You can always retreat and abandon quests, try it out for yourself. Not having a healer Vestal gives you a slot for control or damage. But I do like having someone who can get people off death's door though. Generally an Occultist is fine.

Alright, I'm at a complete loss at this point: how do you add +resistances (bleed, blight, etc) to a skill? I'm trying to create a party buff (think Bolster or Battle Ballad) that gives resistance to stun and move effects and nothing works. No guide specifies how to do this and copying skills like Solemnity or Flare isn't working as intended and just giving me those buffs on this new ability.

The religious restriction thing was poorly implemented because the autistic furfag backer wanted it that way, which added an unnecessary layer of complexity that would've been to complicated to implement fully. If anything, the hellion should also be faithless by default, since she literally has a camping skill to reject the gods, thus shouldn't be able to pray or flagellate at the abbey. Religious heroes also don't have an issue with her beyond getting slightly stressed at her blasphemy, in a setting based off an era where you could be arrested and tortured by the church for such acts. Neither do they have a problem with the occultist summoning tentacles from the abyss and using dark rituals to their benefit

Occ's actually worst at the beginning, when your mooks can't auto-resist the bleed and you probably don't have trinkets to really make him shine. I've always used Occ as a mainhealer, with much better auxiliary utility than the other healers, on champ runs.

A thing I've been wondering about the plot. Are all heroes supposed to be heirs to the ancestor? Or is the player an actual entity in the form of omnipresent nameless/faceless xcom type commander.

It's ambiguous as to how the ancestor and heir are related, and with the time loop theory it's even more confusing as to who exactly the ancestor and heir are.

Either way, the populace somehow found out about the ancestor's heretical doings and tried to go pitchforks and torches on him. That's when he hired the bandits to terrorize them and make them shut up, allowing him to continue his mad experiments and excavation unopposed and undisturbed until his breakdown and suicide.

The hamlet's citizens probably don't even dare to look in the estate's general direction after all the shit that happened there.

It's a shame because Leper and Abom could have an interesting kind of camaraderie, but that's denied by the backer's preference and the fact that quirks aren't fleshed out enough despite being the game's main gimmick.

It's not that it's actually the strongest comp possible; it's fun because you can get a good mix of straight damage and bleed though. For the hag fight it is seriously quite good though; no matter who gets thrown into the pot, you will still have a hellion up front who can Iron Swan, and whoever is in the rank behind can hit with If It Bleeds. Both skills generally do more damage than something like a GR knife throw or HWM pistol shot, and 3x hellion is less susceptible to being thrown out of position than a marking party with an arbalest would be.

Her accuracy values on her damage skills seem the same as the values of other frontliners. Crusader and MaA are equivalent to Hellion with the 85-105 (depending on scaling) accuracy on the basic attack skill. The leper is lower and the flagellant is higher, but the hellion's accuracy seems squarely average.

Don't do it; you can definitely adapt to those skivers. I may dread them the most, but all told, I still don't worry about them -that- much anymore. Make sure you bring a party that can hit the back ranks hard; his stun and move resist aren't the highest, but they're still considerable. Mark and bleeds can work fairly well against him, though he will often resist your attempts to debuff him (unless you have debuff% trinkets). Just make sure to focus everything you've got on him from the outset; don't try to kill the softer targets first like you normally would. In champion level dungeons, the odds are too great that one of those softer targets dodges your attack, meaning that you will spend longer trying to clear out those minor threats before you ever get to the skiver. So hit the skiver as hard as you can from the start; his dodge is fairly high too, but you'll just have to deal with that, and commit everything to killing him asap.

His complaints are mostly valid, the biggest detractor is the part where he just doesn't like turn based systems as a whole, so if that's a part you chime with you will not like this game.

Besides that, his complaints about the grind are valid and RNG is sort of a flipside thing for me at least. I don't mind random crits from enemies because I've ever ability to get it like them. Without a certain level of randomness I think the game's just too monotonous.

It's a game you like despite its flaws, not because it's flawless. For most of the people it clicks with it's the former, but it's pretty easy to go into the latter. Pirate the GOG version the game isn't on sale anyways

There's probably several trade routes of general supplies, the caretaker's wagon is only specialized for provisions of dungeon exploring materials and there's also supposedly a shipping dock for the Hamlet so they can take in goods from the waters.
Prostitutes end up travelling to the Hamlet same way as heroes do and probably end up as regulars so there's no need to constantly have new prostitutes.
Discarded heroes wind up back onto a constant rotation of transportation wagons which travels to different estates so they can continue their work.
That's just a rough idea of what it's like.

Are you sure it isn't because you have the Raven Fiend abom skin downloaded from the workshop? The author made a recent update which, along with the skin, also makes some class changes, including making Rake target three ranks instead of two. If you're using that mod through steam, those class tweaks would have been applied automatically. Personally I don't like the idea of bundling class changes with a skin, but you can always disable them manually.

tracking shot is really good on long fights now, since it lasts for the whole encounter. his bleed has been buffed with a -spd debuff recently, so it's pretty decent. lastly, his CC trinkets are top tier. i'm running him a lot more often after CC patch (i barely used him before this), with wicked slice or open vein (depending on dungeon), DA, tracking shot, PBS.

as for flagman, he is indeed suboptimal in the cove/ruins, but he melts everything outside of these 2 dungeons. give him either suffer or reclaim, to have more control over his hp (as opposed to relying on mobs to hit him), and whip everything into submission. i'd advise you to experiment with his skill combinations tho, all of them are useful.

I highly recommend doing cove to start your champion experience. It's generally the safest one at that difficulty, both in enemy selection and the bosses.
Just be wary about those swordfishmen. I would bring a PD and an Occultist every time to clear the backline.

You know you can drink holy water if you are infected right? Just use any loot you find, put the holy water in the loot screen and right click it.
