Should I bother playing the arena? I just spent 3 hours and got 55 gold for a 5 win run, which means a net gain of 5 gold for 3 hours of play. Wouldn't it be better to just play normal matches since you'd get more gold in that time?

How is arena such a joke?
It's arguably the only skill based aspect of HS right now but as soon you get past 4 wins you start playing against ridiculous RNGfest mages with all their discovery mechanics and card generation.
If any other class had these kind of things they'd be nerfed into the ground but mage gets away with it, why?

The strawman is implying that you need 7+ wins average for arena to be worth it. That is wrong.

If you average 7+ wins, you're going infinite, as in, you're getting a pack while earning your entry fee back with your runs. Averaging 3 wins means you get about 50 gold and a pack, so essentially the same as simply buying a pack, while anything between 3 and 7 gives you a better deal than simply buying packs.

Reading only half my post was about a lot of people not appearing in the leaderboards despite averaging higher than 7 wins, because they don't play arena enough. I probably play more arena than 90% of the people in these threads, and I don't do 30 runs a month.

Those stats are based on 6k games for the rank 1-5 stats. The decks vary somewhat based on the rank. Mages were more common at worse ranks, and water rogues were more common at better ranks.

Generally the more players a deck has the better it is (especially at legend and good ranks where playing the more difficult decks isn't really an issue), but how good a deck is really depends on the meta itself too. If one deck rises, another one will rise shortly to counter it, etc.

Also, no one played freeze mage in msog meta.

I actually think Water Rogue was harder to play than Miracoli, but it was absolutely a top tier deck in the right hands. I think the last month two of the four main regions had a water/aggro rogue finish rank 1. As you can see it wasn't the most popular deck, but it was strong. Silent Knight and Shadow Sensei were good memes.

Theres like 6 secrets in standard atm (bear trap, cat trick, snipe, misdirection, freezing, snake and explosive)

So at most, given absolutely perfect RNG wherein putricide doesn't generate any of the secrets you can have in hand, you can generate 3 secrets out of him. Given that, you should consider popping a 2 mana secret out of him (bearing in mind that hunter secrets are worth slightly more than their cost, averaging around 3.5 mana) you can consider that getting a lot of tempo out of him.

E.g. You have 2 secrets, cloaked huntress and putricide in hand t3. In a lot of situations it'd be worth playing huntress and a single secret to protect her, then the second secret with putricide t4.

You miss out on a potential secret but protect your board and combo better. And you can get screwed completely if you play huntress on 3, then putricide and a secret t4 and it generates your 2nd secret, preventing you from playing it

With all these low attack minions and frozen champions Cabal Shadowpriest is sure to become meta again.

Getting Rag this week is a pretty much asking to lose slowly, Nef generates so many cards it's not even fun AND can fill the board several times which fucks with Rags hero power while rag is stuck with golemagg and molten giants which suck.

There isn't any logic. They overvalue new mechanics half the time (Lifesteal is technically new since it's a new keyword) and then just print whatever they like the most that they came up with after brainstorming for about 2 nights and a day.

If you're playing blood queen, you probably better be playing it with discard. It's not hard to imagine having a 6/6 or better blood queen in which case it's a pretty decent minion, certainly better in a vacuum than a 2/7 taunt/freeze.

The better question is whether or not discard is worth running, which so far is fuck no.
