As someone who's gone from Kazuya to Master Raven I can definitely tell there's a difference. I would at a guess say Raven's sidestep speed is average compared to the rest of the cast which is a bit of a shit because her [4,3] launcher would be a lot more useful if the sidestep was a bit faster. It might also be a case of her not travelling enough when sidestepping and her leg stance does cover a large area which might mean she's open to more punishment.

this is my first tekken game, came straight from sf4 for a few years.

Spacing is the most important thing in Tekken and the majority of matches are won with your left hand. For now just focus moving and using Steve's i10 punisher and steadily pick up what can be punished i14 and above. you can use rage art after any screw if you dash up but cancel the dash quickly
rage drive just does more damage so there's little reason to use ra unless you get a wall splat and it's going to kill or get them into poke kill range

If you sidestep tracking moves it won't work
If you sidestep too late it won't work
If your character has a particularly shit sidestep (like Gigas or something) it might not work

Other than that, it's a great idea. Lots of characters have good moves during their sidestep and it can dodge lots of strong attacks that otherwise can be a pain to deal with. Just practice timing it.

Asuka makes for a pretty good 2nd character to learn I feel.
Nice mix-ups and launchers that work very well when you know the games timings.
And shes very low demand on the input side of things.

That's not quite right. He only said something along the lines of that it would be unfair/wrong to charge for characters that were in previous games. This does not mean that it will not happen and as of now there has been zero confirmation that legacy characters will return, though with Harada at least recognising the desire for missing characters, in a few month we may see the return of Lei Wulong, Anna and Julia.

Long story short, everything is speculation at this point though we should hopefully have an idea what we will get, or not by the time the final DLC comes about.

you sidestep when you anticipate them doing a certain move
some moves that dont have the tracking property (the blue icon in the movelist) can still track well to one side or the other, some moves are very linear and wont track at all. subsequent hits in strings tend to re-track quite often, so even though you sidestepped the first hit of the string the 2nd or 3rd can realign.
you can cancel dashes into sidesteps

example on how to sidestep efficiently
>do a safe move that's slightly minus on block
>it gets blocked
>sidestep/sidewalk
>they try to jab to "take their turn"
>jab whiffs and you can whiffpunish the jab

im no expert but doing stuff like this can be very effective, randomly sidestepping is usually not a great idea unless your opponent throws out a lot of linear moves

Remember that sidestepping to different sides will have differing effects, certain moves can be sidestepped right but not to the left and vice versa.
You should try going a different direction sometimes.
Sidestepping is such a key part of being gud at Tekken that you shouldn't neglect it, you're just doing it wrong.
