>What the fuck is this
/indie/ is the general for all indie games, such as LISA, Yume Nikki, OFF, Middens, Underrail, OneShot, Age of Decadence, Machinarium, DashBored, Vampire of the Sands, Braid, Limbo, Axiom Verge, Guacamelee, The Desolate Hope, Burrito Galaxy, Gone Home, Stardew Valley, etc. as well as other games that just don't fit in any other general such as Atelier, Rayman, Pillars Of Eternity, Rise Of Nations, and Valkyria Chronicles. Absorbed the /lite/ general some time ago.

Mobile or consoles, flash or unity, freeware or early access. This place is a home for the indie game community and indie and obscure games that don't have a home. So be free to talk and share all your hidden gems, forgotten games and starving devs here.

>Can I talk about games that already have a general?
We mostly discuss games that are not popular enough for their own threads (since they have no other home in /vg/), however, all indie games are allowed. So talk about them if you want, but don't overdo it since you already have other generals for that.

>How can I contribute?
All we need right now is people to talk about their loved indie and miscellaneous games, so don't be afraid to post, bump and reply your fellow anons. Also we're looking for anons to make new pastebins/wikis/images and update the ones already made. And please give lots of feel, love, kind and nice to everyone, except namefags. And be sure to make a new thread if nobody else does.

check out some youtube guides on movement and aiming. frothyomen has some good ones.
otherwise, practice really. youll get better the more you play. everyone starts out shit. just gotta keep in mind that the movement system in this game is fundamentally different than stuff like cod or battlefield. cant just run on the ground, gotta make use of walls as much as you can.
>>
checking /in/
>>
>>180764539
i'm actually okay at the movement
not amazing, but alright
it's clicking on people that's hard

also: have the guns been balanced better yet?
>>
>>180765105
depends, when have you last played? respawn is slow, but they listen and try their best to balance. doesnt always work and there are one or two guns that are truly overpowered, but overall the balance is much much better than it was at launch.
the titans, minus scorch(who only shines on two maps), are fairly well balanced now. tone is no longer overpowered.
as for guns, the R97 is straight up overpowered. the rest of the SMGs are top tier guns and are better than the others, but not by much. you can play and win with any weapon. i have 4 loadouts that i play, mostly grenadier weapons: coldwar, EPG, softball and L-STAR.

anyway, if aiming is hard for you then you can try the following: go into windows and change your mouse sensitivity to 6 ticks in and uncheck "enhance pointer precision"(another name for mouse acceleration, which is bad.).
after that, youll want to gradually reduce your mouse DPI and ingame sensitivity.
i think standard mouse DPI is 1600 or something. try reducing it to 800 and ingame sens -1 from whatever it is. play several matches and see how it feels and go from there. keep reducing both and testing for several games until it feels right.
this can take a while, days to weeks, but it pays off in the end. totally turned my aiming around.

oh and a large mousepad helps. steelseries sells 15x15 mousepads for like $15. you need a large mousepad if you are going to play on low sensitivity

tl;dr: balance is good, lower your sensitivity to aim better
>>
>>180766431
I stopped playing as the thread was in the throes of discovered the power of scorch. The main balance thing I remember was that SMGs were just strictly better than ARs in all cases, and there was one I think LMG that had zero spread on the first few shots. Grenadier weapons are fun though, spinfuzor for days
>>
>>180766803
>the thread was in the throes of discovered the power of scorch
funny thing is scorch was never strong, its always been the weakest titan. /tfg/ plays it to be the special snowflake, thats it.
the SMG you speak of was the volt, it was nerfed. it has some recoil now, bout the same as other SMGs. the LMG was the devotion, which was horribly overpowered; this was also nerfed and brought inline with other weapons.
ARs are still a bit of a problem. they are better at long range than SMGs(and not by much), but thats about it.
spinfuzor got some buffs, its pretty great. biggest buff being projectile speed. much easier to hit fast pilots and titans at mid range now with it

So I tried Subnautica.

It's pretty brutal at first, but actually a lot easier, compared to Don't Starve.
I did have some issues finding salt and sulphur, and I'm worried about running out of titanium and batteries, but otherwise, getting health, food and water isn't that complicated.

I do wonder if the fishes are randomized from one game to another.

