It's a fucking terrible 'Faith' weapon, the only benefit you get with Faith on it is enough to use the Sacred Chime of Filianore and some healing miracles.

If you're making a pure melee build, why are you using swordspear anyway? Go 80 dex.

16/22/60 is so that you can cast while using a weapon that still scales with your stats. You trade optimal damage with swordspear for optimal damage while casting, but you don't lose as much as you would with a lightning infused weapon that has no native faith scaling.

Because Swordspear does decent damage at quality stats while having one of the longest halberd/spear movesets. A build for it is perfect for low Faith requirement miracle shittery.

>16/22/60 is so that you can cast while using a weapon that still scales with your stats.

Except as established Swordspear scales terribly with Faith, it'd be like getting a bare stats to wield the regular Dragonslayer Spaer and saying that's great for Faith just because it has native Faith scaling that's awful.

>but you don't lose as much as you would with a lightning infused weapon that has no native faith scaling.

That is objectively untrue. There are over dozens of other weapons that pair better when casting with Faith especially if you're planning on casting due to the Swordspears slower 1H spear moveset. A Lightning Lothric Knight Sword would cost far less in melee stat investment and would have better natural Faith scaling than Swordspear and would be a better melee option to keep out because it's a Straight Sword among many other better examples.

>>180523914
What does that mean? The Swordspear moveset is terrible for casting on a 60 Faith build, the 1H moveset is the slower spear one and the 2HR1s need a great amount of poise since Swordspear has weaker 2HR1 poise than every similar glaive-type attack with the WA being very slow and only safe to use in the start of fights. Once the buff is out you're left with a spear/glaive hybrid with mediocre damage that requires armor investment you likely can't get if you have dedicated caster stats. If you're a caster who wants to have minimum stats to use a weapon again something like a Straight Sword would be far better, or the Crucifix of the Mad King which is literally dedicated to pure Faith builds.

>>180524149
Yeah pretty much, that would be an alright build if you want super optimal damage actually. You'd need Chain most likely since your offensive stats would be wildly spread out but as far as gimmick builds work that's not bad.

Can anyone help me with a dex'ish faith build for sl70?
>>
>>180524465
>Or what that the difference between 26/0 and 16/22?

Do you mean 26/40? A base DSSS at 16/22/18 has 403 AR twohanded. Raising STR and DEX to 26 and 40 each raises that up to 500 AR even twohanded. That's considering the majority of the Swordspear's base damage is already pure physical. Optimally if you are ignoring raising Faith you just want that stat spread and using the WA which selfbuffs DSSS' lightning damage after using it for a limited time. Raising STR up to 40 does give it that 500 AR onehanded but it only increases it to 511 twohanded still so it's not that great an investment for 14 points. Now if you really want to raise that Faith putting it up to 40 or slightly lower to get just a little extra lightning damage while getting good heals out of miracles like Med Heal and just to use Lightning Arrow wouldn't be bad. Here's a basic build I cooked up optimized for this, edit it to your liking or desired SL: https://mugenmonkey.com/darksouls3/214253
>>
>>180524281
Your whole argument is basically
>"the faith damage scaling isn't higher than the dex scaling therefore I cannot possibly ever use it on a faith build, no way at all to do that, nope. Have to go pure dex nothing else."

That's like saying there's no reason to ever go refined longsword because you lose damage over an 80 dex sharp longsword. And if you truly believe that, you're a complete fucking idiot and care more about AR than an actual build or strategy.

But I'm not saying that at all, I'm saying Swordspear genuinely does not synergize well with Faith builds because the scaling is awful. Even in the mugen build I linked above raising Faith from 18 to 40, the weapon softcap, only raised Swordspear's Lightning damage by 18 points. It's more like saying you shouldn't use the Moonlight Greatsword on a STR-build with minimum INT just because it has some physical damage and STR scaling.

30/26 mlgs: 491 damage
16/40 mlgs: 553 damage

MLGS suffers a 13% damage penalty by leveling strength instead of intelligence, even less of a penalty than swordspear.

But instead of saying "swordspear has a damage penalty by using a faith build" you're saying it's completely useless and dismissing the fact that 15% damage might be worth the penalty in exchange for being able to cast by saying "well the moveset isn't good for casting anyway"
>>
>>180525846
Med Heal is really fast and since Projected Heal got nerfed is probably the best speed to healing cost ratio miracle in the game.

>>180525860
It's not just a 'damage penalty with a faith build' it's a severe lack of actual damage scaling given the investment you're putting in for it which is why you need at least decent Dex, otherwise why even use it compared to other things I've mentioned. It's not good damage at all on pure Faith which is why the best suggestion to go along with that one anons wish is some Dex/Faith hybrid.

