So I was reading that the reason the WW2 asset pack is charged for and so expensive is because the AI models have internal modelling on them you'll never see.

And we have trains on the sand map.

A combination of a slavic understanding of economics (the asset pack conforms with Marx's labour theory of value but nobody else's) and a lack of management control over priorities have brought us to this.

Here is my plan to rehabilitate DCS. I'm just getting it out of my system.

1. Sign deal with top FSX plane developers. None of them are rich, the chance to 'sweat' assets won't be unappealing to them.
2. Set up import pipeline for 3D assets (fairly trivial).
3. Switch internal developers to converting in systems/flight model only to FC3 level.
4. Develop more free terrain, fictional locales as DCS isn't exactly historical anyway. We'll let you charge for real-world as you're kind of trapped in doing this now and you might argue this is time consuming (don't believe you but we'll let it go).

There isn't a lot they can do about the time it takes to make a Leatherneck or a Belsimtek level module in a situation where you can't expand the market but its reached a kind of existential problem with mis-matched aircraft with no natural opponents, let alone a "digital battlefield" full of them so I say instead of an F/A-18 every four years, ED need to take responsibility for flooding it with survey-level stuff, at least an FC3 every year.

In terms of air superiority the Su-27S (initial production variant/the one we have in DCS) can hold its own against an F16C but it's just not as multirole like the ones I listed.

It's absolutely comfy. I was never into civi stuff but I wanted a break and a change of pace from DCS since it's in an awkward development time at the moment. X-plane is the prettiest and runs the least ass of all the sims. It was worth buying to me because the 1.2 update made it run a lot better (I started with a yarr harr version). The best texture mod for it Orthro is free, you can pirate all the good addons
