I get that it's not that important, but I'm sorry, I can't just ignore it. The disconnect is just too great!

It's especially odd because presumably they'd get partnered with the same RIOs for every mission. So in theory our squadron should be +10 people (depending on whether RIOs defect too, or if new RIOs join Razgriz squadron) in the story rather than 5. Naturally, that would be too much, but it's one of those things that really bothered me ever since I considered the canonicity of the F-14D in AC5.
>>
>>181955253
its one of those ace combat diversions from reality

>>181955253
Story and gameplay over technical details. RIOs do not contribute to the former two in any way unless the story and gameplay can accommodate them.
>>
>>181955501
try to think about if the demon lord really exists then or is he just a 8 man squadron or more of elite aces assigned to the Allied Force's Galm Team with Pixy as their lead rather than the overtly famed two man mercenary dream team who just happened to be some of the greatest aces of all time
>>
>>181955253
Or perhaps, although the 2-seaters models do have the RIO modeled in, they simply flew without them.

Fuck, the rabbit hole goes too deep!

>>181955798
Oh yeah, it's a valid idea that these various heroes of Strangereal are just enigmas and legends, and rather than being singular heroes, they consisted of many people working together and Mobius 1, Blaze and Cipher etc. are just romanticised ideas representing a force that won the war.
That's cool too in its own right for sure. I do like the singular hero angle slightly better though, and that's how it's presented to us anyway.

>>181955865
Well... it would be cool, and it'd make it easier on my mind, but I doubt that any military would ever let their pilots do that,
>>
Hey you.
You now lead an elite fighter squadron filled with aces in the Air Force of your choice.
You get total reign over name, planes, tactics, livery, formation, everything.

>>181954553
They're anemometer probes.
>>
>>181961348
Thanks a lot. The differences I see are:
>straight edged stabilizers (both sets, unlike the Su-37 which only has that for the vertical ones)
>different wing root-LREX transition
>F-14-like airbrake in place of the "stinger" and no dorsal one
>rounded wingtips (duh), but the spikes are still there (spoilers? I need the technical term)
>"spoilers" (see above for terminology issues) on the horizonal stabilizers
>radome has a more complex panneling pattern (isn't that detrimental to radar functions?)
>no gun ports or underwing hardpoints, obviously
>vertical stabilizers much closer together
>no "fins" bellow the vertical stabilizers
Did I miss anything?
Also, I need a refresher on what the stinger is.
>>
>>181962352
Pretty sure the stinger is rear-facing radar. Or a parachute thing. Maybe both?

It's both on the Su-47, iirc. Not sure about the flankers, which is why I ask. Double stinger for the win.
>>
>>181962851
>>181962983
Yeah, rear-facing radar.

On the Su-47, the shorter one is the radar and the longer one is the drag chute.
>>
>>181963151
I gush far too much when listing all the small differences in Flanker models.
Was there anything you didn't notice amongst what I listed? Just asking out of curiosity.
>>
>>181963617
<< I like you, man! >>

Also aside from the differences in the engine nozzles, looks like you got everything. Also it's rather trivial, but it's worth noting that the T-10 has a two piece canopy, whereas the Su-27 and onward have a three piece.
>>
>>181964056
Also I can't tell for certain, but it looks like the T-10 lacks the pop-up airbrake.

>>181964056
Oh, you're right. I guess I just checked the silhouette of the canopy and called it a day. The engines look truncated to me. Are there aircraft with engine nozzles like that?
>>181964489
That's what I meant by dorsal airbrake. I don't actually know the technical term.

I'll confess that other than other gushing over my planefu, my objective atm is to draw (spoiled in case it's heresy) a "mecha musume" along the lines of pic related with a lot of notes of how the Flanker translates in to the design. Would it be alright if I posted the end result of this (unholy?) endeavor) on this thread? Is the V2 for cases like me?

I do think AC4 is the weakest part of the holy trilogy, at least for me.

The controls feels insanely slow and too many missions are "kill stuff until the time limit" Also I felt Stonehenge was cool and felt threatening enough, but the mission where you took it down is laughably easy.

On the other hand, I'm sure as hell not saying it's a bad game. The music is as always top tier, the plot's not my favourite but I'll recognise its qualities, and Megalith is top hype music.

