Not worth it imo. Maybe for some hunts but not in general. US also isn't crazy good, considering how easy it is to keep your gauge up in brave (attacks fill more gauge than usual, as if you're always in red, and the fake CJ does not consume gauge while optionally jettisoning you to the most damaging part of the spirit combo). Bloodborne Blade is probably the best art for brave (as most of the new arts are), considering it's a long-lasting attack buff to stack to all attacks and the self-damage is negligible, especially given the healing effect to counter it. It's a 10/20/30% boost for 75/60/45 seconds, which is tremendous.

So I'd say AR or sacrificial blade.

World isn't out so we don't know. X/XX is in a weird quantum state where it's like a spinoff but is also part of the main series, might be useful to think of it like GTA:Vice City or Assassin's Creed Rogue. Point is, devs have said MHW is MH5 in all but name, and it doesn't have styles and shit, so it seems unlikely that X/XX are getting sequels, they're kinda their own self-contained thing. We'll probably see monsters from them in future games though.

think of it as in both games are the main series, we are in a rather odd spot right now.

XX is the japanese main title, which is your traditional monster hunter hit it until it dies experience, it has the most monsters, maps and weapons and is basically the most popular monster hunter game, it also suffers from exclusivity and region problems thus it's only playable on the 3ds or the switch and only in japanese.

MHW is a brand new concept for monster hunter and apparently has been in development for over 4 years, this is the first ever monster hunter to come to PC, not much is known at the moment about it other than the preview trailer and the narrated preview we have, but apparently it's going to be a rather different experience than traditional hit it until it dies and has a lot more elements of hunting/prowling/using the enviroment.

Will it be a gimmick? will the game be a bland, incomplete experience with only 12 monsters, 2 maps, and can be beaten in under 20h? who knows, that will be revealed early 2018.

As of now the best MH experience you can have is either play MH4U, or play MHgen on the 3ds, hack it to transfer the save to MHX, then transfer to MHXX when it comes to the switch, the switch is region free so you can easily buy the game on the eshop, but it will all be in japanese, which is why you should play gen first to understand the new mechanics so that once you are ready for XX everything comes naturally, even with all the moonrunes.

And from what we've seen the graphics in the switch version of XX are laughably bad, looks like most of the models and textures are still for a 240p screen so it looks like an N64 game in a lot of shots. Switch has only three that look decent, of which two are available on other platforms (the relevant one of which is on a platform you're already assuming someone has). The controller is definitely better by dint of having a functioning, built-in right stick, but it's still shitty unless you get a pro controller.

My point is that the save transfer is completely pointless. If you are actually able to do the save transfer you're also able to install the english patched version of XX to begin with and just play that and transfer your save once, instead of downloading an entire other game and playing through that in order to transfer your save three times. CB is weird, because it really is like three weapons in one. As in, there's three ways you can play it and do pretty well, though only one of those ways is actually overpowered (and greatly outshines the others). It also happens to be the least fun way, at least imo, so I wouldn't worry about it much unless you're actually trying to do TA.

Also, 80 hours is nothing, certainly too early to be comparing yourself to TA runners. I don't think I was ever really bad per se (I went in knowing about hitboxes and iframes and shit from other ARPGs and was able to pick things up pretty fast, though I also didn't start with literally the least beginner-friendly weapon like you apparently did), but it took me probably ~40-80 hours myself just to pick up all the weird shit like crouching to gather faster that the game never really tells you. But on the other hand I'm still learning nuances of a few weapons and I have probably about 2500 hours in the series now.

Technically this isn't my first MH game. I started with Gen (only used guild style) and played with GS which was fairly easy to use well but I'm having a tough time adapting to CB's more reactive playstyle. Most of the low rank and high rank shit isn't beating me up too much but once in a while I go up against certain monsters that just give me a ton of trouble where I take a ridiculous amount of time to kill them because if I'm too aggressive, they combo me to death but if I play it safe, I'm taking like 30 minutes for one hunt.

St.john's wort was helping to reduce the length of my attacks but never cut the frequency of them so you can imagine my surprise when cutting out my #1 stress reliever turned out to be for the better. Oh, okay. GS is probably THE most beginner friendly weapon. It's definitely the easiest to master, at the very least.

With CB, use the charged A attack and roundslash to build up phials fast, combo from putting phials in your shield to X (phial slash) XA (shield thrust) XA (quick AED) and press (or mash if you have trouble with the timing) R during the AED to charge your shield as quickly as possible, then fill your phials with the hold A -> X combo again, then just wait for an incoming attack and GP it with R+X (X to prime it beforehand to ensure you don't botch it). Then XA after landing the GP to do an AED, if the monster actually collides with it (causing the monster to recoil). Start with an SAED early for an easy KO if you're online, save it for when you think the monster is a few AEDs from death or your shield is flashing solo, otherwise don't use them much. That's the optimal way to play it. Not actually THAT complicated but definitely unintuitive. Personally though, I use SAEDs whenever I get a big enough opening and haven't literally just gotten my shield and phials up, use it like an SnS to get trips and staggers then morph into axe mode for a few attacks and back out, and only use GPs defencively. I find this the most fun way to play it. I thought because of that it would be fine for me in XXX, but it still feels off somehow, and much weaker.

I'm partial to guard/counter lancing and don't evade lance too often but I did notice less trips when I did. Guard up and guard 2 are just so comfy being able to turn a monster's most powerful attack into a minor inconvenience and counter it with a colossal sized middle finger.

Even I use brave LS sometimes, so I can't really blame them. It's fun. In fact, most of the brave styles are pretty fun, and I'm enjoying XX a lot more than I did X because of that and armour transmog. But yeah, you see much more brave LS than any other weapon including other LS styles. I don't even know if it's the strongest weapon/style but obviously something about it has mass appeal.

I also favour guard lancing, though I do a good bit of both. Guard lancing is definitely harder online, though, but a lot of that is because it's harder to predict the monster's aggro for well-timed counters.

I'm not sure what the best ones are. The best for pure shelling are seltas and seregios I think (long has several advantages over normal, especially with brave and alchemy being so long-biased; it's a misconception that brave is normal-biased because of fullburst spam, fullburst spam with long actually does the same damage from the fullbursts because quick reload only reloads 4 shells with normal but loads all 3 with long in addition to long having much more damage per shell), and seltas is easy to make, but there's definitely a lot of way better options for general use. The plesioth one for instance is a way better overall water GL than seltas.

As for alchemy GL, it cools down WF in half the time and also reduces the WF charge time to about a second (same as brave mode), so it's a lot easier to use WF for burst damage and keep the heat gauge under control, and since it's alchemy there's the benefit that even if the weapon is pretty weak you're helping out the team in other ways (though this is close to the popular strawman about HH users, using negligible buffs as an excuse for doing no damage, so I try not to use the style that much).
