Probably yeah. Stellaris mid-game is extremely dry of content so start doing something like expansion or aiming towards ascension paths. Megastructures aside from basic Voidborne perk are too expensive and take way too long to build to actually be fun so I wouldn't suggest wasting your time on those. The game only kicks into gear again at the end when FEs start awakening and one of the possible crises triggers.

>and how do i compelte the quests like look for X but u have no idea where X is?
Haven't played for a while, but if you're talking about tracking down dead civilization sites or whatever quest you get assigned at the beginning and there's no actual objective marker it just means to play and explore until the game decides to tell you there's new site for you to scan.

>>

The Hunt for the Hycinth bugs out if you explore all the nearby systems before it triggers.

Precursor, click on that tab to expand it to show any outstanding precursor missions you have and "track on map". You'll eventually find 6 of them.
>>
>>183008264

the hell, hasnt the game been out for over a year?

>Precursor
when it expands, it only shows the one ive already completed, and i only found that by randomly going to that star system, which was already explored. maybe its another case of a bug where ive already explored the system
>>
>>183009057
Yeah. I play Commonwealth of Man a lot because I like the whole "lost colony" angle. Quest bugs out if you explore too many planets in the early game, still not fixed in 1.7.2.

1 in 20 anomalies are precursor anomalies, just need to keep exploring, also never trade starcharts because that robs you of anomaly finding chances. Also the game throws precursor anomalies at you if you haven't found one in 20+ years, something like "While doing training exercises on planet X we found precursor artifacts" or "We raided a smuggler base and one of them told us of a precursor base on planet X"
>>
>>183009057
>the hell, hasnt the game been out for over a year?
That's one of the more harmless bugs. The game is still riddled with them and each patch introduces more.

In this patch for me the unbidden portals always become neutral aliens after they build the first dimensional anchor, and they always sit all of their fleets right on top of it with a subspace snare in the middle. It's literally impossible for me to dislodge them because any ships I send to the system are dumped right in the center of ~2 million unbidden fleet power. I've even sent in all 6 million of my own at once and they got instantly vaporized.

Similarly the precursor event is super bugged out, I got the first 5 perfectly fine but for the last 400 years it gives me an event every few decades that places a new artifact on planet _. which doesn't actually spawn anything you can research, or a situation log entry. Every time they fix something they break something even worse.

I've had this bug every time I even got remotely close to finishing a precursor chain.

The diplomatic AI is probably the worst in the series. NPCs routinely declare wars they cannot win (as expected in a Civ game), and then after losing a few units they'll surrender all of their art and money.

Worse yet is that even if you go through the significant effort of keeping NPC civs happy, they'll still attack you. If you do anything to them at all they'll hate you, which I think is to some extent intended in order to give the game more of a grand strategy feel and to penalize domination victories, but it doesn't actually seem to make them more likely to declare war on you so it doesn't matter.

as long as you can get those cold planets early you should be fine for pretty much the whole game, if AIs start getting frisky you just pay them off with shitty token sciences or some strategics you aren't using and push for your goddamn ridiculous science buffs

eventually, once you have enough of a science lead, you just pick one of your neighbors, pay them in technologies to enter an alliance with you, and then sic them on whoever you might be worried about

>>183021365
Migration treaty, UN of Earth of is fanatic egalitarian so xeno can become leaders. 100 years into the game UN of Earth always seems to have been culturally enriched to the point where they always have xeno leaders.
>>
>>183022384
Yeah, Stellaris. I read somewhere that building spaceports with an orbital farm was a good idea to increase the birth rate, but if it's global it doesn't matter where the food comes from.
>>
>>183023569
Originally it was planet based. They changed it so it's global. Orbital arms+solars on every space port isn't a bad idea though.
>>
>>183023569
The main upsides of building an orbital hydroponics in spaceports are two fold:
1 - it doesn't take a pop or planet space to work, and massive food surpluses are mostly unimpressive
2 - it isn't tied to the planet so any food anywhere helps prevent starvation equally.
>>
>>183023942
>>183024174
I see, kinda figured it would be important to have the population in that planet grow faster towards 5 so you can finally make the upgrades. So while I still will do it, I won't give it such a high priority anymore.

