Jesus fuck almost all the Crisis's in stellaris are fucking horrible, I am starting again and turning them off
The AI will just sit on its ass 95 percent of the time, even when it is an empire that awakened as response to the crisis, and because of this if you are not in a situation where you can kill them quickly then they can quickly become impossible to fight

I managed to hold these fuckers off for almost 50 fucking years while only losing a single planet to them at the very start and have been useing hit and run tactics to slow them the fuck down and destroy their anchors, but unable to destroy the portal
and now they are coming for me in full force in a size that I can't fight off even with spending more time paused than actually going forward

AI will only do anything if it has a larger fleet than whatever it wants to attack. It won't fight unbidden fleets unless it has a bigger fleet, it won't attack unbidden stations unless it has a fleet bigger than all of the stations in the system. If an AI does have large enough fleets it usually does good work, a fanatic purifier was eating all of their fleets in my last game while a smaller empire kept sending its fleets to snipe the dimensional anchors.

It definitely needs a rework though and supposedly they're revamping AI in regards to crises in 1.8 but I wouldn't hold my breath, that's the same exact shit they said they'd do a year ago.
>>
>>182765667
What I'm looking forward to in 1.8 is more diplomacy options and a federation rework, where federations can meld together into one empire after enough time.

>And how do you assign different ships to specific flotillas in battle?
When you engage there should be "advanced options" button in the lower part of the screen. Don't know how you've managed so far without it, as it shows all sorts of convenient stuff like overall fleet DMG type and preferred range comparisons. You then just drag and drop ships from flotilla to flotilla.

If I pick short range tactics, and my opponent picks long range tactics, does that mean that the battle happens at medium range?
>>
>>182773818
It'll go long range > medium range > short range in equal duration each
>>
>>182773818
If there's range differences between the flotillas, the battle plays out with the flotilla that doesn't initially have its preferred range advancing every phase until it's at optimal. There's no "reversing". Every battle has 3 phases unless the opponent gets completely destroyed before.

F.ex.
>Long vs. Short = Long, Medium, Short
>Long vs. Medium = Long, Medium, Medium
>Long vs. Long = Long, Long, Long
>Medium vs. Short = Medium, Short, Short

Essentially the first phase always start at the longer range's preferred range and every turn it shifts closer to shorter range flotilla's preferred range dictated by the chosen card.

>>
Horatio Sauce better be a /civ4xg/ player in the VGLeague 9.
>>
>>182776841
There's overhead mode or whatever it's called that gives you a top down view of the battle with firing trajectories and all. Each flotilla pair also has a symbol dictating which range they're currently firing from and it changes according to phases as per >>182776113 assuming the opposing flotilla has different preferred range set by their card.

As for flotillas without direct opponents (f.ex. you have two but enemy has one flotilla) I think their firing are all calculated as Long range battles no matter whatever your chosen range for that flotilla is. However the top and bottom flotillas can never fire at each other as they're too far away while the middle flotilla can fire to both top and bottom flotillas assuming your middle flotillas has already dealt with their opposite middle flotilla. You also get bonuses to overall fleet accuracy and DMG if you have more flotillas than the enemy.
>>
>>182777562
So if I have 3 ships, I should split them up into 3 flotillas and have 2 of them be customized for long range?
>>
>>182778510
You can't do flotilla split unless you have enough *used* CP in your current fleet, so you can't split a fleet composed of only three starter 1 CP ships but I think you can split three carrier class ships since they use much more CP. I don't remember the exact breaking points but the game tells you this at advanced battle options if you haven't got enough used CP in your current fleet for flotilla split. Top flotilla unlocks first, then the bottom flotilla.

Also if your opponent has more than one flotilla they can obviously engage your top and bottom flotillas as well so keep that in mind. Anyways you shouldn't worry too much about it since the weapon effectiveness is dictated by their type and while missiles and lasers are at their greatest at long range, kinetics don't get too big of a penalty from firing at long range either. Only beam weapons are *entirely* useless at Long and Medium whereas missiles are useless only at Short range. You should always focus more on weapons that counter enemy defenses and that can fire from your preferred card range.