Depemds on what you are looking for. Even some SGS traders like Ezra carry 100+ quality components. And in general mid/late game faction traders tend to have better than average selection.

>>180777365
Right now I'm looking for really high quality (130+) chimera, marauder, horet frames and smart modules.

Smart modules are rare and merchants don't usually sell them and I still haven't seen a 130 quality assault rifle frane

In a less shitposty subject involving OneShit, what did you choose the very first time you played the game?

I actually choose to return the sun. I did sympathize with Niko and felt bad about stranding him in the world, but after seeing and hearing about the state the world was in; how the ground was falling into the ocean and how all the light in the world would go out within a few months, I wanted to give the world a chance at survival even if some people were convinced it wouldn't matter.

Of course, this was before the Solstice route gave more context to what exactly is going on in the world.

>I'm looking for really high quality (130+) chimera, marauder, horet frames and smart modules

That's unrealistic. 130+ components are a real rarity. If you have the favor of the RNG gods you might find it as loot, but on merchants? Not fucking likely. I have done some running around, and the only 130+ weapon component I found was a Hurricane frame on Hanna in the Institute. So the good news is, it s not impossible to get lucky. The bad news is that even this Hurricane frame was special merchandise, so good luck waiting for hitting the jackpot if you can't access it.

Your best bet is Deep Caverns. If you have the skill to craft it without house bonus maybe you'll be able to find one. It's a big maybe, components in DC can come from either end of the quality scale, but your chances are significantly better here.

>I don't think you could clear with zero skills, though.

Here you go. Sometimes I wonder if I'm truly autistic.

>I think you can get Benny's amulet with a word of honor check

You can't, you must pass a persuasion or streetwise check after it.

>I don't know if you could clear the temple with zero skills.

There is nothing in the temple that absolutely needs to be cleared. The game allows you to turn back and trigger the ending at the elevator without having to fight the constructs. It gets you the exact same ending as if you turned back at the sarcophagus, so it's good enough if you weren't planning to fight anyway.

So the game can be finished without any skill, which means that even if you get stuck with your guild questline or something else, you can still reach an ending. Not necessarily a satisfying one, but still an ending.

Unless you are a Daratan praetor, at least. If you get stuck before Antidas would stop cockblocking you and just hand you the map, you are truly stuck.

What did you guys think of pic related?

I just finished it and thought it was awesome, especially the puzzle portions. The fake Steam chat notifications got me for like a solid 2 minutes, never felt stupider in my life. My only gripes are the action parts got kinda repetitive (and a little two easy) and the ending wasn't as cool as I expected. Other than that, it's my kinda game and a solid 9/10
>>
>>180801069
It was kinda neat, but I'm bitter and worn out on meta-game indie games so my perception on it is less rosy than it should be
>>
>>180801753
Do you have similar thoughts when it comes to Undertale or OneShot?
>>
Not sure if this is the general to ask, but does anyone know if "Where They Cremate the Roadkill" became a thing yet. It's a game by the dude that did Midden's and Gingivia. Last update was back in May.
>>
>>180752628
Cave story+, just got to last cave
>>
>>180801840
Undertale is (or at least feels) a lot bigger than OneShot, and relies on its "meta" aspects a lot less than Pony Island, so it doesn't suffer the same retrospective jadedness. OneShot does, though, which is PROBABLY unfair considering its free version came out before Undertale (though after its demo).

I think the jadedness is also because I literally JUST beat OneShot. Might also come because I had an idea for a "meta-game" game that I really want to make someday when I get off my ass, but this is like the third successful one I've played in the last two years that used those ideas. Oh well, I'll get over it.
>>
I feel like Undertale and Pony Island are really the only games recently that have done meta-game right.

I fucking hate games that use the whole "whoa, were in a video game!" as plot and use it to not fucking explain anything (Sunset Overdrive, Let It Die)
>>
>>180804357
Isn't Let it Die about people playing Let it Die though?
>>
>>180804357
What did OneShot do wrong? I think it executed it well enough, despite my bitterness I talked about. It helped that it 1. explained itself and 2. had a really cute world and cast to back it up
>>
>>180804357

Thoughts on Kero Blaster too?

It was good, but that's about it. Shooting shit is fun and the level design was great. Refreshing to see linear, lives-based gameplay again. Music is good, but doesn't touch Cave Story's soundtrack.

