Well, to be fair it's got F-15 wingtips, a M61 gun (which actually wouldn't cause a bulge on the back of the Flanker), straight tail tips, a single frame canopy and an IRST placed bellow the radome.
It's more about making an americanized Flanker than it is about making a truly realistic depiction of an export Flanker. But I'll drop the CFT.
F-16 style CFT never

Here's the WIP for the modernized F-105. If the OR is around, I'd like to hear his thoughts on the design before I proceed.
I'll probably copy and paste an AIM-9 drawing instead of drawing them all, though.
I will be redrawing the F-33 from scratch, I'm not confident on how this angle came out.
I'm nearly done with the Super Radical, btw.

I was looking at an F-22 and an F-15 for reference. It shouldn't be an F-35.
I didn't touch the side intakes, other than making them blend into the chines, and I kept he single engine configuration to stray as close as possible from the original F-105

Well I'm not sure what I can tell you. This thing is old as hell, but I just used a ton of cloud brushes and gave everything an orange tint. I think the sun is about three or four layers, with blur on some for the glow and all.

Put quite dark shadows on everything that isn't facing the sun and give the edges some hard yellow lines for the reflections/play around with glow on those. I think the yellow edges are a pretty important part of making it look right.

I'd put the sun and horizon just below the SR71 in your picture, somewhere along the middle or towards the front so that it isn't obscured. Probably wouldn't mess with the colours on the plane too much since pretty much all of it would be in shadow, so just make that darker except for the edges.

Pretty generic but that's all I got.

That's some awe inspiring stuff right there. I'll have to take notes.
>>
>>183583106
It's the ending scene from Dark Blue World, kinda.

That said, I only ever really used black with the opacity down to shade, which I don't think is the best way to do it.

Just using transparent black in "Add" or "Substract" mode can have a good result, but for the best result you have to lower both the brightness and choose a duller shade on the colour square to get a good shadow. Making it slightly colder also works wonders.

Sounds about right. I just usually do flats these days though because it's quicker, or just lineart without colour. Stuff like this is also fun though, I'll have to try it again at some point, but I'll also have to try and add more detail to my lineart again, I feel like I've lost quite a bit of it over the years.

F105poster here. Sorry for the late reply, I was in a gnarly wreck last night. Got broadsided by an Impala. 105MKII is looking pretty good so far. I wasn't expecting the twin rudder, but that would be a more modern feature. Proceed kind sir.

Anyway, I was drawing other stuff (still can't figure how to dress people in my near-future setting), but I'll get back to it asap. I was going to use a single rudder, but I remembered how they are murder when it comes to RCS, unless the stabilizers are angled like the F-4's. But that might look retro instead of modern, you call.

>>183601201
EX is the way to go, it's the upgrade. I think the only things missing from the old SV thing is that you can't select two different weapons, and they didn't add a cockpit mode for some odd reason.

That said it is a PS4 port, but I think the mouse controls and all are intact. I checked it just now and the old game is pretty much just mouse for pitch and yaw, roll with a and d, thrust is w and s and space switches to hover mode.

Pretty much just a descent like arena shooter with plane controls.

What are the odds of surviving an eject?
>>
>>183613776
The official USAF success rate is 94.4% in envelope, and 89.9% including out of envelope ejections.
>>
>>183614135
well gee, I don't see why Yellow 4 didn't just eject, either she loved her plane THAT much or she died when the missile hit, her plane fell for quite a while
>>
>>183614608
its possible the explosion on the run way damaged the ejection function along with the engine of her aircraft
>>
>>183614709
I was about to say, 13 mentions her plane was in disrepair, so it wouldn't surprise me if the ejection seat was damaged and she never bothered to repair it.
>>
>>183614887
pretty sure the explosion that damaged her aircraft was right before they sortied for Stonehenge, so i doubt she had the time to
>>
>>183614608
Of 189 ejections occurring below 450 KEAS, 24 (12-percent) resulted in a major or fatal injury. A major injury is considered broken limbs, except fingers and toes, internal injuries, and severe burns. There were 24 major and fatal injuries that occurred below 450 KEAS: 4 due to windblast, 1 due to ejection shock, 9 due to parachute landing fall, 6 due to ground impact (impacting the ground or other object during the ejection phase), and 4 being caused by items such as burns and hypothermia. All of the ejections that occurred above 450 KEAS since 1995 resulted in a major or fatal injury. Data show several injuries are occurring during the parachute‑landing phase and not during the initial ejection or windblast phase of the ejection.

Could be that she got killed or otherwise incapacitated before she had the chance to eject. I don't remember her talking or doing anything. Just 13 asking if anyone saw her hit the silk.