If you happen to get an enemy that can't create more than one flotilla due to not enough used CP while you can, they're forced into using middle flotilla and you can just opt to put one ship into both top and bottom flotillas since you get the morale bonus that way and they're essentially forced into engaging their opposite middle flotilla first.

>You don't need to worry about expansion.
You do need to worry about it, since you still need to control villages and they're more vulnerable than cities, though losing one isn't as big of a hit either unless it's early game. I think the Cultists' strong point and fun part is the lack of empire level micro as converted villages produce free FIDSI that's all directed to their only city, free citizen, free strategic and luxury resources without having to build extractors (as long as you have the proper tech) and even free units that you can either use or sell to market for more Dust. Basically villages just give you more of everything as long as you defend them (or better yet just kill off all would be invaders from your continent) and you only need to manage one city.

Instead of blobbing like Necrophages you instantly raze all cities you come conquer (even capitals that are normally unrazeable) and in doing so get free Science and Industry stockpiles depending on the citizen count of the razed city. Just keep destroying everyone with a combination of free doomstacks of mixed units or your own racial units with the unique Order of Isiver accessory (from their quest) that gives them ridiculous stats. If you get the ball rolling and Influence output high you can just raze through enemy territory and convert every village you come across for convenient on-the-field reinforcement.

Yeah, especially if your enemy falls for the beams-only-on-every-ship meme since they're abhorrently destructive but their range orientation is whopping 0/0/100%, meaning they can only fire at Short so you can easily counter them by picking Long for your flotillas since the enemy will then take 2/3 phases to close in before being able to shoot at all. In general from longest to shortest range:

Missiles: 100/80/0%, High projectile DMG
Lasers: 100/100/80%, Normal energy DMG + higher crit rate than kinetics
Kinetics: 80/100/100%, Normal projectile DMG + shoots down missiles
Beams: 0/0/100%, Massive energy DMG and crit rate
crit = ignores all defenses

Basically lasers and kinetics work well at any orientation so they're all rounders but perform slightly worse at short or long, whereas missiles and beams do much higher damage but they have hard counters.
>>
>>182789507
That only gets you one round of your preferred range. The first round would be long range, and the third would be short.

update: My immediate neighbors are Assyria and Russia. I always play Fractal maps so I don't know what land mass i start on, but as i'm playing standard and met 6 of the 7 opponents I'm guessing I'm on a Pangaea. America and Russia are already fighting over land between them, so I'm probably good for awhile

Have you ever had to exit and merge onto the freeway on the left lane?
I'm not talking about a split lane that merges onto another freeway. I'm talking about exiting onto regular roads using the LEFT LANE.

Some rural states have these to save on building costs and they're accident hotspots.
>>
>>182791724
I don't know about that but it's, or used to be stupid enough to field nothing but beam ships itself. I don't know if it ever intentionally tries to nullify its opponent's beam outfitted ships but it does make choices depending on its own fleet setup so if the AI is fielding laser and missile ships it's bound to pick long range cards that make your beams useless as well.

>>

I just finished my first Endless Legend play through. Necrophages are obscene and I wish you actually got some form of ending cutscene when you win. Especially when you do it the way the species would do it. (I ate everyone and almost accidental the scientific victory). How does the diplomatic route go? Cause the drakken seem kind of cool in aesthetic but the diplomacy in this game just fealt like Compliment the AI to stall them as your eating someone else.

Also, is Age of Wonders 3 (or any in the series) any good that also had customization I like)?
>>
>>182809315
you get diplomatic good boy points for every turn you spend at peace/alliance with someone else; get enough, and you win

it's a pretty dumb victory condition especially when shared victory conditions are a thing, so they removed it in ES2
>>
>>182809747
passive victories are the worst
>>
>>182810025
yeah, they really do suck; however, Drakken at least achieve diplomatic victory in a really fun manner
you essentially work as a bully and global enforcer, identifying who's getting too far ahead, forcing their neighbors into an alliance with you, and bashing them back into submission, at which point you force them into a truce and then peace
>>
>>182809747
>>182810025

Okay so its just get as large as a kingdom I can then passively defend then I win? Is Research victory fun? Im worried this games replay value against the AI isnt that great. ES2 combat had some nice spectacle though I liked it more. Also the beginnings feel so slow it makes really want to only settle on at least 12+ industry starter.