Has some weird balancing issues though. Yellow (the default blaster) is really bad compared to the others until you max it out. Green is way too powerful, it's the blaster you want 95% of the time. Weird difficulty spikes at White Labs and final FINAL boss. Overall worth your time for the original game but new game+ probably not worth it.

Best thing about Kero Blaster imo was how it was just a fun time and rejected the "cute little plushie creatures have a sad story where one of them gets molested or something and the music's really sad" genre that Cave Story helped create. Very bracing.

Necrodancer itself is a super solid game. Haven't played the DLC, but depending on what the DLC actually adds, you'd probably want to get the DLC.

If it's like Binding of Isaac, for example, once you beat the non DLC shit, you just don't even care anymore. DLC's not really enough to merit coming back. BUT if you had it from the start, it would have been a neat package of extra shit...

>Bomb the first construct at hellgate and then walk through lasers to avoid the rest?

Nope, sadly that's not possible. You still have to walk through the 3 laser beams, but if you go through Hellgate you can't get around fighting two regular constructs in addition to the weak one. When you open the bridge door it instantly initiates combat with both the bridge and the hallway construct, even if the hallway door is closed and the construct is at the far end of the hallway.

My original plan was to run up to the bridge construct, bomb it, then make a run for the elevator before the other could catch up, but Vince predicted my cop-out, and made it so that bombs fall through the holes in the bridge and land in the lava. Motherfucker.

So I had to find a way to kill three of these fucking things, and unfortunately I couldn't come up with a strategy that completely eliminates savescumming.

Getting past the weak construct is fairly simple. With 10 perception if you let it move first, you can get around ~49% THC on it with a heavy crossbow. With iron regular arrows you can buy from the fletcher in Maadoran it takes about three-four hits to kill it. With 12 dexterity and the right positioning, you can get in 6 shots before it could attack for the first time, and you can survive about two to four turns without proper armor if it hits you.

But this strategy doesn't work for regular constructs, since your skill-less THC against them is 1%.

The ideal situation would be having 4 bombs, that would more or less guarantee your victory. But without skills paying Harmon in the slums to let you through is near impossible, so that leaves you with the two weak bombs in Teron.

I started with thief background because I was hoping to grab the two strong ones from the guild then after digging up some money from the well in Maadoran come back and get the weak ones, but I could gather enough money only for one before I ditched the guild.

>when you skip leg day so hard you lose your legs
>>
>>180828856
So my money was enough for a strong bomb, two weak bombs, two healing salve, and two heavy crossbows with iron regulars.

The correct positioning for taking on these two separately is standing in front of the hallway door then taking one step to the side when the construct noticed you, and for the bridge one walking back to the laser, then moving to the wall.

And here comes the savescum part, the rest of the strategy relies on getting critical strike with the bomb, which knocks them down and gets your THC with the crossbow to ~91%.

So
weak bomb - weak bomb - shoot
and
strong bomb - shoot - unequip - equip second crossbow - shoot

Bombs have 75% CS chance, so it's not that unreliable. If the first weak bomb gets CS, another option is to risk an artery strike with ~76% THC then unequip/equip for a second shot, and save the second bomb for the other fight.

This could be done with only the two weak bombs everyone can get in Teron, but then the strategy depends on the 1x75% CS in both fights, and I wanted to keep the rng's role to the minimum.
>>
>>180785432
How did you reach the temple?

Portal in Zamedi is out of question since you don't have lore+INT=19.

Dead River seems impossible as well- while you could get the Feng's amulet to activate the bridge, you don't have the lore/crafting to do so. You can't win against the scorpions either.

The CON penlaty tells me you reached it through Hellgate. In Hellgate you have no way of bypassing the first construct since you have no lore to use the Nullifer and no talking skills to hire a merc. You can kill it with bombs/liquid fire I guess.

You can then bypass the 2 constructs by going through the lasers. You can avoid the patrolling contruct with good timing anf get the key, but then there is another construct between you and the entrance to the Temple.

Did you kill it with bombs/liquid fire too? Is there even that much of them to be found with no skills? Or is it possible to block their way with liquid fire and interact with the entrance while in combat?
>>
>>180829014
Nevermind, should have read the thread first.

