Personally, being used to DualShock controllers for AC made it very hard to adapt to the clunky XBOX one, so I always had this weird feeling when playing 6, doesn't feel natural like the other titles somehow.

Anyway, all the free DLC is dead, so might be for the best

Some furballs from Infinity like EAS are huge enough for the PS3 to get frame drops, but I still think 6 has better ones due to enemy variety, several operations happening at the same time and the ammount of allies. Maps are bigger too.

Historically the answer was the pilots with the better training. F-8s would routinely win against F-4s in the early years because that was what F-8 pilots trained to do.

Once F-4 pilots were shipped off to top gun, and were taught how to use the advantages of their superior plane, the F-4 pilots almost always won.

I'd do a real technical breakdown but I don't have a lot of info on the F-8. It didn't serve long enough to be notable. If anyone can find an EM diagram of one, that'd be real cool though.
>>
>>181170502
I still can't figure out how to deal with 7B's second phase with the Shock Cannon with the F-4's guns. The plane lacks the raw maneuverability to get long periods of fire onto the target and then escape.
>>
>>181171416

If that means it has actual story then pardon me while I go be furious, because that means levels and assets and dev time and writing and voice acting and all the other work that was NOT spent on the main campaign, literally content taken away from the base game. though I suppose kudos for not half-assing a feature.

If that means it's just basically a minigame on the side with an excuse plot like 5's Arcade Mode, I guess I'm fine with that.

Yes it is.

There are only so many hours in a day. Only so many workers on a project. Only so many GB on a disk yeah yeah digital distribution it still ships on a disk and you fucking know it. And yes, there are limits to a game's budget. There is only so much time that will be spent in, say, making levels, and time spent making levels for VR-exclusive content is time not spent making levels for the main game. Ditto for everything else if the VR game has its own story and shit.

Point is, I don't want to miss any of it because they stupidly made them PSVR exclusive instead of just enabling a VR option.

It's not "Oh, here's ten million dollars for the game. You have five years. Oh, and BTW, you have to do VR as well"
It's "Here's seven million dollars. You have four years. And hey, if you can add VR, we'll give you an extra three mil and a year"
>>
>>181184701

I'm not saying every number behind a game's development is a static, unchanging constant. I know Sony subsidizes development of shit they can tout as exclusive, I know publishers fork for money over in exchange for more features - but there is still an ultimate limit of how much work will be done on the game. For that matter, even taking it as fact that any extra time done to develop the game is perfectly taken up by VR development - I doubt that - that still means the game won't come out for a longer time because they had to develop features I and I suspect a majority of players won't be allowed to play either - which is also a bullshit arbitrary decision, since the VR gameplay doesn't look like it has any good reason to be VR-exclusive rather than VR-optional.

We could be playing Ace Combat 7 right now.
>>
>>181188026
>keep their shit together

>>
>>181188461
Don't apologize. That's the right attitude to have.
>>
>>181188348
It's only been two years since announcement.
I'd prefer they take their time to optimize it and keep quality control tight.
Look at ME: Andromeda for what happens when shit gets rushed.
>>
>>181188348
Who's going to talk louder and have more effect, you or a few million from the guys in suits?
>>
>>181188616
I'm fine with it being delayed until next year because I believe them when they say they need the extra time to get it right. I'm willing to wait longer for a more quality game.

But the studio only has so many people in it, and so many hours in a day. Work on VR is work that delays the game in a way that doesn't benefit me - or if I want to sound less selfish, I suspect it won't benefit a majority of players.

>>181188649
Well obviously they should listen to me. I'm a guy on the Internet.
>>
>>181188348
Yeah man. Do you perhaps suffer from some sort of illness that could see you dead in the next year? Is it a matter of life and death that PA finishes development as soon as possible?