I also can't get into 4's music at all, same for the "plot"

I'm at the mountain mission where you need to evade Stonehenge shots and it's pretty damn cool at least. This an Corona made the game worth to play still. But the other missions were dreadfully bad.

I think the missions in AC5 are great. Lots of variety. The "muh peace" writing is too much though and the bosses are pretty shit. I only really like the Arkbird battle. The submarines were kinda bad. Maybe the Hrimfaxi was good, did it have the drones in AC5 or was that an ACI thing? I don't remember.
The SOLG is an extremely boring fight. Cool, but there's nothing to do but fly slowly next to the long tube. If you're feeling suicidal, you can try to fly through the tunnel but the hit detection is ridiculous. Or maybe I'm just bad.

The Aces tunnel was GREAT though.

Here's what I've done so far of the Flanker girl (just the head design, it's getting late) with notes.
Tomorrow I'll detail what details change for different Flanker variants (T-10, Su-27UB, Su-30, Su-33, Su-34, Su-35, Su-37 and Su-37U) and maybe I'll tackle the design for the body. I doubt I'll get to colouring it tomorrow, though.

I just realized the Air Combat "Su-27" is actually a Su-33 or a Su-27M, what AC2 through AC5 called the Su-35 due to being the prototype to both the 35 and 37.
Canards, single seat and angled V-Stabilizer Edges give it away.

Maybe if it was in a pusher configuration, but even much smaller compressor fan blades on jet engines contribute a lot of the frontal RCS.

On a side note, back in the 70-80s the USAF developed a way to type identify unknown aircraft based on how the radar reflected off the engines from the front or rear.

An AESA radar has numerous advantages in combat situations. Putting aside the radar's ability to be used as a Jammer, RWR, or terrain following navigation radar (historically all these have been seperate devices), and an AESA has two main combat advantages.

AESA radars are LPI, low probability of intercept. Aircraft have radar warning receivers (RWR/RHAW) that let the pilot know when they detect radio waves. They are typically mounted on various parts of the aircraft like the wingtip and tail surfaces. Modern RWR can use this information to determine radar type, range, position, etc. Basically, if you use you non LPI radar to target someone, they can know where and who you are before your radar signals bounce back to you. This makes using non LPI radar a double edged sword.

With an AESA LPI radar, it uses lots of very thin beams that are frequency agile. This means that there is a lower chance of your radar energy actually hitting the enemy RWR, and if they do hit it, the contact is often brief enough that it doesn't cross the threshold to register as a contact. If it does register with the RWR, it's only as a brief, intermittent contact that provides little to no useful information for your target.

Basically, if you have an AESA LPI radar, you can lock on to a target, fire a missile, and kill it before they even realize they're under attack.

The most recent air to air kill was from a super hornet with an AESA radar.

Sukhoi's website claims a max range of 3,000km for the Su-33, and 3,500km for an armed Su-27SK with 700kg of weapons. While the Su-33 is fatter and presumably draggier, this much loss in range would argue for a smaller fuel capacity.
>>
>>182056531
So 8400 is the most reasonable figure?
>>
>>182056632
Probably. Given that the Su-33 can't even take off with 8,400kg of fuel, and is capable of in flight refueling, it would be plausible that the designers would be willing to accept a reduced internal fuel capacity.
>>
>>182057096
The empty weight is of 18400 kg and the Max takeoff weight is 33000 kg, for 9500 kg of fuel the aircraft could still take off at 27900 kg. That figure is still lower than the loaded weight, 29940 kg.
>>
>>182057501
How much have you looked into those numbers? 33,000kg is max takeoff weight from a runway. Best carrier takeoff weight is 31,000kg. That assumes a 25knot headwind and from position 3 which is a 195m run up.

From the short positions 1 and 2, with no headwind, safe takeoff weight drops to 27,000kg.
>>
>>182058321
I haven't looked deep enough, as usual. Thank you for correction, I appreciate it a lot.
>>
Join me for another bamco game

>>
>>182058701
Technically you are right, with 8400kg of fuel it could take off from the short positions, barely. However even adding 2 R-27s at 250kg each would put it at the limit, and that's not really doing anything if you have to scramble interceptors.

Always take manufacturer claims with a shaker of salt. Unless they specify the exact conditions (altitude, armament),always assume the best possible conditions. Most manufacturers won't outright lie, but don't expect to see their numbers in reality.