Well, I didn't expect to see somebody like him in my entire life.
But back on topic, since I just finished all routes on AC3 I was thinking of making a better version of the routes guide, since this one is plain minimalistic. That and perhaps a guide for emulating PSX games with Mednafen (possibly with Libretro/Vulkan libraries for better rendering) since it could turn away people from using it due to it having no GUI. I don't promise on actually delivering anything though, it all depends on my laziness.

Anyone else have a request? Honestly I prefer working on original designs or redesigns of existing airframes (or mecha musumes ) over just recolouring.
Not that there is anything wrong with recolouring, but I enjoy twisting existing materials into new shapes.

And here is my americanized Su-33, the "Freedom Flanker", the F-33 Derbnik, in VF-111 colours.
Following the hawk-based naming theme US aircraft have going on, I decided to formally nickname it the "Derbnik", the russian name for the Merlin, colloquially known as the "pigeon hawk" in the US.
How does it look, buddies?

With this I've drawn both American and European Flankers, as well as the WW2-style one. I'm not sure of what new sort of Flanker I could draw now.
Applying FSW to a Flanker ended up producing the Su-47, the S-54 through S-56 are the single engine ones, F-117 stealth shape would be a question of getting a screenshot of the Su-27 in hangar from one of the PSX games, rendered in wireframe mode... Right now I don't have any ideas.
Trying to make a better (by my metric) looking Super Sylph doesn't appeal much to me at this time.

Playing AC so much you almost forget that dogfighting is never the preferred way to take out enemies. Not because I would like to sell them but because its simply nice to have that art, manual and everything. Like a time capsule in a way. That goes for PS2-era games too imo. PS1 cases are also rather special so they're valuable too.

Post-online consoles like the PS3 and Xbox360 can fuck off though. Their games are not valuable in my eyes!

>>183703584
Well she gives you Ruhm, which makes killing Maximilian so damn easy.

>jets
I'm all for WW1 propellers though or proper overkill WW2 stuff.

Jets shouldn't be hard, Ragnite seems to generate a fuckton of heat, given the radiators on tanks, that shit would aid with the jet. So you just get a ragnite engine to turn the turbine and then feed the air over the radiators for the heating.

So really it'd be a weird motorjet thing.
>>
>>183704024
You only get the Ruhm after you do the DLC, iirc. I only did that after my first playthrough, so the fight was enjoyably hard.

tbqh, I was wondering where to stick the radiators on a Flanker. Take a wild guess as to what my planefu is.
The only reason I wasn't wondering about props is because it feels much more obvious to me, given that most prop planes have obvious exhausts.

Well you can kinda get him easily with Rosie or your shock trooper of choice and the attack boost order too, Ruhm just makes it easier because it has more shots and that absurd accuracy.

>radiators
I'd honestly forgo the exhausts on the props for the most part and actually stick the ragnite radiators where the regular rads are on those planes. on the prop above for example that'd be around the front spinner and in the wing roots.

I still have to make that mockup for a flying based VC at some point.

>rads on jets
I'd just put them around the nozzles, the whole circle. Like combustion chambers sort of, at least if you want to use them to help with the jet like I suggested above. Not like picrelated.
>>
>>183701915
Please Dorn, that'd be beautiful.
>>
>>183705192
What exactly is the combustion in jet engines for exactly? It's not reaction mass like in a spacecraft, as far as I can tell, given that the reaction mass of a jet is the input air when ejected as exhaust.
Is it just to (explosively) accelerate the airflow through the engine and keep the electrical systems running?
>>
>>183707409
In the backlog. Frankly I prefer modern aircraft to older ones (mostly jets over props) and thus modernizing older aircraft, but messing around with the Flanker (the "MiG-11B"), the YF-23 and the F-117 has shown me the oposite is also a lot of fun. I think I'll use XB-35 like rotors.
On that topic, what would the oposite of "modernizing" be? "Downgrading" is wrong, "retrograding" might jus be a neologism I happened to make right now, "demaking" is a vidya term...

To heat up the air so it expands out the back, driving the turbine, which in turn drives the compressor, which sucks in more air to combust.
>>
>>183707739
You're on the right track, but not quite all there yet. Combustion in a jet engine takes place in a very confined space in the rear of the engine, just before the turbines, exhaust assembly and nozzles. Fuel and air mix and ignite to generate a significant amount of extra gas volume, which is then directed out the back of the engines through turbines (to generate power and keep the compressors up front spinning) and nozzles (to focus the stream of exhaust into an even more forceful and thus more effective stream of air)
>>
>>183708201
So the explosive nature of the combustible isn't, strictly speaking, needed acording to that model? You could theorically make it fully electric?