It is useless for STR unless you're dedicating that STR to other things since a base 16/26 MLGS has 479 AR, meaning those 14 points of STR give you 11 AR only. That's perfectly fine if you're using it with other things but the point of my argument is that if you're leveling for damage it's not worth it which you seem to be arguing from a completely different and argumentative front. If you want to use MLGS and Swordspear in those ways nothing is stopping you, I am only pointing out there are more stat efficient weapons that you could use if you want to say cast miracles or use greatshields to go with them instead. That's just my opinion, no need to get angry anon.

First: Does anyone have the most recent tier list for it?
Second: I'm going STR for quite a bit of the playthrough until I inevitably go 40/45, but that'll probably be after a respec after beating the game. Is the Broadsword still a better choice over the Longsword? DS2 rolls are progressive so every change in equip % matters. DS1 and DS3 rolls don't, so you always start off the same with a "familiar" roll.

You get stronger by having more and better equipment options, leveling up is how you can equip more things. You are ONLY as strong as your weakest stat.

Use a torch in almost every area, there's some gimmick or mechanic in most areas. Turn brightness down.

Almost every boss is optional, focus on gathering lots of equipment, not rushing bosses.

There's 5 different paths from majula. Areas get harder the further away from majula you go.

It's the easiest game if you play it like a traditional RPG (collect items, explore dungeons, customize a lot) it's the hardest game if you try to play it like a hack and slash (rely on reaction time and min-max one stat)

Agility increases your roll iframes and item use speed, weight % affects your walking, moving, and rolling speed/distance. Level up adaptability and use light armor if you want to feel faster and less restricted.

Use the items the game gives you, don't just let them sit in your inventory.

Level vigor past fucking 27, maybe stop at 30. VIT is for wearing armor, knight lets you wear most of the stuff in game at base stats. Level up to 20+ and you'll be fine if you want to wear something heavier. Stuff soft caps at 40, but 60 is optimal for FTH and INT builds for maximum damage. STR and DEX are relatively the same since spike 1 with their 40 soft cap. However 66 STR or 80 Dex are the higher level caps.
>>
>>180530551
Level Vigor to at least 35.

Endurance you can get away with around 30 unless you're swinging an ultra.

Attunement is generally not needed on a melee build unless you really like using special moves.

Unless you need hyperarmor, ignore Vitality. Only equip enough to stay under 70% load.

Quality is shit now, either go 66 Str or 80 Dex.

If you're going caster, either get 60 Int for Sorceries, 60 Fai for Miracles or 40/40 for Pyromancies.

Luck is the Resistance of DaS3, don't level it unless you're doing a Luck build.
>>
>>180530551
>What does a build look like in DS3? I feel like the introduction of vitality makes it hard for me to understand how to distribute stats.

You can do a lot of builds in 3 and they are good. The only problems you would have is if you want to make a caster since that requires knowing the locations of damage boosting rings which are really crucial for casting and the locations of the spell tomes and merchants. Otherwise the best general builds you can do are softcapping an offensive stat to its second list, like 60/66 STR or 80 Dex, or softcapping two offensive stats at their first softcap ie 40/40 STR/DEX or INT/FAI. There are lot of weapons you can get for all sorts of builds I can recommend depending on what you want.

40 endurance in DS1 = 40 endurance +18 vit in DS3 (fast roll on 40 equip load)
40 str/dex/int/fth in DS1 = 60 in DS3
>>
>>180530551

If you mean a 120 build, 40 Vig, 40 End, then stats get a little different depending on what offensive tools you want to use.

Those aren't the best weapons but if you want to build for them I suggest infusing them with Sharp and going up to 60 to 80 Dex if you can. Or a 40 Dex + 60 INT/FAI buff build, again they are kind of mediocre but they're workable as PvE weapons.

60 in INT + Faith for the fire bonus cap, usually it makes more sense to have lower int and higher faith since faith gives you access to self buffs.
Grab the fire longsword in FotFG, the chaos rapier later on from Mr.SitsAndStaresAtWall in the huntsmans copse (or infuse literally any weapon that can be infused with Fire, then slap on Flame Weapon/Charcole pine resin and go to town)

The issue with pyromancy in 2 is that it scales off of your stats the same way Dark/Faith/INT does so it's not a no cost free thing it was in DS1, Flame Weapon needs NG+ or bonfire asthetic burning so your stuck with Pine Resins, but the merchant who sells those is on what is considered the hardest of the 4 lord paths.

The "optimal" build for DS2 is
DEX->Rapier->Espada/Red Iron Twinblade
STR->Mace->Craftsmans hammer->Kings UGS/Smelter Hammer
INT/Dark/Faith/Pyro don't have one since some boss or another is highly resistant to their element, with INT having the concession of an Enchanted MLGS for physical damage INT scaling.