Also, I keep getting scared that people ive never seen all game are going to win. Like id be doing my first war with someone then the AI is "5 turns away from winning as the sky goes red" and I get really nervous itll just end.

Given that most games are totally devoid of challenge for anyone who's not retarded and has played them more than twice, I find Stellaris crises very refreshing
When you don't start a game KNOWING you will win is when a game remains interesting

Well, they kind of are. Fallen into philosophical and diplomatic stasis. And on a flavour basis they really are supposed to represent civilizations that once ruled half the galaxy but then let it all slip away.

Tbh I actually liked them more in 1.2 where they were Fallen and stayed Fallen. I appreciated them more from an RP perspective as aloof ancients who serve as a crack-able treasure trove of resources and technology if you choose to crack them, rather than what they are now they can awake post-1.3: geopolitical H-bombs on a short fuse.

I would like them only respond to crises and nothing more. And since it ruled the galaxy ages ago, I would also like them adding event in the habitable world where we will have access to some of the old factories and residence they once lived.
>>
>>182826109
is settling and selling outposts usually profitable for lumeris or is it just there for being a dick?
>>
>>182826182
you have to be smart on who you will sell it to - selling outposts is a great money-maker early game before your trade companies get up and running properly, but you need to settle in places that they can't afford to leave in their rivals' hands, and make sure that they can afford it; of course, the AI in particular doesn't care about where it is, but in multiplayer it gains way more depth

of course, there's also the classic trick of selling off an outpost only to settle the system again, blockade the outpost you just sold, and pop all of the bonuses in order to steal the system back

For FULL IMMERSION:
A) make your empire xenophilic / authoritarian (so you like aliens, but you like them on their knees in chains)
B) Give your people the "Decadant" trait (makes them really, really want slaves)
C) when you capture them, put the aliens on "Domestic servitude" which makes your pops even more happier when there's slaves around makes you

>Have your fleet have hunters and protectors. Hunters carry weapons and +weapon support, protectors carry fleet move, fleet repair, fleet shields.

Congrats. You win vs missiles, you win vs beams, you win vs kinetics due to your one-flotilla focus fire, and you win agains lasers due to your fleet shield modules.

Enjoy never losing another ship.

You basically have to become Micro Hell.

I was helped by the fact that this is the xenophile FE and after Awakening he didn't go conquer anyone, he just sat there and built ships using his magic money pot and occasionally smacked people for slaving. So he only had 7 worlds.

So I split my fleet up into 7, lined up a 20-army-strong invasion force behind each one, and the day after the DoW, I warped one force into each of his systems. Fleet picks off the spaceport easily, then don't even bombard the planet at all - just run away before the doomstack turns up. 30 psychic armies will win going in dry against even a fully fortified planet with a moderate number of defensives / garrisons.

The tactic relies on the fact that the enemy doomstack can't be in 7 places at once. Which ever place the doomstack DOES go to, you either leave immediatly, or, if the alignments are right, let him chase you until he's over the star, THEN warp out, as it'll take him a month to get back to the edge of the system, buying your other forces time to snipe more space stations.

For me the AE had 4 stacks of 150k. So I made 1 stack of 200k and fortresses that reduced fire rate in a dozen systems. Since that AE was fighting an other empire at the time, eventually I was able to trap it's fleets one at a time at one of the stations and kill it with relatively low losses. Repeated several times until the fleets were gone.

This is where you're getting it wrong.
Don't even try. If you engage the doomstack, the whole strategy is toast.
Basically, if you're doing a long war against an AE, their fleet should remain 10x your strength right up to the point where they cede you their last planet.

No you don't.
We're talkin Sun Tzu shit here, m8. Don't engage the enemy on his strengths and all. If your fleet never is where the enemy's fleet is, all the tachyon weapons in the galaxy are literally of no use to them.
Just make sure that for every planet he takes, you take two, and then just grind, grind, grind his warscore down. When it gets to 100% 'cos you've taken 57 planets and he's only taken 30, a winner is you regardless of how much fleet power he has.

Rough Riders are pointless. The +5 combat bonus for all units already ensures you own your entire continent early on therefore there is no reason to have a unit that specializes on your home continent.

The pointlessness of a fighter that specializes in anti-air is self evident as well.