Have you enlisted and will be shipped overseas just before the game is slated to release, risking life and limb in service of your country with the potential that you could pay the ultimate price before you can play your video game?
>>
>>181188735
I could get hit by a bus tomorrow. I could finally give up and shoot myself next week. Or I could spend the next year playing Ace Combat 7 and enjoying a whole new entry's worth of memes with my buddies /aceg/ right now.
>>
>>181188735
To be fair, we do have at least one buddy who is/was in afghanistan. His chopper got nailed with an RPG to boot.
>>
>>181188721
To flip that, if they spent time on only a standard campaign, sure it would come out early, but I suspect a lot of reviewers would naggle over it not having VR content given its genre and the Sony PSVR push. Besides, they could just have easily run into similar delays and pushed it back just as far, and then where would we be?
>>
>>181188721
But VR is really cool
>>
>>181188989
Then we'd have a game with just as much dev time but with it all focused on the core gameplay or the main story. I fail to see how that's a problem.

as much as I hate VR I admit arcade flight sims are a good place for it.

>>
>>181189354
This is a meme. If you have 60 fps and a stationary point of reference (like a cockpit) you won't get motion sickness, unless you already get sick playing regular 3D games
>>181189697
The VR mode is locked at 60fps, they downgraded a lot of the resource intensive aspects to keep it that way.
>>
>>181189798
>>181189823
They must've made some pretty severe cuts to get a game that only runs at ~30FPS normally to run at 60FPS in VR.

I doubt it's texture quality, though - one thing consoles aren't too deficient in is video memory. I bet it's things like lighting, post-process effects, and physics rendering that got the severe cuts. I mean consider this:

https://youtu.be/7mHQ58voy_Y

Surely they can't do too much to those pretty clouds, though, given they seem to be thematically important. Right?
>>
>>181190058
From what people who've played the VR version have said, the clouds and textures have been downgraded.
Its only thematically important to the main game, who knows what the VR campaign will be like.

If this is the AC:I nugget from the last couple threads then I'd say just stick to the planes you have.
Speaking of which, what are you flying?

same guy as before, still flying the black duck as my main and have been mopping up moscow with its AGMs. since the CFA is such massive money sink, what are some other good multiroles? I've been looking at the mig 1.44, but I'm also considering taking my XFA-27 HH past lvl 4.
>>
>>181195057
To be frank with you, I wouldn't bother with the XFA-27 HH, it's not amazing even at high levels, and you'll get far better performance out of other planes of the same level.

I fell for the meme and spent all the money to get it to level 11, and it's still sluggish and underpowered compared to similarly leveled planes.
>>
>>181195553
Also how many Special Supply Tickets do you have? Try to pick up the ADFX-01 -PX- if you can, it's an outstanding plane, especially early on into the game.
>>
>>181195553
How much did it cost to get it that high?
>>
>>181195930
Just under 8 million.
>>
>>181195553
>>181195689
currently have 821 supply tickets. was considering getting the special B1 and something else as well. I've seen a lot of people flying the ASF-X nagase, is that one any good or is the ADFX Pixy significantly better?

ASF-X -NG- is pretty good, but the Morgan starts out with good abilities and only gets better as it levels up, in addition to superior SP weapons. Level costs might be a tad steep, but to me it's worth it.

Here's the chart. It's nothing outrageous, but at your point in the game it could leave you a little tight on cash.
>>

Pretty sure I've posted this one here a while ago, but does anyone have any suggestions on how to make it look less like an overkill Skyly and what to do with the tailplane?
>>
>>181241807
I'd say keep the vertical tailplanes as-is but increase the size of the horizontal ones. The small stabilizers on them should not proture as much.
The cone on the back looks a bit abrupt, a smoother transition with the rest of the fuselage would benefit it.
The canopy looks awfully small, but that might be intentional. Given the scale the aircraft seems to have, I'd say the machine guns should be buried further in the wing.
>>
>>181241807
>>181242108
Scratch the cone thing, I just realized from the filename that it's meant to be another propeller.

>longer horizontal stabs
I might just do that, and make them end a bit more like the wings to make them fit.