That being said you don't need to be optimal in DS2, you just need to not be pants on head suboptimal, get stats that increase the softcaps on your chose stats, level vigor end and vit then go to town. A fire infused Grand Lance will do slightly more damage to most base game enemies than a normal Grand Lance, but slightly less damage to Reimu than a normal Grand Lance, but at the end of the day it doesn't really matter too much.

Can confirm not the case since I have a 144Hz monitor myself.

Make sure you change the line that says unlock FPS to 1 as well as the framerate limit to 60, then ingame hit backspace since that enables/disables the limit.

As for skipping one, you miss probably the best first third of any souls game, anything past that is kind of a mess and the game is limited by technical aspects.
Scholar works fine on just about anything EXCEPT MACHINES THAT CAN'T RUN DX11, with absurdly stable framerates.
As for understanding the story there are 2 approaches, one is to try and connect all 3 games together which results in a convoluted mess.
The other is to either view DS1 as it's own story, or view DS1 + 2 (since 2 has very little impact on 1 and doesn't really retcon that much) and view 3 as its own story that's living in a pocket universe.

If you play 1 then 3 will retcon the shit out of it
If you don't play 1 then a lot of 3 wont make sense because it relies on callbacks to 1's story

SOTFS is the best PC port in the series. You can run it on a toaster with high settings.

In PvE it takes far too long for them to come online as a Dex damage option, because Dex scaling is weaker before +10 and their base damage isn't high enough to overcome flat defence.
To use them early on in PvE you really only want them as a bleed option, and you'll need another weapon to deal with things where bleed isn't appropriate. 2nd half of the game if you've gone caster you can get away with buffing them as Raw. 80 Dex is NG+ stuff for PvE.
>>
>>180533893

DS2 KB+M is perfectly workable, the default binds are kind of retarded and shit though.
Every time you start the game go to your key binds then switch the setting that says "Disable double clicking" to "Enabled", the game will ask for a confirmation and then your golden, without doing that mouse controls will have around a 0.5 second input delay on every click because it's waiting for you to click againt to trigger a strong attack, the retarded part is that it defaults to on with every reboot, but the option says thats it's off, so you have to toggle it every time you boot, will take around 2-3 seconds once you get used to the menus so it's not a big deal.
Don't download mods for DS2, they can and will get you put into the "cheater" online pool

You can when you have 6-12 months to rebuild the entire game from scratch when only a few levels were finished and you have no overworld. That's what happened with DS2 when Tanimura had to take over. DS2 was an extremely understaffed, underbudgeted, rushed production yet they tried to make something twice as big as DS1 and DS2. Obviously there's going to be some oversights.

>Obviously there's going to be some oversights.
No you tit. Everybody knows the game had to be salvaged mid production, and was scraped together, but this being an "oversight" is nowhere in the realm of possibility.
A team, not a guy, a team of modellers and artists need to build this zone in the sky, create a lift shaft and line everything up with Harvest, create a moving lift for it, then a Q&A team needs to test the zone and the lift and pass it. You can't "oops" this.

It's reasonable to suggest Iron Keep wasn't originally intended to be there, and a decision was made to move it late in development. Although the drawn world map that shipped with the game has it right there. The decision still had to be made though.
I think it's likely that they re-imagined this as a kind of abstract transition, just like all the other abstract transitions in the game, to be hand waved as part of the fading memories / without ever really knowing why theme. It was an idea that was just poorly conveyed.

If all they wanted was for Iron Keep to be the volcano in the mountain directly behind harvest valley, with a literal transition, they would have just recycled the existing nest/eagle cut scene transition and dropped the player onto the bridge from the eagle, then delete the lift shaft. Done.

It's an oversight that the creative team didn't have their shit together and communicate properly to the modeling and design teams, so when the modeling and design teams decided that earthen peak should go up into iron keep the creative teams would create textures and a skybox for those areas that matched. I'm saying the creative team probably imagined iron keep inside a volcano rather than floating in the sky.

However, Earthen peak and and iron keep both had their own separate concept art, neither of which probably contained a transition between them. Creative said "we're going to make the world this way, connect the areas" so modellers threw in an elevator and didn't think twice about it. It probably wasn't until long after textures were applied that they realized that the elevator would make no sense and by then it was too late to change.

This isn't theory, this has been known for over a year. Ocelotte is ocieros's kid and his fight makes no sense since he was removed. Ocieros is going mad, and the mid-fight transition he kills ocelotte which is why he fights you without cradling something in his arms.

