Mind's eye ludroth gs or hellblade gs to get a faster head break and then start doing real damage. Normal dps skills otherwise. I don't usually play sns but I found it to be good for silver because of its oils and fast hits letting you do a lot of water damage for the head break. Ludroth sns specifically, though something else probably could've been better. I can get a 15-20 silver with that set up. Headsniping will be a pain against that guy so I say pick up sns or bow.

Did you guys not play past G rank titles? It's a badly-needed filter for shitters (that, as in past generations, is still easy enough for them to get carried through, but at least if they play with people their own rank that are also shit they'll have trouble getting past it). Should have been the filter to even enter G rank, like Ukanlos in 4U, Goldbeard in 3U, Akantor in FU, and you know, fucking Lao-Shan Lung in Freedom. Just a high rank Lao to get into G and then a G rank Lao in G4. The fact that the gateway to G rank is actually just a Diablos is a fucking joke.

I agree that progression is fucked, though. However, apart from the fact that early G rank goes too easy, I hold this opinion because until Lao, for the first two (of 4) g ranks most weapons only get like one upgrade along one path, and until then you're working with mostly high rank or very early g rank gear. Then Lao weapons are pretty easy to get and a HUGE jump up from almost anything else you can make up to that point. Seems really bizarre, like they didn't plan it or halfassed most weapons' upgrade paths so you actually start getting into mostly g rank gear only in g3 and 4.

Being able to abuse MOI is great but try gemming in evasion+1 to get used on using i-frames then removed it once you get the grip of it. You don't get many iframes on your roll in MH, especially if you're used to a high-iframe build in Dark Souls or something. Only 6 default. You can increase that with the evasion armour skill, though, and in 4U that actually goes all the way to E+3, which gives you a tremendous 18 iframes, way more than even the most you can get in any of the Souls games (not sure about Bloodborne, though, I think you have a fuckload there too but I've never played it or looked at data). Even E+1 boosts you from 6 to 10, though (+2 is not 14 but 12), and imo is a very high-value utility skill on SnS or any weapon with low commitment attacks (on something that relies heavily on finishing combos or doing charged attacks, eg GS, Hammer or LS, you're better off with Earplugs; With weapons like SnS or Lance you can just block or learn to iframe roars anyway, but you can't do that mid-attack/mid-combo with everything).

With that said, while SnS's short reach and low commitment lends itself to an extremely aggressive playstyle where you stay under the monster iframing everything and attacking constantly, learning to position yourself to not get hit in the first place is NOT a bad thing at all. You might want to be playing a different weapon like that, but most weapons rely a lot on positioning, and it's a good habit to get used to using it (even over iframes, since there's a lot of things you just can't iframe through without Evasion+, and you don't want to gimp yourself by having E+ instead of more useful attack skills on every set later one).

Honestly, in my opinion, SnS is a horrible weapon for beginners for this very reason (it requires you to play aggressively and stay very close to the monster while using iframes to avoid a lot of stuff, more than any other weapon including DB), and the game should really suggest GS or LS for beginners instead.

Personally I do not enjoy GS, I just think it's a perfect weapon for beginners- Extremely easy to pick up and learn, only moderately hard to master, and every habit or idiosyncracy it teaches you will actually help instead of hurt you with the majority of other weapons, where SnS can give you some bad habits (from being able to use items with it drawn, good mobility with it drawn, short reach, short attack commitment, etc, all of which will hurt you when you use other weapons later if you get used to having them).

LS has the most "average" gameplay of all the weapons in my opinion, with a meter-based gimmick, a fairly diverse moveset where the different moves actually fit different openings better (your A button thrust is actually as low-commitment as an SnS move and your X+A fade slash moves you back or to the side as you use it so it can also exploit short openings, but then it also has slower but higher damage moves and combos that will get you hit if you try using them that way, so it can teach you a lot about timing). It also greatly rewards efficient gameplay, since your damage is insane when your meter is red but in 4U especially it's a bit harder to get it there and you can't keep it there for long, so once you get it you want to make the most of it and try to kill the monster before it runs out.

Hammer is a pretty top tier BM weapon imo (in terms of how it feels, not how powerful it is; If you just want power, GS and IG are the ticket in 4U). If you feel drawn to it, by all means try using it more. You don't have to "main" a weapon if you don't want to, that just means less grinding since you'll generally only be upgrading one thing til endgame.

Yeah because fighting a drome or a kut-ku is the same as fighting a Tigrex. You can get away just fine with hit and run or just attack mashing and eating a couple hits at the start of low rank, what with monsters having huge windows to pound them unpunished and all.

The problem is not remembering it, is knowing it in the first place. Souls also went through years of refinement in various iterations, starting with Kings Field, then reaching the best formula in Demon's, which Dark then built on to create the perfect game which found mass appeal because it was so refined and perfect.
MH by comparison has gone through less-drastic iterations but has been slowly building up to reach this place (with MHW) where it is going to hit mass appeal and become the new Dark Souls in terms of how popular it will become outside of its established base.
Capcom are going to own this gen the way Bamco owned the last one, if you thought we already had a lot of MH clones there are more coming. Dark Souls was hugely influential and this is what will happen to MHW, it's the new Dark Souls.

Sometimes I think that the dependence of dash juices/Gypercos & Ludroth semen on some weapons makes me think that stamina in general is inherently flawed, especially if it has to be used to stay on par or even surpass weapons less dependent on it. So I'm a newfag that's gotten into 3U, because WiiU, and I'm currently hung up on the Urgent Duramboros quest as well as some of the 1 and 2 star Port quests. I feel like I don't do nearly as much damage as I should and that I get hit pretty hard. I'm rocking Jaggi set and Cataclysm Sword at the moment.

Is it just me suffering from a case of git gud? I know I'm definitely getting hit to much as I'm pretty greedy about whacking monsters with my GS.

Not really, along with learning to draw attack you also need to learn to sheathe, doing unsheathe attack into roll cancel then sheathe immediately will leave you stuck doing your sheathing animation two feet away from an angry monster and almost guarantees you'll get hit. You also get punished for blocking, the very long-winded GS attack animations make it harder to judge openings and will punish you harder when you misjudge, etc.

Meanwhile with SnS blocking is "free", attacks are low commitment and you don't ever need to sheathe.

You want to hit the hump. Pitfall traps when it is not enraged (for longest effect), KO via Hammer/Hunting Horn, and flash bombing it or hitting its legs while it spins around are some easy means of accessing the hump. When exhausted, it will also collapse on the ground when it tries to spin.

Not so much Dark Souls 1, which works very poorly with it even with mods. Revengeance is WAY better with kbm though. I don't understand how people do zandatsu mode with a stick instead of a mouse and think that's better.
