Battle of Alesia was a such clusterfuck oh my god

I really love TW: WH. Probably my favorite total war but I with they had a better ending. Only getting a small text box at the end of a long Campaign is really disappointing. A small cut-scene for each race would've been cool.
History and fantasy living in harmonyand all the nice posters are good lads.
>>181975783
yeah, its pretty retarded, how hard is it to have a few still images with some generic narration over them?
>>181975783
Even a general cutscene where the advisor sits back, and does an Oscar performance where he's a first smiling, then sobbing, then gradually turns into a maniacal laugh.
>>181975853
who the fuck is krell supposed to be anyway?
>>181975783
Let's hope it's something they changed in WH2. It's been brought up quite a few times in various places so I don't see CA being unaware of the complaint.
>>181975539
Why did the gaul fuck stop doing his guerilla strategy though?
>>181975783
Yeah it's stupid as hell. A lot of total wars didn't have an amazing ending video, but at least it was something. Hopefully they add it in TWW2 since so many fans have complained about it. It's not super important, but it's a nice tiny dessert.

I'd be more than ok with it, problem is half the general plays history while the other half plays fantasy, in other words both hypothetical generals will be dead and slow as fuck

I think Vercingetorix had a battle against Caesar in another city (Gergovia) where caesar had really high losses, so that made him convinced that probably getting sieged while he waited was a good idea since Caesar would have had big casualties again, would have been short on supplies and would have eventually lost the attrition war

>>181984934
Romans inside improvised fortification and spread thin all around its border while enemy is pushing from both sides at the same time and yet somehow Gauls didn't manage to break at multiple points.
But yeah, true about proffesional soldiers vs peasants.
alright just completed dwarf long campaign on normal. Who should I play next, should I raise the difficulty? The only time I had trouble was when I got attacked at the very south of the badlands by three stacks of norscans and up north by 4 stacks of chaos at the same time, was pretty fucked up

Bretonia on hard.
It is now July, a chill wind blows in Naggaroth but the sea of malice is beginning to thaw. From Ghrond, a messenger comes bearing word of an ancient prophecy involving the lands of far Lustria. The Hag Queens offer many sacrifices to Khaine to gain more of his favour. Meanwhile the Druchii of Clar Karod whip their slaves ceaselessly in preparation for the Witch-Kings coming campaign.
A great fleet is being assembled for but one purpose, domination by a best elf soon!
>>181985652
>>181983468
>>181982908
Roman fortifications were really good, with several layers of traps, spikes and deep engineering stuff
The video leaves out a detail though, the gauls amassed their troops in that place because a river went through there so probably fortifications weren't that developed there
But yeah, Julius Caesar was incredible lucky to have such veteran army, i mean no other army would be able to pull that shit off
>>181984934
>The Gauls were just people.
Heavily demoralised ones at that, at least inside. Watching their families cut down before their eyes in a no mans land just because they hardly had any food.
Vercingetorix must have been a shell of a man when Caesar finally got around to executing him years later.
>>181985652
>improvised fortification
I don't think you get the extent of the fortifications, they dug up huge trenches that they filled with the river, they built a big ass palisade all around the city with a ton of rakes to prevent charges, they built towers and they dug pits that they filled with spikes.
They dug and built more than they fought. That's the the true power and revolution of the Roman army. They're fully independent and adaptable.

well in this instance, what you usually want to do is check who is getting married/the traits of the bride - what I usually do is allow the marriage if the wife has good traits, and intervene if the wife has bad traits or I have specific plans in place for whoever is getting married (marrying them into the family)

Influence is the currency you use to do political actions (assassinations adoptions etc) with characters, characters gain influence at different rates.
I'm not exactly sure what power represents (even though I've put over 200 hours into the game) but my best guess is that the less power you have over your nation the less loyalty your generals and characters will have on average. If a character becomes disloyal they'll rebel and try to build their own faction.
You might not want to intervene because the wife might have traits that make your husband a better character or you might want to intervene because she's a horrible ugly bitch that nobody likes.