Who knows? Maybe it has something to do with showing bloody baby killing on screen being a bit too graphic. Could be an ESRB thing, could be Namco not wanting the controversy. Your shitty arguments don't make sense. DS2 is a souls game. It's made by the same company, using the same programmers, and the same core gameplay. Not only that, but it's made by a company that is -known- for dramatic shifts in tone and story between sequels. I understand not liking DS2, but trying to tell people to stop talking about it because you don't consider it a "true" souls game is fucking stupid, and no amount of theorycrafting about what miyazaki would/wouldn't do is going to change that.

Also, spoiler alert to ruin your fantasies:
Miyazaki is a SALES manager from Oracle who randomly decided he wanted to create video games one day, so he bought his way in with From Software by taking a massive pay cut. He only got promoted to the role of director because he was able to help get Sega to front the money for a PS3 dev kit, which the company didn't have. He then used that to create armored core 4, which was a massive sales disappointment for sega, is considered one of the worst armored core games. He then repeated the fiasco with armored core for answer, which sold even worse, causing the company to lose both Sega and Ubisoft as backers. He is not a creative director and does not have the entire "lore" in his head, he's a project manager who understands sales and teamwork. It wasn't until AFTER Demon's souls was half finished (without miyazaki) that he took over as a manager for the team. The visual style wasn't Miyazaki's doing, it was[ Makoto, and already established before he joined the project.

Sit down, shut up, and eat your goddamn vegetables before you spout bullshit.
>>
>>180544936
DeS looks pretty good for a mid-tier 2009 game. The textures aren't much worse than something from MGS4 or Uncharted and those had massive budgets. The only real downside to DeS graphics was that it was 720p. 2009 was a long time ago.
>>
>>180545887
Basically, the auteur theory is fucking stupid.

Dark Souls 2 suffered by being a B Team project with less resources and worse management. Not specifically because Miyazaki wasn't involved.

>>180546228

From doesn't have a B-team though, everyone works on every project like an assembly line. For DS2 and BB, that assembly line was split in half.

But while BB got Studio Japan and Sony contributing a massive budget and resources, DS2 got dick all from Bandai, and miyazaki put Shibuya and Suzuki in charge of DS2 (who had no experience with any games other than Another century's episode). It's not a "B-team" if it's just one or two guys being swapped.

Most of the people who came in halfway (Tanimura, Naotoshi Jin) are people that worked on games prior to souls and were mostly Miyazaki and Shibuya's superiors that were in passive managerial roles, rather than active game developers. A lot of them came back for DS3 also. They're definitately not a "B team" given that they were involved in every other successful From project (and more of them than Miyazaki and his relatively new group was).

>>180546512
>Making something and then hearing everyone rip into it like some folks like to do about DaS2 must be fucking depressing

From what I've seen this is almost exclusively a north american /European thing and in Japan DS2 is considered just as good at DS1. Part of this is probably because From has a huge cult following in Japan as a company whereas people in the west didn't know about From beforehand. "From Brain" is a thing there, where fans of souls buy anything the company puts out no matter what and praise it. The differences in sales between each title (and between Armored Core vs Dark Souls) are a lot narrower in Japan, which implies that it's more about the franchise/series love than love/hate for each individual game.

I dunno, but mobile gimmicks were apparently popular enough to warrant 4 armored core mobile spinoff games. I don't even know how you're supposed to fucking play it on a flip phone.

Model kits and merchandise for AC and Souls are also ridiculously popular over there, way more so than in the US, though souls seems to be more about books/manga/figurines/gimmicks than kits and spinoff games.

https://mobile.twitter.com/fromsoftware_pr
Example: one of the biggest things on their PR twitter is the release of a dark souls 3 sony xperia theme and real life rings based on dark souls.

Also, I should note that the sentiment in Japan is that pandering to westerners are generally the problem with From's games. JP complaints about western internet connections and lag is the reason why armored core became region locked, and a PC port for souls wasn't even considered until westerners petitioned for it.

Funny thing is that looking at their JP site again I noticed that they have the following staff listed (google translated):

>Representative Director and Chairman: Yasumi Yasuda (No idea who he is)
>Representative Director and President Hideaki Miyazaki
>Senior Managing Director: Masanori Takeuchi (lead producer behind their fantasy games)
>A director: Eiichi Nakajima (DS producer)
>A director: Naokihiko Kadokawa (Not sure, probably part of the Kadokawa family that bought out From)
>A director: Tatsuo Sato (mecha director from Kadokawa)
>A director: Yahagi Yoshi (No idea, probably another Kadokawa director)
>Operating officer: Suzuki Teruyuki (No idea. New hire?)
>Operating officer: Kozima Yuzo (Armored Core Director/Manager)
>Auditor: Yasuaki Takayama
>Counselor "God Naoyoshi" (Naotoshi Jin, aka From's founder, creator of Echo Night, Shadow Tower, and King's Field)

So it looks like Kadokawa has replaced most of the company's board. Miyazaki is president but they have a complete takeover of From's board.