>awfully small canopy
It is, might have to make it a bit bigger at some point. As is it's really cramped. But it looks a lot cooler to me when it's small

>cannons
I was going for the british look on those with the long barrels and all.

Put the cockpit a bit forward, maybe? Forward visibility appears to be nil.
Also, why the fins on the horizontal stabilisers?
Other than this, it's marvelous.
I wonder how well it could fly irl, and if you'll ever put this on the Warehouse.

>>181243417
Visibility is about as good as on a La-5 or Spit, which isn't great, but the cockpit is high up enough to make the long nose not too bad. The other Anon is right though, the cockpit is small, which means turning your head around is probably not too easy. Maybe I'll try to get something like >>181242743 going if I can model it.

>fins
No reason, stability is what you could argue, but I'm pretty sure back in the day I just added them because I thought they were neat. Probably going to replace them with a filet anyway.

>IRL
No clue, it would have more than enough power to muscle it's way around the air for sure and the wings are quite large too. But I didn't do any math for the proportions, so who knows if it'd even be stable

>Warehouse
I haven't done that with any of my shit. Much less my few plane pet projects.

The pencil also becomes a compass, a ruler, a pen, can draw perfectly straight lines, can extrude anything you want, and lets you modify anything you select by right-clicking it and choosing "entity information".

Well if you'd given me measurements from the datum at the time that would've turned out less stretched :^)

Best of luck though, it's fun and easy to get into, even if it's a bit of the paint of 3d modelling.

>>181249312
Just use extrude for wings and that stuff. I meant tubes that make curves, like exhaust pipes for piston engines or other really bendy bits. For anything else it's usually faster and easier to just use extrude.

Wings are probably easiest to build akin to real life where you just place a bunch of airfoils for the shape and then connect them.

I've been working towards finding the differences between the Su-37 Terminator and it's AC3 derivate the Super Flanker.
Other than the COFFIN, the differences I found are:
>slanted tips for the vertical stabilizers, which makes it ressemble more a Su-33 rather than a Su-37.
>indents in the canards, perhaps due to higher wing sweep and area
>rounder wing-tip rails, perhaps used for another purpose (probably not a modeling limitation due to finer details on the model)
Did I miss anything?

Here's a little side-by-side I just put together. You got most of it, but two you missed are that there's a longer space between the leading edge of the main wing and the canard on the Super Flanker, and also the Super Flanker has the same little indents the canards have on the trailing edge flaps on the main wing.
>>
>>181251591
The tail stinger is both thinner and longer, too.
>>
>>181252128
Longer LERX on the Super Flanker as well.
>>
>>181251591
There's some discrepancies between the official render and the ingame model, it would seem.
The indent on the canards is not present in the ingame model, for example.
Also, the horizontal stabilizers appear to be shorter or more slanted.
>>
>>181252290
Yeah. I wish there was a top-down view of the official render.

Not to the same degree now that NVIDIA has their pascal shit or whatever it's called. Their new laptop GPUs are generally only marginally worse than the desktop equivalents.

Laptops are still much more expensive for the same amount of performance but at least they're not absolutely fucking atrocious anymore.

That's a good question that I don't actually know the answer to. I know in the case of the F-4 and F-14 The Spook and Tom were designed by artists from McD and Grumman respectively.

As for individual units, I would hazard a guess that the CO would have a certain amount of leeway respective to the wishes of his men, provided that it was in good taste, and could adopt a design to become official. Of course, with contracting military size, there aren't that many new units being stood up, and tradition is so highly valued that we wouldn't see many new emblems replacing old ones except in some cases such as when an aircraft was featured on a unit patch and the unit has transitioned to another.

As for the process of producing patches and such, the inner workings of the military are opaque to me. I would bet they contract that stuff out in this day and age.

Of course, stuff like pic above isn't really official, so it's more likely resulting from private enterprise of some bored yet artistic airman with tacit approval from higher up.

If someone knows for sure, I'd appreciate if they could elaborate.

