It's going to be in Project Wingman as is.
I don't think bamco would allow modding for AC7 for a good reason.
UE4 is easily moddable, which means DLC sales will be extremely low, so this will be a problem for them.

I would argue that Elder Scrolls games are super moddable, but those expansions still sold like crazy.

Playing Ace Combat X: Skies of Deception for the first time now and it's great!
I really love that the story is told through drawings and a side character's narration again, exactly like in AC04. It's a format that as far as I'm concerned they could've used for every game in the series. It's minimalist and nice, but very powerful. I guess it wouldn't work with more involved games like AC5 though, where your character actually exists outside of the gameplay and cockpit. I suppose it also wouldn't be as special anymore if they did it every time.
I'm getting a very dystopian vibe from it. It's actually similar to AC04 in that way too.
And I know Ace Combat is pretty dystopian at its core already, being a series about a world in which war and unrest are constant and large-scale wars emerge literally every 5 years. But the vibe is usually more upbeat or hopeful.
Especially the hangar and mission select theme, that you hear between missions is absolutely terrifying. It's very uncharacteristic for AC, and I love it.

>>181486960
sounds like a slow-mo version of dead sea
>>181486960
Glad to see someone enjoying it, to me X is almost Holy Trinity quality. Also that hangar theme is one of my favorites.
>>181486960
I don't find them that terrifying, although I can see how.Now about the Gleipnir theme

>>181488928
The one where you eject yourself from life.
>>181489391

>>181489638

>>181488721

>>181490227
BULLSEYE!
>>181487252
To be fair, terrifying was perhaps an exaggeration, but it is very dark. Really captures the melancholy, hoeplessness and folly of war.
And yeah Gleipnir's theme is actually unnerving. ACX' soundtrack is very unique.

Shame their fight's a bit tame.
>>181494478

>>181494478
>>181494698
It's interesting. I've only ever played the campaign in these games, never did any free missions to improve scores or ranks or anything. The stories are just too good to not just play the campaign again.
For me, the missions in these games are also mostly made memorable and great by the music. I'm not likely to remember the map layout or landmarks or anything by heart, but when I hear the music I remember some key moments and emotions.
So for ACZ missions and tracks like Merlon, B7R, Glatisant, Juggernaut, The Inferno, Mayhem, The Demon of the Round Table, The Valley of Kings, Avalon, The Stage of Apocalypse are all highlight missions for me.
To be fair that's a lot of missions... may as well say the entire game...

Man... I haven't played Zero in forever (last time I did I'd rented it from blockbuster...) QAAM is so disappointing lol
>>181497308
>using any SPW other than FAEB
>>181497308
What do you mean? QAAMs are crazy persistent. I remember firing one in Blockade in AC04 and watching it do two loops around the target until hitting it. Cool as fuck!
I usually go for 4AAMs (or XAAMs?) though for those 4-kill-combos and to have spare active missiles if one of my normal ones misses.
>>181500356
QAAMs are basically a guaranteed kill in 04, not as much in 5 and 0.
>>181500356
Yeah, in AC4 they're godly, I just tried them in AC0 for the first time (at least in recent memory) after playing 4 a few months ago and I barely noticed a difference between them and the regular missiles.

I'd have to fly with whatever other europeans hang around /aceg/ because the only other AC player in my friend's circle (and owner of the AC6 copy I use) uses novice controls and maps accelerating and braking to the triggers instead of the traditional bumpers.
He also got through the campaign because I unlocked the Nosferatu for him.
My situation is quite dire short of doing a great sales pitch to some other friends and convincing them to buy AC7.

This is a minor point, but I remember an issue of the EGM magazine way back in 2007, and it had an interview with the Infinity Ward devs about COD4, and I remember the journalist praising it for having the balls to have a nuke go off, and they talked about how it had never been done like that in a military game since it subverted the rule of heroes disarming the bomb.
I got really pissed back then because AC0 did the same thing one year before, and no one talked about it

If nothing else, nobody on 4chan sincerely confuses the difference between Japanese and weeaboo. I've recently(ish) been replaying 4/5/0. I was pretty sure I'd played all of them, but only owned 5 and 6, and the other one.... As I was playing 4 I was like halfway through and still couldn't entirely remember if I'd played it, or if I'd just read what happened. Then there's one mission where an ace ( I think it's a yellow) shows up, and if you shoot it it flees the battle. So I chased it to the end of the map trying to shoot it down, it escaped because it was too fast to catch, and by the time I got back to the fight there wasn't enough mission time left to complete it.

