It is the standing Recommendation of /scg/ that if your game package contains an Aurora MR, Aurora ES or Mustang Alpha you would be well served to upgrade it to an Aurora LN. It's only like ten bucks and provides a significant increase in firepower and survivability without any real downsides.
Be aware, this is the gateway drug to wasting your life savings on spaceship jpegs, keep your discipline and don't upgrade further unless you specifically want to buy Ben more eyeballs(and cheese), finance Sandi's dreams of being a C grade actor, fuel Chris's cocaine habit and send Erin and Brian into crippling inescapable depression.

Above is a pastebin of games you can play while waiting for SC and E:D to become playable.
However these games are not the topic of this thread.

Just check the forums.
I remember some devs gave us answers in a thread a couple of month ago.
I think it was in late June or something.

They didnt explicit tell us that all of those 3 where scrapped, but they are not in the plans at the moment and maybe not for many years because of how the game engine and netcode turned out.

You think ED is dead now, wait until they kill Quince for good. The only thing that saved most people last time was Quince not actually being broken. When the best you can manage is a few mil per hour for the 3 billion it takes to have a murderconda, nobody but barely functioning autists will do that shit. As widespread as autism is here, there just isn't enough people in the general population that deep into the spectrum to support the game own its own.
>>
>>187731484
I don't understand Quince for noobs. It's like you start a new game and the first thing you do is grind for a week to get every ship and you're top imperial rank.

Even for longer term players repeating those same missions over and over just doesnt seem worth it.

If anything it's just created a small boom in players who most will likely quit due to having nothing to work for and no real connection to the game itself.

It's not like him to be like his brother Croberts who would fucking spoon-feed gutter-trash to his backers by hand if that were gpmma make as good money as selling jpegs.
>>
>>187729885
Even SC will manage 3.0 before ED will. I doubt Fdev even has a plan for what feature they could add to get people to cough up for another season pass dlc.
>>
>>187731943
That's easy to explain. Making money isn't gameplay, no matter how you do it. Once you stop playing the game to do a repetitive task to earn money, you aren't playing the game, you are earning money to hit an objective.
Redirecting what you play in game to line up with making money is an alternative, but fucking paltry gains compared to dedicating yourself to getting money out of the way of what you want.
It's not any different than speedrunning WoW to max level. That can be done in under 2 weeks, easily. Getting a A rated conda is just the beginning. There are still hundreds of hours to get it to 10/10ths and fit your style after you choose a few wrong loadouts, THEN you can actually start playing the game.

>>
>>187732747
My computer literally refuses to launch nms after I finished the big questline and reached the center of the Galaxy. I choose to believe this means I beat the game.
>>
The game is fun. If it's not fun, why bother?
>>
>>187733118
Depends on the game, sometimes its not max level, it's just reaching what ever is the point where there are no more "you must be this tall to ride" signs locking off the game's content.
>>
>>187733118
https://youtu.be/yxpW2ltDNow

This helps explain who game devs are targetting.
>>
>>187733529
Fair enough, that's a lot of work to just grind out, but to each their own.

I'm almost triple elite anyway, decent ranks too and every engineer done except 2 (one I need elite and the other is useless) so I still have a chunk of "work" to do to get the big faction ships, but I don't mind.

>>187732634
Theyll probably just release the next major patch(after 2.4) as 3.0 anyway and sell the next chunks as individual DLC.

Space legs and atmospheric landings is all they have that people are shouting for anyway, that and content. And unless they're going to change style and start charging real money for ships (they might since horizons has exclusives) I can't really see much either.

I'll still buy a season pass or whatever, because I'm hooked to the grind and invested too many hours already.