What about the super planes? Morgan, Falken, Wyvern, Nosferatu, Shinden. if they included them all they'd be a 6th of the roster.
If the Wyvern isn't in the game I'll be really suprised, given that it's an Erusean plane. It'd be nice to see it turn up as an enemy plane during the campaign.

Not sure if completely relevant due to being a different military, but in the Zaragoza airbase (in Spain), a lot of emblems were designed by a guy who works on the maintenance of the C-130 and A400. Designs seem to be made by members of the group they represent, much like mottos (resulting in some stupid and broken sounding ones), then submitted to the higher ups that do the paperwork to make those official.

Scaled the whole thing down quite a bit, which meant making the cockpit bigger and wider. Also moved the rear engine a bit further forward so that the CG is hopefully somewhere in the middle of the plane.

Not much left but making a cockpit and perhaps checking if it actually has space for the internals.

Do you have a single engine running two shafts, or two engines? Do you have an intake/exhaust path planned out?
>>
>>181331140
Tandem engines. The only thing as far as intakes I'm still concerned about is the air for the rear engine, but I might just have that get taken from the radiator intakes in the roots.

I kind of want to avoid to have to put a scoop on the side or bottom if I can avoid it.

>>
>>181331672

>>
>>181331669
Are you planning on air cooled engines, or water cooled? I assume water if you have a radiator in the wing roots.

If you're supplying the air from the second engine with air drawn from there, you're going to have a considerable amount of heat soak, which will greatly reduce volumetric efficiency.
>>
>>181332007
Water, air cooling only really works with radials at that point. Overpowered WW2 tier inlines would probably melt themselves with air cooling.
And I am aware, that's why I'm thinking about what to do. The possibility would be to have the radiator further back in the duct and to split the air beforehand, but that'd probably have it cool really badly. And the other is to pipe air from the front two intakes all the way to the rear, but that'd probably end up being just as bad.

I guess if I want the rear engine to perform like the front one there's not much but to put some intakes on there somewhere. I'd use the stabilizer for aesthetics, but that's in the shadow of the cockpit and won't get much air.
>>
>>181332339
How fast are you planning this to go? Also, what size engine displacement/number of cylibders?
>>
>>181332462
That's not something I've put too much thought into, fast, hence the CRP might get rid of those for slightly less ridiculousness. Engines will probably be the standard V12s, so look for a Griffon or late DB/Jumo engines.

Or just X24s to completely overpower it while making any attempt at cooling futile.
>>
>>181333024
If you want to go full special snowflake, here's a suggestion.

Make the front engine an X-24 since it's driving two props and will get the best cooling being in the front. Bugle the forward fuselage a bit. Skinny up the wing area, and add two side intakes to the rear engine which will just be a v12. Half the X-24 up front if we want to pay lip service to maintenence and supply concerns. Feed it with two air intakes on the sides behind the cockpit.

Now both engines are being fed air, and your plane is roughly area ruled, which will reduce drag as you get up around 600mph.

If you want to really stretch beyond the realm of suspension of disbelief given the apparent tech level, you can have the X-24's exhaust feed into a boundary layer control system to improve lamellar flow, and you go even faster.

That's pretty german in terms of overengineering. I like your thinking. But it's also too snowflakey. I did notice though that I'll probably have way too much empty space, so I might channel the exhaust into a turbo instead of the supercharger. That should work. Picture is just Merlins though because I couldn't find griffons or make a mockup as is. Griffons would be longer.

Explain the area rule to me though, I don't think I remember what that was about.

Basically, image chopping your plane into slices from nose to tail, then measuring the surface area of those slices. The goal is to make the change in area as gradual as possible.
>>
>>181335472
Alright that is new to me. I have to bursh up on my rules of thumb again too. I recall there being quite a bunch for some easy drag, lift and weight calculations.
>>
>>181336485
Also remember to allocate space for fuel, fuel systems, armor, control lines etc.

