How do I git gud at infection? I can play a mean survivor (loads of kills, often lms, good at hiding) but I can't play zombie/flood for the life of me.

Most likely, yes. The place is huge so the main stem itself is easily large enough to house a city. The smaller stems are docks and refueling stations, though in my opinion they are far too cluttered for that to really work out well.
Man the main dome is shaped fucking weird though.

What was the importance of the alien ship that crashed on Halo some 40,000 years before the pillar of autumn arrived?

The alien ship itself is not important. But it did have an effect on the story. It was Guilty Spark's motivation for not following protocal when the humans and covenant arrived, as he had followed it with the first ship and got bored that nothing happened as a result.
Guilty Spark could have killed everyone, human, covenant, and flood alike, once things started to get out of hand but he decided to let it play out due to being amused by the first exciting series of events happening since the Halo arrays fired. This ability to override protocal was a side effect of his rampancy.
This is why after he followed protocal with the crashed alien ship, he said "next time things will be different."

The Blistful slumber or whatever (the storm rifle variant) is probably the closest halo version of a lore tier plasma rifle.

I mean lore wise plasma weapons have small splash damage and are terrifying. That storm rifle is scary in a mid-close range fight

The club is pretty much the best solution for setting up events since everyone gets a notification when LFG posts are created. The only useful thing the company has is the company tab in the game. It's not just that. They have no character, unlike the covenant. No funny dialogue exchanges, and nothing to break up the monotony. Also, the teleportation is just lazy design: why have a reason and means for an enemy to be in any given area when they can just teleport from thin air? It's stupid. It really needs to go. All it does is force map design to be developed around it which causes everything to be unnecessatily stretched out. It takes just as long to get across a Halo 5 map with sprint as it does a Halo 2 map only at least there I can shoot while moving.

So I think there are two sides to smart scope. The idea of every weapon having an alternate fire mode which functions differently (not necessarily better, but differeny) a la dead space is a cool concept, and in all fairness some of the Halo 5 weapons do in fact work this way. At the same time however, the weapons that simply have an iron sight is just annoying. It's clear and undeniable pandering to the COD crowd. Just give those weapons a normal zoom. Also, autos should not get an accuracy buff when zoomed.

I like certain weapons having alternate fire that is conditional. I like the light rifle being better zoomed for instance but hardwr to manage. I like the hydra and inciniration canon being faster at firing unzoomed but more accurate/powerful zoomed.
What I don't like are ADS and automatic weapons becoming syraight up better when smart scoping. Either remove those two factors and replace them with a conditional (but not better) alternate fire (maybe when zoomed the AR becomes a single shot weapon) or just give them traditional zoom.

Light Rifle - Same as now. Zoom is harder to manage at close distance but it does more damage
DMR - 3X zoom distance but with slight bloom effect
Magnum - Traditional zoom
Plasma Pistol - 2x zoom that slowly drains battery and does not allow for charging but gives individual shots a tracking function
Boltshot - 1.5X zoom brings back shotgun ability from Halo 4, but can not 1-shot and is difficult to land due to decreased FOV from zoom
AR - 2X zoom, weapon fires individual bullets
Storm Rifle - 2.5X zoom, weapon accuracy decreases
Suppressor - smart scope function is now the tracking function that halo 5 has bt default

Energy Sword - player swings the energy sword 360 degrees around him/herself. Good for countering people trying to sneak up on the player. This will use 10 energy regardless of whether it hits
Gravity Hammer - Player throws the gravity hammer like a javelin. It has a gravity hammer smash effect on impact, but can be picked up by the enemy afterwards.
Grenade Launcher - SS fires sticky grenades (H4). Default function fires non-stickies (Reach/5)
Brute Shot - SS fires bouncy ammo (H2), Default function fures non-bouncy (H3)

A lot. It will crack the top 5 games when it releases.
The big question though will be how long it maintains high popularity. It's going to be very telling as to how popular the classic Halo formula still holds up for people compared to other games that offer instant gratification at a more consistant basis.

The trends since 2008 suggest that COD simply cracked the ultimate casual code. It's a much more pick-up-and-playable game at the end of the day.
