Its shocking that anyone was spending money on the game. Not because its a bad game or whatever other reason, but mainly just because its retarded to spend money on it yet. There's no rate up, there's nothing you should spend money on when you can just reroll for now. Spending always goes up during rate ups like always, especially with the first rate up being Gilgamesh who most secondaries know about, but I keep finding it absurd people are throwing money at it at the moment at least. You can get more than enough quartz just going through the story for now.

So far, Agartha has been only enjoyable for the new stuff added to the VN interface. Splitscreens, soliloquy close ups, etc.

Whoever wrote this needs to learn how to cut to the chase. Conversations tend to drag on longer than they actually should, especially when philosophy shows up (Drake Alter spends like half an hour lecturing you about her way of life) but sadly not limited to that (Wu Zetian yammers on and on about what she should call you from now on when she's supposed to be pulling a dramatic escape from a sudden flood). Fergus Lily may as well be replaced with a post-it with Stuff You Wouldn't Expect Fergus To Say written on it. The only thing of interest i've seen of him so far is his curiosity in how the three cities are being ruled because he wants to be king later so he's studying, and that only popped up after taking down Drake.

The writer also committed what may as well be F/GO's cardinal sin: awkwardly shoehorning in the random encounters with AND THEN MONSTERS ATTACKED!!! This stuff needs to happen for the actual gameplay portion, but ever since Camelot or so the plot has either at least poked fun at it (anyone remember the monster that snuck on your car?) or was polite enough to have it happen between conversations instead of interrupting them. Agartha seems to start off well by hinting that these random monsters are running from something, but there's no such justification for the random mobs that attack the Resistance base, and somehow even less justification for getting double teamed by Soul Eaters on the way to the second kingdom. Seriously, Mashu just suddenly picks up enemy readings and you fight.

As for the plot itself, from what I've heard of the spoilers it relies on what I consider to be one of the biggest cop-outs a writer can do to make the story work ("it's supposed to suck, it's all a story in-story!") but I'll withhold judgement till I get there myself. But it hasn't been very exciting so far.

Granted, I mostly just skimmed through the text, but I don't remember Shinjuku feeling as awkward about this than Agartha. It's established early on that Shinjuku is overrun with yakuza and Phantom's puppets and whatnot. It felt less forced to have them show up and fight you with that setting in mind.

Babylon had the exact same setup, and Babylon handled it by either playing up the RPG element by having you go on explicit quests, or by just having the monsters attack you en route to your destination and then not bother mentioning them in the conversation afterwards. There wasn't any "okay let's try to have a conversa- OH NO WATCH OUT SENPAI MONSTERS!" that I can think of, and if it did happen it at least didn't use it as often as Agartha has.

As for the tower scene, it was pretty bland but it was still justified IIRC. You were invading the enemy's HQ. Of course it was full of mooks.