>>181336812
I need to find figures on fuel consumption for those engines, endurance will probably be horrible. But it'll probably just be a center tank that the pilot sits on/has in front of him.

The gear is my other concern regarding internals. Mostly because of the CG, the placeholder is too far forward I think. But the gear is always a pain to find a good space for in these.

>>181337075
The only real issue is that I don't think sketchup has a function to give you the area of cross sections when you use that tool I used >>181335080 here. So you'd have to manually make the slices to have a reading on that.

Just like it still lacks a function for surface area.
>>
>>181337524
Yeah, your CG is far forward of your center of lift. However, instead of moving stuff around, you can probably solve that by tweaking the horizontal stabilizers on the tail to give it more down force on the rear, which translates to a nose up action restoring stability.

Of course, this means the aircraft will be less responsive in pitch in exchange for longitudinal stability.

I'll get working on some tame design 3-view then.
But then again I have little to no idea about aircraft design when it comes to specs, I might need some guidance to come out of this state of tecnical illiteracy.

Also, open question: How would you buddies power jets if the current sources of fuel were to run dry? Other than batteries with insane power density, which is what I'm going with atm.
In my case there wasn't fuel to begin with, but fuel running low should be a reasonable simile.

Jets, more so than pistons, run on just about anything combustible from what I remember. You'd probably just have to fiddle with the components until it works out again, but you will loose a lot of efficiency by powering them with anything but kerosene.

What are you designing though?
>>
>>181348358
I'd be happy to help if it's within my abilities. It's not the first /aceg/ project I've acted as technical advisor on.

If we assume that there's no gasoline, and also rule out stuff like propane, butane, natural gas, the only things I can think of off the top of my head is nuclear.

If I recall correctly, certain types of coal and animal fat have similiar specific energies and densities, but good luck using them efficiently.
>>
>>181349394
>>181349543
My setting can be summed up as colonial, mid-terraformation, Mars. Thus there are no hydrocarbons to extract. The atmosphere is much thicker than real Mars for flying purposes.
I handwaved the power needs of most vehicles using batteries charged by solar and nuclear power, but the energy density of such a battery would need to be far supperior to what current batteries need.
Fighters engines are essentially jet-tier ducted fans.
I could do props for fighter aircraft instead, but I prefer jets to props.

I'd rather not go full Gundam and send mining convoys to fucking Jupiter to gather a few years' worth of fuel.

Is that art standalone or is it some concept art?

I did put Mars a few steps back technologically for storyline and overall coherence purposes. Mars wasn't meant to be militarized (colonization started as an international effort during world peace), so the best weapons at the start were anti-personel militarized police-tier machine guns and unguided bombs.
There aren't fighter-scale radar early on, but that to avoid them starting with future radar tech and deciding stealth is completely worthless right as they start developing military hardware.

It might be worth noting that Mars is cutoff from Earth for political reasons (read WW3).

>implying THEUNITEDSTATESOFAMERICA are eternal
We're talking late XXII century for the colonization. In the setting, which I staged as a throwback to the Cold War because this is background that will probably never be mentioned, they're once again contested by Russia, now an agricultural power due to fucked up global weather. Because why the hell not, it's not like it matters when the Earth is (mostly) burned by nuclear hellfire by the 2180s.

A really contrived way to set up a world government on Earth and cut off Mars, I'll admit.

It's so wildly different from the book but it's still great

The book had some pretty interesting ideas about a democratic government though.

>you have full human rights except for voting
>unless you serve the government

I dunno, it seems to make sense that you have to put some skin in the game to earn the right to change the system. Is this bad in some way? The system mandates that all people be given a role, provided they apply, so there are no groups who -can't- earn the right to vote.

DCS is a full sim. The prices are hardly worth it though. Unless you really enjoy learning to operate planes because the campaigns and SP are lackluster. A10 and Black Shark are probably still the best ones. Fishbed is also fun because while it's simple, they at least gave it a fuckload of different weapons to use, unlike any of the recent planes that are all just sidewinders and AG stuff.

