new ships will add much needed diversity to ship encounters in the eventualy game, and the community loves them. The ship pipeline is not holding up development and in fact its seems to be the only thing working properly, no doubt in part at least because it's what makes the money, so shipart has more pull within the company and can get more/better people.

The deception surrounding the sales, the marketing department kikery is objectionable, but to say they should stop accepting money that people genuinely want to throw at them is silly. They're going to be making more ships one way or another, the universe will need dozens to hundreds or ship types to be "immersive". The game will suck is people instantly know what they are facing and how it will be configured and whether the stats favor them the minute they see a ship.

In particular, if you want less than legal gameplay to be anything but intensely repetitive and boring, you're gonna need a wide variety of freighters, semi-combat ships and Utility craft.

I happen to like the Star Wars Pancake freighter aesthetic and hope a we get a few of them.

Caldari are corporate cut-throat thoughtslaves worshiping money and the state to the almost complete expense of the individual. Basically a military industrial complex turned government.

D rate life support, 7 minutes is more than enough and if you're too far out more minutes wont help you.
If you have spare power knock the powerplant down a size and get a better distributor if you want to use your gus.
B rated sensors are dumb, D or A rate only.
You dont need an AFM unless you're going out into the black.
Manifest scanner on that loadout makes no sense since you dont have hatch breaker or collector limpets to gather the cargo, use something else, are you even going o do piracy?
You could probably save some cash in the short term by running size 3 biweaves and and extra size 4 cargo.
Surface scanner with weapons on a small ship is on odd choice since inside the bubble is mostly explored and pays very little and outside the bubble weapons arent needed.

Be sure to swap out cargo for passengers at some stations, the payouts for "deliveries" can be a lot better and build your explorer rank quickly.

People stop building multi-role ships and just build them for a direct purpose. You can store and swap stuff all the time so its not like you're locked and forced to keep shit gear.

Yeah that oxygen resupply might help out in the black but even then, chances are you aren't going to blow your canopy 10000ly from the bubble and if you are then you have bigger issues to worry about than your life support.

Fair enough on the shields, I was assuming it was like the clipper/conda/aspE where the biggest slot is actually "too big" for the normal shield-to-hull size ratio.

More oxygen is always nice but not panicking in an emergency is more important.

how are you even supposed to fight in space without nuclear weapons?
>>
>>188114456
drone swarms? Limpets that boar into a hull and release bio-weapons into the life support system?
>>
>>188114445
Well that's running out of fuel, not losing your cockpit canopy, which any competent explorer would be able to repair using their AFM.

Only the worst pilots run out of fuel and again, 7 minutes or 25 makes no difference in that situation. You're right about the panic though, that and "rushing" in the game are major killers.
>>
>>188114456
Easily. Space ships are fragile and people are even more fragile in space.

Mass drivers, and lasers mostly, randomized movement to avoid fire and make targeting difficult, Computerized targeting using AI to aim Lightspeed weapons(Lasers) or fractional lightspeed mass drivers at extreme ranges. First person to be predictable dies to mass driver fire, if neither side scores a hit with mass drivers whoever has more wattage to dump into laser fire to overwhelm enemy armor plate or cooling systems and cook them in their hulls/vent atmosphere/cripple systems wins.

Missiles will become irrelevent once someone develops an effective Laser based CIWS/point defense system(this is already happening in the real world today) which will return focus to weapons that cannot be intercepted as easily, such as hypervelocity guns(mass drivers) and beam weapons. While this will make space combat entirely a matter of computing power and ability to dissipate heat, all run by robots at combats speeds so fast human won't even be spectators, making combat in space hugely boring, it DOES raise the near term prospect of taking missiles out of domination naval surface warfare. That would place an emphasis on the development of guns systems again, which would in turn lead to a re adoption of armoring. All this means we could see another generation of battleships or heavy cruisers built, or even more likely see the introduction of railgun armed artillery submarines, since theirs now better armor in the world than stealth and several hundred meters of water.