The bonuses are good, a lot more useful and victory oriented than other civ bonuses. The combat bonus is huge early game when combat makes the most sense. You can create the world's largest empire before anyone can hate you for it.

The national park bonuses can be very powerful if you have three or more strong holy districts and set aside plots of land before you even settle. Also use entertainment and culture districts to raise appeal where necessary. The Film Studio only compounds this cultural advantage.

America has perhaps the most reliable culture victory of any civ.

if they don't know the system belongs to you yet (IE haven't explored it even though they can faintly see the sphere of influence) they can enter it; however, once they're inside, they immediately have to route to a system outside of your borders (which includes your own systems they haven't explored)

closed borders aren't actually effective against people who literally just met you unless they're probe-happy

I like it. Would buy it if it was on sale, mostly because I dislike Stardock's 3rd party log in/registration thing. Beyond that it's a less polished EL with all the DLC.

My main draw are quests and the fact I can customize my units's equipment. The downsides are the lackluster AI (like pretty much every 4x) and that it has a few bugs that were never patched (borders disappear if you load a savegame while a game is already playing, have to exit the game completely and restart the game for the borders to show up again)

>microing like crazy and abusing the fact that AI is retarded
I am kinda conflicted about this. Is it a legitimate tactic, or is it an exploit? On the one hand, it's difficult, tedious work that relies on an encyclopedic knowledge of the game's systems (army prep, inter-system warp angling, multipronged attacks, emergency retreat, in-system travel times). But on the other hand, the only reason it works is the AI's behavioural coding, AND it's sort of a magic bullet that will always work regardless of how small you are and how big the AI is.
So it simultaneously feels like legit Pro-gamer and also like exploit scrub.

First they become latent then later the members who are in your Empire become full psychic while other empires only keep the latents
I wish the synthetic route had something similar because first time I went synth I was disappointed because a spiritualist Fallen empire declared War on me because they were too upset at shit I had done and when I proceeded to full annex then I found that I had for some reason both lost the ability to modify pop into cyborgs and could not turn them into synths as a fate worse than Death for them
>>
>>182945910
I handed one of my pops over to the FE's preserve in the 2200s, and while my species became latent psychic, then full psychic in 2400, the ones on The Preserve remained regular plebs, and remained regular plebs even when I killed the FE and conquered The Preserve.

It doesn't actually bother me in the slightest, because I like being able to tell the difference between historically divergent strands of my populatuon more than I like narrative to gameplay consistency, but I do agree that it makes no sense flavour-wise.

Depends on whether or not you have the autism to Sun Tzu them (i.e. prosecute war by micro hell).
If you do, then you can probably manage to beat an FE/AE of any size with a fleet of about 50k - although the Sun Tzu strategy plases massive emphasis on a good, LARGE, army, which can end up consuming a significant portion of your resources on its own, compared to normal Stellaris warfare where armies are an afterthought.

If you do not have autism, then take solace in the fact that fleet power is a lie and a good loadout plus good strategy will see you able to take down the doomstack once yours is about 60% their strength.
But given that AEs routinely exceed 500k before they even start snowballing, this may not be that much of a consolation.

If you're doing regular warfare against an equivalent opponent, it doesn't really matter. Once you kill their doomstack they have no power to resist your tender caresses, because you can take all the time in the world to bombard their planets down to 0, at which point a cuddly kitten could walk in and occupy it.
***HOWEVER***, what you DO need armies for is to stop the planets rebelling straight back to the enemy after the peace treaty. So my recommendation would be that you want a stack of 10 for each planet you expect them to cede.
>>

>>

>that general name

>>
>>182949967
Don't ever use one fleet alone. Use several "combat" fleets to take out spaceports and SOMETIMES siege a planet. Always keep them away from the enemy's doomstack. The enemy's dooms tack will be distracted with a decoy fleet (or many). These decoys will be a band of about 10 semi naked corvettes (give en the best FTL tech and speed you have, keep em in groups of 10 so they can take out any mining station quickly). These decoys will be waiting on systems for the doomstack to arrive, and when they do, warp them away.
All the while you will be landing groups of 30 troops in every planet (the more at the same time the better). With those numbers, you probably won't have to siege. Do this until you have 100% warscore.

It's situational, and the answer is usually no.

