Thats the problem with the general, its half posters that dont want to place effort while posting and want discussion or content given to them on the mouth and most are not even grateful to contribute when someone posts something good other than to criticize it whenever is bad. They wont care to complement it (its ok unless you want to attention whore) or give criticism about it.
Thats why the only content left are shitposting and low quality baits, which is what the other half of posters strike for. They wont care to support or contribute to good content but whenever someone says something midly infuriating everyone suddenly starts posting and gets on a meaningless discussion that will lead nowhere.
Im not saying you not wanting to make the new thread is bad though, Im also tired of the general going nowhere.

Is the inventory screen distance adjustable? It looks like aiming the pointer when crafting would be difficult.

I'm not sure if the distance is adjustable, but you can move around since it's attached to the actual inventory. Heck, even just leaning or taking a step back, or for things like books leaning forward a bit and then back to neutral if it spawns too close.
In general though the distances are pretty legible if you're standing, and the only real awkward things are if you're sitting down

Oh also, since someone asked last time I posted about VR I discovered how to force the keyboard to come up with default binds when using Touch controllers. Left grip + y will bring it up, though with vivecraft it can be kinda wonky still, I can only reliably type with my left pointer if it's not a dedicated text box (book, clipboard, sign, etc).
Most importantly though, the keyboard can be used for hotkeys like this! If I force up the keyboard just standing in the world and hit J it'll bring up the big journeymap, so I don't have to grope for my keyboard.

Mobs seem to freeze for a moment after you teleport (which has a momentary cooldown), though I'm not sure if that's intentional or just how the game's loading handles it. It's just Journeymap, which does have a 1.12 version that I'll assume works- the one I'm using is 1.11.2.

As mentioned before, if you force the keyboard open (left grip + y with touch controllers) and press J, it'll open up the big map so you can configure it all in-VR if you please, though you'll probably need to close the keyboard first.

I have it configured so that the map location is 'center'. Normally that would be a pain because it's in the center of your HUD, but with vivecraft that pane is attached to your left arm so between the inventory hotbar and WAILA it's a sweet Buzz Lightyear-esque information panel you can look at. You could probably play around with its location and WAILA's location for your own personal taste.

You can't use journeymap's default zoom in/out binds from the steamvr keyboard though, so you'll either need to rebind them or just use your keyboard when necessary.

I've given up on pub servers. The vast majority are vanilla normie shitholes and like you described. Some guy was harassing us and killing us and my friends doxxed him, if you can call googling his username and digging his facebook doxxing. Most of my friends got banned, but literally the same thing happened with someone else and microtransactions weren't involved and nothing happened. Mods didn't even blink.

Any modded server I'd play on already has people lightyears ahead in tech and resources, assuming they're even running a pack I want to play. Now I mostly do stuff like Autism serb or just solo-autism with the pack of my choice. I want to do a Gregtech skyblock pack but I there's one pack that suits that and I can't get it working.

Sure thing. Unfortunately, it isn't quite functional.
The guns render all backwards in your hand and... you can't shoot them, at least not using Touch controllers. I think techguns, for whatever goddamn reason, has hooked itself to the mouse click event and not the attack function in minecraft, because if I reach out and use my mouse to click they'll fire just fine.

I haven't played Minecraft in a long while, I remember when i started modding i downloaded individual mods like Mo' Creatures and The Aether.

I remember i had pink cherry trees and a bunch of neat stuff, not sure if that was part of the mods above.

This must've been in 2011/2012 or something.

A bit later I played Tekkit on a multiplayer server with some friends, which was pretty neat with a lot of different content.

Anyways I'm looking for an easy to install complete mod-pack for 1.7.10. I don't know enough about modding and cba to mix and match and deal with conflicts installing individual mods (my autism flared up recently when i was modding skyrim).

I'll be playing singleplayer.

Thaumcraft seems neat and i like all the magic stuff, is there a good modpack based around that?

Is there a clear winner for the best complete modpack?

