Is the AI supposed to be retarded in stellaris? I've been kiting this xeno scum's entire fleet with two troop transports entering his territory from two different sides at regular intervals while rebuilding my own fleet to whack him. The retard doesn't seem to have any notion of splitting his ships into groups. I managed to even occupy some of his planets with my non-fleet while all his forces were in the other part of his domain. Did I accidentally pick easy or is this a feature of xeno intelligence?

If I recall correctly the virtuals themselves, before they went all warfare-murder type, spent a lot of their time seeking higher sensations (not unlike the Eldar).
So if the Vodyani used their designs, their suits probably are well outfitted for more carnal undertakings.

Conquest I assume is the "colonize 50% of the galaxy" sort of deal. In that case, you just gotta grab a shitton of approval upgrades up to and including colony level approvals.
I always found it weird because in an attempt to take over every capital system I accidentally win via conquest instead because I take a shitton of systems leading up to their capitals.

There are happiness thresholds around which colony throws a hissyfit. You can bribe them with lux or supress with manpower. In case of Rel law I recommend supression.

Have you changed laws TO 70% always happy law recently? Because rebellion doesn't always go away due to happiness before you hit end turn. And it may be even possible to that you will have to put them down manually.

Usually you either have high enough happines or don't have mutinies at 70 happines.

Already works that way. You cant make an optimal faction for conquest that is ideal for passive expansion. Same applies to diplomacy or building tall.

I'm not a fan of how ES2 handles combat, but its still better than Stellaris albeit only a small amount so.

If we're talking alternatives to ES2 combat, I think the way SoSE handled it would be more ideal.
Not as micromanagement oriented as gothic, but still intuitive enough to make things interesting.
Plus since movement is relatively the same as it is now you'd still be able to use autoresolve for similar results.

I agree. If I want epic battles I play TW and Battlefleet Gothic. Warfare in the game is on a macro level of strategy instead of micro, which allows you more fleets and fighting accross the entire galaxy if it comes to it.

There is an achievement on steam to "Win by eliminating all the other empires". I have murdered literally everyone in my Vodyani game, even killed off all the minor factions for each case, but I am neither getting a victory screen, nor an achievement. It is an achievement different from the one to take over all the capital cities.

Except when facing a cruiser or battleship with shields, sure. 1000 naked corvettes can't kill 20 shielded cruisers, no amount of coilgun corvettes will kill a shielded cruiser with two capacitors and class 5 shields. If you try to test it, you need to remove the FTL from the AI's corvettes because it'll try to escape rather than fight, the corvettes won't be able to do any hull damage when forced to fight.

The naked corvette meme is great against things with no shields though, like non-technological leviathans or Prethoryn.

You can get early wonders on deity btw. Even GL with the right start and some luck.

in civ5 pre-bnw it is overpowered to go for ICS since there was no tech penalty from #cities.
There was a social policy cost penatly, but that has pretty much always been overcome with new culture from cities and policies.
Especially pre-bnw when the culture buildings gave so much more culture.

If you see the tile yield of the city, and all its buildings you should really start seeing how much value you get out of getting more cities per tile.

I played an MP game as the vods and felt untouchable the entire game in my space castles.

Early game I ate Horatio until I had like, 5 Arks, then I transitioned in to planting my ass on every 5 planet system I could find. If I was concerned about another player, I'd just fly over and Holy Warred them until I felt I slowed down their progress enough.

By the time other players were even imagining revving up carriers I had already dominated the stars, practically speaking. The others conceded. Are the Deus Vultyani broken, or am I just busy admiring that perfect dust ass?

The other players were UE, mafia fish, Ayyyys and trees, AI filled in the other factions.

Because you need a simulationist RPG, not a theme park for that. And because for that to be good you probably want it to be with other players.

That being said there is a number of OS CRPGs that try. BG1/2, Torment (old one does it better, but new one has better gameplay), Follout 1/2. They all generally have a main quest that you have to do to progress the story, but you can always flip the bird and go your own way. Obsidian's tyrrany deserves special mention, while you are stuck with being who you are in it, the game focuses heavily on being able to offer multiple paths to progress along, each short, each well developed with it's own unique choices.

On the other hand TES and new Follout series offer that sort of thing a plenty, but have depth of a puddle.

What happens after that depends on what you are gonna be doing in the meta quest. As I said, you aren't forced to either side with Hierarch commenting that's while the church hardliners are no longer in power, church is still their government, and Vodyani still need a future, and will do what's best for Vodyani. I'm not really sure if I'm going about the early game right in Stellaris.
I always research passives to start, split up my starting fleet and have them scout each nearby star for habitable planets. In the meantime I make a second research ship and have the pair of them scan planets that are or eventually will be within my home planet's influence, then have them scan any habitable planets for details. Construction ship drops mines on any minerals it can.
Where do I go from there? What if there aren't any decent 15+ planets nearby? Can I settle on colonizing good-sized planets not of my climate type and/or category, or will the slowed growth and happiness cap really make that much of a difference early game?