Though this explanations does shoot down my idea because a "turbo ducted fan" of sorts wouldn't be able to replicate the increase in gas volume.

>>
>>183708452
You can do a lot to change the volume of gasses. You can physically compress them and allow them to naturally expand, cooling them causes them to become more dense, heating less so.
>>
>>183708452
>You could theorically make it fully electric
Possibly, albeit the temperatures in a jet are stupidly high, but stuff like the P51s radiator or the I-250 motorjet that one is a soviet napkin plane though so who knows how well that really went prove that it works to some degree.
>>
>>183708452

The expansion and contraction of gases (including liquids) is the bedrock for pretty much all 'engines'.

Flying radar. Imagine british radar in the air, able to pinpoint enemy positions even better. Imagine that on top of that it also has a device to track down hostile radar, so it could even guide attacks against enemy night fighters. There is room for this stuff, more so with a bit of creative freedom. Mostly as an awacs like command center though.

I like how the world gradually becomes more globalized. Every war before 7 barring 5 has been regionally fought. Now with Osea supposedly reaffirming the pact it struck with the north Usean nations and staking claims on the continent such as having an air base at Fort Gray's, the world's basically opened up quite a bit.

Other than drawing for buddies, the only /aceg/ related one is that one. Wars on Mars while Earth is too busy fighting off creatures along the lines of the bugs from Starship Troopers. I ended up finding Mars' political shehanigans more interesting than Earth's struggle, so Mars gets more focus.
Strictly speaking it's a combined arms-focused setting with modern weaponry, mecha and Ace Combat-style superweapons. Mecha (mostly support) and fighters get more focus due to my interest in them, though.

I'm going to be quite busy today, so it's unlikely I'll finish (I might finish the lineart, but colours aren't likely) these until tomorrow.

First up: the Yellow Squadron Wyvern. I'm not sure if to go with A or B with the yellow wing border.
Then the Galm team F-16s. Now imagine Pixy being the wide-eyed idealist and PJ being the jaded guy roasting him for his naïveté.
Finally, the WW2 Kottos. It's a three deck + bomb bay airship, with dommed radars mounted on the sides. I'd appreciate feedback on it, since I'm not too confindent on the way it looks. I mostly don't know where to stick "hihg tech" WW2 gizmos.

I haven't gotten started on the Phoenix Aigaion fleet, that one will be a big piece. Phoenix will be in an YF-22, but I need two different craft for Slash and Edge.

You mean this? It doesn't look particularly like any logo we know from AC3, for all we know this may be a version of Strangereal's United Nations. Makes sense why'd they be helping with the defense against the Arsenal Bird.

I want lots of intrigue or at least manly shit like what AC0 had. I hope I'm not hyping myself too much, especially since 5's story had the most political intrigue and 7 seems to be borrowing from that a lot. Also AWNNB logos from 0, some other stuff from 4, etc.
>>
>>183797467
It doesn't need to be retconned out of AC at all. It's a fantastic game and story.
But perhaps it'd make sense to put it farther into the future.
It's much too advanced even for AC to take place in the 2040's. It should be the 22nd or 23rd century maybe, or at least the 2080's but even then stuff like the geofront is absolutely unthinkable for probably any of these timeframes.
>>
Am I stupid or something? Where do I get the multi lock on for the XFA? Or any of the last parts? I thought I had a complete save, but apparently I don't.

>>183798249
That is my main issue.
>>
>>183798241
From the looks of it, there's the IUN - the International Union being the United Nations, and the IUPF - the International Union Peacekeeping Force which can either be the United Nations Peacekeeping Force or NATO.

That said, it doesn't have to resemble anything much from AC3 to be a predecessor to it. Keep in mind much of the dialogue in AC3 refers to UPEO as a holdover from an era long past.
>>
>>183798241
>It doesn't look particularly like any logo we know from AC3
Because it's proto-UPEO/NUN
>for all we know this may be a version of Strangereal's United Nations
In the briefing they refer to the "International Union Peacekeeping": IUP is the peacekeeping force of the IUN - UPEO is the peacekeeping force of the NUN.
Plus both IUP and UPEO are peacekeeping forces operating in Usea.
>>
>>183798735
>>183799107
Welp, makes sense. 7 probably won't focus on changing the world of Strangereal though, just the conflict itself.
>>
>>183799252
To be honest AC3 takes place exclusively on Usea, so we don't know what's going on in the rest of the world, if Neucom and General Resources have presence outside of the Usean continent, if NUN/UPEO is an Usean exclusive, etc.
>>
>>183799468
On one hand it would kind of make sense for all those things to be exclusive to Usea. It's perhaps been the continent with the most occurring and largest conflicts we've seen to date. At the same time it appears to be a continent rich in resources and opportunity. Usea itself is never really able to make use of those things however because of how much conflict it gets embroiled in on such a constant basis. Osea's probably looking to assist in the stabilization of the continent as per Ace Combat 7 since long ago they did agree to a military pact. The rest of the world is largely stable, but Usea has always been a danger to itself that others are only just now starting to address.

