Looks great and they didn't fuck up the faces like FFX, redone soundtrack is great, gameplay improvements (namely the zodiac job system now supporting two jobs per character) seem great. 4x gameplay speed will be nice for grinding or running through large areas, I'd love that option in a DA:O remaster... A+ work so far.

Where did you read that again? Andraste and Maferath's army had conquered Southern Tevinter. Maferath, after growing jealous of Andraste's acclaim and seeing how hard it would be to capture Northern Tevinter, went to Minrathous to speak with the Archon. The Archon and Maferath arranged a truce, he would give Andraste to him in exchange for peace (letting Maferath keep Southern Tevinter). He led Andraste to an ambush set up by the Archon's men, and that is how she was captured.

So far as we are aware, both the Old Gods and Elven Pantheon are imprisoned (with the exception of mythal, who was murdered before the imprisonment occurred). This rules out those possibilities. Mythals vessel would also be unlikely, as Mythal seems to have hand picked Flemeth. A weird possession similar to Anders's situation would not go unnoticed and unrecorded. None of these are really viable options.

The powerful mage theory has potential, but then Bioware would be leaning way to heavily on the "all influential people from the past were actually mages" trope.

I would argue that Andraste, if not a normal woman, was something else entirely.

Perhaps she was someone like Calenhad, who augmented his power with great dragon blood?

Also, the crowns and taste and mythal wear aren't really that similar. Andraste's was gold, encircled her entire head, and bore a sort of rising sun emblem. The crown Flemeth wears is made of a dark gray metal, covers her forehead and descends down to her cheeks to encompass her upper face, and is studded with sharp points.

I know Andraste was born the same year Dumat was killed, but there is much more than that. Andraste had a half-sister named Halliserre (unknown mother and Andraste's Father), who was apparently connected with the Old Gods. One day during her childhood Andraste saw Halliserre running into a forest and she chased after her. An explosion occurred in the forest and everything was burning. Andraste was found shocked and was uncertain of what happened. Halliserre's dead body was found covered with wounds as though a ritual was performed.

Andraste started acting weirdly ever since Halliserre's death: she would report of strange voices from a lost memory, she would become still for long periods of time, unable to move, strange noises in her head, etc. Few years later she began to recall the events of Halliserre's death, saying that Halliserre's mother whispered of the Old Gods. There is no mention of this bit of lore in the games. It is from the World of Thedas Volume 2 book.

What happened in the Forest changed Andraste forever. I think Halliserre had some spirit or a soul of an Old God in her body. She performed some ritual in the forest and died, transferring whatever she had in her body to Andraste.