>>
>>187733860
Just gave it a look, makes sense but then again if you were applying that video to how I've been playing elite, I'd be almost a square on the chart. Either the games designed that way, or Im autistic enough to play that way without realizing. I'm guessing it's more game design than me being special
>>
>>187734673
They post opinion pieces. Ofc it isn't going to work for everyone. Not only are you free to disagree, but you would be much less of a faggot if you to actually have a fucking spine and debate the topic you disagree with instead of memeing for attention.
They give a book report on Bartle's Taxonomy. I was just pointing out to the other anon that he was not casual for not wanting to grind, different personality types have different goals. Is there something about that you don't like?
>>
>>187732714
you're a fucking retard, dad
elite is and has always been about the building up part

when you have the most expensive ship and the highest rating, the game is effectively over. it's called "elite" for a reason. the rating is a goal to strive for.

it is not the beginning, it's the end. and you should go back to shitting up wow instead of giving harmful advice that will make people grind the fun away.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9MNFWhCw8dg
>>
>>187735309
none of those personality types are desirable. they're all on some kind extreme and need meds. all of them are high on some kind of extrinsic factor and are just there to shit up the game.

it's based on a shitty early mud, which is for faggots.

once you get rid of them or minimize their presence you can start having people who enjoy games intrinisically play.
>>
>>187735358
>when you have the most expensive ship and the highest rating, the game is effectively over.
People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones, anon. That is literally the most dad thing I've seen in several threads. You're gonna tell me a Asp is all I need next, right?
>>
>>187735586
what are you gonna do with your maxed out anaconda you fucking retard? you've put 800+ hours into the game doing shitty repetitive boring tasks. so now you're completely burned out and you discover that "there's nothing to do" and you quit and cry like a baby. because you're retarded

you skipped all the actual gameplay with your exploits and grinding. the real gameplay are all the activities you do to progress in the game. your progress being the money and the ships you can buy for them. you should do things that are fun, and enjoy getting to the next milestone, not grind until the "endgame", then quit and call the game shit for having no "endgame"

the grind is literally all in your head

Dude, all that is left after those is sociopath. You really need to fucking chill for a second and realize that it is a problem if you see the 4 major personality types and hate all of them because you are projecting yourself on to it and hate what you see. Those are only descriptors, and not representative of actual people. If you see a part that resonates with you, that doesn't mean that you are automatically that person and trapped in that description forever. The other anon said he would be a square on the chart. I think most well rounded people would be. The question is where the center of your square is.

>tells me to kill myself
>tells me he doesn't need this shit
What? I was replying to another anon and you had to jump in and show off your autism for what reason?
>>
>>187708597
The only reason that people play doctors in ss13 is in hopes of murdering someone while maintaining a plausible excuse for why they're at the crime scene, are covered in the victim's blood, and the victim's corpse is covered in forensic evidence pointing towards them. That and having access to the very best medical supplies for their own selfish consumption.

The only time they actually help other players is when they leave a few first aid kits in the waiting room or drag warm corpses over to the geneticist for cloning.

The only reason that the geneticist helps people is because the cloning process is an extraordinarily simple affair that is a small price to pay in an exchange for an opportunity to pursue his true goal, mutating himself in an unstoppable cross between the incredible Hulk and professor X.
>>
>>187736557
Probably the last safe credit exploit.
>>
>>187736557
Apparently it's a bunch of shit you scan with a lander equipped swidewinder, then kill your self to turn in data quicker, then repeat the process getting tons of cash and emp rank in the process, I think.
>>
>>187737178
>>187736557

The mission board was typically generating planet scan missions from only a single planet.

You'd stock up on missions, goto the planet, find the spot and scan the one beacon. Then every mission would count as complete.

Blow yourself up and respawn in base and you keep the mission data. Turn in and you just earned like 5 or so million, a bunch of materials and cargo, rank and faction rep

Also I think the scans would trigger for every commander in the instance too. Plus something about passengers not caring what beacon you scan in a system.

Now it's partly fixed, but it's a little more tricky
>>

>>187736440

Clearly the Explorer are the superior race, only we care about complex gameplay mechanics whereas the other caste can be pathetically fooled by half-assed trick, a scoreboard for achievers, any social gimick for those entertaining fools or a lazy lack of anti-griefing mechanics to attract psychopathic killer.

As you see, only the Explorer master race will be picky and ask designer to step up their game with more sophisticated everything (be it sophisticated murder, difficult achievement or constructive cooperative/social gameplay)
We are the force pushing video game toward greater place.

You wouldn't pick the Asp Explorer over the Diamondback Explore for traveling since the Diamond has the further range in the game.