>limited diplo options means you typically have the same enemies/friends
>shield of civilization means that you will get military alliances/confeds w/ ease every playthrough

>Bretonnian starts are railroaded through the greenskin incursion events
>>unless you are playing louen, in which case you always want to make the same starting moves in regards to the orcs/marienburg
>chaos invasion is really samey and underwhelming, since they hate conflict and will run from your armies

Is there any mod that makes Rome 2 less arcadey?
FOTE update when
So, after the defeat I had yesterday, I managed to get another big army of 40 units or so, I also have another army of 10 units in Rome with a garrison
The big defeat I had yesterday made Nori take Velathri with almost no losses, but since Insubres army got wiped out in the battle, Massilia took both towns in Cisalpina, wiping out Insubres AND made Raeti their client state, so Massilia is really saving my ass at the moment. I also managed to convince Arverni to join me as a defensive ally so If i can wipe Nori I would have a pretty stable campaign
I'm now waiting for Nori to make their move, either leave Patavium undefended so I can attack, or leaving Velathri undefended so I can take it back, or just attacking Velathri despite the army
Fuck.

what the fuck is this, literally all of japan is going to murder me once I take one more province
>>182006038
never lmao, attila modding is dead
>>182008207
Pro tip Once you go republic, vassalize every possible province. You'll gain an honor and a unit. The province will immediately declare war next turn. It should be an easy auto resolve fight. Now you can loot the province.
It'll cost honor, but you just gained one. and now you have anywhere from 20-40 000. to spend on your repairs and recruitment.
you also need to build those 6 provinces up to near max before getting max fame. and it'll keep your honor neutral so you don't make people unhappy with shit honor.
its a bit slower, but you'll need it once all of japan declares war.
Also you can protect important ports from bombardment by clever placement of fleets, and you can even wall off areas of the map. holding the seto inland sea with just a couple of ships at each straight can save you a lot of headache.

Aww shit, that's fuckin' gromril. I need to start thinking like that.
>>182009915
They fill a role, but honestly i found the melee cav, sabre and spear were both really interchangeable.
cav units are all kinda weak and i get that 1 on 1 yari ki beat sabre cav, but i almost never fight straight cav engagements since its a waste of cav, cav in empire, napoleon and FotS is best used to sneak up on and hit enemy guns or hit the infantry line in the rear when they're engaged in a shooting fight with your own infantry. And then pursuing down any fleeing units.
I'd only send melee cav in on melee cav if
1. It was absolutely necessary to secure a flank
2. their cav manages to make it to my own lines and i need a quick reserve force.
Anyone got any tips on how to get my people happy again in Napoleon? I'm playing as Russia and the Ottomans declared war on me so I took one of their places, and they're being real uppity. cavalry in fots is a bit underwhelming in actual combat, but they are pretty amazing for chasing down troops

they are still useful and fill a role and are force multipliers when used right.

how much of an impact do hero units/characters/generals have in battles? should i spend my leveling up points on combat skils as opposed to general leadership buffs? how much will the ai fuck me if i don't have heroes with my army and i don't engage with my general? will a hero wreck a whole unit 1v1?

>>182020240
>how much of an impact do hero units/characters/generals have in battles?
A lot. but milage varies depending on level of hero/lord. its always worth it to have some in an army or on the campaign map as agents. a hero unit can wreck a unit 1v1 but a lvl30 hero and lvl1 hero are very different.
best way to take em out is with ranged weapons. Don't be afraid to commit your general to battle, unless they're fighting against multiple enemy heroes the enemy general or some giant monster or very elite armor peircing unit. and even then as long as you have supporting units a hero or general can last a while in combat.
As for skills the only one i always recommend is any campaign movement bonuses and lightning strike. but even then on some lords i don't even both if lightning strike is too far down the tree. or if i have specific plans with certain lords and builds. I just usually try to max out a few skills instead of dabbling in a bunch since that way i can more easily define roles for armies and heroes.

>>182020240
It depends on the difficulty you're playing at, but some heroes are better suited for the campaign map, others are better off in a battle, and some are good at both. Unless you get a mod to disable AI use of agents, you will want some campaign map focused ones to counter the AI's, as far as points are concerned that's personal preference I think, if you're playing normal you can usually just make all your lords combat/spell oriented and call it a day.