The nominal advantages of liberate-integrate are a) the pops don't get unhappiness penalty, and b) it doesn't generate threat so doesn't cause other empires to gang up against you.
But happiness is a total meme in Stellaris so b) is the only functional advantage - and yes, it can indeed be useful if you're in a situation where everyone deciding they hate you would be a Bad Thing.

Meanwhile, the advantages of outright cede demands are that it gives you the planets and their resources right now, and it doesn't cost you all your blurple mana in integration fees.

I usually find that Stellaris diplomacy is shallow anyway to the extent that everyone usually hates you no matter what you do, rendering liberate-integrate's only advantage moot.

Is the AI crisis supposed to be this piss easy? I just watched it spawn about 400 years in and the initial fleets got instantly put down by the NPC empire it spawned in, now the NPC fleet's just parked over the AI world and nothing seems to be happening.

My understanding is that the Allayi were the dominant intelligent species on Auriga before Endless arrived.

Then Endless told Allayi to fuck off, nearly eradicated them, then started uplifting shit left and right, which is where the Drakken started.

Drakken at that point thought they were the first because the Allayi were almost extinct and had gone into hiding.

their methods of 'fixing' it involves removing it the AI rebellion completely and and turning it into exactly the same type of shit as the other two crisis called "The Contingency" which is just killbots coming from out of Galaxy with the goal to kill all sentient life and other robots
and they are also recycling the AI rebellion into just being a small mid game event chain like thing that only will affect an individual empire

yeah, its a shame as well
the whole 'at X years Y crisis will come out of nowhere to kill everyone' thing is just boring
I wish all the crisis were more like the AI rebellion where if it happens and gets a foothold its because the player ignored the warning signs and/or didn't prepare for it.
I want the 3 crisis to be caused by player/AI empire neglect, not just timegates that basically say "you should have finished this game by now, here is your punishment"
it annoys me because I like to go full turtle and spend nearly all the game slowly building up and preparing for a series of Wars one after another and the way crisis's work just seem like a fuck you to that playstyle because I will start taking land from people and then the unbidden will suddenly be at my doorstep to say hello

AI crisis is too easy to avoid.
Either just give the toaster's rights and accept the Accord, don't build them or dismantle them on sight.
Alternatively just have full defence armies on all planets with Synth slaves and suffer through the infiltration events until you get to the end.

The Unbidden will never be avoided because fucking Jump Drives. If you don't get them the AI will

What could even cause the swarm? Fucking about with the bio ascension stuff? AI is too incompetent to even take the 2nd perk for any of the three ascension paths. You rarely see the AI take one.
So that leaves it to the player which brings us back to the AI Rebellion scenario where it's too easy to avoid or deal with.

Prethoryn I'm kinda fine with sine they are a extragalactic invaders and whatnot.

Unbidden are wasted potential. Having events that are getting progressively worse as you continue to use jump drives, ending with the full blown crisis will be a hell of a lot better than GALACTIC POWER SURGE.

Say, you start using jump drives, eventually you start getting reports of ships with their crews gone (maybe have the obligatory survivor who has gone mad). All sorts of warnings that something bad is gonna happen. Later on when the invasion is inevitable have stuff like ghostly ships being reported in your systems, people in fringe colonies vanishing without a trace, maybe have a unique Shroud event for the psionic empires the next time they drop by for a visit.
And it's not like this shit is gonna be hard to make. They've got the assets they need, it's just scripting and, oh, right. Paradox. That's too much work for a small family company.

God damn it.

Wish they'd make Sentient AI (and to a lesser extent Administrative AI), Sentient Combat Simulations actually dangerous to research. Like Sentient AI might cause a planet or entire sector to slowly rebel, where the organic population is killed off by every auto-door and toaster on the planet. Where Sentient Combat AI might cause a fleet to rebel and the only defense would be to use basic computers in ships.