Okay, here's how you do it. Make two fleets of reasonable size, both with some transports. Position one fleet at the rightmost planet bordering Xaplo, put the other one at the leftmost. Keep making the cheapest armies at both those planets and regularily send them as far as you can into Xaplo territory from two sides. The retarded AI will chase the one-ship transport AT ALL TIMES with his BIGGEST FLEET. While the bigass fleet is away try to grab some of the bordering planets on the sly. Alternatively crush the faggy vassals. If your one-ship decoys stop dying pull your strike fleets out ASAP and wait until the retard AI switches his attention to decoys again. Rinse and repeat this dumbfest of micro-boredom until you have more planets than the federation and can afford a bigger fleet than the one they have. At this point give a decisive battle and win it. After this realize how dumb this game is and uninstall it.

Played ES2 for about 100 hours so far. The biggest weakness of this game seems to be the limited axis of interaction between your and enemy empires, both in terms of combat and diplomacy. Right now you can easily bribe everyone except for the cravers into peace and then take them out in wars one by one. And even if a powerful alliance declares war on you all you need is to find one member who wants something you have and you instantly enter a truce. We need a more aggressive, malicious, and unpredictable AI, as well as more diplomacy options in general (for example, an ability to bribe an empire into declaring war to another one, being able to directly ask Unfallen to stop vining your place up or Vodyani to stop feeding off of your population, etc). Right now every game feels the same with all the AI races acting the same way every time.

I think you want to elevate it's diplomacy to /gsg/ level, which is in my oppinion simply wrong direction for this game, as it's a very committed fast paced (everything is relative) 4x, where such interactions would be an annoyance, not a benefit. While occasional alliance breaking due to shifting interest might make sense what you are proposing is simply out of scope for this title, in my opinion.

Because I am autistic, I have actually done the math, and concluded that mono-output planets in Stellaris (i.e. just minerals, just energy, just research) are a false economy. Even if you stack genetic traits and output-boosting buildings, respecting tile bonuses always brings you better percentage resource gains than ignoring them and carpeting the planet in one kind of facility.

I humbly recant my previous posts on the matter (although with the proviso that this is fucking stupid - that Babby's First Economy is in fact the most sophisticated one and there is no reward for planning or specialisation, demonstrating once again that Paraducks can't balance for fuck)

cities work 100% differently. A city exploits the tiles encircling it, and to increase the exploited tiles you need to build districts.

A very good choice, approval+industry are one of the best combos of the game, but do you see that purple crystal 3 tiles up from your city? That would add a good deal of industry on top of that. So it might have been a better idea to settle on the other side and then expand towards a river. But that's just for future settles.

Also if you hit F or a button in the buttom right of the screen you will be shown tile yields.

The booze baron trait makes the game easy, since it allows you to sell alcohol for 2x as much. For the first few years I would build a foreign aid tent to cover medical service. Always build a church as soon as it's needed because there's a large religious faction. The nationalists and loyalists can be made happy by building an el presidente childhood home museum. Use "skilled workers only" immigration policy by building a migration office, that'll help with the high school educated workers without having to build a highschool, you'll still have to build one later on.

After you've build your alcohol factory and are churning out exports you will have no money problems.

I tried a lot of games.
Void Destroyer has too much Engrish, Strike Suit Zero is too arcadey, and I remember a third one that had potential where you build a town in space and improve it, but I can't remember the name. There are a shitload of others shooters/trading games like the X games, but I won't list them all. Not here, anyway. Maybe on /indie/.
There's also Space Pirates and Zombies, I remember the second game being very promising as well, with hilarious text-to-speech voices, and I think it actually had some strategy.
It's sad to say, but I think I ultimately just want Freelancer. And I can't, because it doesn't run on my computer.

Mines are great for early game quick cash. Require no education and require little infrastructure. Make sure the mining road is not going through the main area of your settlement to prevent traffic jams. Like have a road going from the mine to the port, with a branch leading to your residential area.

Standard "pirate before you buy", but yeah. It's the only 4x space RPG I can think of. I'd argue that it's more of an RTS space RPG since it's a pre-made map and you can explore all of it in a few hours in a fast ship.

This is three games now, I KNOW they're producing far more minerals than is possible because I can take control of them via console commands and SEE their mineral production.

There are far better games to play that don't have things that are THIS shit, if I wanted a multiplayer game I'd pick from the range of ones that are just flat superior.

It's all good if you have a choice, but if you are forced into a war against an enemy that by every single game mechanic says should NOT be able to outproduce or beat you, but does anyway, it's just fucking retarded.

It's obviously a call for a game restart, but it's just Stellaris's really obtuse design shining through.
They've done something to fleet AI that now seems to make alien fleets attack all your non-home star mining stations then return home, they even seem to push themselves well over fleet cap and produce more minerals than me despite objectively having worse planets, worse worlds and worse systems. It's essentially just an instant 'you lose' button and I'm struggling to figure out why that's even happening when upon inspecting what's going on, it's just the AI receiving huge bonuses out of nowhere.

So I guess the idea is to constantly restart games until you get peaceful and non-advanced starting neighbours, not to play fanatic purifiers and generally to exploit the flaws of the game to counteract other flaws?

Not surprising Stellaris has come such little distance since it was first released but it's disappointing nonetheless. It was worth a couple of playthroughs but it's just shockingly hollow under the surface.

Depends entirely on the race you're playing.
Vodyani and Unfallen expansion is slow as BALLS, Lumeris is slightly slower depending on your starting build, and sophons/horatio are average.
Your holy trinity of fast expanders is UE, Riftborn, and Cravers, thanks to the FIDSI bonuses they get early on.
