Mostly because of the size of its community relative to those fighters and how easy it is to pick up and develop an opinion for. You have to get though a steep learning curve before you can really say you like playing Guilty Gear, SFV has a much lower barrier to entry.

if you block a high in flamingo or in his right foot stance, it's probably very plus, so randomly ducking or twitch ducking (just tapping down-back to quickly crouch) is really useful to make those highs whiff and give you an opening to retaliate or make space. you can also play it a bit safer and buffer down jab or low parry in places where you feel like you want to duck to play it safe or cover a low option.

Completing all the no-brainer single player content will definitely nab you at least 2 or 3 characters, and remember that you get extra single player content from every new character, so they earn you back a portion of their cost. In all honesty though, buying every character is kind of foolish. It's best in this game to just find one or two characters that you really click with, both in terms of gameplay and visuals/aesthetics/personality etc and stick with them. All of the season 1 character have at least one Fight in story mode where you can try them out, and there's a lot of content out right now on how Akuma, Kolin, Ed, and Abigail play.

It's largely because a lot of the people that picked up guilty gear didn't pick it up because they enjoy it or because it looked fun even. They picked it up because it was the "patrician" fighting game. The one that would make their weeb friends think their dick is big for playing. It's no more technical than blazblue but guilty gear basically has the opposite of the connotations that smash has in the fgc. At this rate it won't be long before too many normies pick it up and it becomes the undertale of fighting games.

It's a shame its actually not a good way to end combos with, since it doesn't give you enough time for a charge.

The only use I've found with it is a dumb mixup where you go 6C > stomp. Its a pretty fast high to low mixup that leaves you like -2.
