If you only have bad torpedoes to rely on, the enemy destroyers will drive out 6k from you, fire their 12-16 torpedoes which is enough to actually score hits, then drive away without paying a price. You can't torp them back with one 3-launcher and not be a free dodge for any cruiser or estroyer, essentially a no-secondaries shitter is free to harass infinite times.

With only 4 guns on the front and 2 on the rear, a gneis who was too stupid to spec secondaries is a free kill for destroyers, but you've actually Chosen your ship's only upside to be shitty low-range torpedo launchers that you can't use without getting into bullying range from destroyers.

You fire your one and only weapon since you were retarded enough not to get godlike secondaries, they insta-repair, you can't punish them 5 seconds later and you're a joke.
They won't be on fire and their engine and rudder won't be broken, so they escape.
If instead you had secondaries, they drive from an island at 6k and try to torp you, your secondary forces out a repair on a fire or broken rudder or engine, they have to repair, 5 seconds later they're still in danger zone and eat a chunk of main gun shells and a stream of constant secondaries, dying without the ability to escape a 32+ knot battleship if they can't re-stealth due to a fire or can't flee at full movement due to engine or rudder hit.

Against battleships they're a monumental difference as well. 3 torpedoes is only good against a broadside battleship. If they keep the nose or tail facing them, then you're setting no fires from secondaries and they can repair the one single flooding if you even get lucky to get that. Gneis 6 piddly guns isn't enough damage to win against a Nagato/Colorado with 8 bigger + health and healing advantages.
It's only manual secondaries where Gneis DPM after 2-4 fires is enough to force them to turn broadside and eat 3 torpedoes and citadels.

Enterprise is just a slightly better Lexington. Spam your infinite allotment of fighters at the enemy planes and keep your strike planes away from anything with too much AA. You have one use for your defensive fire consumable so try to make it count. An upside is that you are smaller than every ship at your tier or higher so that does make you a smaller target. You came up with a riveting story, care if I try for one? You are sailing in open waters in your Gneisenau. One or more enemy DDs are unaccounted for. Suddenly, torps appear 5 points off to port! You do your best to dodge and eat one on the nose. If only you had half a second more to react, you could have dodged them all! The damage is not too sever and you instantly repair the flooding, but now you are taking focussed HE fire. Two fires are set on you. Blast, these will burn for a long time and cause a lot of damage! By the time the fires expire your health is severely depleted and instead of helping to lead the push you're either dead or trying to skulk away until your Repair Party comes up again. If only you could've afforded some useful perks, but you yourself had campaigned in favour of 7 km secondary specs!

Manual secondaries doesn't require a tier 3, I go with Vigilance and shit all over destroyers all day by having secondaries that actually do damage after I squeeze between their torps and catch them as they waste all their speed turning 180 degrees while drifting sideways towards me.

So literally the only difference in your retard story is that you were stupid enough to take -10% fire chance for 4 whole points. 2.5% chance per point. You end up taking more fires than any manual spec german because you can't fight destroyers at all (so they can torp you, run away laughing and sit in smoke spamming FIRE laughing at your autistic ass)

Dueling a battleship, you end up taking more damage with Fire Prevention because your DPM is a joke now and fights last longer. Autists without -80% dispersion can't waste enemy repair so that your torp kills him with flooding damage when it's on cooldown because you don't set any significant amount of fires.

With retard Fire Prevention build, you can't punish anyone who was smart enough to turn and flee. Fires can still do respectable DPS as they flee from 5000-7600 meters, whereas a single 3-torp spread is helpless against non point blank tails who just like me have Vigilance and won't sit broadside to any German, whereas manual secondaries still hit the tail no matter how someone wobbles because the railgun velocity and actual high volume of fire.

BBs can just kite away from a torps and 4-6 gun only retard, wait for the small chance of one torp hit (which he'd simply remove) and sail away laughing at how monstrously cousin-fucking retarded anyone would have to be to spec Fire Prevention instead of Manual Secondaries on any 7+ german BB.

Aspergs staring at the stat page will miss that fire secondaries = wasted DCP = increased flooding damage for you and teammates and fire damage for teammates. That 2-proc burned a CD that means the Kutuzov's 2-3 fire a few seconds after DCP wears off will end up doing 30-40% HP.

Though back then every ship was tailored to kill any other type provided the player knew what to do, and secondaries were a part of how battleships could defeat destroyers. Meanwhile, destroyer torpedoes were very fast and even cruisers had trouble evading them.

Today torpedoes are much slower and secondaries basically hit every cubic meter of water around the DD but never the DD itself.
Things have changed, debatable if for better or worse.
