That's part of the reason I quit CSGO. Most rounds ended up playing the same with teams using the same strats as everyone else. Spending hours starting at the same doorway is SUPER boring.

Add in the horrible community and lack of updates, and there really isn't a reason to keep playing.

They probably coded it to only have max 2 choices per operator, and changing it would take another half a year of Op Health style code rewriting.

I really wish they'd make it so you could use whatever weapons you wanted on any Operator, within a criteria of type.
It'll never happen because this game's balance partially revolves around ops and their unique weapons. Meta gaming would ruin it but that's how it always is.

This happens to every /vg/ when they get a discord. The only way people from here can coexist is by being anonymous discord turns everyone into a namefag with the actual channel serving as a thread of it's own. Namefagging alone creates drama wherever it happens, but with discord being it's own version of the general it ends up creating an inner circle of people who then take control of the threads because they feel like they are more important than the common anon. It has happened to every general that doesn't just stop at a player list document. Drawfags are the only people that have an excuse to ever use a name and only to identify themselves to their work and should remain anonymous when a name is not needed.

When you play him right, he's a make or break win or lose operator.

When everyones good at the game then what you really need isn't an operator to go 50/50 maybe win maybe lose the round with. You need a guy to stop the other team from getting to the objective.

That's where smoke comes in. His smoke is OK at killing people, especially a shield user, but his real talent is creating a barrier that people cannot pass through without taking damage and being blinded.

So at silver+ he's someone you'll start to see a lot of because the game evolves above just team death match.

Don't put yourself in line-of-sight of the attacker. For example, if attackers are about to come through a door, don't run in front of the door to throw the smoke bomb at their feet. Throw it at (your side) of the door frame, or through the door at an angle while you're still in cover.

As said previously, use smoke to cut off their path. Unless they're huddled in a corner, throwing a smoke at someone's feet will do little damage as they can just walk away. The idea is to force them to move away from an area, not kill them outright (although it can).

Wire. It slows everyone down to one-speed, meaning they spend more time in the deadly smoke cloud, but more importantly the sound alerts you to where someone is. See the door-frame example at top? Also, Shotguns can do most of the role of impacts, such as making a hole to throw smoke bombs through, and Smoke can pair his shotgun nicely with his SMG-11 secondary.

Having operators with different inherit characteristics, besides their speed/armor, would change Siege into a different type of game. The things we have that nullify other operator's abilities, like Cav silent step vs. Jackal tracking, are themselves abilities, and not built-in automatic effects.

I actually play Ranked like its Casual, using the same tactics I found that worked. I got stuck in high silver - low gold for the longest time and I think the reason I advanced enough is because of how unpredictable I was when most of the people in these tiers think about strategies some youtuber told them. Alot of fights with the randoms on the team too.

So for example a window that might be worth Castle'ing+Mute'ing if you pick Castle and Mute while defending 3F East Kanal is the one where I placed the purple dot.

That way if you have a guy playing prone behind the computers, he's going to get a fairly lengthy/loud warning that someone is trying to root him out of there by using that window.

But like you see, the places where a viable Castle window exist are very few and far between, and largely depend on your strats.

Most of the time you want to use him to create funnels and paths of least resistance that the enemy goes through, or at least you force them to expend resources/time on your obstacles. Don't Castle the objective doors, specially if you have roamers. The worst thing in the world is trying to retake a site after a dumbass Castle dies and you come back to find the flank door blocked.

I play Castle sometimes, because people rarely expect it.

I usually use Castle doors to waste time. Putting them on common access routes away from the objective, to mess with people's standard strategies.

Also, saving a Castle door until the last minute and then using it to block off the objective from where the enemies are coming from or forcing them to funnel through one access route can be an outright game winner.
