FINAL FANTASY 2!

On the last episode, H and friends went to recruit the Dragoons and Wyverns for an upcoming attack on the Emperor to reclaim the land. And they're dead. They're all fucking dead. I wish I could've killed them myself. There's a Dragoon out there named Ricard and we dropped a Wyvern egg in a spring. So that's something, I guess.

Oh and the princess was a fake. H was about to get it on with a monster girl before Leila ruined everything. The real princess is being held far in the east to be won in a tournament. So that's where we're going. And I don't fucking care anymore.

The summon animation isn't enough to count, the esper needs to actually finish the attack, you want to summon the esper first. The esper attack can still hit after all the HP was depleted, overkill still counts. If you're certain it didn't land correctly, you can just restart the game and you'll end up at the beginning of that turn to try again.

Overkill damage works, but only if the damage actually comes out. If the summon animation (the cinematic one) does not go off (because you killed it before its summon animation goes off) then it won't do any damage.

You have to time it so that the boss is killed in between the summon animation and the time the summon actually does its damage. Which is why you want someone with a large after-summon between the summon and the damage such as Diabolos.

Positive it works, my strategy is to summon the esper, Fryevia chain him to death, and basic attack with my other party members to give the esper attack enough time to actually land. Your problem is most likely that you killed him too quickly so even though the summon animation played the attack never actually landed.

Frankly, the only thing nostalgic about the experience is the music (which I feel is the only reason to play the game). The sprites that aren't ripped directly from the SNES games are ugly as sin and don't look anything like the kind of graphics that were designed to look good for ANY period of gaming, instead it's that indescribable pixel barf "retro, but not really" look that you see in indie games that have no sense of aesthetic. And I find no appeal in simply playing a character when all they are is a lego block sprite, a Super Mario Bros. Z animation, and two generic ability slots.