TL:DR space combat in the real world will always be TREMENDOUSLY boring followed by instant death due to simple lack of variables, whoever has the quickest draw and best aim on the highest velocity weapon will always win until we develop unobtainium armor or space opera style energy shielding. However naval combat might become REALLY COOL in the next 50 years.
>>
>>188116039
you are incredibly deluded about how those things actually work

lasers aren't magic. what is diffusion. what is accuracy, have to hit the same spot to do meaningul damage.
>>
>>188116149
in the present day, you're sort right.
but as they increase in power the time required to deal significant damage will become shorter and shorter. We already have lasers that can burn through solid inch thick steel in milliseconds, and diffusion is much less of a problem in space than it is in atmo. Laser weapons won't dominate surface combat because of diffusion, but they are already being used as point defense systems at terminal defense ranges.you can't cook a ship 20 miles away with a laser in an efficient way, but you can cook a thin skinned missiles at a thousand meters as its making final approach to a target ship. With missiles getting faster and faster you better believe money is being poured into that very idea, theres comes a point where no coventional bullet will be fast accurate and reliable enough for intercept, at extreme ranges you can use a railgun, but up close a lase is as good as instant and can be made to pack the necessary energy for destruction, its just a question of building ships with Nuclear reactor to provide the wattage, for both defensive laser batteries and offensive Mass drivers.

>>
>>188116149
Anon, we are already trying to use AIRBORNE LASER against SCUD like missile and the only problem we had is the power source and the loitering time.
Accuracy is merely a technical problem, diffusion as well, and you are the idiot if you believe laser have to be slow like in movie.
Realistically a megawatt pulse of a picosecond would result in all the energy being deposited in a time too short for any evasion.
And realistically again, once you've intercepted the missile the best course of action would be to be first at overheating the enemy vessel

Anyway, let's save us a lot of trouble

You'll probably need something to gain it and you probably won't keep for long if you are caught as criminal

>>188137487
You could at least check wikipedia "At the Moon's surface, the beam is about 6.5 kilometers"
but that's because the starting laser have to go through atmosphere and isn't meant to kill something
It would be more serious to point out that China DO have anti-sat laser already
http://www.globalsecurity.org/space/world/china/asat.htm
>In 2005, we have successfully conducted a satellite-blinding experiment using a 50-100 kilowatt capacity mounted laser gun in Xinjiang province…The target was a low orbit satellite with a tilt distance of 600 kilometers. The diameter of the telescope firing the laser beam is 0.6 meters wide. The accuracy of [acquisition, tracking and pointing is less than 5 [microradians]."
If you start needing to armor against laser, you've basically already lost. Realistic spaceship have weakness that are impossible to compensate.

>>188139381
Atmosphere cause more dispersion over distance so small on a stellar scale, a space-based laser wouldn't have trouble hitting the moon, the real problem will be miniaturizing and powering them.
The only way a missile would get through is if you spammed a lot of them or sent them at a fraction of the speed of light.
Maybe you could make them fake their own destruction and fly as debris, but that wouldn't work long
>>
>>188142132
You could technically launch a missile like a railgun projectile, then activate its rocketry to increase the velocity even more.

But you'd probably be better off just using some sort of chain-rail gun instead, or space-ballistae.

Non- solid objects tend to have trouble with hypervelocity launches. Build me a missile composed of engine, guidance package and warhead that can withstand the g-force of or being accelerated to fractional lightspeed without simply crumpling under its own inertia. Theres a reason railguns fire slugs made of high toughness high hardness metals like tungsten or alloyed steel.

>>
>>188145997
I was thinking it would be difficult, it's still a possibility but I guess it would be "better" to just fire them in a straight line as a swarm and let them do minor corrections. There's probably an optimum range where the speed of a self propelled missile or rocket would cause more trauma than a solid rail slug, but it's hardly my field, or most people's.

Would be amazing to see ships firing rails so powerful they push the ship firing backward. Sort of like current? destroyers.

>>
>>188149427
the guns on DDs have never been sufficient to push the DDs around, 5inch sheels simple dont have enough mass to push against a 2,000 ton destroyer in a meaningful way. Modern DDs only mount 1 gun, back in the day they mount usually between 3 and 8 guns, but still never more than 5 inchers, or 6 inchers in some cases. The ships ever to mount guns larger enough to actually push the ships are last generation BBs like Yamato, Iowa, Maybe NC and South Dakota classes as well. Fast-Battleship types with many extremely large guns on realtively light hulls built for speed would move sideways slightly, but measureably when firing a broadside. I remeber reading somewhere the the Iowa's would slide about 4 feet when all 9 16 inch guns were fired broadside simultaneously.

Can't pay off bounties until they expire and then become legacy fines after your next hyperspace jump. A 200cr fine for shooting somebody will expire in a few minutes but actual murder (6000+ cr) takes a week to expire.

Alternatively you can switch to a sidewinder, make sure the last place you docked was a station controlled by the faction where you're wanted, and then suicide. You'll be forced to pay your bounty off to buy back the sidey but in doing so the bounty is wiped.
