this is just speculation because i've no idea how shields properly work, i don't know of any documentation about them and it's not straightforward like weapon reach is
from what i can tell shields with only weapon length have a circle of coverage, since the only value is width
if there's a height value then it draws a rectangle of coverage based on those dimensions
how it actually gets those dimensions i have no idea, because sometimes it seems to just double them and other times it does weird shit with them

Okay I'm almost giving up. Tried with only mono sounds and none of them play + game crashes when one of the enemies using them kill you for some reason. Stereo sounds work but with the problems mentioned earlier and also crash the game when the enemies get close.
None of this makes any fucking sense.
I'm gonna try replacing the new sounds with renamed vanilla sounds to see if it is the sounds themselves or the game fucking up.

Battle Brothers makes an acceptable substitute for M&B during this long drought to Bannerlord.

If banners gave some sort of buff to the entire army or those in the vicinity, sacrificing one unit may very well be worth it.
It would also be a tactical element if you make it so killing a bannerman not only negates the buff but has negative repercussions as well.

That's cheating in and of itself. In all honesty, if you bring enough arrows and don't do stupid shit like charging the enemy formation you can pretty much solo whatever the AI throws at you.
At any rate, a simple fix would simply be to stick the bannerman in the middle of the enemy formation so you have to chew through infantry first or outright leaving him with archers. It's not like you want what is basically an unarmed guy fighting in the frontlines.

Point is, having the banner just plastered to someone's back is retarded. As long as it's not something like that I'd be fine with just having a free guy carrying a banner just for aesthetics.

Well yes the plan was for the base infantry to have shortswords and pavises as well as some javelins.

Peltasts would get shortswords and the top tier javelins. Just sad there aren't slings as well.

As for cav was thinking their upgrades give them better armor and spears, but their downside is they never get good speed horses since they lacked the steppe and germanic breeds. Highest tier cav maybe gets good armor to represent the later Cataphract style cav.

This is complete bullshit though, you don't even know what "gameplay" aspects the standard bearer would potentially bring to possibly make that assumption. Any improvements to morale, and the name of the game, would imply banners would have some importance as to their presence in battle. A friendly banner nearby could be the difference between militia routing and holding the line.

I usually main as a khergit/rhodok and sarranid ill explain to you my meta that i take, this usually helps me conquer calradia twice (one for sanjar khan and then one where i rebel)
since you will be playing as a khergit you will need to know your advantages:
>since all your units are mounted you can out run all enemies you see in the worldmap (except for steppe bandits and desert bandits
>most of your recruits will have ranged weapons (whether it be javelins or a bow)
>since khergit villages tend to be closer to the towns - they tend to be really prosperous for your enterprises
>you can literally zerg rush enemies before they form up or get into a strategic position (depending on the mod)
some cons to being a khergit:
>your units will be shat on during sieges because they arent as armored as the enemies
>going agaisnt mamlukes and knights (especially on hard difficulty) will pretty much be game over for you
i cant really think of many more at the moment but ill expand this list as i go on
if you want to siege a castle or town just make sure you have a really high TACTICS skill and make sure you outnumber your enemy 3:1 (or you can just use autocalc and kill off all your soldiers :DD

Except for Narra, all their towns suck for domestic economy traffic, Halmar has few market villages, while Ichamur and Tulga suffer greatly from the distances travelled and Steppe Bandits harassing village market parties. But in general good advice, people undervalue the benefit of high Village reputation.

time to blog again: only khergit run anon, 2nd update.

