Relays were originally meant to be a social hub where people could ERP and group for missions, so the various levels of MR-gating was meant to be a cool kids club thing. I think they were eventually planning on differentiating them in various ways, but never got it and destroyed half of them instead. But since it's laggy as fuck, you can do practically nothing in terms of inventory/character managerment from there, and they swiftly fixed all the fun out-of-bounds tricks that you could do like the insecure fucks they are, people quickly abandoned them and only jumped in when they were forced to because DE put some shop or mission hub that can only be accessed from there in order to justify its existence.

How do you easily deal with sentients and, by extension, the second stalker?
My Tigris has like Blast, Toxin and Slash with a ratio of about 60/20/20, and a Broken War with Radiation and Cold (and of course slash but way less than on the Tigris), and my secondaries are so shit it's not worth mentioning. Once they get to 3 resistances it's about over for me because it will take an inordinate amount of time and ammo to deal with even one. Trying to melee either one is impossible even with Rhino, unless I want to die 3 times for every sentient I fight.

Not speaking about the Stalker then, unless I'm in a pub there's no way I can deal with him. It doesn't matter anyway, he will probably spawn when I'm in an interception or defense mission to fuck it up, and OHKO me out of nowhere.

See prior pocket sand comment, also just bring different element combos on your three weapons, and swap out. I have less difficulty with them as i do stalker, but the tactic is the same - keep a decent amount of distance, dump bullets into them, avoid attacks, get to the other side of the room when they get close, repeat. I barely use the tater thing you get after the war within personally, I usually just overcome the damage resistance through attrition.

Because one handed swords have garbage ancient animations and Galatine Prime is pretty good for what it is. Personally I'm a weeb Nikana whore because of its crazy good balance of speed, damage, and precision but I guess other people prefer the meta.

Also remember that people eventually tire of the meta and move on to using things they find fun or more fitting to their playstyle, or looks better on their fashionframe. That's why I use Dragon Nikana with my Wukong even though I've got a Nikana Prime and they're built identically.