Seeing as how the Tiger starts out at lvl 5, I'd say you might as well get it leveled up. The Morgan has slightly worse stats, in addition to the fact it'll cost you money to get it to where the Tiger is, money that could be spent on getting your X-02 leveled up.

tl:dr stick with the Tiger for now.

To be perfectly honest, the MPBM is pretty underpowered, considering what a force to be reckoned with it was in Zero. Obviously the ECM and TLS are good, but if you were considering the Morgan to fill your A2G needs, I'd say absolutely stick with your Su-34.

Rumours had circulated that Air Marshal W. A. Curtis, a World War I ace who headed Avro, had ignored Diefenbaker and spirited one of the Arrows away to be saved for posterity. These rumours were given life in a 1968 interview, when Curtis was asked directly if the rumour was true. He replied, "I don't want to answer that." He proceeded to question the wisdom of printing the story of a missing Arrow, and wondered whether it would be safe to reveal the existence of a surviving airframe only nine years later. "If it is in existence it may have to wait another 10 years. Politically it may cause a lot of trouble."

Post artists that do designs you like. If you post pictures featuring them, please post them under a spoiler so as to not disturb our aeromantic brethen.
I prefer mine on the mechanic side.
Pic related is by Byenontae Jagga, who has only done one mecha musume, an F-14, so it's not completely unrelated. I also like Nenchi and kws. Tom-neko's designs are too busy for my taste.
Another one-off I like is Mikoyan's Tu-95MS. A shame he hasn't done more mecha musume.

IR scanners were installed but they were removed as the cabling was pure shit and couldn't keep track or show you the target due noise and false positives.

On F-4B/N/C/D the shell was left empty,if not the IRST was replaced by ECMs installed inside.F-14s had the same problem,I don't know if it was fixed on latter D variants because everytime someone asks about them former Navy personnel and pilots will always say that those things were crap.

Also F-8,F-102/6 and some others had them, again I don't know about their reliability as Falcon missiles were better used as bombs dropped above their targets

Boy oh boy. That's incredible. I can hardly wait to play it.
Imagine if we had gotten the real version back then. What an absolute classic we would be remembering instead of the soulless game that had only its gameplay and aesthetics to offer. I mean, story wasn't important in AC1 and 2, but it was there and it had charm, the VA was actually not bad either for the briefings and such. Instead AC3 in the West opts for text messages like "New Orders: enter the Electrosphere and destroy Night Raven" and shit.
It was good back in its time anyway, but such a disappointment when you know what it could've been...

B-36 was a shit plane that was only adopted because convair literally bribed the secretary of the airforce into cancelling competing projects.

What's it like liking a plane so shit that the only way it would be adopted was through backhanded dealings and industrial sabotage? Was it really necessary to order all prototype northrop aircraft be not only chopped up, but smelted down right in front of the employees? Almost as if someone was sending them a warning by having them watch this heartless execution...

Surely a coincidence when the guy who cancels the competing contract is immediately hired by Convair after leaving government office. Surely no conflict of interest there.

But Ol' Jack got the last laugh, and Northrop Grumman is laughing all the way to the B-21 contract. Where's convair now? It's not even a subsidary of another company. It's dead, gone, forgotten, and unlamented.

Quickly fell in love with the game and played it fanaticly for a while. Some years later, at the university, i found a group that hired a room and put tonnes of videogames and consoles there. I had heard several times that the ps2 games were amazing, so when i found AC5 and Zero i decided to give them a go. Loved 5 instantly and loved Zero even more. To this day i still dare to claim that AC0 is one of the best videogames ever. And that it got one of the best video game soundtracks to boot. I also played Assault Horizon and tried not to throw up in my mouth during the last button promt. Found ACI some time after that. Grindy as fuck but i still got some fun out of it.

I mainly browsed /vg/ to hang out on /owg/ and /acg/. But when i saw /aceg/ in the catalog for the first time, i knew that i was home.

My family was poor as fuck before dad joined the USAF and went to school all the way up to his master's degree while being active duty. There wasn't much cash to go around, but we found a PS2 on a super good sale and dad jumped on it. A day or two later, I found one cheap game for $5, discounted in a bin. It was ace combat 4. Now to kid me, $5 was a big investment, in fact, it was $5 more than I had. So I found some sucker at school and took stupid bets for a dollar, like throwing snowballs at teachers or jumping off high monkeybars and shit. So i got my $5.