>missing the draw of 4's story THIS HARD
So let's spell this out, the reason 4 has an interesting story is because you play the villain.
In most games, the player is an unstoppable force who is guaranteed to win. So when writing a story, how do you make it interesting when the player already knows that it will end in inevitable victory?
The AC04 team answered this by making the player NOT the focus of the story. By instead focusing the story around a third party to the war, it becomes much more interesting and engaging. You know Yellow Squadron will die to the player in the game, and you know that Mobius 1 will be the hero that saves the day. So by focusing on a third party, the story gets to explore the effects of the conflict from a viewpoint that's not so set in stone.
So no, the main character (the storyteller boy) of the story doesn't "have nothing to do with the story," nor does he somehow bitch at the player character for killing him. Plus, it's not like Yellow 13 bombed his house, and the kid never explicitly expresses that he blames the guy.
In short, this criticism of the story falls flat on its face because it's basically a series of strawmen.
On to the gameplay
>do X points in Y minutes
is an undeniably shit type of level. They're boring and drawn out in many, many cases.
>scripted enemies
Yes. This is a huge weakness of a series with such easy gameplay. No matter what enemy is introduced, a skilled enough player can shoot them down. This means that introducing recurring enemies must be done in a pretty hamfisted way. Just think about Zero: every ace squadron or team has no buildup, they simply show up and then you kill them in the same mission. Overall, this is a prime example of ludonarrative dissonance, and one that I hope Ace Combat can solve for 7.
>>181542265
>do X points in Y minutes
Why do you guys hate these missions so much? Lifeline, Invincible Fleet, Tango Line, evenGlatisantare all comfy as fuck missions. I like the idea of extended operations.
Can somebody fucking explain to me how some cheesy animu arcade game from a genre that nobody even plays can make the player feel more like a badass than games like Skyrim where you are supposedly some chosen one who kills dragons and saves the world? In a media that is argued by some to be comprised almost entirely of power fantasies, why is it so hard to get right?
>Fire away, you coward
Jeez Pix. When the lasers and missiles fail you go right for the feelz. That's just mean.
Anyway, zero replay finished. I'll probably do all 3 again closer to when 7 drops.
>>181542942
because compared to the rest of the missions in the games where their fast as fuck and great they feel sluggish
when i boot up Zero i can always jump into Mayhem and know i'll come out pumped as all hell, but with Glatisant and Lying in Deceit they feel like a total drag compared to the rest of the game where everything else is fast paced
>>181515374
I think the games still look fantastic. The planes, the maps and lighting effects, they still look amazing. I play in component video mode so that helps. Still some stuff remains blurry, but it's hardly even noticeable.
>>181543824
I actually don't like Lying in Deceit, despite liking Glatisant so much. It's probably my least favorite mission in the game.