>>180828856
>>180828958
Have you considered the scoped regular/heavy crossbows you can buy from the Fletcher? Snipe costs a lot more AP to use true, but it also boosts your THC and CS substantially.
>>
>>180828509
Yep, it totally does.
>>
>>180829371
Heh, I beat you by less than a minute. Who refreshes before posting a reply they just finished typing?

Yeah, I have considered scoped crossbow. It is fantastic against the first construct, gets your THC up to 88% and might take it down in only two hits with its high CS bonus,

But the regular ones move too fast. They get two consecutive turns on their first turn, which rapidly drops the THC down to unusable levels. It's not very high to begin with.

I couldn't afford one after the three bombs, but with only two that 20% close range bonus it gives could make up for the difference. Two snipes is better than two arterial strikes in this case.
>>
>>180830546
But now that I think about it, I have forgot to consider another combo.

High constitution with DR 11 Iron Imperial armor you can buy from the armor trader can keep you alive for a couple of turns, it can completely negate their flurry attack. So with the 21% THC of a scoped crossbow, you might be able to kill the construct before it kills you.

It's kinda savescummy, and you are going to need some healing salves afterwards, but it's more reliable in that even a player who have already used up every single one of the bombs earlier in the game can do it.

Anons who have been playing the Card City Nights 2 beta, what are your thoughts so far?

Seems like it could be really fun game, but after playing a couple of dozen games I've started to realize that the balance is pretty fucked and favors damage on placement and silencing/removing/otherwise nullifying opponent's cards over playing the game the way it was actually intended with link chains and damage on resolve. They really need to sit down and figure out how to make multiple playstyles and builds viable or this game's meta will collapse on itself within a week after release.

Jennys are cute though.

I agree that trying to turn a fun little crossover game into a serious card competitive card game would be wasted effort, but it'd be fun if it actually succeeds at offering some degree of depth and variety instead of getting instantly solved. CCN is fun and unique spin on TCGs and actually having a reason to regularly come back to it after beating it is a nice bonus.

It's still early access, but compared to others survival games, it's pretty easy. It's actually more focused on exploration than real survival.
And while being easy, it does get on your nerves sometimes, because a few things are difficult to figure out without guides.
For example, salt deposit isn't obtained by treating sea water, but it's randomly dropped. Same with lithium, which is important for crafting. And also, I don't know how you can charge up batteries, and they're pretty expensive to make, since they use non-renewable items, such as copper.
The UI also heavily reminds me of Slime Rancher.

Though to answer your question I returned the sun because it seemed like the right thing to do. I didn't think about it that much because based on the news section of the game, I was pretty sure that there was supposed to be a bonus chapter for people who circumvented the OneShot mechanic of the game and I correctly guessed that the choice ultimately wouldn't matter.

That being said, I could only imagine how it must have felt for people who played the game back in December or even just the freeware version within the last two years.
>>

>>
>>180885120
I remember in the Solstice route when Niko basically asked me to remember the very first time we traveled the world; "a long time ago". I'd say that line was clearly intended for people who had known about the game all this time and not someone like me who discovered the game back in May because /indie/ started talking about it.

You charge batteries by creating a charging station in your base. It then transfers the power from your base into the batteries.

Then you gotta go out and hunt for the blueprints.
>>
>>180888050
Hunt for blueprints? What?
>>
>>180888270
Basically you need to find items in the world and use your scanner on them to get part of the blueprints. That is how you gain the ability the construct them. They have a tendency to be in ship wrecks, but some of them are placed out in the open.
>>
>>180888474
Nobody told me this.

They'll have to fix that later.
>>
>>180888726
How do you even get the habitat constructor without scanning?
>>
>>180891836
By scanning lifeforms. I though that was like Metroid Prime, as in you mostly scan animals and ressources, and that the rest is just for flavour text and completion.

And the flavour text itself is too short.

That part isn't really an issue, but if your venting gives directly on the outside, you'll consume a lot of energy in the summer.

Instead, if you have passive cooler, make it so that the hot air is sent to a room with 3, maybe 4 passive coolers. Passive coolers keep the temperature at 15°c, so you'll take less power to keep the temperature in your freezer at -10.

Toady priorities adding new features above everything else. Which is a really shitty practice and the reason why the game is permanently buggy.

Pretty sure that's because it's a one man job that's been in production for over a decade.