It is a good idea. Slightly less good since the 1.5 patch, but still a good idea.
Solar collectors too, +3 energy a month on every planet is a godsend early / early-mid game when you're scrubbing for pocket change.
>>
>>183025798
+50% growth when food production surplus=pop
+100% growth when food surplus=2x pop
+200% growth when food surplus=4x pop
>>
>>183027379
I thought it was a continuum.
Is it really the case that, if I have 150 pops, having 149 food surplus is no different to having 1 food surplus?
>>
>>183025798
As growth rates are MOSTLY a by species thing for the empire the only actual ways to hit 5 pops faster on a specific planet are:

Build Robots (independent growth at fixed rate regardless of pop or food)

Migrate pops around (use influence to micromanage pops for upgrading the shelter sooner)

Build/use planet specific growth/habitability boosters (frontier clinics, terraforming, Visitor's Centers, Consecrate Planet if utopia)

Global food surplus according to: +50% per 1 food surplus per 1 pop.
Having 150 pops and 149 surplus will get 49.66% growth speed.

I naïvely assume that border friction increases as planet occurance decreases, because "the closest planet to our borders" is 20 times further away at x0.25 than at x5, but then on the other hand Wiz is definately too intellectually lazy to realise this and too practically lazy to implement it. The only way you can get other empires to like you in Stellaris is to rival the people they rival. Gifts, no. Unilateral guarantees of military support, no. Nothing else works but shared hatred of third parties.
You basically have to pick a side in every dispute in the galaxy and denounce the other guy.

Its nice calm background music
Usually I 'forget' that it is there because I end up focused too much on the game
The games music is Calming, gentle on the ears and doesn't try to get your attention or distract you
thats why its perfect for the game, you can listen to it loud as fuck yet you don't end up putting too much attention into it

So, 1.8 will let you genetically alter and change the name of a species, right?

So, I could conceivably start out as a species that believes in their self-divinity, then genetically 'uplift' other species so that they have the same traits my species does, and rename them so that they have my species' name?

I've triggered the Reckoning in Stellaris hoping I could see the Galaxy burn and so far I'm disappointed. I don't know if it somehow despawned or if the AI empires somehow killed it despite no one having anything near 300k let alone 1M, but I can't find it anywhere. The shroud fragments/creatures don't even swarm around the galaxy reeking havok they just sit on top of my former planets waiting to get picked off when I eventually rebuild. AI rebellion at least had more flavor this is just ominous build up to a nothing "crisis"

Is the game bugging out or is the Reckoning actually this gay?
>>

How? I went synth checked everywhere and can't find squat on how the fuck to do it.

>>
>>183065621
There seems to be something wrong with enemy aggression all over the game at the moment. In my current one half the third-party wars go to White Peace because the AI never moves its ships.
My expectation is that the Reckoning will be somewhere in the galaxy but it'll just be sat over a planet doing nothing.
>>
>>183065492

Vodyani getting more law changes
>* Change the vodyani version of Species Stability to something that actually helps rough starts, instead of helping already snowbally starts. +20 tribute on systems would be good, since that would guarantee the first extra population in about the same time as other races get their first colony finished (at the cost of some influence).
>You’re right! I added a flat value of +15 on systems, and kept the +2 per pop.

>With the mod active, Vodyani no longer has access to the tier 4 religous law Peace and Prayer Act. Not that it is any useful anyway, but something probably went wrong there
>We replaced the law by an Vodyani variant but it cannot work without gameplay code; that's why it's not in the mod. The law will immune Ark to pacific conversion and provide Essence per systems under Vodyani influence..