I always lean on Sillykids because I get bored of hoplites and phalangites to the extent that other successors use them, so it's nice to have persian peasants and pseudo-legionaries and more interesting cav options.
Egypt is a traditional safe spot though. Depends on what you're looking for and what you aim to do. A by the books campaign, some campy shit or some migration memery?
>>182021530
I'm fairly new to DeI so I went with the safer option of Egypt.
Although I'm sort of scrambling to stabilise my empire to begin with. There's a lot of cities to get into order and public order is kind of a bitch at this point because of the Hellenic/Egyptian culture clash.

Paper Total War.
The better you do in fights, the larger your crowd is and they can throw things at the bad guys.
The battlefield will be on a very large stage with 4 edges (better than invisible walls if you ask me). When units engage you'll have that paper smoke and stars and "pow" signs flying with units being tossed out. Every unit will have some sort of special ability which is also visually interesting.
I just haven't decided whether it should be mario characters or humans, like hoplites, cavalry, but cartoony. Because with Mario characters you can have koopa armies, bobomb generals, just all your Mario baddies as soldiers. But I also think it would be cute to have paper knights charging in.

Real question.
Are Empire Spearmen with shields gonna last longer on the front line than Swordsmen?
Like will they take longer to whittle down? Because that's all I do with my front line anyway, just have them stand there while I micro my crossbows, cavalry, and lords and heroes.
I'm just wondering if their higher melee defense will let me do that or if I'm gonna be missing the killing power from Swordsmen. I do mostly fight humans with this army so cavalry almost never comes into question, but sometimes I have to deal with beastmen and vampires.
>>182020240
Mage lords are terrible(unless they're dual role like Mannfred, who incidentally is the gold standard of lord units in the game).
Mages' worth depends on how good their lore is.
Utility and flashy spell magic is usually bad, healing is amazing and direct damage(like lore of death) is good.
Ranged heroes are lackluster on the battlefield as well.
Melee heroes are generally useful on the battlefield all of the time, though they vary from being about a standard infantry unit plus leadership buffs, like the warrior priest, to straight up the best unit in the roster; like the gorebull.
They still don't stand up as completely broken or more valuable than regular units(excepting certain fuckers like Mannfred), and are roughly equivalent in combat to a couple of basic infantry units, though more resilient; and less capable of doing damage as fast.
They are also often the only viable air squad a nation has(like Empire, mounting captains on pegasus), which can be used as a really strong assassination squad.
Monstrous lords like Kholek, or the Gryphon mounts are more equivalent to four or five basic infantry, but this is due mostly to terror, they still chew through casualties relatively slow for their cost.

yeah one thing i do is sometimes generic lords have economic bonuses so i'll use one to help garrison a troubled town with a bunch of agents that boost the provinces income, and if anything gets close, the agents can jump into the army to defend against the siege attack. heroes are pretty great on the walls and just having a general command a garrison makes it that much better.

>>182023259
they will do a better job if you never charge your swordsmen in, because if nothing else they'll have charge defense against large if standing still.

Not just a smaller Empire Campaign where I have to spend a long time in civil war with other humans to form the true Empire.
>>182022942
The weird thing is in Warhammer, heroes seem the most useless on the campaign map but are actually most useful. I'm just gonna assume you're trying Empire first so:
Battle Wizards have Planning, this reduces the cost of buildings in the whole province by 10%, they get a skill at level 2 to increase that to 20% and can get traits that increase it more.
20%, whoopdeedoo, right? Wrong. If you're patient and just wait a bit on military and expensive unique buildings that you don't need right away like money or growth buildings then you can stack them up, move in the wizard, deploy him and save thousands of gold. He far outweighs the 270+ cost of having him around every turn.
Warrior Priests give additional growth. This one is super good. 1 warrior priest is worth more than a level 3 farm and doesn't take 6 turns to build plus however long to get the settlement to level 3. They free up slots in your minor settlements for money buildings and guardhouses (build 1 in every, I'm not kidding, EVERY settlement). I find these guys are the most useful on the map. The growth is too good, plus once you can recruit them at level 13 because you have Middleland at level 5 and built the special building, then deploying them also gets you +15% casualty replenishment so you can colonize ruins faster and heal from chaos fights.
Empire Captains boost public order. Pretty good if you don't wanna waste a slot on the happiness building, though you usually have room for 1 in every province other than Reikland. They're also going to be your first assassins before you get...
Witch Hunters. These guys are your good assassins but take a while to get. They also passively remove 8 chaos and vampire corruption because any "character" removes 2 and they have 2 skills that remove 3, most only get 1 skill that does that.
It's a bitch to level these guys up if they're only deployed so if you want to level them, you'll have to spend gold and make them do stuff to enemy armies.

