Heihachi wants world domination and plays geneologist with his children.
Kazuya wants world domination just to spite Heihachi.
Jin started a world war just to awake a demon that probably wouldn't have woken otherwise and probably isn't even defeated forever.

And then secondary characters you have Alisa, whose existence is to be a cute robot.
Lars, whose existence is purely to prove that the Devil Gene was on Kazumi's side of the family.
Lee Chaolan who does basically nothing.

I guess there's Jinpachi but he was only in one game to be possessed by an evil spirit anyways.

You can mix up the grabs. You're right about a grab-less King being meh, but grabs are his lows. They can be broken, but they do way more damage than unseeable lows and since iSW, GS and MB all have the same animation but different breaks, you can create a really nasty 60/30 in your favor.

Every fighting game needs reactions and SF honestly probably has more in terms of strategic positioning than Tekken, at least some entries.

Also don't forget that SF, being the most popular game in the world, is going to draw more people anyways. You're going to get lots of people from all over the world with different styles and then fluke geniuses like Punk.

My point was that the simpler the game is, the more important those things that are important in any fighting game are. Of course good reactions are important in Tekken as well, but so is game knowledge, and since there is more to know in Tekken than in SF, it's easier to compensate reactions that are inferior to you opponent with superior knowledge. In a game like SF a new player can more easily catch up with a legacy player because there's just less details to know about the game.