>The ecologist laws still don't make much sense for Horatio (the only ecologist empire) since they encourage racial diversity and ultimately Horatio wants to be a one race (person) empire.

>>
>>183071715
It's a little trickier than that since the borders push out and up against other borders to determine how far they go. Outposts in the middle of your territory also have a contributing effect to pushing your borders outwards as well. If you're still in the early game it may well be that deleting even what seems like a useless outpost may lose you a swath of lucrative systems on the edge of your border. Then again, you could just rebuild the outpost on the border to reclaim them, or build it then immediately delete the old one, if you can spare the minerals.

Otherwise testing it then reloading the save is the quickest way to check.

When some nearby space aliens brutally murder billions of other space aliens it's understandably natural to fear that they'd do the same to you.

The way they've chosen to represent it ingame is completely illogical and disproportionate to the point of making it an unplayable feature, though. Fanatic purifiers shouldn't be just as horrified of you as xenophiles are when you're basically doing their job for them, and since the malus is massive and applied to every single regular empire in the galaxy it always makes them band together against you without exception regardless of any other concerns, effectively rendering all other diplomatic opinions pointless as a feature when Genocidal simply overrides them all.

Yeah, strike craft were supposed to be in the game by "full" release but were cut due to time constraints. If you were there for initial launch the game was in a very rough state in general and still kind of is, hence the number of negative reviews. Definitely a rushed release from early access.

They're supposedly adding them in a free update at later point. I can't find the exact dev post but I think they said by the end of summer.

I love doing it to Spiritualist Fallen empires after they become horrified after what I did, to them it would be a fate worse than death

I just wish there was other ways to properly RP being a megadick to the other Fallen empires
Like If I go genetic engineering I can turn the Militarists into the weakest most physically pathetic Race in the universe and with Xenophiles I can just neuter them
Only way I could think of for Xenophobes is if I were to find a mod or something that let you somehow change a species portrait into others, then I could turn them into physically my species

When waging war, captured cities are hit with two happiness penalties: first for being conquered that goes away after a while (it's faster if your tourism is influential with the conquered enemy) and the second penalty for having an *annexed* city without a Courthouse. Not to mention you'll also be hit with regular happiness penalties from simply owning more cities and population. In the end it's a matter of whether you can take the big happiness penalty.

Also to note is that annexed and all other cities you own increase the cost of social policies, but puppeted cities don't.

Because the choices you should make are too obvious after you know the tech tree well enough and there's no superficial feature like hex grid maneuvering to distract you from the monotony. Watching your empire grow is only satisfying if you have large influence, and even then they're just number on a screen so you don't have a real sense of building a thriving empire. You kind of have to make it fun by really challenging yourself to to hard things.
>>
>>183104269
because space 4x is inherently inferior to ground-based 4x
>>
>>183107000
Theres just something so disconnected about the experience, you're looking at dots at the ends of lines on a map and occasional clicking a bit of concept art to build something. The techs always end up hard to associate with too, with a ground based RTS its easy to go "ahh gunpowder, I can imagine this" its harder to go "ahh neural quantum realignment reactors, I can imagine this"

You should only ever annex cities that have a large production base. Not just to get a courthouse quickly, but because income/science/culture is already given to you so the only thing you get out of annexing is control over what it's building. There are some exceptions to this; if you're going the 'multiple religious buildings + order' route, cities can end up being happiness neutral regardless. But other than that there's little reason not to keep them puppeted.

how do i make es2 enjoyable? the combat i still dont understand how the phases and ranges work all that well. Like i cant get my plasma cutter niggers to be point blank on warp in sometimes, while other times they are.

The trading companies are neat concept, but how close should they be to their subsidiary? so many questions!
>>

>>
>>183112239
>phases
Every battle has 3 phases that are equally long, unless the opposite force gets completely annihilated in earlier phases in which case the battle concludes there.