If you want to settle there, you will need to either export a lot of shit from other biomes or discover ways to use bone. THats why I made the bonestone blocks and tinker's construct helped me with the low grade bone tools. THey were good enough to flat out an area to make a village, and cheap to maintain. I've followed the project since its genesis and yeah, it doesn't look like much now. The mod does have a decent texture artist, they just haven't gotten around to most stuff yet. I'm hoping that if they get around to it the visuals will get fixed up, but I haven't checked up on progress in ages.

Other than that, I don't think it'll ever be as good as Witchery, because duh, none of these shallow clones will ever be as good as Witchery. I don't know what anyone expected. My only hope is that it'll fix itself up a bit (since these are very early releases and not meant to be played) and at least offer a little bit of nice circle magic. But again, I don't know why anyone would expect it to be good, especially at this early stage. Emoniph didn't just make mods that anyone could make.

Create an item that's just currency, can't be acquired any other way than being given by an admin or by preforming some function that generates a small amount of currency. Create unique things that can be done with the currency, making it have value. If you're going to accept items for currency, limit it to stuff that's very rare and can't be continuously generated (Diamonds are useful since it makes players choose between diamond equipment and currency, Wither/Ender Dragon Trophies in limited quantities are also good, just limit the amount that can be traded per week). Player to player trading should be the main engine of the economy, and using plugins that facilitate this is useful.

It really was just ripping off the Witchery textures and models and adding the gimmicks, Im not modder but most of the circle magic were fairly simple, just some chalk particles and popping the result. The brewing seemed fairly easy as well. The hardest thing seemed to be the throwable potions like the brew of vines or the brew of bats.

Why the fuck do I only ever seem to generate the most basic biome possible in Windows 10 edition? My friend and I started a new world maybe 20 times and ended up in the same exact "hills with oak trees" biome. Thats a shame, most keyboards on flans vehicles or Mchelis are just for decoration but I assume you can do good with only the basic movement keys.

Give me a mod or modpack to turn the game into Factorio

Because all I've played so far is boring magic blocks that do everything for you for 0 effort and there's zero reason to even bother with any of it: Resource scarcity isn't a thing, no automation is actually ever needed, extracting resources is a pain in the ass, you can get anything you want in a day without even trying, etc. It just bores me to tears and makes me want to go play Factorio instead.

IC2 is the closest thing but it's still miles away, I hear gregtech is better but I wonder if it even comes close, and it's still missing a lot of stuff

It's a shame. With techguns at least you could overlook the models being oriented strangely, and like, get a wireless presentation clicker and hold it between your teeth or something like if steven hawking went postal.

Yeah that mod had some weird rendering issues, probably has to do with how meme versions handle items.
If you want to try one last thing, Star Wars mod has some nice guns as well and some vehicles that work the same way as a horse.

I'm not talking about "my" machine (it runs the modpack just fine), but on the tendency to include everything and the kitchen sink for largely redundant stuff. One of the disadvantages is performance problems, you're basically locking out potential players before they even try your pack. (And yes, lots of people have stuff like 4GB RAM).

And even if you consider redundant features, the modpack is shit. They might not affect performance, but why would you put transport pipes, item conductors and itemducts on the same pack? Stick to one and minetweak the others out.

Another thing bugging me is the current (post-1.2.5) status of the modding scene. Augmentations and tiered upgrades were a novelty, but now they're everywhere. It's rather... boring, they basically encourage you to repeat the core gameplay loop to unlock the exactly same thing you already had, but faster - cookie clicker gameplay is something for simple browser games, not for a voxel engine.

RF and Tesla have been replaced by a built-in Forge solution. The Forge version is essentially just RF except in the form of a Capability, which was the main benefit of Tesla. There's not really a reason to use anything other than FE these days unless you're pointlessly stubborn (see: CoFH). Everything seems to be internally compatible with FE though so there's not really a practical issue to the player no matter what.

