Mortal Kombat is too violent and controversial. DOA is too sexy. Tekken is too dark, especially when it comes to family terms (which remember, family is the key genre for a movie like Wreck it Ralph) They wouldn't even know what character to pick from Soul Caliber, and SNK and everything beyond that is far too obscure for them to reach.

Though I would imagine a character that is as "cool-looking" as Sol Badguy could make an appearance, appealing to the kid/edgy teens.

Terry may as well may make it in too, because of his simplistic design, but he probably wouldn't even have a single line in the film, and just be sitting around next to a cast of minor video game characters that won't speak for shit. Terry wouldn't even say "OKAY!" Let alone Sol Badguy even getting a line.

what they do for ggxrd is kind of artistically complicated moreso than programmatically, not to say it isn't the latter to some degree

but they do a lot of visual tricks to make the game look like how they'd appear as sprites with the motion tricks, like a quick sword swing looks momentarily like a really fat sword in motion, that's a visual trick

once you've programmed the engine, you just work around that engine by doing these tricks and getting that cool visual effect that wouldn't be normally accomplished by moving or posing the model in a standard fashion by itself

on the other hand, it appears kof97 for ps was actually more preserving of graphics in general than saturn port (which i owned) due to the fact that saturn port horizontally shrunk the sprites for some reason, i don't know if it required the extra ram to play it either since i can't recall the "best" collection coming with anything other than the kof95 rom cartridge

been a while since i touched my sega saturn though, like at least a decade ago

dreamcast "99" had some unfortunate load times i remember, and i'm like, come on, this is dreamcast, you're better than those two other consoles

i think the ps2 versions were smarter in how they integrated loading, though

i don't dislike either choice but went with eri in the end

the way i see it is that fio is that one that's the default vanilla choice, easiest to like, probably most recognizable at that, she's a what you see is what you get kind of character, and if you like that straightforwardness, it makes sense to pick her, no drama, no foreplay

on the other hand eri just screamed something having a little more to her than meets the eye, she feels like the more interesting choice where if you pick her, you get just a little bit more whether you may like it or not, so there's a small mystery box aspect to it

so i was tempted by the latter

I checked XIII and Tekken 7 for shits and giggles and it showed the same gaps at least with the timeframe that the graph showed since the one with the gaps only went back a week.