>ranges
The tactic card you choose is your flotillas' range *intention*, and the actual ranges are also modified by your opponent's choices. You can see your opponent's chosen card for each battle as well, right? Flotillas always try to advance to their range intention set by the tactic card: first phase of the battle always starts from the longer range flotilla's position and advances to shorter range each phase until the shorter range flotilla's range *intention* is met.

F.ex. one flotilla vs. one flotilla's ranges in each phase dictated by chosen cards
Long vs. Long = Long, Long, Long (because both sides have long range *intention* for the flotilla)
Long vs. Medium = Long, Medium, Medium (advances to shorter range in second phase and stays there because it's the opponent's range *intention*)
Long vs. Short = Long, Medium, Short (advances each phase)
Medium vs. Medium = Medium, Medium, Medium (same range intention)
Medium vs. Short = Medium, Short, Short (starts at medium because it's longer range intention and advances to short in next phase)
etc.

Flotillas *always* fire to their opposite enemy flotillas first until they're destroyed, then they shift to firing other surviving enemy flotillas. Attacks made this way always count as Long range no matter the flotilla's actual range intention.

>Like i cant get my plasma cutter niggers to be point blank
If you're talking about beams, they're extremely situational. Despite their massive firepower they can only fire from Short range and as such they're easily countered by the enemy simply picking Long range intentions because then your ships to have spend 2/3 of the entire fight advancing before being able to fire, as per the Long vs. Short example above. Would suggest sticking to basic weapons first.

your guys should naturally migrate to the planet. the conquered people just count as farms, untill they die AFAIK.

very badly, make sure you check all the boxes in sector settings except "build military bases"
>Do i just choose some that i've been able to fill out with buildings and add them to a sector?
thats what i do. get a good base down then add it to the sector. then move to the new planets and manage them to a decent spot to add to the secotr in turn.
>>
>>183130467
> Do i just need to send a colony ship full of my guys to each planet so they eat them faster or what?
The presence of your pops will do nothing to hasten the processing, no. The 10 years thing is a hard limit.
However, you SHOULD send some of your pops to the bird planets for a different reason: once all the birds are kill, if there's no pops on the planet at all it won't be considered "yours" and will just become an uncolonized planet again. So put at least one of your doods there using the "Resettle Pops" function.

As for sectors - yes, sectors will fuck your planets up, the AI has been broken since launch a d Paradox shows no sign of having the capability to fix it. Here's how you minimize the damage:
On sector settings, tick Balanced economy, Respect Tile Resources ON, Space Construction ON, Redevelop Tiles OFF.
Then, before placing any planet in a sector, put the appropriate Lv1 buildings you want on every tile. Don't leave the AI with any decisions to make, because it will usually make it wrong.

Usually they will accept peace on first contact. The Diplo in the game is kind of weird to say the least. Stellaris unfortunately has many, many mechanics (army modules, megastructures, species rights, different species as a whole, happiness, edicts, government reform - ones just off the top of my head) which are just a waste of time and money, existing only as RP fluff. And sadly for new players they serve as confusing red herrings because only practice really teaches you which mechanics are actually of any practical use.
Megastructures are exclusively prestige meme projects for when you get to the endgame and your economy explodes to the extent you literally have no other way to spend your money.

Technically true, but largely irrelevant, because the actual strength of armies is irrelevant (a sick kitten can take a planet when it's been bombarded to 0), time to build armies doesn't matter (because Stellaris is a boring game of waiting of permanently waiting for truce timers to end so time is a resource you have in abundance), and the most important one: the UI is atrocious to the point that moduling lots of armies is practically impossible, and the very slight gain that modules provide is nowhere near worth the clickspam shittery you have to employ to equip them.

