Agreed. I got PTSD remembering watching the Los indicators on enemy health bars while moving my cursor one square at a time trying to determine where I can move my guys without triggering the pod that my concealed ranger can see. Such a great quality of life feature. Plus I used to always forget that an enemy went on Overwatch and kill my guys by moving them around.


Although that mod DOES have one little thing that irks me. You still get an Overwatch patching icon even when you have a soldier with shadowstep selected. It's a small nitpick, but I would love if it didn't show for that specific case

It's weird, though. In order:

-game stops letting me change how many people are in my squad after changing it to 6 and then buying the squad size upgrades
-uninstall it once and redownload
-didn't change anything, squad size still bonked
-start game later saying "fuck it" but this time it does the "stay on black screen that forces you to restart the computer because resolution hates fullscreen" thing
-computer restarted, the squad size thing is fixed but now none of the mods will work even though they're in the correct folder
-delete absolutely everything and installing it again

I just want to play the fucking game, had to lose a shitload of progres thanks to this bullshit.

Are you by chance playing with Long War 2? That mod neuters explosives to be way less useful, comically so. It doesn't even make any sense that grenades have a hidden percentage chance of destroying red highlighted cover objects. An explosive is an explosive. If I threw a frag grenade at a fence it would be unusable as cover, guaranteed.

Don't keep your team clustered and always have at least Burn, Poison, or Acid Burn on him, because the DoT stops his Icarus Drop as well as damaging him every time he gets a turn, meaning you only need to worry about Devastate. Also Frost Bomb locks him down for 2 Ruler Reactions so you can get at least two attacks and hopefully more if you have soldiers with free action moves and chain moves ready and in range, plus if he wanders into range while you have Overwatching soldiers he doesn't Ruler React to Overwatch attacks. The only major pain is his massive amount of health which means you'll have to fight him several times before he dies.

Not always true, depending on what tech you have at the time. I fought him about mid-late in my campaign and had rupture. Activating him with it, he came into my overwatch and was already half dead. When he tried to escape, he was frozen and then two Rapid Fire and then a final Sniper Rifle shot killed him.

Fuse is ok. Not the best, but can be interesting if you catch some units on Roof tops. It's mostly good for getting rid of the possibility of a unit using a Grenade then for it's damage. But you shouldn't be grouping up anyway. Hopefully once the expansion hits, it will get more use.

I know fans give the game a lot of shit for the NPCs frequently talking and carrying on conversations, but I think it's a fantastic way to provide exposition in a fairly natural way while also world building. It makes the characters feel a bit more like... well, characters, instead of just "the guy in the research lab".

I like frost grenades because they are available literally from the first mission in the game. You can build a frost grenade the second you get to the geoscape. Poison bombs require you to dissect an officer, excavate a build slot, build a proving grounds, and get lucky with RNGesus when you run an experimental grenade project.

Am I the only one who finds it sort of odd that the specialist is the only one who uses the standard assault rifles? I know rangers can equip assault rifles as well as their shotguns, but that seems like a total waste when the shotgun is much more devastating.

You bring stuff like motion scanners and battle scanners, and you careful maneuvering to avoid activating pods early in the mission. Also get tricky with abusing LOS. So I just got XCOM2 yesterday and have been having a blast. But now I've hit a bug where the Aliens just don't do anything during their turn.

I think ALL of them will be bullshit powerful, just for different reasons catering to many different playstyles.

We know that Templars are basically Jedi. They can deflect and reflect incoming fire, the have a fuck huge AOE that refills their power meter if it kills something and they have a multi attack against a single target in a damage type that completely bypasses armor. I wouldn't be surprised if they could counter attack melee.

All of the classes are perfect for certain situations. Reapers are amazing at picking off small groups on their own, or if you get the sit rep where a map has tons of explosives, you can use them to wipe the map with Remote Start.

Skirmishers are amazing if you can set them into a position where a large force all needs to move to get to them, which means free actions galore, as well as being able to pull enemies out of position, which has always been the Vipers greatest threat.

Templars greatest strength seems to be the one thing you should never do, which is throw them out into middle of no where and have everything target them. Getting just one of these units feels like it's going to completely break the entire game structure since they allow you to circumvent many game mechanics. Heck, I remember when there was a mod for the Shadow Concealment thing and you could use things like a spec ops knife or throwing knives for silent takedowns and I thought it was the most OP shit ever and decided to stop using it because I was killing entire maps without getting revealed.

Remember, in the big interview that Jake did at E3 he said they're rebalancing the higher tier enemies to be tougher, so T3 Advent etc are going to be scarier now.

The idea is to use the knives to kill the advent troops and then silent takedown fleche the sectiod/viper. This works really well until MEC/Muton show up which can be as early as April

But yeah they aren't as useful on higher difficulties unless you rush mag where they get a 5-7 damage range instead of 3-5 but by the time Berserkers come around you can no longer stealth maps.

As someone who the Spec Ops class mod and a couple others focused on concealment, Reapers are going to be a lot more useful and nasty than most people will give them credit for.

Concealment focus naturally means they'll be great scouts and between stuff like Chosen, Rulers and those fucking shadows you'll want recon more than even. Shooting without breaking concealment means that you put the guy in the worst flanking spots imaginable to take out one guy and still get away with it.
Shit like blowing up half the map, turning enemies into bombs or just magdumping sound a lot more terrifying when you remember that the soldier can easily do it undetected, or go invisible afterwards.

Chances are that Skirmishers and Templars will seem a lot more fancy at first (and I admit that I'm really looking forward to using my own version of rulers) but experience is telling me that Reapers will end up being the most useful of the three.

Also if you thought throwing knives were OP, try having 3 of them, having them count as free actions (that was removed though) and having a damn near 100% crit chance per throw.

I doubt it will end up like that, I bet that it will require careful set up, their various abilities that rely on their grapple will hall have cooldowns, so you can't just spam them and the bullpup seems to have only a small damage range and apparently has poor range. So while throwing them into the thick of things will certainly be the way to go, it will probably lead to them taking damage from simply not killing things when they get their reactions against them. In order to make the most of them, I expect Guardian and crit overwatch spec, which means Talon rounds and the best laser sight possible and expanded magazine.