>>180922876
It's Gud
I don't really like the combat but that's probably mostly due to my being fuckin bad at it
>>
>>180922002
I repeat, there is nothing wrong with the UI, but that's assuming everyone uses DFHack - there is no need for toady to reinvent its functionality.

The UX is shit though, aka the game is hard to get into. But that's just because it's a CLI rather than GUI and there's nothing wrong with that inherently. The UI is a good complement for the content. Developing a more casual-friendly (G)UI would require sacrifices on the depth of the content. Again, Rimworld is a perfect example of this.

PS. Replying to whole posts sentence by sentence is a bad practice. It often leads to missing the overall point and nitpicking details. Not in this case, but just saying.

* When I won a fight (escaping after stealing gold), my partners physically blocked me from leaving (dev helped me out).
* During a fight late game, I kept getting error pop up dialogues talking about a missing script
* Loading the game in a specific minor scene fucked up the lighting
* When fighting a demon you can make a run for the door. You get EXP and it changes scene... to exactly where you were, still in combat. No way to actually exit (dev helped me out again!).
* There were several (!) doors were the devs didn't expect you open because it made more sense to do something else. The doors triggered the wrong scene (specifically: the same scene that they triggered when you first went through them).
* There seems to be a bug when talking to a loremaster that leads to you not being able to identify something (a power cell), if you did some other event first. Lead to me not being able to trigger yet another event.
* When you change area and your mouse is pointing at an interactable object, the name label remains until you move your mouse

I'm surprised you didn't run into anything.

Sorry for the late response. I'm not entirely positive. Starbound's graphics are much more modern, and the whole experience feels more polished. There is a (loose) story and a tutorial in Starbound, that I also like a ton.

In terms of identical gameplay, I have to disagree. Terraria is (in my experience) much more gamey in the classical sense, where you're upgrading your equipment and stats to take on new challenges, whereas Starbound has exploration and creation as the prime objective. For example, I only had to upgrade my armor twice to beat the "story" of Starbound, and I used about five weapons. The EPP is another good example, only needing to upgrade it two or three times, and only if you want to access extra planets. There is hardly any challenge in Starbound.

But he's right. You only need a farm, a wall gate, and beds to run a successful fort. From there it's you trying out different things for your own amusement. And no, looking up a wiki doesn't make a game hard. It means the game doesn't properly teach its mechanics to the player. I hope no one fucking thinks Minecraft is hard (IIRC that has a tutorial now).

Just finished Satellite Reign, ending was pretty interesting

The game had a shitton of bugs and balance issues, though, but apparently it was made by a very small team? Like five people or something? That's pretty good for such small team, I guess.
>>
>>180979104
They added online co-op a relatively significant amount of time after release, and for that alone I feel like they deserve some praise, though as I'm writing this it occurs to me that maybe the game got kickstarted and it was a stretch goal or something.

>>
>>180979461
>although I would recommend against playing it in coop because it ruins the mood of the game.
Please elaborate. It's a game about a squad of corporate agents in a cyberpunk dystopia. Playing co-op enhances the mood, if anything.

I don't know how far you are, but I got a link to a save that has the dynamite guy in garbage island killed. It doesn't give you more resources, but he gives a bunch of XP that makes clearing the garbage island section of the game easier, and even makes the rag worms killable.
>>
>>180979818
Well, the game has a somewhat serious tone which is a bit hard to maintain in coop
Since you're technically immortal with very little penalty for the death or getting caught, corporate agents turn into total fucking psychopaths
>giggling when sneaking past guards
>performing stealth assassination on a busy street with a rocket launcher
>causing infighting between factions to see who will win
>framing your team mates because AI sometimes gets confused
>berating support because world scan affects everyone on the team
>repeated suicide bombing
>shooting cameras to get your teammates caught
>pulling a leeroy jenkins while someone else sneaking through a heavily defended compound
>scaring civilians so they cross DO NOT CROSS lines at checkpoints and getting them killed by sentry guns
>making fun of a teammate who falls of a zip line four times in a row
>screaming "somebody take the plasma cannon away from jamal"