If you read the 2016 pre-release dev diaries it becomes clear that sectors were *supposed* to be like rebellious vassals in other Paradox games... they develop like autonomous regions inside your empire, with ethics that start to diverge away from your core systems due to distance, and eventually they'd start to rebel... thereby giving you something to do.
But then Paradox realised they were too lazy or incompetent to make sector-targeted emigration, ethics, or unrest work properly, so the way it's balanced at the moment is that sectors are just annoying incompetent fun-sinks rather than the *intended* rich mechanic of internal politics and breakaway regional governates, where keeping them in line actually gave you something to do in mid and late game.

When you understand their design history it becomes more tragic, that something which could've been so good ended up so bad.
>>
>>183134290
Yeah what is up with army modules? I don't think they're even good for RP fluff. It's like they just want more things to click on, and since the game is technically a "strategy game" it makes you feel like you're making a choice when it's basically just Cookie Clicker, the Space Strategy Game.

Including fighters actually makes fleets *less* combat effective in some cases, because their super-long range means combat speeds kick in earlier, your fleet stratifies as your corvettes and cruusers rush forwards, and so rather than arriving in range of the enemy X weapons in one big glut they arrive stratified by ship type, meaning there's fewer targets at once and they can be picked off easier.

You own whatever you built before the space became contested, but nobody can build or colonize new shit. All 3 fleets have access.
In 1.1 it was bugged so all fleets full stop had access and your fleet would get trapped in third party contested space bubbles at the end of many wars. I think this is one of the few bugs that actually has been fixed.

Watching the diplomatic landscape like a hawk to find your chance is one of the few skillful or interesting parts of the game.
Or it would be if the diplomatic landscape didn't move at the speed of a glacier, but you can at least try to exercise skill.
Look out for shitty minor empires that are being "guatantee independence"-d by just one big empire. When you DoW the small one, only its defensive pacts trigger, not those of its sugar daddy.
At the extreme of diplomatic gaming it can be useful in endgame to release swarms of worlds as independent 1-planet empires, just to bait your enemies into picking one up so you can then attack them.
Which is ridiculous, but it's how the game works.
>>
>>183148519
This time it is different though. There are 4 independent empire excluding me in the galaxy, and all of them have defensive pacts with each other. Yes, I mean all. This is the correct way to earlygame Stellaris.
Suk ayy dik until some big guy def pacts you, then never spend a single mineral on ships until the lategame post-scarcity economic rampage.
Which will come earlier for you than everyone else, 'cos you don't have to build a fleet.

(The strategy falls down if soneone actually does DoW despite the pact though, because the AI is retarded and won't come to help you. The pact is useful exclusively as a deterrant. But that's often enough)

Your best bet is to address the cause rather than the faction.
For example do you have egalitarians but don't want them?
Reduce living standards and reform from a democracy to an autocracy.

The reverse of this is to make the faction you want far more popular than the ones you don't want. Best way to do this is through democracies where you can make sure the faction's leader gets elected.

No your BEST bet is to ignore factions completly because happiness' effect on your net productivity is negligable.
It's kinda sad. There's lots of cool functionality in factions since 1.5 but it's all for nothing because nobody ever revolts from unhappiness and the productivity bonuses you get from happiness are massively worse than the bonuses you'd get from putting everyone on starvation rations, building a big fleet with the saved consumer goods, and anne ing some ayys to steal their productivity.

As has been the case in Stellaris since day 1, the only thing that matters in the game is the size of your doomstack. From that, all other incomes flow.
>>
>>183155574
>implying it isn't dirt easy to max out traditions and useful tech mid game
>implying it needs to be easy

Ring worlds are cool looking and largely impractical as all hell by the time you are able to build them and sink enough resources/time into finishing one nothing can stop you and you're just doing it for vanity. Having a few of them is a victory enough for most runs.