If you want a jet sim with some SP content amd dogfighting you might want to get Falcon 4 and install the BMS mod. Only has the F16 though. Well and the Hornet, Harrier and Fulcrum with copies of the Falcon's systems IIRC. Keybinds are a nightmare on this one though.

I love that the pop songs featured in every AC game are sung in English while honestly I don't mind with J-pop songs thrown into the mix. It shows that Bamco treats worldwide AC fans the same as Japanese AC fans even with the franchise having relatively small fanbase compared with other mainstream franchises such as MGS and Resident Evil.

It was an attempt to replicate the success of the F-4 as a tri service aircraft. Well, just Navy and Air Force, in order to save costs.

As usual the two services wanted it to do two completely different jobs. The Air Force wanted a long range attack aircraft, and the Navy wanted basically a bigger and better Interceptor than the F-4. It ended up being literally too big and heavy for the Navy so they backed out. Eventually they would get what they wanted, which turned out to be the F-14.

The F-111 turned out to be a pretty good medium bomber for the USAF and was eventually replaced by the B-1 and F-15E.

b2p?

And no DCS isn't really pirateable because it's a DRM fest with keys and activations. You can always just download the steam version or the version from their website incompatible for modules IIRC and play with the free Frogfoot. DCS is also really heavy on ground attackers for some reason. I guess because everyone online just wants to do CAS.

Falcon is like 4 bucks though, or you can grab the falcon4.exe somewhere and just throw that into your BMS mod install for it to work. That's all it needs.

The only issue is again, tutorials and the keybinds are a bit of a hassle IIRC. But that's mostly because I don't know what to bind.

Haven't tried Falcon 4 alone, so perhaps that works unmodded too as a slightly less autismal sim.

The Chimera is the result.

I meant Buy 2 Play, as in a regular fully featured videogame. But it seems the answer is none.

That's awful to be honest. There's really no other simulators that are actually good in which I can fly my planefu?
>>
>>181427709
Well, the modules are that. There's no unlocks or anything. It's F2P like RoF is. Gives you a free plane or two and that's it. Kind of like FSX too.

What is your planefu?
>>
>>181427836
>RoF
>FSX

eh? eh?
My planefu is the Pak-Fa but I'd fly any cool slavshit.
This module crap sound confusing for no reason really. I'll do some research and check it out though, thanks.
>>
I would play some F117, but the game has some really weird issues where it sometimes just locks you out into 3rd person view.
>>
>>181427645
Yes, Thunder adopted it after seeing the poll results.
>>
>>181428282
Don't bother, the only slavshit in DCS worth playing is the Fishbed, and that's probably still 50.-

It follows the standard thing for these simulators, but the pricing for DCS stuff is just really damn high. FSX is Flight Simulator X, and RoF is Rise of Flight, a WWI sim. Point is you can buy planes for those games seperately. Normal these days and not entirely unwelcome, if DCS wasn't so damn expensive.

Pak Fa is probably in no sim, the Flanker is barely in DCS. You could fly the Fulcrum in BMS though. Again for what you want that may be the easiest way because that one you can get for almost no money.
>>
>>181427215
>to do it right

I feel like this is a really unrealistic expectation. The definition of right will always differ from artist to artist because all each person only has some general dimensions and a few previous drawings/renders, all of which contradict slightly each other.

This isn't a problem for real planes which have tons of readily available photographs and blueprints and drawings, but for a plane like this with limited data each artist seems to be going for what looks right to them under the constraints of what data is available.

Really the only way to do it right is to do it yourself, because you're the only person who knows the details you want.
>>
>>181427215
I still want those measurements all done from the nose for all the key parts and width and all.
Because then it shouldn't be too hard to get your CAD draft thing into sketchup or similar. The ones you have were a start, but not all useful.

To be fair though, I still have no clue how the nose is supposed to look and merge into the fuselage.

But >>181429476 also has a point about the details and all.