But there's still a part of me that groans whenever I see a pump that doesn't actually pump water to avoid block updates, or a machine that ticks at extremely long intervals instead of gradually filling up in an intuitive fashion. Yes - "if it makes no difference for the end user". CoFH using RF instead of FE/FU for their own machines while still keeping complete interoperability is not a difference to the end user. The first example (pump not actually pumping water) is, in my opinion, very reasonable for infinite liquids - why would you cause a block update just to make the block respawn itself? It makes no difference for the end user aside from the block of water not blinking. As for the latter example, there's ways to balance ticking intervals and user experience as to only tick, say, every few ticks, but fake the filling-up animation on the client.

There are better examples to prove your argument (which I generally agree with!), though. For instance, compare the BuildCraft Quarry, with its animation and movement methods, to miners from many other, more "modern" mods. In the latter case, the user experience - the satisfaction of creating massive holes in the world, as well as the balancing aspect of destroying an area layer-by-layer which makes more valuable ores take more time to get to - has been sacrificed in the name of performance. Now, there's probably things the BuildCraft Quarry should have done to reduce its performance impact - it has had a long-standing problem with fluid block updates - but, as I haven't figured out a good way to do so (one decent suggestion was to allow combining a Quarry with a Pump), it never happened.

Also, keep in mind that another mod's machine looking efficient doesn't mean the code actually is. Always measure.

I just want a big mod pack that covers a lot of stuff, with mods that mesh together nicely.

The problem is that I've been out of the loop for so long, I started modding probably in like 2011 with stuff like Mo' Creatures and The Aether, and a while after that i played on a Tekkit server with some friends.

That's literally all the experience i have.

1.7.10 seems like a comfy version since it has a lot of mods and all the vanilla updates after that seem worthless anyways.

I would build one myself, but I don't know anything about current mods, which ones are good and how to balance and which ones match well.

I basically just want a Minecraft with more content, like all the technological stuff, more variety, plants, trees, new tools etc. Maybe some new mobs or some neat dungeons. I remember i really liked The Aether.

The Thaumcraft and other magic mods seem pretty neat too.

Well, if you want some basic recommendations. Here are some mods I think are "essential":

Biomes O' Plenty - Adds a shitton of new biomes to explore with really interesting stuff. Basically just makes exploring the world a lot more fun, especially the Nether which now has biomes itself.

Buildcraft - If you want to do any techie shit, this mod adds some of the most basic stuff to support it. Even if you want to get better/more advanced tech mods like Mekanism, IC2, etc you should get this anyway.

Carpenter's Blocks - Did you ever wish you could build slopes in Minecraft? Or make certain blocks look like other blocks cosmetically, or make garage doors, or all kinds of other decorative shit? Now you can.

Chisel - Adds a tool that lets you decorate blocks with alternate textures. Also adds a few cool aesthetic blocks of its own.

Natura - Adds even more new biomes, plants, and trees, as well as a few mobs to spice up the world even more. Think of it like a mini-BOP.

Not Enough Items - Expands the inventory screen so you have a searchable list of all items/blocks in the game, their recipes, and their uses. Basically it's an automatic encyclopedia that catalogs all the shit mods add. Completely essential if you're running more than a few unfamiliar mods.

Pam's Harvestcraft - Adds a gazillion new crops to farm, utensils, and meals to make with them. Use this mod with...

Spice of Life - Makes it so eating the same food repeatedly makes it less effective. If you combine this with Pam's, it means farming and cooking are actually useful, varied, and fun, rather than just a chore or an instant life regeneration tool.

WAILA/WAWLA - "What am I looking at", these mods make it so when you mouse over something, you can see what it is, and which mod it comes from. Pretty much essential in tandem with NEI so you don't get completely lost.

I also like to use some kind of Minimap. Personally I prefer Journeymap, Xaero's is a less resource-intensive alternative.

