Aren't there only two difficulties? Pick the non-picnic mode.

I'm playing DeSu1 and am stuck on Day 8 because I'm in a loop with Beldr. I've gone with a Mag build with the MC and any damage I deal with Devil's Fuge is healed up by Beldr with Vampirism. I guess the fuge damage scales off strength because i'm dealing approx 280.

Is there any other way to deal with this guy without even more grinding? I'll be glad for the excuse to put this game down and play a mainline SMT game, this feels like a poor choice for my first series entry with the shit story and unforgivable grinding.

Use a Kishin and Tyrant with the MC to push back his turns so he doesn't use it as often. Devil's Fuge scales with your level, if I remember right.

i don't think they're just generic demon elements. they're related to his legend from the torah/dead sea scrolls, like the bull being the bull of heaven/golden calf, the snake being the serpent of eden and so on. since he's supposed to be omniscient according to his myths, all of those things, both good and bad are parts of him.

The demonic head is literally the most generic looking depiction of a devil like figure in the whole series.

The design would be much more cohesive without it. Remove that and make the shriveled human form more visible and I think the design would be greatly improved. I actually don't mind the dead-eyed animal heads at all.

What are you guys playing currently? I'm going through SMT1 for the first time. I love how minimal it is and doesn't have cutscenes amuck. Haven't played a retro game in a long time. I just made it to Shibuya, and it feels like a lot happened in-game in a short amount of real time. Also the OST is just fucking cool.

For Megami Tensei 1 and 2, what would you guys say is the preferred version?

I'm not saying the gameplay is bad at all, but a lot of other SMT games have some bullshit fights or mechanics which make the games more difficult, if you know what your doing, you wont dye in Apoc, dying from RNG just isn't that common and even if you do dad just brings you right back.

What exactly is the strategy for the yellow mecha Moowis? The one that blurts out skill names for a reason I don't know why. Maybe because I'm dumb but I find myself barely doing damage, even with some buffs and up to date gear.

If I didn't like SMTIV is Apocalypse worth my time? To be specific I didn't like how easy it was, how the neutral route is a mundane list of checks and balances from answering things just right (and getting forced law or chaos) and then how it requires you to do most of the fucking side quests for some arbitrary reason. And of course the world map.

I know SMTIVA is more 'anime' or shonen but I don't mind that as long as it's good and a challenge without feeling like a drag.

IVA pretty much fixes all the things you hate about it (aside from the Neutral route thing, there's not really any routes until right near the end and even then it doesn't change the bosses).

Which SMTG game on the 3DS/DS should I start with?
Never played a game from the main series, only Persona 3-5.
Right now I'm torn between SMTIV and Apocalypse.

You will probably like Apocalypse, the only thing you might not like is that you can either save the world through the power of friendship, or you can go full grimdark edgy and kill all your friends for power, there is no in between. The world map isn't much different, but the game is much clearer about giving direction so you shouldn't get lost. Apocalypse has far more polished gameplay and is much more 'fair'.

Apocalypse is the sequel to IV, but you don't necessarily need to play it after IV.

That said, IV isn't as enjoyable to play but the writing fares better (not to say it's perfect, there's still plotholes and what not). IVA's gameplay is very good and plays better in pretty much every single way, but the writing's bad. You might not mind it too much if you're a Personafag anyway.

They're still fun games though. If you plan on playing both, start with IV for sure. Neutral route is kind of a drag to finish but it has the most content and 'canon' ending.

What point would there be for Law Hero from SMT1 to meet up Law Hero from SMT4, not to mention the silent protagonists which are just avatars for the player. I'm the same, I just started SMT IV after only playing P3 and 4.

Gameplay is great, and once you get past Naraku it's a lot more open in where you can go. The characters are kind of meh so far but I've heard they're kind of the weakest in the main series. Music is awesome too.

I plan on playing Apocalypse next, then going through DeSu 1 and 2, Soul Hackers, and DSJ when it comes out.
