I get really angry every time I point out Sekai fucking something up and people tell me not to jump on the hate bandwagon just because everyone else is. It's like the stupid motherfuckers can't think critically. Sekai consistently takes a long time on its acquired licenses, runs Kickstarter campaigns it doesn't need to, treats its customers (and staff) poorly, censors releases and takes a long time to put out adult content patches, releases games in unfinished states (84%), fails to deliver on its Kickstarter rewards (especially physical, but they took over a year to send the Root Double OST to backers digitally), and are too incompetent to even switch over aspects of their site properly.

Of course every time I bring up any of this I'm met with claims that Sekai is good and that we wouldn't be seeing a lot of releases without them. While this is technically true, they're a total shit company and the only worse one in the same market is JAST.

Back in 2015 and early 2016, that was absolutely the case, and it is still the case with Nekopara or even something like Nekonin which resonate with a broader audience. For their full length titles though, the Steam market has largely disappeared while the R18 market has held up better, and they need R18 versions for their Kickstarters to work as well as they do.

Maitetsu was announced during the Spring of 2016, and only got the 18+ version announced at AX this year. The MG version of Da Capo III was doing better than the Steam version, at least for the first month when Kouryuu noted there was a slight preference for the R18 version. Not to mention, Sekai's initial 1000-1500 sales are mostly for the R18 version with their Kickstarters. Though I'm sure something like Fruit of Grisaia sold much better on Steam than Denpa simply because of how many copies they sold on Steam, the same would be true for something like Eden for MG. Sekai noted at some point that 3% of Nekopara vol 3 sales got the paid patch and less than that purchased the full version off of Steam, but that is a viral Steam hit getting a much bigger audience.
