Read the General problems FAQ before asking questions. If you still need help, post your specs (Speccy screenshot), operating system, emulator version number and details of what's wrong.

Please contribute to the wiki if you discover any inaccuracies or have relevant information to append.

READ THE WIKI BEFORE ASKING QUESTIONS LIKE:
>Where do I get games
OR
>Where do I get Nintendo games
OR
>Where do I get PS3 games
OR
>Where do I get 3DS games
OR
>Where do I get games
OR
>What is the best emulator for...

Check out the wiki for the emulator you're using if you run into trouble, there may be a solution there too, often including recommendations for optimal game settings.

Remember to submit bug reports or shit won't get fixed.

It replaces the character portraits with versions that resemble Aria of Sorrow or other Castlevania games. The character portraits in the original release looked like shit.

I patched it no problem. Here's the command I used:

Im trying to get some knowledgeable people together who would like to help me in further improving Parallel N64. So far I think LegendOfDragoon and mudlord are taking an interest in the core, so I'm hoping we can make some progress with some of these things. Right now we are spending time having to convert over assembly code to MASM format so it works properly with Visual Studio, and there were also some problems with some of logan's AI refactors which is causing sporadic crashes in Visual Studio (some division by vi->clock is causing segfaults), so we are trying to find ways to fix that too.

No. The problems that are in 5.0 are still there. Ubershaders fix stuttering that affected maybe a dozen games in total, but cause massive slowdown.
>>
Logan argues that using a per-game fix to make Perfect Dark boot in LLE mode is the wrong approach, and it should be an incentive to find a more accurate solution. https://github.com/mupen64plus/mupen64plus-core/pull/371#issuecomment-325076258

They affect GC games, too.
>>
>>187275819
DK64 is a very complicated situation because the fundamental problem is a lack of cycle accuracy. You can't just "fix" that. You can craft more elegant hacks, but you'll never fix the issue the right way.
>>

Most games in Dolphin are effected by shit framerate, not shader stuttering. Maybe they should have sorted that out first.

>I can't tell you how many times some innocuous update has either fixed or tanked a games framerate.
Sometimes performance sacrifices must be made for accuracy. Sometimes things get optimized. It all balances out in the end.

Oh nevermind, it seems IMGBurn is a perfectly good option for it. I know it does support saving to .bin and .cue.
>>
>>187278974
>I was lied to. All of these years I thought Die hard trilogy was some sort of rail shooter,
It's three games in one, a TPS, a rail shooter and a driver ripoff.
>>
>>187279093
Oh I see. It's just that when I was a kid my dad wanted to buy a guncon ripoff with Point Blank 2 and the chick at the store was trying to sell us Die Hard Trilogy, but for some reason my dad has this mentality of "guns are ok as long as they're not used against living things".

So I always associated this game to a guncon game.

You gotta admit -- Logan-brah does have some idea what he's doing. https://github.com/mupen64plus/mupen64plus-core/pull/375 Fixes like this are essential, and will benefit every version of m64p including libretro's. I personally think it's great that N64 emulation is making progress and various areas are catching up with each other.

Hmm, I do care about input lag. Last time I tried using my PS1 on my CRT TV I felt like I was missing something with emulators and it wasn't the visuals, so I guess I do have some sensitivity to that or the fact my fucking PS1 needed some pot adjusting.

>>187283695
I didn't exactly know if 8.1/10 had some sort of automatic switch but if it's forced to the point it cannot be disabled by any software then yeah, fuck that. I guess 7 it is.

>>
>>187284335
Keep in mind that the input lag isn't THAT significant. Some emulators have input lag that is already much higher than what DWM introduces.

It's possible to disable DWM on 8.1 by killing dwm.exe but it also requires suspending the winlogon.exe process or it'll keep coming back.

What driver version are you using?