gonna campaign post my rome campaign from last thread unless anyone objects.
With Carthage itself roman, and the nation of Carthage reduced to it's holdings in Iberia. Rome could turn it's attention elsewhere. But where? The senate was, as usual, conflicted. The Ligurians prosecute war against Rome's Massilian trading partners. Many senators (those bribed by equestrians with Businesses in Massilia) wish to join this war and extend the borders of the republic to the natural defenses of the Alps. Others want more attention towards the riches of Greece. The mighty Spartans holds power there, a non-aggression pact with them stands but Rome will not hesitate when conquering. But all senators agree on one thing, before future conquests the Etruscan revolt at Alalia must be put down. Having revolted last year while roman armies were occupied with Carthage, the Etruscan revolutionaries are well on their way to reviving the recently destroyed Etruscan league.

It's also a familiar sight for many of the troops on land. Most of them are veterans of the Legio I Italia and were present at the first battle of Alalia. But that was under a different commander. Lucius Julius Libo who has lead the 1st legion in all conquests save this one. For last fall he was attacked by assassins sent by the house of Junii. The very same house the admiral Decimus belongs to. The men are not exactly pleased that they must fight on the same battlefield as him. Talks of "an accident" are abundant. So Decimus plans to stay on his ship.

What stats should I favour when picking the best cav for my armies, torn between Cursi Iberian cav and Parasim Kan'anim Carthaginian Cav
Thinking Iberian cav because of the increased melee attack and weapon damage
God damn.
Skirmish just doesn't work in Warhammer.
It's like if you leave them on skirmish, they'll reload before they try to run if they have to reload where when you click them to run away, they do it right away even after a volley.

wait, i want to follow up on this. how is anti-cav a small role? literally every battle i ever fought against the ai's stacks was the lines clashing, while the cavalry fights in the flanks and the winner gets to slam his cav into the rear or sides of the enemy units and resolve the battle. well, if i was the winner that is, if the ai came out on top i'd still find some way to counter his cav, most of the time.
i always had a mixture of sabre and yari cav on the flanks.

Just be happy towns automatically get walls at level 3.
Also everyone knows if you intend to actually win your siege fights you need the defense building.
Also you should be more outraged that you go form 2 knights of the realm to a knights of the realm and a knights errant. Literally a downgrade for either the capital or settlement, I forget which one does that.
Yay war on two fronts

>‘You never answered my question,’ Archaon said softly, after a moment of silence. ‘Would it be so bad, to lose yourself?’
>Canto hesitated, and then said, ‘Yes. Who I am, who I was, is the only thing I have left. To surrender it is to lose everything I fought for in the first place.’
>‘You value the life you had, then?’ Archaon said. ‘You cling to the past, afraid to face the future.’ He swept out a hand towards the shimmering black globe. ‘See, Unsworn, the beautiful thing which awaits all of us. It is not terrifying. It is life, and change, and growth. It is the life which springs from death. This world is dead, but a new one is growing here.’
>‘Mushrooms from a corpse,’ Canto said.
>Archaon lowered his hand. ‘If you like. Maybe the world to come will be simpler, at that. Less burdened by the weight of history and failure. What I do know is that it will be stronger than this husk of a world we reside in now. There will be no weakness, no false morality or burdensome piety to chain men. The gods will sweep aside the old, and unmake the false foundations upon which the lie of this world stands.’
>‘And that will be better, will it?’ Canto asked, without thinking.
>‘Yes.’
>‘For whom?’ he asked. Archaon looked at him. Canto waited, then, when no punishing strike came, he continued. ‘I never wanted this burden. It just came on me. I’m only a man,’ he said softly. He looked at his hand, encased in black iron for gods alone knew how many centuries. ‘I’ve only ever been a man. A wicked, evil man, who has done wicked, evil things. But I was never a monster. Never that.’
>Archaon chuckled. ‘And what would you be now, Unsworn? Man or monster?’
>‘I would be true to myself,’ Canto said, though not without hesitation.
>>182037617
>‘There was one other who spoke like that,’ Archaon said. ‘His name was Mortkin. They called him the Black-Iron Reaver, and he carved his saga on the hearts of the gods themselves.’ He glanced at Canto. ‘He could have been the one standing here, once upon a time.’
>‘And why isn’t he?’
>‘In the end, he remained true to himself. He was a man, Unsworn, not a monster.’ Archaon turned back to the coruscating darkness of the globe. ‘But I shed my humanity long ago. I cannot escape what is inside me, nor would I wish to. I have been in darkness for so long, that I fear I would find the light blinding.’ He stared up at the globe, as if seeking something within its glistening depths.
>‘I am a monster and I have set the world aflame, so that I might watch it burn.’

