As for why I even ran her as a mage instead of cleric, I fell for the sword meme and forgot there weren't enough good blades to go around on Alm's route, so everyone was tinking on cavaliers and armors since I was ALSO doing a minimal encounter run at the same time. Needless to say this killed my turn count and resulted in a lot more retreats than I'd have if I actually bothered to run some of them as mages, archers, or even cavaliers.

on a flier team palla preforms better due to higher atk and better defense, as well as coming with a pretty good standard kit with no investment
caeda is only good with full investment and even then an equally invested palla is better

Put Fury on her and perhaps a different weapon if you don't want her to stay as a green check and she ends up with 34/37 Attack/Speed, while also having good health and defense. Why do people even want an FE5 remake? Even today, FE5 still holds up as one of, if not the best, game in the series. I love this series and I like the challenge, but having more options is good. Sometimes I don't have enough time and want to replay FE5 but can't because it would be too taxing on me.

Bows aren't really as much of a threat to fliers right now as people think, not to mention most Brave Bow setups kill everything equally rendering that threat less specific to them. Infantry with better movement and resistance to Poison Dagger is a huge benefit, especially when you factor in how big the bonuses are from flier buffs and how easy it is to spread stacked goads around. The red options are either the mediocre practical one, or a "starts out so awful you have to overhaul its entire moveset to be viable and get it with perfect IVs" one. Spring Camilla isn't even that amazing, but flier buffs turn her into a monster just because she has access to the only ranged weapon in their group, if I could move that slot to a red I probably would so I could have room for Minerva or something.

Honestly, the more I've been thinking about it, Clive actually does feel like one of the more human characters. He puts his faith in Alm, but later confesses to having doubts about his decision. And if you get Mathilda killed before she's recruited, he lets Alm have it, but is rational enough to apologize. He even acknowledges that he has some of the same biases as Fernand.