Try latest and some older version like 376.33
>>
>>187287429

Assuming you are running the latest drivers it simply might be a case of Nvidia not offering much in the way of vulkan support for such an old card - Kepler is is nearly 5 years old by this point and the 660 was never top of the stack when new.
>>
>>187287403
Linux with compositing is worse, stay away from that. Even X without composting is not that great.

OSX is the only one to get it right as is it outright lies to the application in regards to video refresh so it ends up unknowingly compensating for it.
>>
>>187287710
>OSX is the only one to get it right as is it outright lies to the application in regards to video refresh so it ends up unknowingly compensating for it.

Damn. That's so weird.

I used hackintosh for a while and RetroArch had no troubles there, but somehow both OpenEmu and Phoenix ran like garbage. I couldn't figure out why at all. I was getting performance issues that I haven't had in years on Windows. Yet RetroArch had 0 problems.

You can get the 8300 isntead which is clocked the same just without the ability to OC but the 7700 is clocked lower than the k version (base 4.2Ghz vs base 3.6Ghz) so in htat case it's really not worth the 20 bucks difference.

Having a ROM database to compensate for incorrect headers or weird cartridge hardware is not a per-game hack, it's a compensation for ROM file formats that don't preserve enough information about the hardware inside the cartridge.

Changing the behavior of the hardware inside the emulated system itself is qualitatively different. Sometimes it's still the right tradeoff though, since a perfectly accurate emulator that's too slow to use is not very useful.

Bayonetta 2 claims to be in the green on the CEMU ("Playable", the one right below "Perfect"). Can anyone attest to this?

Also BotW is only in "Runs" (Yellow). Does it run okay yet?
>>
>>187324447
Cemu's compatibility list definitions are kinda dumb. There's a huge gap between "runs but cannot be completed due to glitches" and "playable with only minor issues", some games have significant gameplay issues but can still be completed (splatoon for example has a bug that makes platforms impossible to paint so you can't progress, but there are ways around it)
The biggest glitch in BOTW that comes to mind is the broken camera rune but that's fixed in 1.9.1 (there might be other issues, but I haven't played the game for more than an hour so I don't really know)
>>
>>187325379
Broken camera...rune?

Nice to hear it's apparently fixed, though.
>>
>>187325560
In the game there's a camera that lets you take pictures of stuff, this is required to progress. Prior to 1.9.1 framebuffer capture was not implemented so saved pictures would show up completely black. But the game would still recognize what you took a picture of, so it didn't really prevent the game from being completed.

Why? Supporting multiple plugin specs is complicated, and sometimes behavior differs between emulators. In this case, there's something wrong with resetting/loading save states. Alpha transparencies break on PJ64. There aren't a whole lot of reasons to use PJ64 over mupen64plus at this point, anyway.

That doesn't mean you should completely give up on supporting them. Other good emulators like PPSSPP support D3D9.

Should Gonetz ditch OpenGL 3.3 and switch to vulkan to achieve better accuracy?

Can someone please help me?

I recently switched to RetroArch, and I'm playing on a laptop with a keyboard. With some PSP games I can't get the characters to move, but rather I can only move the camera around (this happens in Ape Escape, for example).

Now, as far as I can tell this is clearly because RetroArch doesn't map the analogue sticks to the keyboard by default, and some games use right analogue to move. I can map right analogue to other keys, but it ends up being a mess due to all the interference with RetroArch's hotkeys. I could get rid of the hotkeys, but honestly, that's messy as well.

Anyway, my question is, is there any way to change input configurations on a per-game basis so I can just use up/down/left/right for analogues for the couple games that aren't working properly? Or is there any core setting (PPSSPP's, in this case) that will let me switch analogue to digital on the fly? I've tried messing with the options, but nothing seems to come of it. Google turns up nothing, since evidently the vast majority of people just use RA with a joypad, but that's not an option for me. So I figured I'd ask here, maybe one of you knows something? Something that'll let me switch controls without having to remap all keys and hotkeys all the time.

Thanks.