But sales tax got in the way. Fortunately for me, walking out of the BX i found a few quarters on the ground. So I run back inside, and give my shit to the hapless guy at the register, and bam. Proud owner of a shiny bew copy of ace combat 4. It blew my fucking mind. Anyway, after that dad started getting a shitload of promotions so i started getting spoiled more, but I never knew 5 or Zero existed until I saw this general one day.

Here's the WIP of the Su-27 mecha musume I've been working on. Still unfinished because I'd like to cram the radome somewhere in the design.
I'm considering putting a cutout (A is cockpit-shaped, B is airbrake-shaped) on the body suit to make it less "monotonous" visually, but maybe placing paneling paterns from the Su-27 will be enough. Maybe a cutout is too lewd too.
Finally I'm wondering whether to keep the shorts (C) patterned after the engine nozzle.
I'd welcome suggestions as to what to add to the design. Especially if it involves the radome. The shoes look weird if the radome's shape is conserved, so they're out.

Always had an interest in Ace Combat ever simce stumbling upon it on the Internet in 7th Grade. Then lo abd behold, my friend asks me to help him beat White Bird Part I because he was having trouble defending the pillboxes from the tanks. I borrow the game from him, fail numerous times because I was nrw to the controls, then decide to start from the beginning so I can get a better perspective of what's going on. From there I gradually get a better hang on the controls, get shot down by Burst Missiles a few times before realizing that I'm supposed to ascend above 5000 feet, beat White Bird Part I after failing to intercept the cruise missiles a couple times, and eventually beat the game all on his save file. From there I decided to purchase a copy of AC5 for myself, then 04, X and then Zero. Got 6 as soon as it came out and from therecI've been in it. Got 2, 3 and Air Combat later because I'm a completionist.

Is this similar to what you had in mind? I think it looks good, how does it look to you?

>>182151772
It's nothing I'm very proud of...
I remember multiplying the empty weight by a non-integrer to get it close to the max weight. Multiplying by two made it larger than the max weight. Empty weight was band measurement and max was bust measurement (both were way too small to be realistic).
Divide by a thousand and nter those values into a calculator and keep the cup size.
You could get better values by multiplying both with a non integrer between 1 and 2, but I didn't go that far. I'm not acurate enough when drawing. I got cup B from that for the Su-27.

Thanks a lot. I've noticed there's less material for difference listing amongst american design revisions other than antena placement and panneling.
It's likely because there are more american models than major revisions as is the Flankers' case. Unless I also count fictional interpretations of designs that never got produced. e.g. the F-15 variations are summed up with this one here, STOL/MTD and ACTIVE. I believe the F-15J is identical to the F-15A/C and the "Kai" version is just changing some antenas.
Or maybe I'm just overlooking something big.

Lovely Eagles. Was a bit bummed at how "samey" they looked when compared to Flankers, but then again the comparison is just four models (five if you count B/D and six with the YF-15) instead of six with just the numbered flankers.

>>
>>182230234
After the GDR dissolved and Germany was reunited, the two armies were merged as well. This meant that the German Airforce received Soviet equipment from the GDR Airforce. Among that was the MiG-29 Fulcrum. The German Airforce used those until 2003, where most of the MiG-29s were sold to Poland. Only one example remained in Germany, which is shown on the pictures and was then decomissioned. This plane is now in the German Museum of Military History in Berlin-Gatow, where it can still be seen today.

So I decided to play the ps2 games in chronological order using the emulation guide in the OP and the menu doesn't emulate right in Zero. The yellow text appears but everything else is black unless I switch to software rendering. Any way to fix this?
>>
>>182235190
No, but it doesn't affect any other function, other than the overlay in the hangar. The game will run much faster on hardware mode, so the black menu background isn't that bad.
>>
>>182235283
What about AC4? Is it still unplayable in hardware?

Use this. Tick Alpha to fix the transparency in the menu
Don't forget to use the widescreen in the game's options for all 3 games

>>182235392
AC4 has the worst emulation out of the 3 games. It's still playable in hardware but the planes are black and the clouds don't exist while the sea is barely visible, so a lot of stage are just an ugly grey mess.
I had to play it in software mode most of the time.

AC4 is the only one that still has some problems. It IS playable, but there are some graphical glitches in hardware mode that might bother you.
AC 5 and ZERO on the other hand are emulated completely fine.