Also on the off chance that it matters it being 4 planets means 4 space ports which means faster fleet building which is the only thing that matters if somehow something is threatening you late game.
>>
>>183157398

You use factions for influence

>Be F. Spiritualist
>Have a massive elated Spiritualist faction
>I'm constantly swimming in influence despite tonnes of defensive pacts and outposts

You can also use them to swap ethos
>>
>>183157279
*ADDENDUM: Factions are useful for influence farming, because they're the only reliable way you can get blurple. But the happiness and % support factors are irrelevant, which means there is never a reason to suppress.
(I actually change government and embrace factions quite often for RP reasons, which does require support %, but I am well aware that in practical gameplay terms this is equivalent to shooting myself in the dick)

There should be, at least for Authoritarian Empires, the option to limit the growth of pops on tiles based on the type of tile.

Let us build titans already, paradicks.

Shroud avatar doesn't count because it is locked to a single special snowflake ascension path and never have I seen it survive a proper fleet engagement since it gets focus fired and killed instantly.

Actually, each ascension path having its own unique class of titan would be cool from both a gameplay and RP perspective (notwithstanding the AI being utterly incapable of ever picking the finisher perk anyway). More than anything it needs to be customizable with its own unique set of powerful modules because by the time you can get a shroud avatar it can easily be picked off by any typical fleet thanks to research creep.

In ES2 it is pretty simple.
You either have long, middle and short range weapons, with two types of damage, cinetic and energy.
You then have two types of protections to defend yourself against those attacks.

From this, you will design your ship in a way which will give you the upper hand against your ennemy.
The ennemy has long range missiles ? Just put some plates on your ships and give them beams so they can get close and shred them.

I'd like someone to explain those principles to me for EL tho. I'm replaying it after a long time, and I realized I never fully understood it.

Start by reading this. It explains the difference between infantry and, say, cavalry.

Aside from that your primary choice is weapon, trinkets and strategics. Weapon and trinkets bestow additional qualities, that are for the most part self explanatory. For example swords are better against infantry, shields give ranged defense and block, spears shred cavlry, etc. Strategics are simply stat boosts in certain areas consistently across item types, excluding trinkets. Titanium for example gives good health boosts allowing early units to better trade blows, while Hyperium gives you an initiative edge allowing your ranged or circle atttacks to go first to maximise their effectiveness.

Does the AI ever actually trigger The End event?

I think it'd be a really cool crisis for some massive empire to have happen so that the player has something to do towards the end game.
>>
>>183181730
If your human opponent decides for whatever reason to mass bombers in their fleet and your own PD isn't enough.

Otherwise the AI is too stupid to even use bombers or fighters or PD so while you can easily wipe them with massed bombers yourself, you could also do the same but probably faster with massed kinetic artillery.
>>
>>183181921
They can't even trigger the final ascension let alone simultaneously RNG up The End.

But it would be sick if they could. Paradox could even make it a full blown crisis too rather than a literal "kill everyone in this galaxy lol" meme button.
>>
>>183181921
AI picks the perks at random

>>
>>183177234
>How essential is conquest especially at higher difficulties?
Pretty much non-existent in the current state of the game. You can easily win the game on Endless difficulty without ever building military ships or researching military techs.

The AI is retarded and can be bribed at the first turn of war that they started with a handful of strategic and luxury resources for easy truce even if they have doomstacks looming over your systems right now and they won't declare war again even if they're militarists who literally get free war declaration. The AI can't purposefully pursue any non-militaristic victory conditions (science, economy, wonder) either or optimize their systems as good as the player, so even if their cheat resource bonuses make them powerhouses at the beginning a player can easily outdo them without waging any war to slow them down. You will probably get few warnings about Cravers or the Lumeris approaching economic victory, but provided you yourself invested on trade routes or any other victory type they can be safely ignored. The AI isn't intelligent enough to try stopping your own non-military victory conditions either.
>>
>>183154897
Many things are missing, but many things are also simply broken. There's a ship class called carrier, but it doesn't carry anything. Diplomacy is too bare-bones, might as well be missing. AI is missing most of the time, but that's common. There's a whole faction that's so OP it's basically broken, although it seems it's getting fixed soon. Horatio is apparently broken too, but I never play as that faggot, so I can't confirm that myself. Also beam weapons are useless and at this point exist only so that the dumb AI would put them on his ships rendering them helpless and basically broken. I would say the academy quest is also broken, but people tend to differ on that one, since you can actually complete it, it just takes forever and serves as nothing but annoyance during the time it's active.