Nobody understands what the problem is. Not Angrylion, not SP, not Gonetz. The fact games like OoT work correctly on Angrylion's is just a fluke. It's not easy to fix a problem you don't understand, Vulkan or not Vulkan. Having a Vulkan backend for GLideN64 won't magically feed Ocarina of Time and Animal Crossing and Paper Mario the buffer data they're looking for.

>Welcome to the future.

A software renderer should not force any particular graphics API, since they render to a buffer in RAM, which then gets copied into the GPU by whatever API you use. It should have used D3D9 or OpenGL 2.0 for better compatibility with weak GPUs.
>>
>>187409885
If you're on a system with such a weak GPU that it doesn't support GL 3.x(GPUs older than the Nvidia 8000 series!) then your CPU probably isn't powerful enough to even get half speed with renderer.

That's not good logic though. What if they're using an Intel iGPU whose drivers have buggy support for OpenGL 3.x? There's no reason for a software renderer to use above OpenGL 2.0. You're kidding right? The RDP is largely unoptimised. Fixing all the flaws takes lots of time, so we NEED more people working on that.

>$1000? Don't be silly. You can build an N64 emulation machine for $500, easy.
son, the market for graphics cards is a rip off right now. Also, Angrylion is necessary for some games, so a good CPU is a must. I exaggerated a bit on the price, but it's certainly more than $500.

All because people insist on arbitrarily high system requirements for proper N64 emulation. They basically gave up before giving an honest effort.

I think it's sad that people spent over $700 on buggy HLE for Rogue Squadron and not a nickel on optimising proper LLE. This is why we can't have nice things.

I have a few questions for you anons, hopefully you can help me. I'm having some issues with VBA. I would like to use the newest available version (the one I found here http://vba-m.com/index.php?ind=downloads&op=entry_view&iden=66) but it will not remember my settings for the next time I open it (border automatic, filter, gameboy automatic, etc.) and I am not sure how to load the filters or plugins I downloaded into it. I would just use the 'link" version I have (the one I found here http://www.emulator-zone.com/download.php/emulators/gba/vboyadvance/VBALink/vbalink180b0.zip) since it does remember these options and already has plugins and filters loaded into it, however whenever I open it, it forces my windows theme to basic and I hate that. Can anyone help me fix any of these issues on either version?

Also, on the first version I spoke of, the colors sometimes get screwy like this, even though I just have "game boy colors" set.

So, about Zelda on Cemu. It's because of AMD's fucking abysmal OpenGL support that I'm getting around 15-20 FPS, right?

i5 4690K, not overclocking right now but even when I bumped it up to 4GHz the FPS didn't change any. GPU is R9 380.

I've seen people getting way better performance with worse CPUs and GPUs, but they've always had Nvidia instead. Can't really seem to find anyone else in the same boat.

At this point, the only thing I can think it would be is OpenGL. Using that in Dolphin or PCSX2 in the past was horrible, if I'm remembering it correctly, so that's gotta be it.

So what's the difference between using RetroArch and say snes9x rather than just directly using snes9x? The wiki says RetroArch has amazing graphics and sound, but I don't understand how RetroArch itself has that when it's just using an emulator that you choose.

It has a really good, probably the best, selection of shaders; and it has dynamic rate control, which let's you have perfect AV sync without audio buffer over/underruns, and afaik it is still the only emulator/frontend that has this.

It is an internet street cred thing, all open source shitters are like that. They don't want to share code, they just want to share their ego.
Why do you think there is such a shitstorm when a project is closed source? The shitters can't "fork" it and claim they fixed it for internet points. They can say "oh it about preservation" all they want but we know the true reason. Jealousy.
>>
>>187528038
I think it's more about control rather than ego. They want things to be done their way.

To some extent I don't blame them. There are some projects that I wouldn't want to put on git (perhaps a plugin). Dunno if I would want that kind of control for a large project (like an entire emulator) though.

