I understand his gripe. SR is unconventional for a strategy game in that there's no clear cause and effect. For example, in Total War, you can look at nearby provinces and pick which to take based on population size, buildings, natural resources and owner strength (which is predictable by both their territory size and an explicit estimate). If you can scout an army stack, again, you know their strength. Even the causes for their behavior are often spelled out ("they dislike us because slaves! -10" ). Playing strategy is usually about formulating a good plan with all that provided information.

In SR on the other hand you know very little. What territory to take? Rewards for seemingly similar in difficulty and size opponents can range from giving you the strongest unit in the game to crap to outright punishment. Even the possible actions you can take are unclear, you usually have a couple dungeons plus botan hunt plus some weirder events available and it's a mystery what you get for many of these things.

I've learned to appreciate some mystery and some unknown factors in my strategy games, finding stuff out by testing is fun, but SR is basically made of that stuff. In a typical strategy, an optimal run would involve figuring out very good general battle tactics, very good money management or whatever, and a rough plan of what direction to move in/what factions to tackle. In SR optimal point runs, that takes a backseat to chaining arbitrary autowin/autolose and other events.

SR is really fun if you approach it as an roleplaying game and pretending you're Rance even gives good outcomes. AS somehow made an RPG with a TBS interface.

Hey guys! I haven't played an Alicesoft game since Kichikuou a couple of years ago, and I wanted to pick up BBA again but I have a couple of questions that I think the wiki doesn't explain in a way I can understand it -

So I only play BP to characters during the PAY phase every couple turns? Or do I pay BP to deploy a character to a region every single time? Also, is there any way to determine which characters have stars that I can clear in the conversation phase, or is it random (and I have to consult a walkthrough)? Lastly, it's not advisable to recruit every single non-generic, right? Like that's what I did in my first few playthroughs and I don't think it worked out that well.

I was going to mention that her voice doesn't sound all devil like, but I guess since she was a Kalar, she probably sounds almost the same as a regular Kalar, which in turn probably sounds a lot like a human. Not sure if Hunty sounds like a human considering she predates them.

I have to wonder who is buying it at this point on non-sale days. Pretty much every time that MG isn't on a sale, Rance rises back up. People say that the bulk of Japan's sales are based of the preorders and first few weeks. It seems to be the opposite in the West when anything sex heavy is involved. The bulk of the sales is probably on the preorders and first few weeks too for the English side, it's just that gameplay eroges like Rance subvert it because it's easy to bring in more people than the regular crowd.

It can be seen with other gameplay titles like Haruka or Boob Wars and the like. Even those that marginally have some form of gameplay can do relatively well. Maybe not after Rance comes out and raises the standard though.

Just like before it's release in Japan, Daiteikoku is overhyped in the West. Releasing it could cause a similar effect of people losing trust in the Alicesoft/MG brand of gameplay eroge.

Although if Alicesoft says no, Mangagamer can't really force them to do anything. They can try to convince them, but Aru doesn't seem interested in doing in and neither is anyone else.

Evenicle is the most popular non-Rance Alicesoft game in that poll, so with the policy of alternating Rance games it seems to be the perfect choice.

As for Evenicle, it actually makes sense that they'd release that next considering they released another Rance title less than two months before the poll results and if they translate Evenicle, that will free up a spot on the chart for a non-Alicesoft title. The problem with Daiakuji is that it's just way too old. 5D and VI was pushing it and even then they wanted to upgrade VI so it could stand up in this modern time.

The oldest announced VN aside from Rance is Damekoi at 2007, so Daiakuji is a bit too old.