As I sit and stare at the rebuy screen I question if my purchase of a Python was the right choice. While I wait to respawn my room is soon filled with the smell of coffee and recreational marijuana. I turn around and see none other than Falcon DeLacy himself. "You have made the right choice" he says. "Besides, the Fer De Lance cant haul cargo, which automatically makes it shit."
"What can I do?" I ask. "My shields are only at 325."
"Your shield is too small, a 5A shield cannot wrap her as she deserves. A 6A power plant cannot fill her as she deserves."
It was true. I've had a 6A power plant (overcharged) for a long time. The 7A was just so expensive. It was time that I invest.
"You have the credits you tightass." DeLacy said as he moved though a portal through which I could see mountains of Painite while assuring me that Asp pilots like to watch their wives get fucked by other men while anally pleasuring themselves with a replica of the Beluga Liner with the wings cut off.
I ignored the oddly specific example and headed to a nearby Industrial station that had 7A power plants in stock. With that I could equip 6A shields and shield cell banks. Her shield boosters no longer thirsted for power. Her beam lasers shined for longer. With 645mj of shields between us and the cold, unforgiving void; we headed once more towards Robigo Mines.

Structural materials in the Elite universe are redonkerously strong even without considering shields. We're talking about ships that take minor damage crashing into each other, dive into stellar coronae to fuel up and fly right into the polar jets of pulsars to overcharge their FTL drives. The people themselves would also have to be practically transhuman when there's absolutely no artificial gravity or inertial compensation yet you can pull 25+ Gs before blacking out.

Most ships in space games are even slower than the ones in Elite, SC included.
The materials science and biotech/cybernetics are all in-lore. This is in top of all the spacers and colonists being genetically engineered long ago to better survive in space and on inhospitable worlds. And you can still black/red out and loose control of your ship. Just not as easily as a present day fighter pilot.

>I really don't get how the fuck you're suppose to use a ship that has some fixed and some gimbals guns.
Anti-shield weapons gimbals to drop the shield fast. Anti-armor weapons fixed once it drop.
Some ships might have more weapon than energy to power them. In this case you would put common weapon on gimbals and special weapon on fixed
If a ship is geared with more fixed weapon, it's the reverse, you drop shield using a strong fixed weapon then the gimbals give you more chance to cripple permanently the enemy.

>>187776270
>I really don't understand how they thought gimbals were going to work well with joysticks
Because they do not cater solely to joystick purist, it's as simple as that.

They want people to also have fun with mouse and keyboard, making the -1 size penalty a choice. Some people do like gimballed weapon (it make the ship feel more sophisticated).
Beside, there's way to make gimbal work with gimbals. But Joystick players tend to hate those unless it make them superior to kbm regardless of skills.

I don't understand the mindset it take to not understand that.

I also want remote turret controlled from within the ship, I wish the manned-turret was retroactively explained as old tech from old war
>>
>>187831634
the size penalty is a joke. gimbals favor mouse massively more than that. so it's not that "joystick isn't the best", it's simply that "joystick is completely unviable"

Of course I'm the sort of guy who installed cargo ship mods and wished Star Citizen Hull-Series had been Tugboat/semi-trailer instead of scaffolding clusterfuck. But I can understand why they didn't do that, it would have been a nightmarish waste of time to program an alternate control scheme for propulsion ahead of the center of gravity.

If your payload don't move, yes it's relatively easy but autopilot still have to be reprogrammed at basic level to handle the different equation.
If your payload is dangling to a flexible structure or even a cable, now you have trouble. Look up to Curiosity skycrane. And play any game with realistic rope/crane mechanic to have an idea.

At least SC can count on space aether to slowdown ship if the engine are off.

That's reaching. Chris Robert left development midway, when Microsoft took control they didn't complete the living universe, complex faction system and overall consistency that Chris wanted.
It was cheaper for them to replace it by level-up ship/equipment, black&white faction morality and enemy spawning in some area.

It should still be a stupid idea to travel near the Cathcart system with an undefended Hull full of expensive cargo

Are you trying to sabotage players? They won't get the good ships if they don't do superpower missions.

Binary systems are systems with binary stars. Sometimes all of the stations are orbiting the smaller secondary star. Since ftl jumps only let you enter the system at the location of the primary star, this means that you can easily find yourself with a 20+ minute slow boat ride to that system's stations. These stations have no benefit to encourage you to make such a trek.