Basically, the only thing that's being done is save editing, so you can't make "live" changes to the world. That means no changing models, no editing enemies, no crazy stuff. The NPC gear like Annalise's dress or Alfred's bloodied clothes is about the extent of what can be seen this way, outside of some potential unused consumable items, hunter tools, or runes.

It isn't so much Bloodborne that's been cracked as it is just PS4 save encryption.
>>
>>180550227
He has VERY distinct patterns dude.
When he does the ground slam in the first phase that's very safe to punish.

In the second phase when he does the stab, that's also safe to punish for one or two hits.

He definitely has patterns you can learn fairly easily
>>
>>180550112
He's not "supposed" to open the shortcut, he's supposed to show you that the barrels explode and you're supposed to put it together yourself and buy the firebombs from melentia.

The reason he seems to "get worse" is because the better you are at fighting the ironclad soldier, the less time the other guy has throwing bombs at you, so the less chance he actually manages to hit the barrels at the end of the way.

It almost seems like he's programmed to NOT throw at you when you're standing buy the barrels to deliberately give you the chance to blow them up yourself, but he'll easily throw at you when you're by any of the other exploding barrels.

>>180550227
Attack in-between his attacks. He staggers easily and you can chain combo him.

Just realize that he kinda adds +1 to his normal combos.
When he does a ground slam where you think he'd normally stop he'll do another.

Whenever he ends with a stab forward, that's usually punishable. I learned the third phase purely by repetition. It's also recommended to fight him in a slope with him above you so some of his attacks will just whiff over your head.

Nothing is confirmed except for the following:
>They are working on 3 new games:
>A Dark Fantasy Action RPG
>A reboot of a previous franchise
>Something "completely different"

Of those 3, the following is also known:
>As of May 2017, they still are hiring for a "Dark Fantasy" game
>Armored Core 6 is confirmed in Early Production
>Bandai has not announced any further work with From and instead has focused their efforts in-house on Code Vein, strongly implying that Bandai has no further games.
>DeS remaster or sequel is definitely confirmed not happening.

So it makes sense that the reboot is AC6, the dark fantasy IP is a new PS4 exclusive with Sony, and "something completely different" could be anything from a nintendo switch souls port to an everquest-like MMO, both of which the company have said they want to do (the switch port has even been tried, but was cancelled).
>>
>>180552114

pure intelligence Sorcerer. You don't get MLGS until late game, so you need some other damage options beforehand. Some things you should get early on, make sure you get the master key to help you get it:

>tin banishment catalyst (has high AR with it's normal attack) from blighttown swamp
>oolacile catalyst (most brokenly powerful sorcery weapon in the game. Gives you 30 int level damage for only 12 int equip requirements Buy from Dusk after killing the darkroot hydra.
>Second sorcery trainer (from lower undead burg)
>bellowing dragoncrest ring

With those three things, you can pretty much nuke the entire game using any sorcery you want. With the oolacile catalyst, Great heavy soul arrow will kill capra in ~4 hits Also casting oolacile catalyst magic weapon on a +5 longsword is higher damage than having 40/40 stats.

Once you reach mid-game it stops being as OP since oolacile catalyst doesn't scale, but once you get dark bead you're back to being a nuking badass.

Don't forget Uncharted, TLOU2, Death Stranding, Yazuka 6, Nioh, Gran Turismo Sport, and Uncharted all of which look like they are or are going to be solid games worth buying a PS4 for. Most of which are also given the BB-tier budgets and production treatment by SIE. Then there's a ton of other games like Nier Automata and God Eater that are exclusive but have shit PC ports.

Plus exclusive remakes/remasters of SOTC, Spider Man, and FF7, TLOU and Kingdom hearts and a bunch of PS1 classics.

Sony's problem isn't a lack of exclusives, it's the fact that all their exclusives are split across very different genres.
>Action Adventure: TLOU and Uncharted
>ARPG: BB and Nioh
>Driving Sim: GTS and Driveclub
>JRPG: P5 and Yazkua 0 or Yakuza 6
>???: Death Stranding (it gets its own genre because it's a special special snowflake)

Meanwhile PC has a ton of games in each of those genres, they're just not a good.

So basically the reason to get a PS4 now is because you want a guarantee of quality from SIE across various genres, and aren't picky about genre don't want to deal with shitty PC ports or messing with graphics settings for games. You're not buying it for the exclusive games, you're buying it for the exclusive PUBLISHERS, as well as for the convenience cheapness over PC.

Kadokawa is mostly a media publisher, including everything -except- video games. They're a rich family that owns a bunch of subsidiaries.

