There's only one janitor slot on 3/4 of the maps on /vg/station. Cargo tech and assistant are also decent choices for first timers.
Red doors usually lead to space.
Don't try to refill your welder with it lit.
Don't try to crowbar flashing firedoors unless you and people around have activated magboots or are strapped into chairs.
If you talk to people and try to have fun with them you'll be less likely to die for a dumb reason and left to rot. (Although at the same time it could end up with you getting sucked dry by a vampire or ling looking for easy prey.)
If you alt-click your uniform on the interface you can set your tracking beacon so you'll be more likely to be found and cloned.

You buckle to chairs and your janicart by dragging your sprite into it, and unbuckle by clicking it.
Leave wet floor signs to be inmune to lynching if you mop with water. Alternatively get a janicart upgrade from science or Space Cleaner from chemistry.

My thoughts as a security player are "oh wow now I can't stand in the way of some asshole trying to escape and now he can sax past all my unrobust buddies" my thoughts as an assistant are "now I can't push people into the door to sax past half a dozen people out of the brig. Oh well, at least now it's easier to sax past everyone that doesn't know how to aim, can't wait for all the 10 minute brig escapes I'm going to pull in the future". I'd like to say I don't know how you can think this is a good change, but again I know exactly why. You're a shit player bud. The truth is out there
It's more often the past couple of weeks that I'm on because I've done the stuff I wanted to do, but I was gone for a good bit (again). I'm still interested in the game, but there's also so much other stuff I wanna do. Outside of the summer break, I also only get a limited number of hours a day after the uni (and homework for it) is done. I've gone through the "spend all PC hours on spess more spess always spess play play play observe observe observe" phases but it's still a fun and unique game although a lot of the administrative part of it seems to be looked at as a "banning game" which is really not very healthy don't just look to ban people.
You can see if you look at the admins page at ss13.moe/index.php/admins that maintaining it requires nothing for months (or perhaps) years and that "admin purges" are rare and sporadic - I've only ever seen and heard of one. You really don't need to do any work to maintain adminship, for better or for worse. The last guy who worked on trialmins, Nuke, did extensive research into *where* trialmins were needed, but I don't expect anybody to do that (or to hire eight fukken trialmins at once, the crazy asshole).
Besides that, I'm still interested in playing, but I'm not going to log on after a week of not having been on, play a round or two, and then fuck off. Adminning's more important (even though there are so many admins on that I feel less useful). I guess there's still the admin channel, but there's not much to say about questions everybody else could answer equally well, if not better.
