none of her lows knock down on normal hit.
none of her lows launch on normal hit.
if you predict that she's going to go low because she's going into her switch stance and doing the sweep, parry it. but that's really the only time you should ever be doing that. otherwise just outspace her since every move she has that goes into switch stance has a tiny hitbox right in front of her.

Everything else that gets stepped, drone. Throwing out mech kick gets you ws2'd, throwing out 3+4 gets you sidestepped and throwing out b1's like you're Dragunov gets you stepped too so Bryan has to use his unsafe shit to stop people from sidestepping all of his tools and even then, mech kick and qcb3 only get guaranteed shit off of CH.

How in the fuck do I win with steve? I started off with Lars and going into this with not much more knowledge than a couple of his BnBs I got like 30 wins straight. I then decided to invest time into a more complex character and started playing steve. I've probably got about 20+ hrs into training and matches and still win maybe 1/10. Meanwhile I can pick brain dead fucks like katarina or Paul and shit out wins without knowing anything.

Is Steve just too damn honest for this game?

Our boy TheMainManSWE switched to the PC version and immediately was able to hit 6 electrics in an online match.

Steve is the most honest.
No automatic 50/50 mixups built into strings, non-ch launchers are slow as fuck, pressure is easily interruptible if you go for extensions instead of traps that end your pressure outright when blocked.

The short version of what to do as Steve is wait for your opponent to open himself up by whiffing something or using something negative on block, then get in there and start your pressure. Try to stay in there there for as long as possible with stance cancels utilizing framedata knowledge to create favorable situations, until you feel like your opponent is antsy enough to try and challenge you, then go for the kill - usually CH b+1,CH b+2, weave right 1,2 , or some CHC string from one of the stances.
If your opponent doesn't do anything and simply blocks, you have d/b+3,2 as a low-high can opener, a command grab with 1+2 out of peekaboo stance, and a couple lows out of your stances that don't give you a major reward but will eventually chip your opponent down unless he tries to get out of it, which is something you have to "feel", so to speak. If you feel particularly ballsy, and your opponent is especially scared of you, go for the guard break ext dck f+2, dck f+2. If they block the first hit, the second is guaranteed to hit. If they wise up to it and crouch, mix it up with dck 1 which is a mid.

The most important part is being on point with your CH confirms, optimal b+1 and b+2 CH confirms are fuckign hard to do, but are essential to show your opponent he needs to fear getting dunked for 60 damage off an i11 move if he presses a button at the wrong time.

tl;dr Steve is all about conditioning your opponent, and requires you to be on point at all times. Hard character to play for sure.

you can't bully your way in. you have to have good movement to bait out whiffs and properly punish them either with df+1+2 or use the whiff time to get in range to get them to start blocking and start your offense from there. every time you go in, you need to get information moreso than get damage, at least at first. if you get damage, great, but try to identify why you got the damage or else you aren't getting information.

he's unga when people refuse to play solid defense, which is like most people online, but he's also susceptible to random ducking and crouch jabs ending his pressure prematurely and backdashing in open ground, so you have to identify when this happens and deal with it appropriately. you can autopilot the same string just fine and get lots of information on how the opponent deals with it. and that's basically how you play rushdown vs smart players in tekken. you just have to be smarter and play the long con rather than short term payoff.

it's a general thing, but rushdown chars like steve or hwoarang need to apply this the most because they have so many offensive options and create so many unique situations that the opponent has to deal with and that you can impose on them. you just have to be really good at movement in neutral and conditioning up close to make this kind of stuff work.

i mean, yes, online you can bully your way in and autopilot to victory, but that applies to any character, and i assume you want to improve to be able to beat good players and not just rank up online/rack up win count.

Steve may be the hardest character to play in Tekken. Not just in terms of execution, though he's certainly way up the with the rest of execution-heavy characters, but in terms of the mental effort you need to apply to every match to stay competitive as you fight better players.

Succeeding with Steve and seeing your opponent slowly break down until they crack that one time, press a button, and get facefucked with an 80 damage combo into more pressure is the best feeling though.

How do I get better with steve? I know he's considered hard and as my first 3d fighter since SCIV i'm not super prepared but I like his style and want to play him.