Also, a lot of lore in the game is optional text, which may get skimmed over in coop
>>
>>180940246
>Old dual-core CPUs can run decades old forts with 300 pop at 20 fps.
Anon I don't know when was the last time you played because right now that is not true.
>>
>>180979461
>Also, in coop
Ha, so you played easy mode.
>>
>>180982706
I don't think it makes the game significantly easier
Sure it requires less micromanagement, but the flow of the new equipment is kinda poorly balanced

Once you get to enemies wearing shields/armor, you'll need decent plasma/laser weapons which you won't get until late game
So we've spent most of the time in stealth where having multiple people doesn't benefit you much. It's ends the game faster because everyone is doing different missions at the same time. 4 man team can probably beat the game in 6-8 hours or so, maybe even faster.
>>
>>180918390
Personally, the game related to me because of how mundane it was. I've family and friends permanently leave my life one way or another.
No matter how mundane and simple I've wanted things to go, there's always something challenging in the way, and the story really emphasized that in the old man's life. But it also had good memories, like the light house dancing scene, that makes life beautiful.

The game rougly follows the same mechanics that mobile time-wasters do: provides challenge-free, Skinner-box like gameplay, that locks progression behind arbitrary time locks, except it's completely pointless in Little Inferno since the game has no microtransactions

Also, during the game you interact with a little girl behind the wall, that's also playing Little Inferno, until her house burns down. Then your house burns down too and you end up on a street. Then you get some rather dull sequence about people "starting to live their lives" since they've stopped wasting their time on Little Inferno (which is probably a substitute for any activities that are considered "time-wasting").

It's a valiant effort but it doesn't excuse the game itself being kinda dull and the message being judgmental/patronizing/hypocritical.

I hate how the combat in this game is designed for gamepad
And I don't mean analog input during throws, game registers combos like ass on a keyboard because it thinks that you're playing with analog stick and expects you to hold directional keys and not just tap them.

It's not a dealbreaker, but makes some fights harder than they should be, and combo chicken in nearly impossible because of this

Also, yeah, memes. Why people do not understand that adding memes and random pop culture references to their games (movies, whatever) is a bad idea? All those "ME GUSTA" and grumpy cat posters look extremely cringey today.

Aaand the game is also extremely short. It's four hours I think? Unless you want to 100% it

>>
>>181023762
Nope, that sequence is a little weird. I'm not completely sure how it works, but it's something like this:

When the scene starts, you can have several options with the guard, including chances to lower the prices or get them in free.
But if you talk to the refugees, after that you can only pay the full price. If you leave or don't have the money, you'll need to talk to Aemolas again in order to pay.

Card City Nights 2 beta update http://steamcommunity.com/games/magickatest/announcements/detail/1348115354655795657

There is two new cards [Frog Fan] and [Lemon]
[Neo Dea] and [Fishbun Pileup] are no longer cards you can have in your deck.
A lot of cards have been tweaked.
Generally nerfed placement damage effects.
Generally buffed arrows and linking.
Tweaked some archetypes like bird, bun and jenny.

Added discard card effect.
Changed peek effect to look at multiple cards at once or at the opponents current hand.
Added pay token effect, if you can't pay the token the effect won't happen.

"It" effects ("transform it", "remove it") that refer to cards that've just been removed won't crash the game anymore.
Peeking at cards is a time'd action now.

Anyway, I played ARK, and Subnautica, but in both case, I'm a little pissed that you end up wasting ressources that aren't renewable.
For example, in ARK, you use flint and wood to make a spear, and once the spear breaks, it magically disappear. You can't reuse the flint or wood to make a fire.

I like that they did have a retire screen, but the thing I didn't like was that it only gave end stories to a handful of your mercenaries instead of all of them.

If you retire with a lot of gold and fame, I figure the ending reflects that, but apparently my ending was middle of the road. I like that my deserter warrior was able to find peace and acceptance among the general population again for helping fight a war for the nobles though.

Such a shame, it was a good game, but it needed more fleshing out. For all the grips people have about Darkest Dungeon, I like that the devs still develop tweeks and stuff for it even a year after it left early access.

>Because I can't decide which side will get more answers.

Just bitch about it being a SJW game because it has blacks and girls and black girls in it, which is unrealistic for a setting where you fight people by praying and tentacle raping them that always gets lots of bites.

I read if you killed Arnold, more Infinity guys show up to chase you off a cliff. There are also some Infinity guys I found who don't fight you, like a guy who is busy rubbing a pile of gore on his face. Interacting with him just gives you the message that he is busy.