>Kadokawa games: Publishes/Develops Visual novels
>Kadokawa shoten: Produces Mangas
>Media Factory: Produces Anime
>Fujimi Shobo: Publishes light novels, tabletop games, and collectible card games

And now From, who produces ARPG Western style Mecha and Dark Fantasy games.

One important thing is that Kadokawa owns Newtype, which is the leading mecha magazine in Japan, and they published the Armored Core guide books and design works too I believe.

It's likely they want to use From to develop and publish more games and expand from light novels to full-on RPGs, while also publishing souls/AC anime and magna, which makes sense given that there have been multiple aborted attempts at an Armored Core anime and manga series in the past.

It's important to remember that while Souls is extremely popular here in the US Armored Core is still a lucrative and desired RPG in Japan. Half of the reason why Bandai got From on contract was because Amored Core For Answer was competing and eating into Gundam sales (which Bandai publishes in Japan).>>180557226

>>
>>180557785
Over-reliance on the bloodborne engine, overcompensation for the mistakes of DS2 and a failure to learn from the mistakes of DS1.

DS3's main problem is that to raise the overall quality level, they stopped doing what made them unique.

DS3 has Fewer player options, less customization, smaller games, more controlled progression, less immersive NPCs, and more linear hack and slash combat. This is the COMPLETE OPPOSITE of From's ethos. Their games (especially armored core) have always put immersive customization, options, and world design first and foremost and it's been a steady decline ever since Armored Core 4 was released, with a brief spike for DS2/ACV/ACVD.

Nah, I loved DS3. But it feels like it was made by a different company, it's way more hack and slash focused and doesn't give the players nearly as much control over the game mechanics as previous From games did. It also has a lot of weird arbitrary shit that never would have passed in DeS/DS1.

Read my post again. I think DS3 is the highest quality souls game, but it -feels- like the worst because it's a departure from the things that separates From games from other company's. DS2 is bad because it tried to over-do those things and ended up failing everywhere else. DS3 is bad because it didn't even try and just focused on being generically good.

AC4 had less gameplay customization than ACLR
ACFA had less gameplay customization than AC4
DS1 had less gameplay customization than DeS
DS3 had less gameplay customization than DS2 or DS1

As an invader, you should be good enough to fight those assholes.

Blues are terrible, and you have zero obligation to provide a straight-up battle. Strike, retreat, draw mobs into the fight. Pick your opportunities. Don't just fight 3v1 on level terrain, that's just asking to be flanked and ganked.

Ironic as it is, DaS3's policy of putting the invader at a massive disadvantage means that your average red is of a much better technical skill level because all the lesser invaders get dunked on so hard that they stop invading. Those who stick with it have to learn how to handle the 2v1s and 3v1s that they'll generally be encountering, and the best way to do that is to keep the fight moving across the map. Never stop dragging the host and his buddies along with you, don't let them have control.

Basically just don't let anybody turn it into a duel. If you find a lone host you can be as honourfag as you like, I personally only sip if the host does in a straight 1v1. Otherwise, all bets are off. Play dirty.

I've played pretty much every from game since 2002 and I like breaking them down, and if you want to talk about from's history or miyazaki or kadokawa or any other meta analysis about the company, you have to talk about more than just Souls or else you only get half the picture. Like how most of DeS/DS1 gameplay is stolen from Evergrace or how DS1 poise is identical to Armored Core's stability or how DS1's story is a direct mirror of ACFA, and how miyazaki has a consistent history of making games with armor types that don't mix together very well.

>>180558972
It's the fact that DeS progression lets you go to each archstone from the start, and difficulty varied more in type differences / equipment / strategy. Plus world tendency, which lets you tweak the overall difficulty as an in-universe mechanic (something only DS2 also did). Heavy/Sharp/Quality infusions also added a lot of gameplay variety. Your level also matters less than your class and equipment, whereas in DS1 your overall character level (regardless of what you leveled up, as long as it's not resistance) makes a huge difference in your character's defense and offense.

There are some things DeS does that are worse than DS1 though, like gender-specific armors, fewer movesets, and making item drop rates so rare that you couldn't upgrade a lot of equipment. It's close to a wash, but I'd say that DeS player agency is still higher than DS1, especially without the master key.

Since AC doesn't have an official PC port there's a lot of heavily encrypted/encoded data that can't be read easily. I can do some neat things like swapping textures and animations between weapons but the individual assets themselves can't be changed since there's no "file system", just a single encoded disc. It would be like trying to do what Zullie does but only having access to the PS4 disc, not the PC version.

Instead I'm putting my efforts toward re-designing the combat mechanics to modernize the gameplay a bit, improve the pvp with game patches, and creating a fan server.