>The templar rocked slightly on his armoured knees. It was just him and the God-King, in the holiest place in all the Empire.
>‘You have forsaken me,’ Kastner hissed to himself, his dry lips pronouncing each word slowly within the confines of the hood. The templar looked up at the statue’s proud features. The statue gleamed its goldenness and from the low angle, Sigmar looked like a haughty and disdainful god. ‘I have lived a devout existence. Bettered myself with study, for your good grace. Trained to my limits and served you through the sword. I have honoured you. I have loved you. I have given you everything I have. Yet you have left me lost on a path to I know not where.’
>The templar was bathed in shafts of coloured light from the stained-glass window and felt his harsh whispers rise on the heat of the morning sun.
>‘I am no longer an instrument of your design,’ Kastner said. ‘A yardstick to measure the purity of others, a weapon for you to wield in punishment and a shield to protect your Empire from foes near and far. I am changing. I am changed. I know it. Circumstance has turned me from my purpose, in service of others unknown. Like the warped arrow, I fly untrue, yet hit the mark. I will not be a nothing in your eyes. A dog to be put down in the street. I am not an error. An aberration. I am not history to be re-written. I am not a mistake to be corrected. Speak to me, my lord. My Emperor-of-all. My God-King. Show my heart the way. Lead me back to your light and love. I did all in service of you. Like the arrow shaft, I can be softened and straightened. Like the imperfect blade, I can be re-forged. I beg of you, my lord. Find use for me again.’

>Kastner rose to his feet. He felt sick to his stomach. His knees felt weak.
>‘Don’t leave me,’ Kastner pleaded with his lord, ‘the plaything of fate. Show me a sign – in this place of all places. Anything, curse you.’ But nothing came. Kastner’s lifetime of devotion and service was rewarded with the kind of monumental silence only a towering statue could deliver.
>‘You speak not,’ Kastner mouthed within the darkness of his helmet, ‘but I hear everything. Silence will be met with silence, God-King. Nothing so singularly personifies the prayer unanswered as a god powerless to save his people. So be it. You will watch your worshippers suffer and die – as I drag down your Empire into the embers of Armageddon. You will hear me then, God-King. You will hear me in the pleading prayers of your people, held under my blade. You will hear me in the ravenous fires – that will eat all you have lived to build. You will hear me in the deafening silence of the End Times, where I will leave your petty Empire no world left to conquer. Though half-blind, I see you for the fraud you have always been. The appealing ramblings of a mad friar. I renounce your false majesty – and will forge a path of my own making. I will champion my undoing and accept allegiance of those that already answer the hatred in my heart. I do this out of hatred for you, my lord. Out of hatred for all the fickle Powers of this world, who play at destiny with men’s souls. With darkness lies a new beginning, as with me lies the end of man and all godkind.’

I actually don't really hate Archaon, dude is just a character that went increasingly stupid to lead GW's bizarre plans forward in the end. I'll mock his increasingly larger horns and make fun of his more than a little "dislikes: my dad" tier story but I thought he wasn't so bad during as Storm of Chaos as an actual vehicle for a massive Chaos invasion. The actual event is something else but again, all on GW.I mean I don't even hate Mannfred despite going 150% retard in 8th then adding another 50% for good measure during Skub Times. He wasn't such a bad character originally but was eventually ruined so thoroughly the whole Mannlet thing came about before there even was any hint of AoS. I'll still mock both plentifully of course but active scorn is reserved solely for GW itself.Archaon's AoS model is also hideously overdesigned and I hate it as much as the actual thing.

