Read the General problems FAQ before asking questions. If you still need help, post your specs (Speccy screenshot), operating system, emulator version number and details of what's wrong.

Please contribute to the wiki if you discover any inaccuracies or have relevant information to append.

READ THE WIKI BEFORE ASKING QUESTIONS LIKE:
>Where do I get games
OR
>Where do I get Nintendo games
OR
>Where do I get PS3 games
OR
>Where do I get 3DS games
OR
>Where do I get games

>What is the best emulator for...

Check out the wiki for the emulator you're using if you run into trouble, there may be a solution there too, often including recommendations for optimal game settings.

Remember to submit bug reports or shit won't get fixed.

DeSmuME is a mature emulator that will play most games you want just fine. It has a dynarec(to run on potatoes) and supports raising the resolution of the games. Some games don't render properly due to poor design decisions when the emulator was in its infancy.

melonDS is focusing on accuracy and is currently very slow. It is not user friendly and still has a lot of compatibility issues.

I noticed an issue with the game Final Fantasy 8 when using Retroarch Mednafen emulator. After the opening sequence, there is a transition from the normal models to FMV scene (when Squall and Quistis exit the infirmary if you guys are familiar with the game). Squall and Quistis models can be seen through the walls as the transition occurs (does not occur in actual PlayStation, I tested). Is this normal for this emulator or is it the result of improper configuration?
In other words, the issue is that the field models can be seen through the walls when the FMV begins.

Breath of fire 2 has arguably one of the worst localizations in video game history. As the game goes on, the translation descends further and further into total gibberish.

That's on top of the fact that the game's balance is fundamentally broken. Enemies give far too little XP and deal far too much damage. Grinding is absolutely essential, yet basically impossible. Either enemies are giving you 1 XP point each, or they're one shotting you.

Trust me, just stay away from it. Play the first, 3rd and 4th ones.

Sounds like you never heard of CEN64. Only problem with that is, the main dev has very little free time and hardly anyone contributes.

The problem is that HLE is where most of the attention goes, because that's what most users seem to want. I mean they paid like 800$ for HLE Rogue Squadron, even though it's buggier and doesn't even support Per-Pixel-Lighting. So the only point to using it is for toaster support, which many of them never cared about in the first place.

I now see why people like byuu have no interest in doing N64 emulation. I initially thought he was silly, but now I get it.. Lots of end users in the scene are just dumb.

>Are plugins holding the N64 emulation back?
To some extent, plugins do hold it back a little, but that aint the main issue.
>>
>>186694194
>Lots of end users in the scene are just dumb

Maybe that's because there's not much to care about, if CEN64 showed some progress I'm sure people would follow it more but it's barely even working as of yet, the PSX scene used to be 100% focused on HLE aswell for a lot of years but then Mednafen came and that changed everything.

I could say the same for HLE, but look how things turned out. People are so stupid that they use HLE audio when using shunyuan's audio plugin..

>if CEN64 showed some progress I'm sure people would follow it more but it's barely even working as of yet
There has been a fair amount of progress. CEN64 runs some homebrew that other emulators can't.

>the PSX scene used to be 100% focused on HLE aswell for a lot of years but then Mednafen came and that changed everything.
well PS1 is easier to emulate and requires less resources, so they would be more likely to appreciate accuracy. Recaptcha wouldn't be able to pull off the same thing for N64. LLE with software rendering isn't even full speed when using an RSP and CPU dynarec. There's absolutely no way she will be able to pull off full speed with interpreters.

I think the main reason people don't appreciate CEN64 is because of the performance. People don't even appreciate Angrylion's RDP, despite claiming to care for accuracy. They really are just stupid.

Nintendo was just stupid and tried to weed out the "weak" aka 3rd party developers, by not handing them the documentation they needed. They ultimately paid the price and lost to PS1.

PCSX2 i managed to play through Tales of the Abyss, All of the .hack games, Makai Kingdom, Disgaea, Phantom Brave, Rogue Galaxy, Suikoden, Star Ocean, Dark Cloud. They all had such mild glitches i wasn't even bothered when i played through them.

Nes, Snes, Sega master system/genesis, Playstation, Gamecube, Wii even fuckin PSP all have decent enough performance and the games play good enough from start to finish.

It took until recently to get a N64 emulator that could emulate the snap feature in Pokemon snap. Even the most popular games on the console have issues and the unknown titles are abysmal to say the least.

I've finished a game on every emulator I've used even the dreamcast emulator but N64 bugs out in pretty much everything. I bet even the Virtual Boy emulator is better than that shit.

Man dreamcast emulation is bad from what I hear. Demul's accurate but too slow. What n64 games are you playing?

>It took until recently to get a N64 emulator that could emulate the snap feature in Pokemon snap.
Not really. Angrylion's worked for years. GLideN64 is still missing the red dot too, so I don't even consider that fixed, for HLE.

>Well i mean if you consider the rest of the emulators the N64 is garbage.
I disagree. I tried getting into PS1 emulation and was pretty disappointed. The only reason it's believed to be better shape is because PS1 requires less resources to emulate.

Angrylion already saved N64 emulation years ago. Hardly anyone appreciates it because they can't play some of the heavy-duty games with it at full speed. Also some people are obsessed with being able to do higher resolution, so they act like it's useless.

If you're only concerned about hi-res, then yea N64 emulation's a joke. But if you care more about accuracy, then it's not too bad. They need to fix audio though. That's admittedly pretty bad.

People need to support the right devs, if they want real change.