If you want to do magic:

Thaumcraft - The best magic mod there is, in terms of how well it's developed, how well-balanced it is, how fun it can be, and how many plugins there are. You can do tons of stuff especially with plugins, from alchemy to rituals to zapping shit with wands to animating golems to channeling the warp to... (Be sure to check plugins like Thaumic Bases, Thaumic Horizons, etc)

Witchery - The other best magic mod there is. This mod is more of a traditional halloweeny-like magic mod where you can do witch stuff, make potions, voodoo dolls, be a vampire, hunt werewolves, etc.

Blood Magic - Have you ever wanted to cut yourself so hard, you gain magic powers? This mod is better than it sounds. It's a magic system where everything runs on the life essence of living beings which you sacrifice. (or if you have mystcraft, you can try and pump pure life essence from mystic pools in the far beyond...) You can do some interesting stuff with this, worth a look.

Botania - Plant magic. If you're a filthy elf you might like it.

A word of note about magic mods: Generally speaking, the more magic mods you add, the more shit will become redundant. You might be best off adding only one or two and just focusing on one at a time.

If you want some "neat dungeons", Roguelike Dungeons adds some pretty large and difficult dungeons to the game. The Aether works on 1.7.10 iirc so you can install that if you remember liking it. Twilight Forest is another mod that adds some new biomes and mobs as well as a whole new dimension, which you might like.

As for misc shit, I also recommend Bibliocraft (top comfy decor+books mod), Forestry + Binnies (alcohol production and apiculture and shit), OpenBlocks (bunch of useful stuff), Extrautilities (more useful stuff, some of it might be too useful to be balanced though so might wish to disable some stuff in configs)

Some mods are going to do some of the same things. And that's fine. If you really wanted to trim every single redundant thing out you could, but it's simpler to just ignore stuff and stick to one thing that works with everything else. For example, I run a bunch of different tech mods that all add different types of cables. But Mekanism cables work with everything anyway so I just run all my wires using those. In theory I could go into other mods and edit recipes and shit to "combine" all the different cables but there's no point.

This happens ALL the time but the good news is, Forge (minecraft modding platform) has this thing called an Ore Dictionary that basically means, no matter which mod's copper you use (for example), it works with every other mod's recipes that call for copper. Again, in theory you could cut out all the other duplicate ores so only one of each remains... But it would take some time and expertise and might not be worth bothering with.

Someone here suggested the Quintessential Creatures mod. I really liked it, the mobs were cute and appropriately styled for Minecraft. But after I started a playthrough I kept noticing marauding trolls in the nearby village, depopulating it in spite of the armed guards and well-lit streets. It's a pretty neat mod, aiming to head to the roots of Thaumaturgy, metaphorically and literally. There are a bunch of neat plants you can make, reverting blocks to their base counterpart and vice versa, and a revolver with several "custom" enchants. You can also make a few new blocks like a campfire, node manipulator, exp foci at a cost, etc. Pretty comfy imo.

I don't think I ever shilled higher versions for people playing 1.7. Maybe a few times back in the day, but I do honor 1.7's quality far above anything put out in recent times. I wish I could say that 1.9+ versions were worth it, and if I mod anything I try and work towards that direction, but 1.7 is still decidedly better. I just personally moved on from it because you can only replay TC4 so many times.

And I'd never purport my mods over TC and Witchery, they're the two kings of magic mods and I wish I had an ounce as much quality in my own projects. I did shill my mods a bit indirectly back when 1.11 was newer, but honestly I don't regret trying to push my stuff -- more importantly alongside stuff like Astral Sorcery and Rustic -- in 1.11 over the MAWPC bullshit 1.10 grew into. Wasn't trying to compete with old classics, just wished more people gave 1.11 a try since 1.10 was IMO a mess.