>>181543503
><< It's not that you are unskilled. He just outclasses you >>
Dialogue in all of them. Nevermind that you are pretty much a god in all of these games.
Or who knows.
>>181543503
because ace combat has you play as a character with an established background (fighter pilot) going through a (mostly) linear story and missions. the objective(s) and gameplay are clear and straightforward.
whereas in elder scrolls games you're literally nobody in the beginning and you have to make your own story/adventure. there's several stories and you can do them in almost any order. there are no clear objectives that you must do and the gameplay has many different styles to choose from. all of this sounds like it could be great, but in the end you get another generic open world game with too much bullshit and you just wind up wandering around doing this or that and then you quit because you got bored.
>>181543503
The gameplay in Ace Combat is good and has a learning curve. Plus the presentation helps a lot too, the music, the narrative, the presentation in general. It's incredible.
>>181543503
with games like that its outright expected for the player to be hailed as this god slayer and thus its impact is diminished, but with the Ace Combat series their legend is built over time and its portrayed as you being a symbol of hope with the forces, hell, midway through Ace Combat 4 you'll hear ground forces say "I don't care if it's a lie, just tell them Mobius is in the air" or along them lines, something that seems so little but speaks mountains about how much a symbol of hope the player character has become
something always flairs inside the first time you hear yourself get called "The Demon Lord of the Round Table" or the "Ribbon Fighter" mid-combat against an enemy that outnumbers you and should out skill you which youre absolutely decimating
>>181544374
That's probably because Glatisant has interesting target areas, not just lots of little clusters of AA and buildings.
>>181546164
I just don't get why this seems so hard for other developers to pull off when project aces seems to manage it so effortlessly. A huge part of this is obviously that in all 3 of the main games you get the enemy (or friendly in your example) chatter that plays you up as the game goes on. One of the only other games I can think that does this is Far Cry 2 where the enemy mercs start shitting their pants when they know you're around if your infamy is high enough. 99% of games out there have you as an immortal death machine and then some rando trash mob is just like "COME GET SO-" *decapitated instantly. I mean I guess it's reasonable to assume there are people who think it's more badass to be wrecking these "tough" guys, and to some extent AC has that too, but AC just manages to strike a balance that I don't think I've seen anywhere else.
> << This is the round table. Dead men's words hold no meaning. >>
Fuck pixy, that's a badass opener.
>>181547514
its because the games of Ace Combat manage to create a world where this god-like player character is triumphant among hundreds of other characters that are of equal skill and are well fleshed out even if they have little show time, the likes of Albireo Squadron come to mind as an example, 4 aces that are shown for only 3-4 minutes in gameplay at best but are shown to be interesting with full voice acting and an intro that characterizes them as being by the book as well as being grounded as characters by enjoying simple games like chess
other games that usually attempt this have a few grand big bad villians that arent very relatable and the way that the player gains infamy is through killing hundreds of trash mooks with little skill while Ace Combat has the player killing several bosses of similar or equal skill to gain that rep which impacts the player more as they feel as if they've made an impact

>enemy AI just slow down to stall speed and circle forever as you lock them
This is really aggravating. I doubt that's how you should react when someone gets a lock on you, but they do and it work. Does this happens in 6?
Because of this the fastest way to get rid of them is to bait them to pursue you and then joust them. And then it becomes way too easy.
I really don't want to joust forever in 7 either. It's really bullshit how the AI can't see it coming and react fast enough to evade missiles in their faces.

Exactly. Retarded stories like that and flying super weapons capable of saying fuck you to every single law of physics (and that's not only the Varcolac planes, it's also the giant planes of which you have to kill way too many) can work in a fictional setting, but when the game is supposed to be happening in the real world it's just like "no"
There was simply no reason to set it anywhere other than Strangereal. A sequel/prequel/parallel story to X would have been fine. It would have been much better.

Yeah, I guess some of the text is hard-coded or otherwise designed in a way that'd make it too involved to change. I think it gives it a cool edge though and the lingo is mostly based on Japanese and US Air Force lingo, so it wouldn't make sense to change it. I wonder how you'd even translate AWACS...

In the Spanish translation of X, "miss" when you miss a shot is translated as "misión" (mission) for some reason. The proper word would be "fallo". Whoever translated that game needs to go back to school.

Acoustic guitar uses metal strings and the size of the neck isn't much different from a regular electric, Spanish or classical guitar has nylon strings and typically a wider neck. The two types of strings produce a different sound and they feel different when playing too. Personally I'm much more comfortable playing the acoustic, but that's probably because I started playing guitar with an electric.

Since Zero is the prequel to 5, it can be inferred that Cipher is the first coming of Razgriz, as a dark demon, or Demon of the Round Table. Wardog is the second coming, as a hero that restores peace to the land.
Beyond that, no other game has any sort of tie with the Razgris legend.7 has the theme in the beginning of one of the trailers, but I think that's because the astronaut seen is Nagase, and not because the player is another coming of Razgriz

Also, Nagase is an astronaut?!
>>181567172

Huh, that's really weird.
As for the length, I mean I guess longer is always better, but AC5 did overdo it a little for me, in a way. Not sure if it was due to the hammy plot or the missions themselves or anything like that.
I want an arcade mode though! Preferably with lots of options! And perhaps an endless mode!