Both open source and closed source have their flaws. With open source, you're more vulnerable to BS like code theft, license violators, etc. And yes, forks can be problematic too. I think open source is more prone to drama too.

>Then why make it open source?
That's a good question. My guess would be that since they benefited from other open source emu's they feel that they have a moral obligation to open source.

Basically that would be the only reason I'd open source a project that I wanted lots of control over. Through my observations, I have found that people are often on their own, for emulation development. So open source is usually not that beneficial. N64 emulation is a prime example. Hardly anyone does anything significant. A lot of it is a copy paste job from Oman's and other docs. Might as well close source your emulator and make some cash from it.

>Fucking open source shitters are nutters.

I'd rather deal with people getting butthurt over close sourced emulators, than deal with losers commenting on how "unclean" someone else's code is. Some people are so obsessed with 'muh clean code' that they prioritize that over actual performance and functionality...

People literally rip off code from others.. Byuu's code is not 100% written by him, yet he sold licenses and kept 100% of the money. Closed source authors don't have to put up with this nonsense. They have the luxury of doing what they want, without these obstacles in the way.

That text would have looked better on Windows 95 then it does there. Most fonts and font renders these days are made with anti-aliasing in mind. You can tell by all those stray pixels in your image, they are there so when it's smoothed over the end result looks better.

Hey emugen, I'm getting a new phone soon as well as the upcoming 8bitdo SNES ProController. Will any modern phone do the job as an emulation machine or are there any specific ones that work better? I kinda want to clear all those ROMs in my 3ds for other games.
>>
When will it not take 6 days to download all of the SNES thumbnails in RetroArch

Seriously not once have I managed to download this fast. Someone should perhaps compress and reupload that shit.
>>
>>187602581
Entirely depends on what systems you're trying to emulate, but yes, the specs of the phone do matter.

>>187602660
Their servers have definitely been slower as of late, which is strange with all of those patreon betabux rolling in.
>>
>>187602581
All that you would have to worry about is getting a phone with a decent processor, and frankly $150 ones are good enough on that front. Your issues are going to be battery consumption and input lag.
>>
>>187602883
>>187602941
Well, I don't know much about the limits of a phone, but I'd enjoy having a powerful one that reaches said limits. Money is not an issue, I just want good ol' vidya.
>>
>>187603218
If money isn't an issue, is there any reason in particular it has to be a phone? The Shield, while being an expensive meme machine, is the optimal solution for mobile emulation if you're looking to play gen5 shit at 100% speed.
>>
>>187603218
Honestly, while I think there's not a big market for "emulation consoles" like the Wiz, Caanoo or Dingoo back then, I think it'd be pretty cool to have something adequately powerful. In my opinion, phones are still not as comfortable (attempts have been made at making custom controllers for them, but very few seem to get it right and some are custom made for very few models of phones) and Vita and 3DS are still green on that front with the latter not being powerful enough to emulate PS1.

>I really need to find a way to convey to people what forks mean: programming is art, and higan is my magnum opus. Shame that so many of these talented developers are also raging fucking spiteful autists that spend more time obsessing over what some dumb niggers on cuckchan (myself included) or plebbit are saying about them than WORKING ON THEIR FUCKING EMULATORS. SP is right about one thing: if this wasn't a "pride" issue, and these devs cared half as much about the scene as they claimed to, they'd be maintaining their own upstream cores so that they can get the best version of their software in as many hands as possible.

But no, they'd rather take the bait, play the victim, and drag the scene down with them.

>programming is art, and higan is my magnum opus.

>If you spent years designing something, and someone came along and defaced it, you'd probably be pretty upset, too.

You designed something that is still fine, and your own. Someone made a copy, and they can do with that copy as they see fit. He's freaking out over people doing something with their copy. The entire philosophy of Open source is the free exchange of code to foster creativity, and experimentation. A fork may try something unorthodox or interesting which the original author may have never thought of. Byuu should be grateful for the fork, and should see if there's anything he could learn from it.