I don't agree with everything he says, that's one of the things. DaS was the height of combat complexity in this series, the addition of poise made it so much more enjoyable. The video is about what was lost and what they didn't learn from DeS though, so mentioning it might have been a bit off topic.

What do you mean by "complexity"? To me it seems like DS2 was a lot more complex, though all the extra systems and stats and customization didn't always make the combat feel better.

DS3 definitely feels like a step back though, with a lot fewer systems and more emphasis on reaction time than systems.

>It's the fact that DeS progression lets you go to each archstone from the start

True but :
1. There's not much optional content in DeS. Every boss must be killed and every area has to be cleared.

2. You're trading relatively free progression at the start for a very linear endgame whileas in DaS 1 the earlygame is fairly linear and opens up into 5 paths near the end.

And the choices are fairly straightforward :
If you're a caster you want to do World 3 first, if you're a miracle man, World 4 to rescue Saint Urbain, Stonefang is required if you want to infuse weapons and so on.

3. There's a LOT less choice going on for casters. If you want to do any damage, you have to go for Sorceries and conversely if you want healing support (not like you need any because grass exists) you have to go miracles, there's next to no offensive capacity for miracle users, there's no separate pyromancy or dark magic.

10 out of fucking 10 bait, absolute gold, made me reply, take your (You)
>>
>>180560745

The basic mechanics are simple, the complexity comes from how you apply them. In DeS there was no poise, but hyper armour, so you couldn't interrupt certain attacks. If you replace HA with poise, it gives the player a whole new layer of strategy. The more you play the game, the more confident you get with finding the poise breakpoints. I think Ornstein is a good example of poise working correctly. If you keep track of the poise damage, you can interrupt his attacks and damage him faster.

So in DaS you have to keep track of the following things in combat:
1. The HP of the enemy
2. Your stamina
3. The range of your weapon
4. The speed and recovery time of your weapon
5. The poise damage

Is this accurate? This is the SSS with 60 faith compared to Anri's with 40 luck. Is the SSS really that useless? For reference a sharp Longsword has 400 with 40 dex.

CGI is disgusting, the short moments where it is/ looks like it is drawn 100x better

>>
>>180561641
so a reason SSS is better is because 60 faith opens up a lot of good options while 40 luck does not
>>
>>180561006
Yeah, I agree with most of that. It's 50/50. I'm on the side that says a difficulty structure and the effect of your choices matters more than the breadth of them. The difficulty and strategy of beating DeS bosses tend to vary a lot by what you have equipped, and you can multi-class a lot easier.

But within each class, DS1 offers more options. It locks you into a single class more easily though because of how important scaling is and how high equip requirements for spells are.

Because progression (and boss order from easy > hard) is based more on your options rather than your level or keys/doors, then it's more player agency, and that's what wins DeS out for me.

But if you're on the side that would rather play the same boss/level order, but with more variety in choices within each class, then DS1 seems better.

The difference in player freedom isn't NEARLY as obvious as DS2 vs DS3 or ACLR vs AC4 though, so I think it's just a matter of opinion that differentiates DeS vs DS1 for agency.

What poise do I need to comfortably swing a greatsword again?

And does it make a difference if I'm one-handing it?
>>
>>180561414
looks like we're talking about 2 different kings of complexity
>complexity of what you have to manage while fighting
>complexity of what you have to manage before you start fighting

DS2 is much more complex in the second category, but equal (or maybe slightly more) complex in the first. DS3 is much more complex in the first but simpler in the second.

But for poise specifically, DS2 and DS3 poise is definitely more complex to manage as you fight than DS1, since you have to keep track of also whether or not your poise is active, the poise regen rate, and the HA frames and poise multipliers of your weapon.
>>
>>180561045
It cannot unless latency is on your side or the opponent just doesn't roll/rolls poorly. Since the Pole 1H moveset has more range you can rollcatch with it after hitting a neutral 1HR1 decently if you can predict your opponents role well.

>>180561641
SSS relies on having some STR/DEX for scaling, it can't just rely on pure FAI. Anri's also has partial Faith scaling so it's getting a buff from that in your pic, look at its AR without that Faith and it is decently lower.

>>
>>180562153
>>180562229
My bad, it loses a whopping 14 AR with 15 faith instead of 60. It's still much better than SSS with a lot less SLs spent. Anri's has str/dex scaling too so that doesn't help your case.
>>
>>180562151

I would say DaS2 has more variety. DaS2 poise can be easily defeated by two handing your weapon. That's doing a single thing to negate an entire mechanic. DaS3 is certainly not more complex in combat. In DaS3 you don't have to mind poise and the speed of your weapons as much as everything is fast. DaS3 "poise" is too convoluted for what it does. It boils down to the question: can I trade with this attack or not.