>>181568845

>>181567018

>>181568312
What are you talking about?
If it's longer than AC0 and shorter than AC5 then it's probably about the length of AC04, which is 20 or 22 missions? How is that not enough? Guess what, arcadey games like Ace Combat are short. Always have been, always will be. For (retards) people who believe the only value in a game is how many hours it keeps you in active gameplay, paying 60 bucks for any AC game would be unbelievable. Just like it is for games like Vanquish, DMC, MGR etc., the entire shmup genre, and all arcade games.
>>181567018
>only four to five hours long
Are you fucking serious?
Post plane music
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SMG1WCVff0I
>>181568312
If it's talking about 4-5 hours of mission gameplay alone (ie not including any cutscenes, briefings, etc) that would maybe make sense because that's 12-15 20 minute long missions, or 18 missions at roughly 13-17 mins apiece which is pretty similar to AC4/0 length if not a bit longer.
And I'm hoping that's the case and this is a slight mistranslation because a 4-5 hour long campaign in total is retardedly fucking short.

>Yeah, you don’t want to break the immersion by flying out with magical girls adorning your plane.
So I decided to see just how long the PS2 games were. And also AC6 because why not.
Just stole the video lengths from BrySkye's playthroughs since they include all briefings/cutscenes and he doesn't try to clear each mission as fast as humanly possible. Also having all of them cleared by one person minimizes some variance.
AC4: 4:09:00
AC5: 7:03:45
AC0: 3:55:49
AC6: 5:41:31
The videos for Round Table, Mayhem, and Demon Lord have all three ace fights and interviews in one video so Zero's time is a bit longer than it should be for one route.
All of these contain the credits but omit hangar motherfuckery so maybe add 10-15 mins to each.
TLDR 4-5 hours is maybe not that unreasonable.

You could do the X-Wing thing where each plane gets different pilot cards. So if you get an F-14 you'd get to choose between the Wardog/Razgriz pilots, and Schnee, and whoever else flies F-14's. And then an SU-37 gets the Yellows, Gelb,Renaetc.

Yeah... I've always felt AC5 is the weakest of the three for that reason. It's just a bit annoying. But at the same time, I think the hammy dialogue makes it very human and charming.
On another note I find it really interesting to look at pilot stats and see who's doing the most work in your squadron, aside from the player of course. The kills are very evenly distributed though...
I really like Snow the best, but sadly he only enters your squadron late into the game and doesn't get much to do...

I wish AC had gradual aircraft damage like engines losing power, wing damage, weapon systems malfunctioning, etc instead of "healthbar's empty, you're dead"
Cause you'd think a plane with 90% damage wouldn't perform as well as one at 0%
>>181622241
I can see where you're coming from, but that also makes you exponentially less likely to survive the more damage you take.
>>181622420
Well yeah, that's the point. IT would force you to get good since you'd be able to take much less damage
It could be exclusive to the absolute highest difficulty setting
>>181622581
Yeah that'd be a good compromise. Otherwise you could get situations where people would rather just restart than try to play with a crippled plane.

Erusea was invading, dumbass. It was ISAF's job to stop them. The story expands on Erusea's occupation of the boy's town and how little he cared for Yellow Squadron as human beings who were just roped into a war because they were soldiers, only because they were on different sides, along with his whole life being shit because of them. Mobius drove them out in the end, which is what he wanted from the beginning.
You don't play as the villain. You play as the goddamned deus ex machina of someone else's story entirely.
Want a game where you really can play as the villain? Play Zero.
>>181629804
You start as a literally who mercenary who gradually earns respect and/or fear from both allies and enemies through the story.
The debriefing guy was talking about Galm team and the other pilots who operated over Valais Airbase on that mission to keep morale up, not just Cipher.

Something like a squadron that adapts to your playstyle, a "dynamic" squadron, would be a good idea. You know like how the soldiers in MGSV adapt to how you play? I do regret it a bit but I never would've grinded the 10 million credits I'd have needed anyway...
I could really go for a game like Infinity on PC though with more longevity and reliance only on skill rather than bullshit enhancements and shit.
