Squall's BSB2 ain't shit compared to a bunch of EnElement BSBs abusing Cloud's USB. It's not a big deal to Squall because he doesn't get a ton out of abusing it, but he still does more damage spamming his BSB2 with it than he does with normally with his Junction stuff.
Squall's BSB2 has pretty much the best DPS among BSBs normally, but Cloud made that meaningless outside dungeons that lock your RW.

The SB is 6.64 potency, fully junctioned Roar is 8.75.
Factoring in infuse it becomes 11.95 and 13.125.
I guess there is not much of a difference, but unless Full Throttle, building junction usually kills the boss from half health with me having used only 1 SB bar. Not to mention how glorious it looks when he double casts a fully junctioned and clouded Löwen Roar.

I've made it through the Ancients' Maze in FF3 and now I'm slowly progressing through the Crystal Tower. It's slow but steady progress. I'm being cautious about it and occasionally backtracking back to my airship to rest, save, and resupply on items. I'm assuming from my FF14 experience that the World of Darkness comes after the Crystal Tower. I'm also assuming that there will be another difficulty spike like there was going from Maze to Tower.

If you're backtracking now, you'll probably not be able to beat the Crystal Tower and beyond. There's no save points that I remember, and pretty much all the enemies inside the Crystal Tower are strong bosses you've fought before (and stronger stuff further in) with no rest points and a point of no return so you have to be sure you can handle it once you get to that point.

At least that's how I remember it in the NES version, I played the 3D remake once, but don't remember much of it.

That's an over-exaggeration. The only thing WoL does that's not comparable to anyone else (for now) is AoE guard and that's only extremely relevant for things like Tumult.

What really makes WoL such a great unit is that he's a great tank that also does other things (in particular, breaks). But you can build a team around other tanks to work around this, it's just far tighter.

Breakdowns are going to have way more longevity, but if you're having trouble honing them early normal breaks are fine. But they are at their most useful when stacking, and so you'd need something like Full Break anyway. Once you can R2 the offensive breakdowns, it's usually better to go with those instead. If you're having trouble with gil in the early going, you might want to check to see if orb exchange to greater is going to hurt you, and if it does stick with the breaks.

The problem with Type-0 is that we aren't having another event with it for quite a long while. So the synergy would be pretty useless. The soul breaks themselves aren't bad, but usefulness-wise you're probably better off pulling on another banner. After looking at the next couple of banners, there are some possibilities. VIII banner 1 has some good physical damage relics, although Squall's USB is kind of weird but his BSB2 is excellent. Banner 2 has a lot of magic relics, but you might not be able to build a team that can take advantage of that yet. The VII banners after that are kind of strange, too. Without going into detail, while there is some really good stuff there are others which seem either hard to use or absolute garbage. So if you're looking to pull soon, VIII-1 looks better to me unless you are looking for support or hastega/medica relics.

One other idea: a little over a month from now, we have the FFV banners, which has some pretty top tier relics. If you manage to draw Bartz's USB and LM he has some ridiculous stuff he can do with spellblades. Faris USB2 is on the same banner, and is also a really good debuff + imperil wind.

Curaja is usually the most useful. Curaise is a good backup, but tops out at 10 uses and heals less. Ultra cure is very useful situationally, but has a slower casting time than curaja and so can cause problems in fights where you badly need healing fast. It can also be hard to hone to a high level, although there isn't much that major white orbs can do otherwise.

Minfilia has a support BSB (which he has) that does holy damage (on a sword that boosts holy damage). It just doesn't have a Breaking entry, but she can use Fullbreak anyway. He also has her 50% Attack though so probably pretty locked on SB use already. Biggest issue I see is no physical 5th and he'd have to RW both Haste and Wall.

Dude, I started this game with Exdeath. I've been playing for 3 or so weeks and I have many of the best units in the game. I find that if you're aiming for a specific unit you're going to have a rough time but if you just want an amazing team, you'll get one fairly easily. I'd just play the game if I were you.

Ranged stuff kind of gimp your damage sometimes, so it's usually better to rely on skills that are ranged rather than trying to find SBs with ranged attributes.

Oh, and I don't know why I didn't mention this, but unless I am seeing things wrong you have Cloud's USB. You could always roll for the other pieces of his combo on the Dirge event. Banner 2 has his BSB2 and LM, along with Zack's wind chain + crit damage increase + 50% attack boost. That combination can wipe pretty much every boss in the game since it's so ridiculous.

Yeah, go for it. It's sort of a pain to build 2 bars on Cloud, but having at least two pieces of the combo means you can RW one of the others. The LM on the banner could help a lot too, since Cloud's BSB commands are wind and it could get rid of the charge time.

Zidane and Faris also have wind imperil options, so picking one of their imperils up could help. I dunno when Zidane is available again, but depending on how much mythril you have left Faris USB2 is on the FFV banner 1 sometime at the end of August. That also includes a triple stat debuff that stacks with about anything so far. Her BSB is on banner 2, which is an older SB but has a full break activation with atk and mag breakdown commands.

10man missions doesn't mean 10 units. They usually have a physical part of the fight and a magical one, but otherwise you want to keep your supports the same. So at best you're adding on two more DWs, and at worst you're adding on nothing.
Not as many units need it as you think, especially for vanilla DW instead of genji glove. I have 2 GG and 3 DW, and I haven't used any of the DWs in months.

Breaks are for raids mostly. Delita is a raid hastener, and the best one in the biz.