Even if I killed all the killable Infinity NPCs, I'm sure we haven't seen the last of these guys and they will probably show up in chapter two.
>>
>>181063252
So you did fight all optional encounters and kill off all the NPCs in Downtown Olathe? Impressive, I thought the game was balanced so that it would be practically impossible to do more than half of the fights without running out of critical resources.

I really need to replay Pointless.

It's possible to kill the dynamite guy near the start of the game, he gives you a bunch of XP that makes the garbage island easier. It takes a lot of luck, but someone provided a save after he killed him.

There are also two NPCs you can farm SP from. An infinitized wheelchair guy were all the non-infinity gangs hang out, as well as a joy mutant you can fight if you didn't give it jerky earlier. This mutant cannot bite or seriously harm you, his main method of combat is to get you pissed. But you can still spam SP recovery abilities when fighting this monster, and run away if you get pissed, and then refight him again until you're at max SP again.

So using those two guys helps you start off combat with enough XP to go on the offensive right away instead of having to waste a turn or two recovering SP which helps you end fights faster (especially if Joel can scare the enemy in the first round) and save HP (and thus save healing items.)
>>
>>181065137

I still got two baby crows. The save I used spent the first baby crow on the dynamite guy, and I spent one before the Chaz mutant fight. Other than that, I usually just used the crows as soon as I found them, although sometimes I would reload when I did stuff like eating a ham with Lester (gives your party a full heal) and then immediately afterward went to the party (which also gives you a full heal, effectively wasting a heal.)

I usually reloaded when one of my guys died, unless it was a miniboss like Anaconda and the other guys the chef wanted you to take out. I used the wiki if I got stuck on a particularly hard battle, but I'm mostly playing blind, so don't spoil the ending for me please.

How can you receive Athazor's gift when freeing Galath in the Abyss, when Athazor himself returned to the Void hundreds of years ago and can't interact with the human world any better than the other five who were also banished?

It would make sense if the gift came from Galath, but Balzaar clearly says it is Athazor's will that is protectig you.

Nope. He gives you the Mind Shield ability when you set Galath free, and you can use it outside the Star Chamber as well. When you speak with Balzaar there he just shows you an image of Athazor, the same way he shows you an image of Darius if you use his helm, or an image of his old priests if you take the potion.

Athazor shouldn't be in any condition to do more than the others. Balzaar's buddy in the Arch mentions that both Athazor and Hassatur were bitchslapped hard by Balzaar when they all returned to the Void.

>>
>>181084087
Overrated by whom? No more than a million or two ever played them.
>>
>>181084739
Even worse. It means they're "classical games that everyone love but that are in fact too shitty to be played".
How pathetic that every faggot praise Torment despite it only being played by a small circlejerk.
>>
>>181084882
No, it just means they never had a big audience and outside of this small circle the games remained ignored.

Only people in rpg developer/fan circles feel compelled to pay lip service to these games even if they never played them, and it is done to cover up their lack of experience with the genre itself. But for example an Ultima fan would never feel the need to pretend they have played the game if they have not because they just never cared for them.

But have you ever heard an RTS or FPS player or developer ever go out of their way to praise Baldur's Gate or Torment? They don't give a single fuck.
>>
>>181085575
Why would they praise a shitty game? Get real.
>>
>>181086593
I don't care enough to argue with how you feel about these games, but the answer is pretty simple.

When you don't have much experience with something but want to hide it, you namedrop the few things you have heard about. In the rpg genre BG's few million sold copies is one of the biggest success stories. Fallout is well-known thanks to Bethesda. And Torment has the honor of being "one of those IE games" but still unique among them.

Seriously, this is not rocket science.

Gave Lemma a playthrough. Really cool evolution of the Mirror's Edge formula, but it's brought down by the fact that many of the levels are so large and open-ended as to fail to convey direction to the player. Will probably be more fun on a second playthrough now that I actually know where I'm going, though I guess it's sort of assumed that the player will be making multiple runs since most parkour game fans are into the "repeated attempts time trial" thing.

>>181115158
I did mention it before, but I think it is pretty interesting how that scroll dialog changed from the freeware version.