Granted all this is mostly because there hadn't been a "rest of the world" to speak of as Usea was the main location for three games before 5 opened up the rest of the world, but that's how I see it.

So Usea is either the Africa or Middle East of Strangereal, but in a thematic way. Literal interpretation would probably go to Sotoa.
>>
>>183797467
You need to be retconned out of this universe.
>>
>>183797467
I know it's been already retconned, but why though?
I mean it never happened either way.
>>
>>183800369
The implied rapid tech advancement once the Corporations took over. All that infrastructure should technically be impossible even within twenty years.

But then Osea and Usea built a fully operational space elevator in ten.
>>
>>183800369
Did Ridge Racer also never happened too?
>>
>>183800369
Because Strangereal, to me, is about the Belka-tier countries, not two generic megacorps lording over everything. Each country has its own unique identity, and it's part of what made the series so interesting.
Electrosphere is such a departure from the later games, and it lacks that charm the fictional countries brought to Strangereal.
If, though, the Corporations didn't dissolve all of the countries, I'd have less of a problem with Electrosphere.
I mean, can you even imagine a world without Belka?
>>
>>183801072
I don't know about that, but I do know your grammar needs work
>>
>>183801634
The corps may be USEA isolated. But yeah I know your feel. Megacorp stuff has never really appealed to me though.
Then again you could just rename them to be some countries and it would probably work somewhere. GR being rather old fashioned and Neucom being more innovative and so on. They have some personality.

Also, drawbuddies, have you done a Yellow Squadron F-14D yet?

Sounds good, but I'd rather not lenghten my backlog too much. It already has four entries, after all.

They have one in the big city we have nearby, I think it's the same. I'm not as big into helos as I am jets but it does have the same tail configuration.

Mock-up of how I plan the guide ending up looking like.
There are a couple errors here and there, stuff not aligned properly and it's still greatly WIP.
Any suggestions on stuff to add/edit?
I'm not a designer for sure and this was my first time actually trying to learn how to use Photoshop, but I'm pretty happy with how it is shaping this far.
>>
>>183813147
Right I remember that name. Those fucks show up at airshows because they are stupidly maneuverable

>>183814909
That looks pretty great tbqh. I'd look for a way to make the conditions a bit more uniform, but I don't really have a good idea for that either.
>>
>>183815181
With conditions do you mean the branching points lines or the text?
I've redone the lines for branching points various times, but I'm never really happy with the distance and their look.
As for the text I gotta agree, not the best looking, especially for the ones near the vertical lines, bit alas that's what I managed to come up with for now, I'll definitely try to find a solution.
>>
>>183814909
way too much empty space, fill it in with art of electrophere exclusive aircraft in phoenix livery.
>>
>>183814909
I'd love to record every mission and make a companion youtube guide series, but I suck at electrosphere.
>>
>>183816259
Are we talking about just the unique ones or including COFFIN versions of normal ones?
>>
>>183816729
mainly unique ones. throw in some things like ouroboros' carrier blimp and megafloat too. again, both in phoenix livery.
>>
>>183816259
I was thinking of placing the logos as part of the background, and then throw around some pics to cover space.
>>183816518
Due to the controls? I feel you, it wasn't exactly the best start for me either since the game handles nothing like the other ones, but after a while (and after getting planes that can actually turn without stalling 100% of time) you learn how to deal with it all. It's not really that hard and once you get going you'll end up liking the game.
The only thing I didn't like about the game is the restricted amount of planes to choose from, farther reduced since the planes available depend on the mission and route you're playing.
>>
>>183817467
Yeah, the controls. I beat the game on keyboard too, so configuring all the keys was ultra jank. Does electrosphere support analog sticks?
>>
>>183817654
yeah, only Air Combat doesnt i think
>>
>>183817654
>>183817815

its a pretty good song and i liked the James Bond sorta sound to it, not my favourite though
preferred Near the Border more though as it fitted the games theme of flamenco it ran with and its overall depressing sound it had to it fit the ending more

why cant more emulators let us do shit like retexturing, its fucking beautiful being able to make liveries for planes

The only other emulators with that function that I can cite off the top of my head are Dolphin (usually used by HD texture packs) and Project64 (the Tsumi to Batsu translation put it to good use).