I become a vassal of the Khan, with my 80 size army, half lancers half veteran horse archers. I was strugging because of my low income, but I manage to stablish 3 full brothels on top of my other 4 business and I was on the positive with that, not counting the occasioanl income from raiding villages at war. the Khan stopped war with the mudslimes, and start to focus on Dhirim, like really hard. We rush it and got it pretty easy. when I saw that, I just rush it on my own Reindi and Senuzgda castles, claiming them for myself, to stablish first pieces of land there for future strategic position regarding Dhirim. It was pretty hard to get both castle that fast and alone, with just khergits units. they perform not that well at all on sieges. after the conquest, I was strugging again to recruit, garrison and having a positive income. it was really really hard, but I need to say with dickplomacy your faction looks like they will help you more to defend, as some of my ally vassal came to help when my castles were sieged. when I was still strugging and trying to balance myself, our Khan just got crazyjewgreedy like an absolute madman: we declare war on vaegris, and got Khudan. then war on rhodoks too, just because, and they fucked my 2 castles, at the end I manage to recover them. all that while still being on war with swadia, and in fact our Khan even manage to conquer Sunno and some other castles in that zone. in this crazy time of overxtending madness I just focused on rebuilding my army and got Tilbaut castle. then, the sarrids declare war on us again. at this point, we were at war against 4 factions, with fronts everywhere: trying to retain Khudan from vaegris, trying to retain Sunno from swadia, trying to defend our mid map position of Dhirim, and suffering the south harras of the sarrids. and I saw there my oportunity: I will go all in for Reyvadin + Curaw, trying to conquer them alone and claiming them.

I knew vaegris were weak, losing wercheg to nords and trying to recover Khudan for us, so I got my chance to get 2 big towns right there. and I also knew our Khan will not attack me hard when I rebel, cause he was being fucked cause that overxtending (he finally lost Suno and Khudan, and Halmar got invaded and reconquered). my siege of Curaw was easy, but the one on Reyvadin was horrific. I lost half of my army. ofc the old fart fatass Khan didnt assign me Reyvadin, so I rebel and create my own kingdom. I got extra units from my old castle garrison, re assamble my army, and rush to Dhirim. it had weak defense army there, but my army was mostly shitty t2 khergit units, so again it wasnt easy assaulting the walls. I won, and from there, I just try to garrison and defend the my 3 big towns. I manage to do it, barely. and mostly, because I was doing fast trips to recruit from khergit villages, having really high reputation with them (I farm them in early game, because remember is a kerghit only run)

Im now more or less stable, with good garrisons and very healthy income (big towns and specially Dhirim and Reyvadin are great). now its time to get vassals. I was thinking to get only khergit ones, and on top of that, trying to do a familia/sindicate only. maybe I will cheat to get all family to 100 reputation and try to flip all of them to my nation.

about playing khergit only and myself as a horse archer... well, Im not that glad with this playstyle. in early game it was fun and refreshing. but got boring really fast, and then on this mid/late game state Im now, its just not good at all. high tier units from other nations are just better, plain and simple. and on top of that, Im tired as fuck of watching my horse archers to just do circles, running like crazy, and doing not that much damage. lancers are also pretty meh and weak. like I said, battles are not very fun :/

I don't think Narra is that great personally, I just said it was the best of the starting Khergit towns with regard to village market access, as it's in a pretty secure region with decent population.

But oddly, Dhirim is the best economic location if you can maintain patrols and keep peace. Only really long market town is Burglen (and the one by Kelredan Castle if you take it as well. Shariz is top-tier too, only distant market villages are the couple out east, but they usually aren't bothered by bandits that much. Veluca is good too besides the mountain bandits to the west, but you can keep most of the roads clear with a couple patrols (the worst part is that one village that uses the more narrow northern valley to come down to Veluca, that can be hard for the AI to patrol and be effective in).

I think you can influence your king in the decision making, but in native its a really shit mechanic. with dickplomancy (the only mod I used) is better, but still. because the main thing its having high persuasion and reputation with the king, this last being a pain in the ass. half of the quest he will give you are total crap, and then ofc the large period of times when the king/noble will just not offer any task at all. and there is when you use the cheat mode and add reputation manually with them.

about the Nords fighting back, well, it will be hard for you I think. nord infantry is superb, and they will try to regain a lot of your new land. thats mean sieges. and yes, nobody is better assaulting than the nords. my advice: try to have good garrisons ready, like even before to rebel. and prepare to defend sieges like a lion on crack.