We've been asking for intrasystem micro jumps since beta, but the Dads hate that idea.

Terrapin is an Armored scout/sentry ship with some IR/EM stealth systems, powerful sensor arrays, Very thick armor for a ships its size and minimal weapons. It's an eyeball ship for a larger fleet that can afford to specialize vessels into a narrow role.

Given how much love the Carrack gets Im sure a combat carrack would sell well.

Hopefully never. I mean maybe when they have got nothing else to do but really there are so many other ships that need it much more. >>
>>187894468
>so many other ships that need it much more.
Aside from the mustang and 300i, which will almost certainly get remakes before the retailator anyway, which ships exactly? I'd consider it the worst ship in the game currently since the cutlass finally was reworked, and for far more reasons than art design or interior space usage. Without that rework it will be doomed to be limited to doing suicide torpedo runs in the pu by orgs that have piles of money to set fire to.
>>
>>187846214
You shouldn't avoid missions because you're afraid of grind

You just do missions because they pay better and give you rewards, then you get rep for better payouts and rewards and can influence systems to your will. Not doing missions is the dumbest thing you can tell a noob, especially when it's the most effective way to make bank.

What's he going to do? Try make a million by trading medicine with his starting 1000? Smash missions till you get a nice ship (cobra/Viper) then figure out what you want to do

Well I was mostly getting at ships that have just not been made in the first place like the Carrack, Merchantman, 890, Orion, Genesis, Endeavor, Crucible, Polaris, Prowler, Razor, Hurricane, Defender, Eclipse, or most of the Hulls. I know many of those are WIP's but quite a few seem to have stalled, probably to work on ships that are higher priority for SQ42 and professions in 3.X.

We also have quite a few variants that were either made really early and never updated or just not made, like the other three Freelancers, other other two Connies, or other three Reliant variants.
I don't disagree that the Retailator is kinda a dead fish with out a rework but at least it fly and uses up to date visuals.

>Salvage ship smaller than Reclaimer.
It's called a Cutlass.

Small scale metal salvage doesn't make sense, just cutting out valuable parts, a small ship can't grind up much in the way of scrap before it's full up and has to go home. Small scale salvage doesnt need a dedicated ship, just a tool kit, a cargo hold and maybe a cutting laser/tractor combo, making the cutlass perfect, particularly with its air shielded cargo bay and top turret, which could mount both a cutting laser and tractor conveniently.

>>
>>187911440
Yeah, we wildly overestimated CIG's capability to pull it off. They waited until a couple weeks before gamescon to lock in the 3.0 branch and couldn't pull it off. Now we have arbitrary numbers for blockers each week with no list to corroborate it and just have to take CIG's good word for it.
Chris has to be rubbing himself ferociously thinking about dropping the game on stage like bethesda.
>>
>>187911440
It was probably the plan at first once it was clear a First half of 2017 release wasn't going to happen, No I imagine the constant changes in content and ever shifting release date have made the patch such a mess that it's impossible to get to a level of stability they're happy with and chris's autistic need to for positive press in a game thats alreayd paid for means he won't let it out the door until it's commercial release level stable. A thing that is never going to happen, becasue again, every time the date shifts, the content shifts with it and every time the content shifts the need for more testing pushes the date back, repeat ad infinititum, 3.0 literally never the way things are going. They need to push this increasingly constipated turd out, however painful it might be so they can move on from this year long 3.0 farce. This bullshit needs to stop or it is literally going to kill the project.

They're seemingly willing to take the risk of going for the 'Make the biggest update as (((possibly))) and get lots of media coverage/jpeg sales money out of it' route.

Grab the core/optional modules there too. Sell your old internals that the station has doubles of, log out, back in and rebuy them so its all 15% cheaper, it also lowers your insurance rebuys. Whats the DBX for? Upgrading from something?

>they figure the cultists will keep buying their jpegs regardless of how badly they fuck up anyway.
And they will keep buying, more specifically the whales will.
Presumably CiGs plan is to do what they failed to last year, actually show s42 progress at citcon, drop big sc patch (3.0) and launch a big money hype jpeg sale.
>>

It's not even as good as the Aquila, Phoenix, and vastly inferior the carrack. Less cargo, a space bike instead snub, less maneverable, less guns, no point defense turret.