Not really. All recipes are changed in that modpacks, including Gregs.
So you could say that GregTech has been "Gregified" itself.
You're better off playing InfiTech2 first and getting to know more normal GregTech first, and then come back to GTNH

Hey guys, not trying to shill here, but looking for a couple good peeps for doin some building on a server for the Crafting Dead modpack on Technic Launcher. Alpha phase, working on worldbuilding mainly.
For anyone who doesn't know, Crafting Dead is a post-apocalypse zombie mod with custom firearms and a randomized looting system. There is also a base-building system present, however the system is less than desirable and instead, safe zones will be created. As of right now, we don't have plans for post-launch yet as to the focus on either PVP or PVE. That is TBD.
We intend to do a test of creative abilities. You will be given access to creative and given as much time as needed to give us one unique and acceptable building or three. Interiors are not necessary, but are an added bonus. If all goes well, you may be given access to world edit and allowed to pretty much work on what you want to, so long as it fits with the theme.

Curse has been reigning over modded Minecraft for three years now via CurseForge. They've controlled most mod distribution throughout the "golden age" of 1.7.10. The world has not fallen apart. I don't think it will, as very few modders actually object to being distributed outside of Curse as long as it's still respectful - many still put up their mods' source code on GitHub, builds on Jenkins, or even mirror their mods elsewhere. I don't think they're going to take your mods away, though I do think they might clamp down on CMPDL/curseDownloader if too many people start using them instead of their own launchers.

Check out Binnie's Mods. It's an extension of Forestry that expands on bee and tree breeding. You get something like 30 new types of wood but you can also combine any 2 plank types from vanilla, Forestry or BM to make customized wood blocks. You can get mixed fences and gates too. It also expands on stained glass in the same way.

I guess I'll share the basic idea of my modpack here, in the hopes someone can point out bullshit or just give ideas. The progression I'm planning is:

Spawn, gather the first resources, build a base. Mostly manual farming. "Lots" of resources necessary for automation are gone; if you want them, you'll need to go to other dimensions, so it'll play vanilla-like on the beginning.

>2. The Plane of Earth
You need to find a premade portal to access this plane, using some sort of compass. Bedrock at both sides; ideally inhabited by small and weak enemies that zerg rush you, plus the threat of suffocation to help with the feeling of being "trapped". Plenty rare ores for your first automation steps, plus resources to access the planes of Water and Fire.

>3 or 4. The Plane of Water

It's basically a huge ocean with some icebergs, frozen surface and underwater structures. Underwater breathing is required so you can swim, get loot and fight krakkens efficiently. Building here is possible but mildly annoying. But hey, now you can make some mob farms.

A reworked Nether where you actually NEED fire resistance to do anything serious. Fire, lava and brimstone everywhere. Flight is unlocked here.

>5. The Plane of Air

You need resources from Fire and Water to access this plane, plus flight. It'll kinda resemble The End and the Aether, in the sense it's a bunch of [smaller] islands with enemies trying to drop you off. Unlocks long-distance technology like tesseracts, although teleport proper is only after you got to the Astral Plane.

>6. The Astral Plane

Reworked The End; requires items from all four planes. Since Ordo nodes only spawn here, it unlocks most Thaumcraft (the original TC4 tech tree + minigame won't be present).

If you want more food then the nip mods (Bamboo, Apple Milk Tea, Maple Tree) are better than that. And you dont need to add a mod to force you to eat varied if you are already willing to do so.

A system that does that is actually in vanilla now, not sure what version it got added.
However since TFC is realism up the ass I'm sure if it's not on 1.7.10, it probably adds its own.

The funny thing is I built the first one specifically to see what all the marble pillars in Chisel look like. Each of the columns use different versions. I couldn't just lay them all out on the ground like a normal person. Probably just my boredom desperate to find something to do and make it take as long as possible. Minecraft kinda does that to me.

Its a terrain gen mod, if what you want is some pretty terrain then its really great. Climate Control complements it and lets you customize it even more. But probably its best for you to download a custom world gen from planetminecraft.

Yup. Eventually I'll remove and maybe add lots more mods to the pack; I posted this here so people could point out obviously retarded shit, like you did.

Some features of included mods might be absent though if this encourages the player to diversify the activities. (Also redundant shit like ExU pipes and 3/5 of TDyn ducts). Maybe even vanilla features. I want everything to fall in place as part of a larger thing.