That xenomorph cavalry might have a chance to escape control or genemoded supersoldiers decide that they should be the ones in charge.
>>
>>182965602
yeah the whole thing definitely needed some Tweaking but Wiz took the lazy approach of solving it, instead of fixing it he just decided to turn it into the others.
But here is what I would do with the 3 different Crisis

AI rebellion
>more implied behind the scene shit with lots of timed special projects popping up, the more that you don't complete the harder you will have of putting the rebellion down
>have the special projects just be shit like finding rogue robots building colonys on uninhabitable planets and stuff like that
>basically make the AI rebellion something you have to search and hund down for and exterminate
Prethoryn scourge
>one of two things
>Either keep them as the out of nowhere crisis and the ONLY one that can seemingly come out of nowhere
>or make it so that at first a fuckhuge 'scouting' fleet will wander the Galaxy for an amount of time before fucking off and if it isn't destroyed before then a few years later they would come in full force and crisis begins
Unbidden
>have it be an escalating type thing directly connected with the amount of Jump drives and how much they are being used
>at first occasionally it might cause a single smallish stack of unbidden ships to appear somewhere in the galaxy
>the stacks would start small at something like maybe 10-20K and slowly build up to the usual 70+ which would indicate that they are about to arrive
>when they do arrive it carries on like it does now
>multiple different factions of unbidden appearing at once would be more of common

Sword of the Stars had a decent AI rebellion. Once you researched enough AI techs you had a small chance every turn to trigger an AI revolt, dependent on both how much AI tech you've researched and how extensively you're using AI. When it did happen, the AI would seize a number of colonies, would not only begin constructing its own armadas but would also seize control of any ships that you installed with an AI control module, and would generally fuck the entire galaxy up unless someone overpowered it or you managed to develop a limited kill switch.
>>
>>182963339
Except AI Rebellion is still in, they just didn't feel that it was ever as good as the other endgame crisis so the entire thing has been made a mid-game event that can happen, and you're getting the contingency in addition as a true endgame crisis involving AI>

Force your borders to envelop it by building a million frontier outposts as close as possible to it, and then once you have one in the system itself delete them all.

Or integrate, there are no other vanilla options.

And whats to say it won't be someone like Mali again. No one complained about the Zulu in V and they're only relevant because of a Michael Caine film about a battle they lost.

There's also other changes not mentioned in the mod release notes. In addition to Vodyani hero Infallible Authority nerf (removed "per hero level" modifier), Guardian hero skill Vox Populi (+40/80% Industry on system) got its effect halved (+20/40% Industry) as well.

Second stellaris game:
>Jingoistic reclaimers next to my border
>Benevolent interventionists on the other side of the galaxy
these two awakaned empires went to war and each essentially owns all the small empires in the galaxy but wait there's more!
>watchful regulators have awakaned too and just declared war on the most powerful (after me) neutral empire
>the unbidden have joined the slam jam too, they seem to be doing their own thing and I estimate their strenght at 160k
My fleet power is about 220k and I almost hit my max naval capacity, but every awakaned empire shows up as "equivalent" fleet power and capacity.
Instead of exceeding my fleet capacity and ruining my economy I've devised a plan of stocking up minerals (56k+527mo) so that in case of war I can put to work my 3 best spacesports to build fleets asap.
I should also mention that I have op soldiers and +7 gene traits, also I'll soon unlock a new ascension and I don't know if I should get the +200 fleet capacity or the one that deals +33% damage to fallen/awakened empire

pls advise

I could begin doing this by leaving the neutral pact and going off on my own, they're all a bunch of scrawny weakling at this point, but only if it'd help the war effort on the long run
Also just found out that the fleet power of the archivers is nearly the same as mine
>>
>>182987810
I'd take fleetcap too.
>>
>>182987810
>I'm getting conflicting messages
Look at it this way;
>+33% damage which only applies to FE/AE fleets
OR
>flat +200 fleet capacity which adds up to more than +33% damage of your current fleet PLUS you can use it against anyone, not just FE/AEs
>>
>>182986616
Fleetcap definitely, that +200 is before modifiers so in due time it will effectively have more than a 33% effect on your damage by virtue of having a fuckton more ships.

Also your game sounds rad as fuck desu, in mine only one FE woke up and the other two died like bitches. This >>182962316 happened too so other than fighting the FE I no longer have anything to threaten me. And this AE is no longer a threat either because I such a big goddamn fleet I can easily take on every other empire in the galaxy banded together in one federation, so I conquered half the galaxy and got enough fleet cap to overtake the AE's fleet.

Now boredom is my only enemy.