It's nice to see that Byuu, like all emudevs seems to reject the open source philosophy and guards their code like some national treasure that must never be touched or seen by anyone else.

Cosmo. A very popular speedrunner a few years ago. He would speedrun several Zelda games, Castlevania 64 and some other shit.

He wasn't exactly amazing but it was decent to watch. He seemed chill as well, though the only quirky thing about him was that he painted his fingernails. Should have seen that one coming. After a while it was just a stream of him counting money from donations. This was before he turned into the abomination known as Narcissa. Then it all went downhill from there and showed how demented and manipulative he was.
>>
>>187626235
>He wasn't exactly amazing
He still managed toi compete for the WR and was the first to imp^lement a TAS only trick in his OoT route iirc.

But he got cucked of his WR by a Swede and that didn't go over so well for him, especially after hyping his 18:10 as some sort of godlike achievement.

Maybe he should be competitive at something different, something productive.

Okay, I searched as far as I could, so it finally came to this.

I want to emulate Miitopia, but I know I need Mii data. I just updated my 3DS, so I'm out of luck.

Is there any place where I could fins someone's NAND dump to put it in Citra and use their data to start the game?

There's no solid PS1 emulator. Most of them don't even have a good UI..

pretty good start when mednafen doesnt even launch

then pcsxr makes all options inaccessible when a game starts. also has no ds4 support, clicking the buttons on the controller map sets its to like JO-XXX something but its not the controller and theres no default option to go back to the keyboard mapping they had.

epxe or whatever crashes whenever you try to load a game

not him, but standalone mednafen is not user friendly. I couldn't figure out how to use it until trying out different launchers. Even then I had a serious performance issue until I went through the different options and found out that switching the renderer to sdl fixed the problem.

Ideally, users shouldn't have to go through great lengths to figure this stuff out.

Oh yeea.. And i just remembered the pain i had to go through for setting up the bios. Had a problem due to the fact that my bios was apparently different.. I had already downloaded a bios pack from emuparadise and none of them matched the name of the one required. I had to rename one of them lol.
>>
>>187637873
I'm not edginess. PS1 emulation is fairly simple and compared to emulators of old you don't have to mess around with plugins anymore if you don't want to. If you haven't managed to follow the simple instructions that are over documented on these emulators, no one should take the blame other than you. No one develops these emulators for you, and you have another option which is to buy the original platform. PS1s are sort of cheap these days, too.

No one told you anything because you came here like "buh buh this don't work buh buh" instead of asking a normal question like a normal person that's just looking for help. You made an untrue claim instead and sperged out like you were new on the internet, but not polite.

There's a wiki linked at the top of the page with countless links to different emulators, you're even given BIOS files (which by the way, were definitely harder to find before). You could ask something that was already answered in that Wiki, but no, not even that. Just "emulation on ps1 is terrible". It's gold compared to other platforms, like n64. Pure gold.

Seems to me like it's simple enough to figure out with a simple google search / reading the documentation or wiki and you were just too lazy to do it until told you were a retard repeatedly.

I don't even know how people get that much trouble considering this isn't even close to begin hard to deal with and even the actually hard stuff in emulation rarely takes more than a moment of clarity to work out.

You put the required file with the proper name in the system folder, or you just download the pak from the wiki, drop it in that folder and forget about it forever.

Because packaging a BIOS is illegal since it's owned and copyrighted by the console manufacturer, you could do it true but you would get your ass C&Ded (or worse) so fast it wouldn't be worth the effort.

It is from time to time people just reup it pretty fast but since it's an anonymous uploader they don't deem it worth the trouble to go any farther than taking down the link, some actual dev will leave more trails and also iirc just uploading the BIOSes as an user doesn't fall exactly under the same thing as making an emulator and providing copyrighted stuff with it (aka if you do the latter they can fuck you harder)
