the game becomes a lot more game-y when everyone knows literally everything off hand. restricting the accumulation of knowledge to strictly in game feats encourages the spreading of knowledge from peer to peer and facilitates roleplay.

the bad thing is you can't stop people recording information in cheat sheets and passing them off to their meta-friends. I know that Lifeweb has an elitist group that has already made their own private wiki, and they use this information to lord over others and purposefully misdirect new players.