It's only plus is a bridge view without struts blocking everything, even CIG admitted the rediculous price was just because it's "shiny" and suppose to be expensive for bullshit in game reasons.

I'm looking for a ship that gives me the maximum jump I can get for long distance travel if I ever want to meet up with a mate and just pay and wait for the ship transfer for my combat ship. I also want to fit it for exploration missions to sell my discoveries but I'm trying to decide what ship would be best for it.

It's down to ASP Explorer or the Diamondback Explorer but I'm shy 4 million for the ASP.

Also did you mean to include selling all the internal components individually when I sell my current ship or sell it altogether?
>>
>>187915208
Maybe they'll announce they found a new manufacturer for the x52-with-a-track-ball SC hotas that no one wanted
>>
>>187915226
Sell separately, if you sell them with the ship you'll lose 10% of their total value (with the 10% you'll lose from the ship itself).

Store the modules that arent for sale that you want to use on the new ship at the station and sell the ones that are for sale. Then exit to the main menu and re-enter the game, then buy the modules you want for the 15% off. The FSD, powerplant, thrusters and distributor can all be undersized as far as you can push them, but you generally want the best FSD for the biggest jumps.

If you try sell internals or core at stations it will try get you to buy your old ones back at the same price which is why you quit/reload.

DBX has the 2nd longest jump range behind the Anaconda, ASP is 3rd.

I use an ASP Explorer just because of the extra internal slot letting you carry an AFM or SRV or discovery scanner as an extra. When you're getting near 50ly jumps, 2 or 3ly really arent that much of an issue to lose.
Plus when you dock you can outfit it to be a decent combat ship too.

for people saying "the grind is the game, don't cheat yourself," i'm a little confused. on the one hand i get it - i wouldn't sit there grinding quince for money for the rest of my life. but rank grinding, on the other hand, feels like the only tolerable way to deal with it is to find the fastest way possible to just get it over with, hopefully while also making money so it's not a total waste of your time.

Make your ship for its main purpose first, then when you dock at the station just use whatever is available there to make it combat ready. Store the parts you want to save.

Don't fall into the trap of thinking your ship is only one thing. Diamondback Explorers are pretty competent fighters for PvE too. If you're short on funds just get the DBX first then work your way to the ASPEx, it wont take you too long.

The rebuy for a decent kitted ASP is somewhere around the 700k-1.1 million credit mark. Never fly without 2 (two) rebuys.

>>
>>187919892
The rank grind will kill your interest in the game, if you're going to grind anything, do it all at once, rank and credits.

I don't own a cutter or corvette but neither really seems worth the grind, espectially not the Cutter with its 14ly jump range, you'll be spending around 15 million to teleport it to your location too. As for the inbetween ships, theyre alright (FAS handles like a dream) but the FGS, Dropship and Clipper aren't really worth the grind.

Every pilot should at least grind to see the worst system in the game at least once though (Sol).

The question isn't really if they can make the game, they hired enough talent to pull it off unless they somehow all bail on them.
The thing is, the game is getting made and it's going somewhere, but they keep alienating the community with marketing bullshit by giving unrealistic release dates and not announcing delays until after whatever the current ship sale is. They always try to give the impression that the next big update is just around the corner, but in reality there hasn't been a meaningful patch since December 2016, and even that didn't really add that much.
3.0, whenever it releases, was supposed to be *the* patch where it starts resembling something like a game, so if they fuck that up I dunno how people would react. I'd definitely be concerned.
>>
>>187920132

You're using Plasma to take down their shields then lasers to take down their hull? You need kinetic damage, the size 4 cannon is not going to hit anything smaller than a gunship and even then you're going to miss almost every time.

The distributor will be able to take 1 barrage from those PAs before it needs to charge completely and the thrusters are pathetic. Have you even unlocked the advanced plasma?

The A grade scanners take huge amounts of power over B and C grade for minimal range and it seems like you've tried to max the power plant out. You usually just turn them off when you aren't going to be using them so you could easy go over your power by about 10%, but in this case you'd be better dropping the powerplant to a B or C class with the scanners and getting better thrusters.

