I like the entire series and want to see more of it outside of the shilled fates royals, Marth, and babby's first FE chapter ever. Even considering the limit to these three titles its lame.

Yeah, fates was the closest we got to a genuine pvp experience, but the dlc skills broke everything in half, as was the general structure of battle preparations, choosing maps at random from the choices was severely stupid when you castle was in the mix.

Honestly they could have tried harder to balance this part of the game and it would have been more enjoyable than just spamming kinshi knight with galeforce, rescue chaining and warping azura all the time

I even thought about a system of rules like smogon but I don't think anyone would be interested in playtesting that shit

The earlygame is tough since your starting units are quite weak, and you basically need to rely on Marcus/Rutger/Deke for all your combat. It gets way easier once you start getting more characters with "hard mode stat bonuses," basically enemy recruits that have inflated base stats

FE6 is pretty difficult, but normal is not so bad unless you're doing a blind run.
The main issue is that reinforcements can often act on the same turn that they arrive, so some long chapters can be very frustrating when a squadron of wyvern riders spawns, flies across a quarter of the map, and impales Roy on the same turn.
Speaking of which, Roy is a terrible unit. Force deployed in every chapter, but he's complete garbage for the entire game.
On top of that, this game introduced the GBA-era map design and enemy density but stayed close to the FE4-5 era low growth rates, resulting in an over-reliance on units with high bases because you can't consistently ensure that most units will be able to keep up