Recruiting of custom troops is working, though for some reason there's 24 hours of no recruits being available before they show up the first time. I guess this is enough for it to be playable, so release today is certain. Just need to get the lords recruiting them properly; it works for garrisons but not the actual lord parties.

I dunno if you've seen the latest design, but there's no longer equipment unlocking per tier like the old one, instead there are funds allocated per tier to purchase equipment with and everything is available. So you could have super expensive armour but not much left over for weapons for example.

You can start defining them as soon as you become a king (which you can start as one of the character creation options). As far as changing them, there's very limited options to change the trees once set. Basically, you start with the option to edit the recruit. Any changes must be saved to show up in game. Saving stat allocations is permanent; once you raise STR and save you can't reduce it and spend the points elsewhere. You don't have to allocate everything in one go though, you can save changes with some skill points unallocated and come back to allocate them later. Equipment is much more flexible; you can add equipment, save, play with the troops, then go back in and replace it entirely. However, you can ONLY edit the recruit until you select the finalise option. Finalising unlocks the ability to customise the next troops up in the tree, but means you can't do ANY edits of any kind to the one you just finalised. It's all locked in.

Well I did buy space engineers very early too, when there was only building blocks and thrusters (and gyros obviously). But it's not the same case.
I never kickstarted a product so far and only "bought" early accesses/open beta. And all of them got a full release or a lot of progress.

I downloaded the modded 1257AD and while it seems to work so far, there is only one thing that bugs me.

I joined the Crusader States as a footman and we were sieging Damascus.

Our archers would just refuse to shoot while kebab was showering us in arrows and javelins. I tried to go give them the "Fire at Will" command (which I heard works on your own hired soldiers), but since I was a consript commands obviously didn't work.

1st design for my Caldaria female only blunt smasher.

the idea like I said on >>180718535 was a only blunt weapons army. I choose only female for that slaaneshi / high screams while bashing heads off type of madness. thats why the funny/edgy names too.

as you can see, I choose the 3 branches scheme. I choose gear also based on looks so its not always the best option but I think they are ok.
the 1st branch are 2h fast as fuck kind of heavy hitters crazylads. tried to max athletics, weapon master and powerstrike as much as I can, the rest on ironflesh. weapons: fanatics with sledgehammer, impalers with that spiked staff, zealots with great hammer and crazed with that 2h iron mace and funny helmet.
2nd branch are some kind of fast polearm cavalry, just trying to be unconventional. weapons are iron staff, awlpike and long awlpike
the 3rd and last branch, a more resistent 1h + big shield type of infantry, more based on ironflesh, but also good hitters powerstrike/weaponmaster. shiels are just the rectangular ones, weapons I think are spiked mace, flanged mace, military hammer.

any advice is welcome.

feedback so far about Custom Troop Tree for our based anon:
- after finalizing one type of unit, it will be hard to add an option like Check unit? just see what your stats/gear are for that unit.
- money and item balance: it feels a bit off. I dunno what process you follow to establish current vaules. my guess is you check all faction troop trees and got some average money/item from there based on which tier where? can you xplain to us how you setup the current values?
- some kind of saving setup: is that possible? a way to save/load/modify a tree, so when you start a game you can start from that base?

The wiki says balanced was removed from the military hammer modifiers and I think that was a mistake. Or it was a mistake for it to ever be available on hammers, maces, axes, and the like.

On the check unit stuff, I can consider it I suppose, but you can always just talk to any custom troop in the party screen and check their stats/gear the same as with any other troop. Was that all you were looking for?

Money and item balance I got from pic related. How do you think it should be balanced?

The saving setup is a cool idea, I have no clue if or how it can be done but I'm gonna look into it. I believe some mods give you the option to import/export companions? That alone tells me it should be possible, though I don't know how.

Not yet. As I said earlier, all I had time for with dickplo was a quick check if it compiles with the custom troops stuff tossed in and it did, so I uploaded and went to bed without checking anything. Should have more time to investigate the source tonight.