Chances are you'll never use the cargo scanner at all and as for the ECM, well do you know how to use it? If your shields aren't expected to go down just stick with point defense or another shield booster. Chaff is a 50/50 since even if you pop it, most ships will still be able to hit you 1.5k out since you're such a huge target

No idea what you're trying to do with the ship though, its loadout is all over the place. Those heat sinks are useless if you think you're going to be overheating using your guns, unless your military point is going to have a shield cell bank.

If you're engineering remember that you can just get a C or B rated shield booster and mod that since the only difference the grade provides is raw shield boost % which an engineer can make the difference up on with an average grade 1 roll.

Hoping someone jumps on me for all this,

Deliver 6 tons of X to Y
60k starting plus the grade 3 material of my choice, small amount of influence and a touch of rank
While you're there grab a data delivery or two to the same system/station for an extra 30k each + mats + rank + influence
OR
Buy 16 tons of cargo and hope to make 1k profit/ton, using your own money and taking all the risk yourself, almost no influence in the station you sell at and 0 rank.

Both have the same chance of being jumped by an NPC at the next instance.

But sure, lets avoid missions because they dont pay out. Don't even talk about larger loads when we're looking at starters here, 16T is generous as fuck for cargo since a size 4 is a bigger ship, meaning not noob anymore.

It's definitely a difficult development; the thing with large scale projects is that investment is committed early on (typically 80%+), and then systems engineering is conducted (an aspect of strategy and management) and cemented during the first 15% of the project. This is how you create a project with a realistic, deployment horizon, an understanding on life-cycle systems required to be ready on-release, and confidence that a) the product verifies against what you want it to be able to do, and b) the product validates against what your customers think it is [note: unless your customer is a technical expert, this is not the same as verification; creep of expectations is causes validation criteria to drift from verification criteria].

Simply put, it is not feasible for a project to receive massive unplanned funds part way into development.

I don't think RSI appreciated this in a management sense, so they started adding features, without realising that this affects the entire structure of the project - from compatibility of game systems, to shared code bases, workload model etc.

We've now see the consequences; expanded features take longer than expected to develop. They have to freeze work, and move back to the systems engineering stage of development. Once they capture new requirement and functions, understood the life-cycle etc., they must go back and categorising existing work. Seeing what can be salvaged, what can be made interoperable, what cannot. This is neither easy nor obvious. A lot of complexity is added with scope.

So there's the why. Is it a scam? Doubt it. Will it be good? Their underlying systems seem okay, so I expect at least a polished small-scale online game, much like the 24-person PU.

What they needed was a systems engineering from the aerospace industry. Someone that deals with 5k+ employee structures, and $1bn+ contracts. It would've cost much less than the wasted development and time we've seen the past two years.

Seems like a shit offering to me. They're like, "well, of course it doesn't have much cargo, it's like a sportscar", and then "of course it doesn't have much maneuverability, it's too big". The thing is, a luxury car is usually luxurious... but also very good at the thing it's designed to do. Maybe not all that much better than a much cheaper alternative, but still at least slightly better.

In the vid for the trade show they did last year, the announcer mentioned in passing that Origin is known for producing beautiful and comfy but mediocre designs. If they're going to do that, then I get in-game playing it up, but out-of-game they need to be clear that these are intended to be sub-par in hard game terms but prestigious and luxurious-looking. They're mixing up their in-character sales pitch with the out-of-character fiduciary responsibility to represent their intentions accurately.

And if they don't think people will sign on for concept sales like that, then they need to rethink what they're offering. An Origin need not be game-breakingly awesome to be good enough to justify its price.

In a fucking video game, I don't give a flying fuck about what chair I'm in because my ass doesn't actually sit in the thing.

also;
>"of course it doesn't have much maneuverability, it's too big"
This game's going to be real boring if the cutlass ends up the largest ship that's still relatively fun to fly instead of handling like a concrete filled condom on ice. The connie is useless right now because you might as well just move up to the starfarer size ships as the difference in speed and handing is so pathetically tiny.

Why are you "recalling" (you're wrong by the way), you dont play the game anymore so your information is outdated, not every mission will spawn NPCs and the game tells you if they are spawned, you can evade 90% of the AIs interdictions too, especially in a noob ship so I dont get what your point is.