Events were supposed to depend on how the tabletop battles in stores went.
Chaos kept eating dirt so they basically tossed it out the window and teleported Archaon to THE FINAL BATTLE
And then, I'm not sure how the decision came about but they had Grimgor wreck him and then they brushed everything under the rug.

Yeah the AoS model I thought was some fan creation. Which is how I perceive AoS as a whole actually.

Are there really no humans in Warhammer 2 and two types of elves? I haven't played Warhammer 1 but it seems like the faction variety is better since you have the Empire, Greenskins, Chaos, Vampires and Wood Elves.

>>182047945
Last week of July
>>182047945
It came out on Thursday - here
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EaDlihIqPws
>tfw you wasted 10 minutes of your life micro'ing a battle with your cav because you forgot to put the hoplites into phalanax formation
This is why formations as an ability should be removed and macro deployment instead
>>182048416
>a game mechanic should be removed because you're a tard
k
>>182048525
If they can code for skirmish mode they should have learnt how to code to auto adopt stances after 10 years
>>182048416
I like having it as an ability, Greeks didn't always fight in phalanx, especially in rogue terrain they retained the ability to fight a more skirmish based warfare.
Not being able to break formation and run/maneuver quickly would be a pain too.
>>182048660
Skirmish mode makes sense though from a command standpoint at least. "Go fuck with these dudes and retreat when they start shooting at you"
Getting a bunch of dudes in phalanx or a square would take an actual commander I feel because it requires much more cohesion.
>>182048525
The mechanic is poorly implemented and mostly redundant micromanagement. It should be tied to unit move speed, which it already is limited by. If the unit is standing still or walking, then they should be in phalanx and if you tell them to sprint then they aren't. Having to order a hoplite unit to stand in phalanx is so fucking retarded.
>>182048918
And how do you ensure they retreat as a cohesive unit instead of scattering like ants? The same way you get them to form up into a phalanx or square.
>>182029898
Kislev is for the third game, as they fight against Chorfs and ogres
(SFO)
Grombrindal's base attack; weapon strength, 613. 286 Normal Damage - 377 Armor Piercing. Level 13, (with 3x skillpoints) and basically everything yellow maxed out. I also had a Runesmith, Longbeards and some RoRs. During that battle he was up to ~816 weapon damage a swing. (If that hasn't taken the +15% too it would have been 928 damage a swing, but I think it does? It was fluctuating).
Is there any lord more badass and powerful than little ol' Grombrindal? Best fucking dorf. Is there any way to get that any higher? Seeing him kill a partially injured Wurrzag in two swings was fucking badass.
>>182025420
>complaining about x on a Jan Mayen spearfishing company's digitally submitted complaints center
>>182048071
I'm still mad.
How the fuck do I beat the Greenskin campaign? I cant afford more than one army near the start, the Dwarves and their hyper armor are always attacking, other greenskins are always attacking, my own settlements are ALWAYS attacking.
I've finally got some cav and it's just in time, the Thracians are on their way.
>>182047706
How much did they have left?
>>182047851
I've seen some odd things happen but not that. Is that dead riders refusing do lie down?
>>182049705
>Thracians are on their way.
falx on falx combat. should be fun.
>>182046125
What mod for skills is that?
>>182049823
That's riders on dead horses floating and their horses are targetabble entities not the riders
Oh boy, I've spec'd my champion for authority skills for the first time ever, let's see how hard this hit their morale.
>>182049572
Get a Waaagh!, use agents to identify isolated armies, then gang up on them. Generally I focus on kicking the local greenskins into line before tangling with the Dorfs.
>>182050031
Fall of the Eagles I believe.
>>182047995
Yeah you do.
And here's hoping Norsca dlc will finally return ship battles to the game in time for the sea.
Let me explain: when they annouced it they said the last dlc would have an additional game mechanic that would benefit everyone when it was added. Hopefully that means ship battles are back
>>182049705
didn't get to kill their general this time, but infantry is still mainly there, so better to recover with
>29 morale
>General about to engage has -10% to enemy morale on top
Well that's one way to break the game with a sickening crack. Why have I never tried this before?
>>182049992
>Thracians in charge of building armies
If you say so mate
While that is a lot of dudes to kill, I have a huge advantages in long range skirmishers and cavalry.
Both wings push up while my infantry hang back.
>Hmm why has the enemy sent that general all alone
march army over
>the doomstack that killed me last turn reinforces
Can you reinforce if your ally is ambushed
Has anyone tried to play Marcomanni in Augutus map? Fucking impossible. Germans hate you and won't confederate, celts hate you and if you attack them you piss of Augustus and that's endgame because he has armies full legionaries from the start while you only have levy peasants. Also no income because barbaric nation.
Excellent, their general and some units on the right flank have are chasing missile units which will kite them to death.
Again the lines clash and I have to send in my second wave in immediately.
The earlier work done by my warlord begins to show as units rout at two thirds strength.
>Eliminate the dwarfs completely as Greenskins on legendary.
>Confederate and conquer the south.
>Accidently lose some armies cause of humies.
>Obedience starts plummeting out of the ass.
>Lose litteraly all of the south with 80k in the bank.
>Can't keep up with recruiting new forces while the AI spams rebels and armies.
I want to throw my computer out of the window right now.
>>182053578
And i forgot to mention, it's a total fucking grind trying to chase down these fucking goblin faggots.
Imminent chain rout.
>>182053578
You lost all the south?
Like all of it?
Does the AI always lag their general behind their army in attila, like 2 km away? Its so easy to just send cavalry to kill him all alone there..