>pretty "complete" for a base game with no expansion
It might be complete enough for you though. It seems you're already broken by this industry yourself.

Academy quest actually works now (unlike during first few weeks after release lol), but it's definitely unfinished as well and the current rewards are so minuscule and non-existent that they're clearly placeholders, despite the Academy quest being the fucking main plot of the game. The devs on the forums even said they're planning on expanding it in some way from both gameplay and narrative perspective. Considering the game shipped from early access without planned strike craft and how horribly buggy the game was during the first few weeks it's clear it was rushed by the publisher.

At least they're continuously improving the game post-release instead of just abandoning it, but there's so much to change and improve that should've been dealt with during early access. The game is definitely playable and your first few matches will probably feel like complete experiences assuming you won't hit any of the game breaking bugs (thankfully they're less numerous than before), but after a while you'll start noticing all the big gameplay shortcomings and missing bits that the devs themselves have also talked about and want to fix.
>>
>>183172942
...this would actually solve a lot of problems.
Keep tiles free to provide somewhere for displace-os to go, and make traits actually matter because it reserves your power plants for your thrifty species and your mines for your industrious species and your farms for your agrarian species and your research for your intelligent species, rather than jist jumbling them all up at random so the trait only applies 1/4 of the time.

Although then you quickly run into the "problem" that a pop without thrifty on a power plant is still better than no pop at all on a power plant, so is it really worth docking yourself 100% income now (while you await the correct pop growth) to get 115% income later? Probably not.

Are you sure you aren't mixing lasers with beams? Lasers are good and can fire from all ranges, beams are the Short-range *only* weapons that deal massive damage but can't fire from any other range, meaning if the opponent picks Long range cards your beams will be completely useless for 2/3 of the entire fight.

>I know its supposed to be the main plot but its just too scattered, it doesn't tie into faction quests and by the time it gets going the game is almost over.
Yeah, in its current state the Academy final quest is completely retarded plot wise. None of the major factions aside from the Unfallen have any reason whatsoever to side with Isyander. Fuck, they went out of their way to have alternate ending narrations for each faction if you side with him then win the actual game and some of them, for example Riftborn and Craver narrations outright say "lol we don't care about the gods that WE helped resurrect for no promised return".

The whole supposed genocide thing is also communicated really badly: the release Pathfinder trailer talks about resetting and purging the corrupted souls of galaxy while returning Dust to the Lost, but it's not communicated in any way in the actual in-game quest nor does it have any gameplay impact. At least they're supposedly working on making the quest actually complete, but it's still ridiculous how the main plot of the game isn't actually finished by release.

What if there was a "setup time" at the beginning of every game where for 5-10 turns you can move your settler around to look for a good initial city spot, and the turn counter doesn't start (ie nothing is collected, researched, or built) until the setup turns are done?

Nope, not only can you not remove it without extremely lucky rng rolls, but a random 10% of of your entire empire will now join the faction regardless of their species/planet/location in a few years and there is absolutely nothing you can do about it.
>>
>>183219410
>there is absolutely nothing you can do about it
Nerve stapling disallows pops from joining factions.
>>
>>183219857
You can only nerve staple entire species which is irrelevant since the faction system makes a % of your empire join the faction regardless of species.

Deviants trait and encourage free thought are as a result without penalty. Any tech/edict/trait that counters divergence is useless since a faction merely existing will forever force x % of your empire to it regardless of divergence.

The best you can do is savescum if a shitty faction spawns or even better just ignore the faction system altogether.

Finally at the mid-end game area where resources don't really matter and I have pretty much all of the techs done.