Carrying cargo, mission or not is enough for an NPC to have a chance of spawning in the next instance you jump into.

Materials arent collectible by NPCs, they travel with you ship to ship, so NPCs dont attack you for it unless you mean mission reward cargo stuff, then you sell that at the station for more money and faction influence.

You have some rallying campaign and I've sid it plenty, you want people to play shit and fuck up like you did, because you were a horrible pilot. No wonder you dont play anymore, you didnt know shit about the game.

You can still find salvage but the game has moved on past that, the (salvage) money is now in alien artefacts. Relic AI and ancient artefacts and art and the rest isnt very valuable. Fuel used to be expensive too, but again, the galaxy has progressed while you still think the game is at 1.1 or something

I mean holy shit, noobs after a week know more than you do.

The months tick on as cryengine 3 starts to show its age more and more.

When the game is released these "impressive" graphics that are already starting to show their age compared to modern games that are already out are going to be pretty lacklustre.

Call me a graphics whore if you want, but thats half the reason you like these ships.
>>
>>187941441
While I agree that graphics will continue to get better as time progresses, don't think that what we see in games is going to progresses very far past the high end we see now except in a few exceptional cases. This is because the cost of asset development only increases with how "good" they are and at a point a game stops being viable as a product when it just costs too much for the market to recoup. Also the increased cost is a reflection of man hours needed at there is also a point where a team becomes so large that you start to see diminishing returns on there effectiveness. I think the response to this and what we will need to happen if video games are ever going to be the holodeck one day is increased automation of the process facilitated by AI.

>>
>>187942938
I'm old as hell and I've seen it come up from shit to what we have now.

You're kidding if you think we're near the wall yet, sure the density and requirements for depth and quality are skyrocketing but so is the hardware pushing it all and the money coming into the industry is of such a gigantic scale compared to what it used to be that they will need to keep pushing the envelope harder and harder to squeeze as much currency as they can.

No AAA company is just going to lay down and stop, they really cant afford to. But none of this matters anyway considering how cryengine 3 is nowhere near the limitations being discussed and is nearing its end of life as a viable product for major developers to start making new games on.

The entire "muh luxury" argument is stupid because just making something look good doesn't justify the price. All the "b-but a sports car has less space in the trunk than a family van" shit completely ignores that luxury cars tend to be faster and use better components, but everything the 600i has going for it is using a different set of textures while actually performing worse than a ship that costs like half as much.

For people who claim to hate Star Citizen, I notice that naysayer and troll are consecrating a lot of time into shilling the game.

They present good arguments in a so retarded way that you don't want to take them seriously and lean for the opposite meaning, that SC is just badmouthed. and their shittiest arguments make SC look amazing when they deliver it
They even help CIG justify the 10 month delay by taking retarded goalpost.

It's amazing how they can't even dent SC's supply, even if SC wasn't already filthy rich enough to keep going, all the jpeg bashing result in backer being proud of having money to spend rather than wondering if there's such a things as too much.

tl;dr
SC hater are not hating it correctly

[/blog]
>>
>>187952137
You could just upgrade as you see fit, initially that 10% loss seems like a lot but by the time you can afford to buy and kit a decent ship, the 10% ends up as almost nothing compared to the money the better ship can bring in.

In no time you'll be throwing down millions of credits at random mission boards for easy rank anyway, plus multi crew you can get a million in under an hour during a cg easy

Dudes like a BR or something and is both literally retarded and possessed of remarkably bad reading comprehension while also being a living example of the Dunning-Kruger effect. He's so stupid he doesn't understand that he's stupid and thinks that whatever pops into his head after he misunderstands his way through something is reality. He will then will persist in the defense of his invented reality and head-canon for hours and hours at a time. Never making any sense or being coherent in the process, just spewing misinformed half understood monkey-with-a-language-barrier tier bullshit. He is either an extremely dedicated troll who has invented a role for himself and plays it fanatically, or he is literally one of the most retarded people to ever manage to post on the internet.

Don't feed him either way. If you see horribly mauled English, filled with logical inconsistencies and half baked delusions, just realize it is him and don't reply, you'll get nothing from it but post after post of poorly written nonsense, thoroughly shitting up the thread until he either thinks everyone agrees with him or he gets called a lower primate repeatedly and chimps out.