>>182054370
Like litteraly all, i've been trying to chase their armies down but they just go from region to region, it's insane.
>>182054386

>>182055062

>tfw CA probably is on holiday or just had one
>>182054620
How hard is for them to program the AI to have 2 other units always walk with their general, and also not to be 2 fucking km behind their main army all alone
>>182055239
I think the AI sometimes does it in Attila. Warhammer AI is a bit better at having units running away from a losing fight and cycle charging.
It's kinda weird that the AI is so bad at defending the general in Attila when it can do some really cool shit in siege attacks(defending it's flanks in the streets so they don't get sandwiched rome 1 style.
>Auto resolve bar is in my favour sitting at around 80:20

>>182058472
You can recruit them in a few areas nearby, I think Sicily has them.
If you want to have supplies at sea recruit and admiral and build a supply ship. Have that escort your army on the water.
>>182059482
They need to have a certain building upgraded

AoR are unlocked by upgrading major/minor settlements in a province. If you have them at T2 you can check the T3 upgrade to see if it gives you new units. I don't think any units are locked behind T4 settlements.
This only goes for your own territory, I have no idea if/how you get more from a client state.
As for the war, when I took Syracuse as Rome I got thrown into the punic war asap. I would think the same applies for Carthage but who knows.

I'm a retard with a toaster playing R1 and I'm having trouble with Gallic fucking shits because their preferred strategy seems to be "two-man lines across the entire battlefield lmao" and I'm having trouble with the Macedonians and Greeks because their strategy is "all phalanx all the time" and I don't have any heavy cav besides my generals to deal with either of them. Should I just wait for Principes/Triarii and heavy cav to take these guys on while picking on someone less obnoxious or am I missing something in a big way?
>>182065125
Crete isn't worth it as Rome. You can get their units without ever stepping on the island.
If you take out Epirus that's fine but be prepared to leave a small garrison there if you want to hold it.
Otherwise taking Cisalpina, then Illyrium is ideal. Possibly just the city of Massalia too.
This gives you a solid buffer zone to the north, east and west. If you aren't going into Sicily your south should be secure as well.
It was just a little bit of pillaging you fucking hippies!
>>182065192
I'm just on a shogun 2 kick but before warhammer i was really into Attila.
I've played almost every total war game I started with medieval 1.
Its more that I've played legendary in warhammer and atilla but never in shogun 2 and i wanted to go back and see if it was really as hard as i remember. and yeah its unforgiving but not insurmountable. I also wanted a change from the melee i had been doing in warhammer and wanted some naval battles and guns so hence fall of the samurai. I had been playing a lot of bretonnia so going to cav heavy focused game like attila didn't interest me as much.
>>182065757

That was not the case when Attila was released. That shitstorm on /twg/.
A new unit is available from my home province. For 90 upkeep a turn they're pretty amazing.
Current plan is to try bait the full stack at Pulpudeva into an ambush, replenish my army with these guys and take the capital.
>>182066078
Looking good, if you take the Epirote town in Macedonia make sure you build a T2 aux barracks. Should give you Cretan archers and Thelessian cavalry.

