CE: great maps. open. explorsable.. but empty spaces and repeat levels arent good.

Halo2: Good maps. Even more variety. Good action.. But small. more linear. and not as grand as CE

Halo3: : Fair maps. Some are just weak and very uninspiring or very unHalo. However The Ark and The Covenant (tsavo a bit too) are well into amazing. without those 3 missions Halo3 would be a lot less good

Halo 4: Ok maps. nothing special. But unlike Halo3 doesnt have anything horrible. But also nothing over an 8/10.. It has no super good or super bad. just average.. pretty well diverse in enviorments

halo 5: slightly better in ways than Halo4. Yet no map worth praise. Enviorments look good but seem weak. Only a few levels look good. most are just bland

Most studios would have been closed by the publisher after this many fuck ups but guven the brand name they are working with Microsoft has kept them going and slowly but surely they are learning.
Props to them for greenlighting Wars 2, which i always wanted but never thought woupd happen.
The next main series Halo game I am optomistic for as well.

That being said, give any team enough time and money, and they will improve. 343 is gerting better. I don't think any of their games are "bad", but I expect more from this franchise. Luckily, they seem to be trending in the right direction overall.

Halo 4 was a fresh take on an existing series by a new dev team that wanted to make its mark on said series while still staying faithful to the brand. For the most part I believe 343 was successful in this endevor, and while Halo 4 lacks of polish and contains some questionable implementations (infinity slayer, spartan ops) I don't think it's by any means a bad game and wish the team hadn't backpedled so hard due to negative reception.

MCC was a very ambitious project that clearly didn't get enough time to be properly polished and tested and was rushed out the door in time for the Halo 2 10th anniversary. It's a complete shame what happened to that game.

Halo 5: Guardians is a good example of why you don't cater too heavily to mob mentality. Keeping in touch with the fans is important, but you have to remember it's YOUR artistic vision you're trying to create first and foremost. Halo 5 suffered from apparent rewrites, catering to a "pro community" first and foremost, a competitor crowd community, and then also still existing halo fans. The result was a mess that while very well balanced (in fact, possibly the most balanced sandbox in the series), didn't strike an identifyable chord with any one sizable group of fans. Development was further complixated by campaign cuts, staff resignations, a forced in squad mechanic, and the game being forced to include technical specifications on a tight time table on a new console that couldn't handle said specifications without MAJOR consequences. Hence the game launched with very little expected content, a short and forgettable campaign, no split screen, a small map roster, and microtransactions galore.
I don't hate Halo 5. It'a a much better game now than when it launched, but I can't help but feel like this was an avoidable outcome.

Halo Wars 2 wasn't made by 343 but I appreciate it's existance. That's all I'll say

All in all. I am glad 343 is taking their time on 6 and I strongly believe it will be ther best

I always felt the start of Tsavo Highway was a little too shaky, funnily enough because of all the bumps. I think it should have been more straightforward, light hills. The latter part of the level gets into using roads, but only for about two minutes of driving then it goes back to bumpy offroad.

Halo 4 was extremely flawed in it's execution. From the drastically different art style and heavy reliance on the extended universe for backstory, They created a weird situation where fans who only played the games were just as lost as newcomers when it came to the story. The multiplayer was blatant attempt to attract the COD audience, even more so than reach. This on top of the clusterfucks that happened later firmly cemented this game on a downward trend for 343.

Halo 5 addressed the confusion caused by Halo 4's story by- making the lore disconnect between 4 and 5 even worse than 3 and 4. The story is bad, the squad mechanic is bad and the levels range from awful to mediocre. The multiplayer again was plagued by a lack of content in the game's vital first months. The awful p2w game mode that we got in place of both invasion and btb also didn't help the game maintain a dedicated amount of players. And the cherry on top of this was 343i making designing the maps around what the pro's wanted, the multiplayer was directed towards being competitive instead of being fun like halo MP is supposed to be. We eventually got a forge mode which helped spur the fun aspect of the halo community but it was too little too late by then.

Both the 343 games are poor halo games. 343 were so obsessed with making halo theirs that halo 4 effectively tanked the franchise, then they attempted that much damage control with 5 that they forgot to make it a halo game. I'm not even going to bother bringing MCC into this discussion.

I guess every gun is useful if it kills in half a second. That doesn't make it a good sandbox though. Literally every on map pickup is better than your starting "utility" weapon, the pistol, which completely defeats the purpose of a utility weapon. The guns are too powerful. That's why power weapons are so limited in 5. Let's compare it to The Pit.
The Pit had many power weapons. Shotgun, sword, Rocket Launcher, Sniper Rifles. You also had lower tier but still useful stuff like maulers and needlers. Imagine having all that on a map in 5. It would be a clusterfuck. The blast radius due to thrusters and sprint is insane on explosives, and the shotgun and sword have huge range. That isn't a sign of a well-balanced sandbox.

I've stopped caring about game balance, what's more important to me now is matchmaking. It doesn't matter or well or poorly balanced a title is if the matchmaking is shit, as soon as you get people with such wildly different skill ranges stuck together any pretense of balance and competition goes out the window. I'm absolutely sick of how one sided most matches are in Halo 5 at this point, either stomping or getting stomped, and if Halo 6 keeps the same matchmaking I don't give a damn what else they improve I may just drop this series for good.

That's why he hugged the elite, to stand behind it's larger body and energy shields as cover from the blast. They were also on a rocky outcropping which would provide plenty of cover. There's nothing in the game to suggest the legendary ending is a joke or whatever you're saying. And there's nothing in the game to suggest a timegap between CE&2, in fact the armory seargent talks about plasma burns on chief's mark 5 armor which means he only just removed it. It's clear to me that chief flew his longsword and docked at cairo station, maybe him and Johnson gave a debriefing/mission report there to Lord hood beforehand though.

The arbiter's cutscene also further reinforce my point, he is being brought to justice before his leaders for his failure at the Halo ring, I doubt they would wait any time to do this when the ring held such significance, unless you mean to suggest a slow courtroom/justice process in the covenant which is where you would move to ridiculous territory

As far as your why/how. Well how do people after war have more kids and usually prosper industrially? Maybe after almost being killed Humanity didn't want to risk it. Hate it all you want but if the Infinity existed it would have helped, even if it didn't win it still would have given Humanity an edge. If someone almost killed you in your home I wouldn't be shocked if you got a gun or better locks.

I never got why people still think Halo3 ended The "Covenant". Do you think some battles would end a clusterfuck of aliens that cant even keep themselves in check (heretics. Banished.
