reminder pyro is gordon freeman. he went back in time to the 60s to enlist in vietnam to stop the combine, but the timelock malfunctioned and sent him back further than expected. his HEV suit was damaged in the blast so he put on a nearby asbestos suit instead. the suit was filled with laughing gas which drove him mad and he accidentally enlisted in the gravel wars. the mercs were ironically enough sent to vietnam to fight over australium rice.

this is 100% canon and the new pyro / jungle update will also be a co-announcement for half life 3.

reminder that if you cant destroy a sentry with stickybombs and have to rely on pills that tumble around randomly you are a bad player and should get good asap

Agreed. I personally use pistol because it's good to have a sidearm when you want to track down some stragglers.
Scout has various other pistols meant for damage and utility, but engie's secondaries aren't pistols. They are more like tools used for utility purposes. It's kinda odd.

Only situation where it's slightly better than stock.
Too bad it doesn't change the number of shots required to kill most classes, two meatshots + initial flaming + afterburn will kill soldiers and demo/pyro whether you are using one or the other.
It only changes whether you 1shot or 2shot a medic, but if a pyro is in airblast range of a medic, the medic should be fucking dead anyway

the airblast was the real problem. pyro's crappy mobility severely limits the axtinguisher's usage without it. it would end up being used with the detonator without airblast like what sketchek did with it to close the distance after lighting them on fire. but now even that's ruined because of the fucking molasses tier switch to speed.

No deploy speed penalty, but putting it away takes a long time.
Slower swing speed so that it rewards reading your opponents Hp so that you kill it in one swing.
Movement speed bonus if you deploy it while you recently damaged someone with the flamethrower.

Does DPS really matter if you die in one hit?
The sniper rifle has barely 99 dps but it's considered a solid as fuck weapon because you 1shot people
It completely and absolutely renders ALL pyro damage-focused melee into the curb, making utility only melee anywhere near useful.
Why do i need a melee that sets people on fire to MAYBE kill them later, when you have a melee that one shots them?

Depends on your purpose; divebomb, camp, engipet, flank. In a general sense it's
stockt FT +stock Shotgun +Backscratcher/Powerjack
You can never go wrong with this formula.
Stock FT have loads of airblast, Shotgun allow you to contribute team fights and those melees have the best utility
Backscratcher is for Medikit camping on offense and pushes, with Flare it annoys Snipers and dispatches Scouts
Powerjack for flanks once enemy picks are dead, Detonator jumps on flank routes and backtracking is faster
Homewrecker or Neon Annihilator are for Engipet Pybro, remember to airblast or Scorch shot people from certain distances
Axtinguisher or Third Degree are for divebomb ambushes upon pockets from above floors, Backburner comes handy

I think it's a downgrade.
9/10 times i use the shotty at medium range for peppering.
Then there's the one time where I where I airblast them for a minicrit.

The problem is that you should already out them for considerable damage and the only thing then that would survive would be a heavy and maybe soldier.

In most situations that I run into mini crit damage is useless and close range only mini crit is missing out on one of it's big features.

And not to say I don't airblast a lot I just use my shotgun for normal shots way more.

Why do the classes other than the Scout, Soldier, Demo, and Medic exist?

they all have situational uses where they excel at a job compared to others, for example i use pretty boy on baddielands or other maps where i usually have a lot of area to dodge explosives and can just shoot one or two shots across the map and get free fucking health. or huo long if i know for a fact im going to be the only one pushing the cart like in casual as it's drawback is literally one thing which being on a cart mitigates, also great if your team is comprised of nothing but fucking pyros since you get a damage bonus. or scottish resistance, very underrated in for example highlander, where you can deny areas so much better than stock on defense, EVEN if you never detonate anything at all just because 14 stickies on the ground forces them to play more passively, and you can create a web of defensive placed stickies. weapons like beggars bazooka tear through heavies, pain train is one of the best sidegrades for both classes that can use it in casual (since im usually one of three people actually trying to cap), even blutsauger is annoyingly powerful to play against and the only reason it isn't run 24/7 even in comp is because your team wouldn't let you hear the last of it muh medium health kit infinite range. weapons like sun on a stick and manmelter i don't consider outright good, but they aren't bad, soas can save you from dying to afterburn (2 damage per hit instead of 3, thats huge) and manmelter has the easiest projectile to track with in the game

Engineer is there to prevent game turning into Scout rushes in a 9-12 player setup. He sets a defense line and helps recovering it.
All other 4 specialists are dependent on Engineer up to a degree.
Sniper have burst damage but requires a shelter.
Pyro is there to sit Engineer and he lacks burst damage.
Spy is simply a parasite which solely exist to counter Engineers.
Heavy depends on healing to endure damage also slow speed doesn't let him sustain ammo fast enough

When you remove Engineer from equation and limit the player teams, you'll be left with 6s gameplay.

I think you're not reading throughly.
They have stronger bond with Engineer, compared to generalists that's what I mention.
Other than that none of the generalist require to hang around Engineer at all.
Perhaps only Demoman have this aspect through Demoknight melees to get feed upon.
Heavy appreciates teleporters because of low mobility, without Medic he can stay next to dispenser and open suppression fire.
Heavy is a counter pocket to Demo and causes a disorientation at the opponent team through over-expanding.
Pyro can't do shit against a good Spy without a goalpost and trying to flank against Scouts is silly.
No sane team picks Spy when there are no Engineers at the opponent team, Sniper always do the pick better.
