The meta in 4.0 has always been SCH/AST. WHM has nothing to do with this equation and will continue to unless they somehow miraculously decide to make Confessions or Plenary into a group buff. Any buffs to SCH only further solidify its already achieved spot.

Meanwhile, WHM and SCH are too busy flinging shit at each other and fighting for the scraps to realize that AST is the reason that healer balance is so shit atm.

I highly doubt it would ever happen, but I would love to see the hysteria that would follow Balance being nerfed to 10%. I suspect there would be a mass exodus from AST the likes of which would dwarf that of the bible.

While it is versatile, it has always shined at mitigating damage, which is why it's favored in situations where the mechanics are well known. No other job scales with knowledge the way SCH, which is why it will always be relevant so long as it centers around mitigating damage. The problem with AST is that it excels at healing AND shielding, while trading off essentially nothing. Unlike most jobs, SCH actually has to make tradeoffs between damage and healing, which is probably why it took so long for them to touch. They weren't sure how to nerf it without breaking its legs.

I mean, are you main tanking? Even then, gettng 720 tenacity from melds is only 3.6% damage reduction when you could be getting 4.6% damage increase from direct hit.

The difference in damage is small, sure, but the damage reduction is also small: small to the point where you won't lower the burden on your healer enough to make them need to cast less healing spells.

P.S.: Crit got nerfed to base 5%chance/135%damage which means it's gonna be outright garbage until like i380

Can someone explain to me how the fuck Summoner is supposed to work now?

I geared it up since I leveled SCH anyway but shit. Everything about the job feels so awful. I can kill the training dummy for Susan with like 30 or more seconds to spare on SAM, BRD, SCH and AST, but I just have no fucking clue what I'm doing on Summoner and can't kill it at all.

Is there a good guide out there or something? Or even just a good rotation/opener?

Well most Scholars I've met are idiots who only play the job for fast queues and because they CAN just auto-follow the tank with Rouse/Whispering Dawn on macro every 60 seconds. And most players in this game in general are pretty fucking awful.

All the good Scholars I've ever seen do do that shit. If your SCH isn't doing that and is rambling about 'muh DEEPS, muh parse', just kick him from your fucking static and get a better one.

I'm not even that amazing a Scholar (I play too many jobs to really be a master of any of them) but I can get parties through Ukehi/Meteor/whatever the fuck Lakshmi's AOE shit is called with the damage being dealt reading as '0'. And I'm still doing some damage.

SCH, played at it's full potential is still WAYYYYY better than people are giving it credit for, because so few people play the job TO it's full potential. Every time someone talks about the job's 'mana problems' it just blows my fucking mind. With the buffs coming down the pipe, we're gonna see some serious shit but only in top tier raiding groups.