Back in the original, Niko would comment that a bunch of other people had signed their names on the scroll and that he wondered who they were. In the new version, Niko would have no comment whatsoever on the scroll but on NG+ he would comment that his name was already on the scroll for some strange reason.

Based on the fact that Niko learns about the vicious choice he'd have to make much, much earlier in the freeware version, the fact that the world was not stated to end instantly if the sun was shattered in the freeware version, and the fact that it felt like the Prophetbot was deliberately withholding information instead of being physically unable to provide the information because of his programming (taming only became a thing in the remake,) I think the implication in the original version is that Niko was not the first messiah to come to the world and that every messiah that came before him decided to return home. This implication was completely dropped in the remake in favor of Niko being the absolute one and only messiah and the fact that he had not been born yet was the reason the old world was doomed.

Ok, it is a very slight spoiler, but since it is really affecting you this much it shouldn't be a big deal.

"You can only play once" is not actually true. It WAS true in the freeware version, but not anymore. It is only something you are SUPPOSED to be unable to do within the narrative of the game. Being able to start NG+ is a puzzle not unlike all the other 4th wall breaking puzzles in the game up until that point.

I like the style of AoD but man if all that clicking doesn't give me carpal tunnel syndrome. Especially the crafting interface, gotta buy and decompose dozens of items individually to get enough material for one armor piece, and you have to click and drag each as opposed to just clicking

Though I must confess, the only reason I made them like that is because I tend to dislike romance in rpgs, I also dislike the trope of "MC has a childhood girl friend whom he hooks up in the end" so in order to not worry about having to stablish a romance between them, I made them siblings.
The fact that they canonically know each other since forever also helps in building dialogue, since in-universe they're used to each other's personality.

I know, it's just a bit of a personal thing for me, since if they weren't related I'd feel a little forced to end up having to make them hook up, but other devs/writers probably see things in a different way, who knows.
>>
>>181140723
You don't need to make a romance story just because the main characters are close male and female friends if you don't want to. You can make it so that by the end they're just BFFs, or they part ways so they can continue their journey separately, etc.

>>
>>181154970
what kind of game are you looking for?

The latter. None of the abilities are particularly interesting and neither the platforming nor the combat ever coalesces into something special. It's just another relatively competent Metroidvania.

Necrodancer is three dollars right now and it's great. Darkest dungeon is 10$ but might not be to taste. Va-11 Hall-a is 10.04, which might be over your budget. It's a VN, but it's a fantastic VN.
>>
>>181154641
I didn't have lag and there was always a server or two to play on. But it's all PvE.

Terrible advice. The game doesn't get ridiculous until more than two hours in. It's the classic story with Darkest Dungeon.

several hours later the shit kicks in and then they understand what everyone was complaining about.

Better idea: try a pirate version first.

If you end up liking it, you can buy it afterwards. Chargebacks are a hassle for all parties involved (the dev, steam, you)

>Not sure what I was thinking but I was going to suggest gog because their refund policy has more leeway.
Err, does it? I haven't checked it in a while, but last time I did it was pretty explicit about only giving refunds for system compatibility issues and bugs and shit. It specifically stated that they wouldn't grant a refund if you weren't willing to follow the instructions their support staff gave you for troubleshooting.

Sure, you could just lie and keep going "I did the thing and it still won't work", but I'm relatively certain you can only get away with that so many times before they go "yeah fuck off, refund request denied".
>>
>>181160846
14 days I meant but yeah, piracy is a better alternative if anyone is planning on trying to abuse a refund policy.

Going to a general of people that like the game to ask their opinion about it doesn't seem like you'll get an accurate answer.
>>
>>181161681
I've never been there but there are plenty of generals that are totally hostile to the devs

>>181161681

>>181159195
Playing Underrail is a good idea, but still, if you are interested in Darkest Dungeon at least pirate it and see it for yourself first. If you are interested in something trying it is always better than just blindly relying on the opinions of your fellow anons.

Lmao, dude, just slightly change the direction you're moving in once the projectile is out
In any case enemies barely deal any damage and the game is relatively generous on health drops, which is a rare occasion in rogue-lites
If you get wrecking ball it's insta-win because you can probably replenish 1/3 of your health each room for free
The game is baby-ass easy already, unless you get seriously fucked by RNG, and you want it to be even easier