I've been using plasma up to this point, and now I have questions

>Is the giga cannon worth it on my battleships?

>What should I put kinetic artillery on, if anything?

>What's a good setup to fight AI empires that have a mix of shields and armour?
>>
>>183226813
What I do is put a giga cannon on every battleship and fill every other slot with kinetic artillery. Then I build battleships until my economy can't support any more. A fleet built purely out of long range kinetic battleships will destroy almost any threat before it even gets into firing range, you just have to be careful about warp angles so you don't drop your fleet on top of the enemy.
>>
>>183226813
>is the giga cannon worth it
Not really X. Two kinetic artillery are better although not by much.
>what should I put kinetic artillery on
Battleships in every slot and destroyers in their L slot
>what's a good setup to fight AI empires that have a mix of shields and armor
KA battleships and M plasma cruisers. Technically you don't even need the battleships and could just go with the cruisers alone but where's the fun in that.

naked corvettes spam is more efficient than any of what I typed above though so if you're a cheese abusing faggot who doesn't want to wave his big imperial dick over his foes with battleships then go right ahead and spam those.
>>
>>183228431
>not really X
How'd the rest of that line get cut off, oh well. Not really X slots are kinda shitty, they have limited firing arcs and their dps isn't twice the dps of the two KA it's replacing so that is always going to result in more firepower
>>
>>183228591
They're good for the extra range though. A fleet armed with gigas can kill many enemy ships before they even enter kinetic artillery range.

Early game is a crapshoot because the AI gets resource bonuses to compensate for its inability to into strategy, and these are more useful early game.

Wormhole is best, followed by warp. Hyperlane is a shitshow.

Honestly BE's biggest problem is the victory conditions. The game has no sense of pacing and you just kind of wander around the tech tree until you meet the requirements for one of the conditions, then the game ends just as warfare, satellite teraforming, and espionage become good. For the few mechanics it has relative to civ 5, it outclasses it.

>Honestly BE's biggest problem is the victory conditions.
I kind of agree that a massive problem is that victory comes too fast, but I think this is fundamentally the fault of the tech web.

Everyone always beelines affinity techs because that's how you win, and it ends up that loads of the techs and units never get researched by anyone (has anyone even SEEN a Rocktopus?), and the game ends on like turn 300, instead of turn 500 like Civ used to. So you get what is *supposed* to be a hypertech victory on a super-developed post-scarcity metropolis world, when in fact the map's barely been settled so there are huge gaps of untouched unexploited land between each city - which also have huge blocs of unexploited land because improvements take so fucking long to build.

The game pace is all wrong. And I think the game pace would be less wrong if it was a mostly linear tech tree like normal Civ V.

>>
>>183257263
The only con I can think of is that wars can be much more tricky. Faster tech and lower costs means that armies modernize more quickly during a war- this is in the deffender's advantage because you can only upgrade in your borders. Additionally cities can pump out units much faster to counter an invasion force - and since the pacing of combat is the same this can quickly lead to stalemate. With that in mind the game is still very playable on quick.

>I REQUIRE AN ANSWER TOO

It's a planet with an existing population of pre-sentients or natives or whatever the fuck it is now.

By invading such a planet you colonise it and annex the pops, which is why it has an influence cost. I'm guessing Wiz never thought about the situation and programming for it. It'd be cool to have events for something like this, with badass space marines dropping in to save the day from the scourge, and see what the reaction is like.

If it was a near modern primitives they could be like "fuck yeah can we join your empire" or something, if they were stone age they would worship you, cool shit like that.

I for one always enjoy seeing meme pyramids pop up. They should also be buffed.

If it's to conquer a primitive planet, yeah. Just like colonising that planet would if it was uninhabited.

It's more fun to fight your way to the top than have it be guaranteed.

If all else fails go naval and escape your shitty continent to become groß.

To be honest I can get over tile sizes.
The whole moon scenario is just aesthetics so it's not like trying to get that how I like it affects anything.
