I've progressed significantly in my college playthrough. Scavenging the nearby dwemer ruins yielded a bountiful number of study objects, from enchanted weapons and armor to dwemer spellcasting clothes, grimoires and ancient texts. I've focused mainly on alteration, conjuration, and enchantment, and it has not failed my expectations. The only problem I've ran into is that there are various spells that i am unable to research, despite the compatibility spell research boasts. most of these spells are conjuration, specifically the conjuration of skeleton warriors, order atronachs, and hounds of varla. Same goes for a handful of alteration spells like teleportation and gravity manipulation. I hope there is a way out there to let me exploit those as well, and develop better versions of those spells.

Bringing up the Companions is interesting. They are essentially the same people before and after they are cured, the only thing they mention is that their mind is clearer and their senses are settled. Otherwise they're still the same- people. And when you see Farkas transform in Dustman's Cairn, he's still there mentally, he knows to kill the enemies and only the enemies, and then go flip the switch to free you. One could argue he still is very much a person on the inside the whole time.

Then again, there is the whole duality aspect to it. When one cures themself, the wolf spirit breaks from the soul and they have to kill it. Perhaps it's a constant battle. Like, werewolves who are always in control of their actions and transformations have full dominion over the beast spirit and thus, still people, and the ones who go feral are being utterly controlled by the beast spirit and are NOT people anymore.

It's obviously a taint or curse similar to Vampirism, but different people have different degrees of control over it. Aela is obviously a character who enjoys hunting (in human and Werewolf form), so she probably wouldn't mind if she ended up in the Hunting Grounds for eternity (I haven't done the Companions for years, but I'm sure she actually tells you this and prefers it to Sovngarde). There probably aren't many vampires who would be too happy to get tortured by Molag Bal for an eternity though. Plus the whole point of being a werewolf is to give in to your id and run wild forever, right? At least that was how I always saw it.

You could make it so Invoke has a spell, which then creates a new spell based on the next 3 hotkey presses. You'd have to reserve some hotkeys in an MCM or something like that.

hotkey 3
Script assigns new spell to left hand, and moves spell previously in left hand to right (if possible).

It'd be a whole lot of scripting though.

Did I ever say SKSE was bad programming? I use SKSE plenty, I love that it exists. I just think that it's kind of the end-all solution to most problems, whereas there's almost always a better solution that doesn't require SKSE. For one mod it might not be a ton, but over time that bloat builds up when you're running 250 mods. I'd prefer to save on that and use things like conditional effects to save on Script load.

I've used SE before, I plan on using it more in the future. But generally speaking, yes. SKSE is NOT needed for a mod like this. Apocalypse didn't need SKSE. Lost Grimoire didn't either. Hell, Elysses's mods might be poorly optimized but they don't use SKSE at all. My spell mod is a little more ambitious, but there's absolutely 0 need for SKSE here.

I modded up Oblivion recently, It was so nice to be able to edit some easy to use text files to get the settings and hud that I wanted for my extensive mod loadout instead of having to deal with mcm and redoing settings for every test character I made before finally being confident that I had everything I needed in place/set up properly and starting a playthrough in earnest.

Last I played, I couldn't find anything good for Alchemy. It either bloated my inventory with differently named powerful potions worth nothing, or made me insanely rich with very common ingredients. I just want to play a nature-oriented mage or archer, but there's little in the way of leaf magic or non-pincushion archery.

Nah, people do it a ton. Even in popular mods, if you look through them there's a lot of SKSE stuff that can be done with vanilla tools. Neither one is garbage. Even vanilla Skyrim still managed to be an extremely popular game. SSE is a good game. Vanilla is a good game.

Modded makes it a great game. And the more variety and better mods are, the better it gets.

Sure, because SKSE or not it's still a fun game. But if they come in here and ask then we'll honestly tell them that the benefits Oldrim has outweigh the engine advantages that SSE has. At least in my (and others) opinions.