Cobra is an excellent general purpose ship in of itself, with the defining trait of being one of the fastest ships in the game.

Diamondback Explorer is less maneuverable and has less internal customization bays, but is the coolest running ship (making it an excellent smuggler), has better cockpit visibility and has the longest jump range in the game. It's also a small ship, relatively tiny compared to other elite ships.

Asp Explorer has better jump range than the Cobra, better cargo space, better cockpit visibility, but in combat it's mediocre due to it's size, a tall and wide medium ship with a massive cockpit.

Vulture is one of the best combat ships in the game (then Fer De Lance, Fed Assault Ship) and has an excellent cockpit, but has terrible jump range, is relatively slow and has little internal space. It's a space superiority fighter.

What kind of ship you get depends on what you like to do.

I tried playing it again and I was enjoying it much more than the first go round. Base building adds a little bit of progression and "comfyness" if you're into that and exocraft make exploring the planets much less tedious. Also the planet generation is a bit less fucked. However I dropped it again when the game decided to just cast me back about 20-odd restore points and 3-4 hours of game-play for seemingly no reason even though checking the galactic map showed that all the systems I had discovered in that time were still credited to me. The same thing had happened once before on a much smaller scale, just 1 system and less than an hour lost. I let it go that time because I hoped it was some mistake of mine and resolved to carefully save before exiting but when I took the trouble to actually go and build the tech implement named "Save Point" and check my connection to the servers first yet it still happened the time had come to play something else.

Honestly the gameplay is pretty fun for relaxing escapism but not worth it to play as is desu

The campaign was shit, the villians 2 demensional as fuck, and the space flight and zero g mechanics could have been good but they utterly failed to actually have any interesting missions that used them in an way beside generic shooting gallerys. The game could have been a next gen colony wars with on foot combat, but they completely failed to do anything with all the tools they had, it's like a reverse star citizen in that way.

The only decent part was the solar powered robot mission where you're on a station drifting towards a sun, and even that barely did anything with what could have been mechanics worth building an entire game around.

I'm not sure what this is referring to. I've never noticed anything I'd describe this way. If you mean detents, there aren't any. The controls are super easy to get into and tinker with though so you could add some if you really wanted to.
>>

Just a bit to get used to it, dual stick really helps with aiming, since I can precisely use my thrusters to finetune my reticle position. You also ideally don't want to move over the center while aiming so it's good to always strafe in some direction, so you can keep your right stick angled. And switch your firing trigger to the left stick, so you don't throw of your aim with clocking.

Python will let you earn more credits faster while doing more thanks to the internals. I'd say get the Python first and then save for a FAS.

Once you have the cash for a FAS with A grade engines then get that and you'll notice how nicely it handles especially compared to a Python. But don't buy either unless you can afford to at very minimum outfit the whole ship D rated with Bi-weaves in the 2nd largest slot with 2 rebuys.

>>
>>188021883
UE4 was not out at the time they started (mid-late 2011) and really would have no significant benefits over CE3. so shilling unreal is completely pointless.

Cryengine was just right for what he originally wanted to do, which was instance based dogfighting and planetary hotspots that would fit into a standard cryengine level just fine and use the already excellent level streaming and mmo capabilites of the engine.

changing the requirements so drastically so late into development was a massive mistake and really required a whole different engine, one that doesn't really exist. so they should have written their own like fdev did.
>>
>>188021818
>reading comprehension
>>
>>188022078
That's why I said Chris should have waited a year because UE4 came out in 2012. Can you read?
Also UE4's component system is a massive boon no matter what sort of game you're making. It's what CIG calls "Item 2.0" and which is why they spent so much time and effort implementing it. Cryengine also has a famously bad documentation and is spaghetti code through and through. Also there are like a billion devs with UE experience, so they wouldn't have to chase after the two dozen or so devs that know CE, or would have to put up with those Illfonic retards.
Denying that UE4 was objectively the better choice just shows that you have no idea about anything. Just like Chris, I guess. He chose CE because of its shiny graphics, not because of practical development reasons.

But if you do, you get a good engine adapted for large scales. I just looked it up, CryEngine got a component system in fucking December 2016, and apparently it's pretty shitty too.