>What mod?

>You should have enough precursor weapons to soften them up before closing in anyway, regardless of the enemy.
I kind of rushed off half-cocked, I guess. I don't even have archers yet but against Gallic armies that aren't fucking huge I don't have many problems; my issue is dealing with the human wave tactics from across the entire damn map. I can also usually grind down the boy-fuckers from the east when I have a numerical advantage but light cav doesn't seem to be cutting it as far as flanking is concerned and I may as well be throwing spitballs against those hoplites as far as my veletes are concerned.
>>182065192

How do I into Western Rome in Atilla? I guess I abandon Britain, Gaul, and try to fortify Spain and remove niggers in Africa to free up that whole area?
What mods are recommended for TWW besides Better AI recruitment and army composition?
Is it viable to work towards victory as Empire if I only want to control Reikland, the Nurn province and Marienburg? I hate controlling massive amounts of land, and the map feels very lonely and sad with all the other Empire factions gone.
>>182076529
The one that helps the AI building the right buildings.
>>182076740
Totally viable. Just form NATO with the rest of the empire faction. Remember to help them out though. Also you might have to resort to sacking a lot. Norscan settlements and armies gives good amount of loot though.
>>182077052
>>182076740
Also you should purify Sylvania and take control of it.
>>182076428
There are several options for the WRE
You could hold the barbarians at the border like a trve roman, as unwieldy as that plan is.
Alternatively that strategy can work, though it means that the Suebi are free to settle in Gaul
Or you could just say fuck it, burn Europe to the ground, consolidate in Africa and restart the Empire from there. Be ready for revolts, though, and hordes angry that you scorched all the fertile land
All can make for interesting campaigns
Is this game any good, or is it basically a re-skinned Rome 2? I know it uses the same engine, so unit collision and holding formations will be dodgy at best.

And then they say TW fights are too fast
>>182076529

>Is this game any good, or is it basically a re-skinned Rome 2?
It's kinda both.
It's much better than Rome 2.
It's like, Rome 2 without most of what made Rome 2 sub-par
>>182077691
Fucking asshole, go play it right now. It is a gorillon of times better, and to me the best total war game yet. The only problems are the optimization
>>182077691
>all those memes in so few words
Just fuck off, volound
>>182077691
It's more than a re-skinned Rome 2
You get:
>Family trees
>better graphics
>game is not focused entirely on Rome leaving all the other factions rosters and mechanics bare-bones
>Diplomatic AI is more dynamic as it changes with each new leader
the list goes on, I myself can't go back Rome 2 after playing Attila

>>182078530
I guess I'll go play it then. I've just been disappointed with the latest releases. Haven't played Attila or Warhammer yet, but in my opinion the last good Total War was Medieval 2, and I haven't seen anything top the first Rome yet.
>>182077691
It's what Rome 2 should have been, if only it could have proper map modding it would be perfect.
>>182078681
>the last good Total War was Medieval 2
Too obvious

Norsca won't be released until September to coincide with TWW2
>>182078953
It's true though.

Your glasses are so rose-tinted I got diabetes
Are thracian warriors worth slapping into your army as auxiliaries
Why is everybody playing DEI all of a sudden ? Did the mod become non-shit overnight?

paid shills from steamcordeddit

their rhomphaias pack a punch but their lack of armor and shields makes them poor shock troops
They truly shine when you use them to attack unprotected flanks or rears while the enemy is engaged with your heavy inf
hmm I don't think it'll be as hard as the game tells me it's going to be. The second army is just a general and a unit of pistoliers.
I'm going for it

M2 sales are finished, you can stop shilling it for a few months

you're going to get meme'd on lad

You are going to get butchered

>Ungors
Yeah, that's a loss right there. Hell, even if your melee units were Gors they could still win.
>>182079904
Yes. If you need heavy infantry removed take a couple for rear charging fun.

Is it possible to make other factions stop fighting eachother? Because up in the northeast the Empire factions are always fighting one another.
Is there a strategy towards forging early military alliances, as early as possible?