Anri's scales with faith but it scales more with strength and luck, so faith is not worth leveling until you're at 66 str and 40 luck probably. Faith only gives 1 AR for every 4 levels.

A proper comparison would be 34 strength and 40 luck vs 12/12/60

>363 + full miracle casting and great WA buff
>415 + item drop rates and higher bleed build up

SSS is going to be better in pretty much every situation since it's WA buff alone makes it comparable for damage and you can also cast lightning blade on it

>>
>>180563297

>>
>>180563118
Regular Claws. They have slightly less damage and range than Talons but they make up for it with having the standard fist running L1 which is the best regular attack in their arsenal. Claws running L1 is absolute dogshit with one of the worst hitboxes in the game. In regards to WA the Claws have a faster version of Onikiri & Ubadachi's WA with less recovery on the landing while still having hitstun. You need 30+ poise to tank through most things with it but landing a full headshot is always able to be followed up by an L1 and potentially a second L1 leading to insane damage. Crow Talons WA by contrast has far more start-up and won't hit anyone that isn't just spammimg attacks with long recovery times.

>>180563375
Then you're better off just going 27/40/16 with no faith investment and using SSS offhand to buff a sharp longsword+resin if you don't care about miracles, incl. lightning blade.

Anri's is alright for a backup stance weapon on a luck-rouge bleed build, but since it has no dex scaling it's generally going to be inferior than most katanas or curved swords. It's only really there for pve since it gives luck builds passive regen and a physical damage scaling weapon without needing hollow/blessed infusion first.

Main story + DLC average to completionist
>DeS: 52 - 90 hours
>DS1: 66 - 115 hours
>DS2: 66 - 123 hours
>SOTFS: 67 - 107 hours
>BB: 35 - 78 hours
>DS3: 44 - 81 hours

DS3 is notably shorter than the other games. Also weird that DS2 has more content but completion time isn't longer than DS1, probably due to the fact that most of it is optional. SOTFS's faster average completionist time probably comes from players that already completed DS2.

Is Blind Spot from this bad boy parryable?
I met like five people in arena that tried to parry it, all of them failed. My friend tried to parry it, failed.
The skeletons with perfect input read parry didn't even react to it, just shattered.

Seems kinda random for Blind Spot to be non-parryable if Shield Splitter is, and they are pretty much the same except the hitbox is different. Also every non-ultra non-spin weapon art is parryable.
The Blind Spot does the same damage as a Longsword at 410+ AR R1. And it combos into 2HR1.

Seems to good to be true but people are caught by surprise with it.

>get ring of binding
>20 int / 24 fth, get the sunset staff and chaos from Felkin the outcast. Cast dark orb at everything until it dies.
>put ALL your other stats into endurance, ADP, and health
>beat last giant
>get grand lance
>no man's wharf, use a torch to make the hard enemies run away
>go to lost bastille, unfreeze straid using your fragrant branch
>buy great magic shield and dragonrider greatshield
>spend all titanite you get upgrading your lance
>spend all twinkling titanite you get upgrading your staff

CONGRATS YOU ARE NOW STUPIDLY OVERPOWERED. Just hang back and spam dark orb on enemies. If they get close, block with your 100% reduction of all damage shield at 77 stability and poke them with your 500 damage per hit grand lance.

for bonus mode:
>get the leo ring for your lance, infuse it with dark (farm basilisks or trade with the crows for a darknight stone) and cast resonant weapon on it

Buffed infused Grand Lance with leo ring will regularly hit for 1200 damage against most bosses, and will stagger, and can be poked from behind a shield. Dark orb has enough casts to kill most bosses without ever having to engage them directly. Dragonrider shield with great magic shield trivializes all bosses in the game as long as you have high enough endurance.

>>180567192
Strength builds are the best in DS2 than in any game because ultras are godly and the slower paced gameplay means you have more time to wind up for heavy hits.

But your strength stat barely matters. What matters is the weapons you're using. If you're using a longsword, investing in strength doesn't help because that just gives you a little extra damage. But at 50 strength you can wield fucking awesome weapons like the Greatsword, Dragon Tooth, power stanced great axes, etc. Builds are about equipment first, stats second. Scaling in DS2 is weak, 10-50% damage increase or less compared with 50-150% in other games).

Also, the faster you try to get through the areas, the worse the game is going to feel. Most of the game is built around you finding equipment and items that you need to make the area easier, so if you rush through and miss those items, you will just end up making the game hard and un-fun.

Since you're already in shaded woods, go find the Head of Vengarl. He sells the Claymore and Greatsword, the Greatsword is probably the best strength weapon in the entire game. Greatsword + Drangleic Set + Drangleic Shield is the default newbie "easy mode" build.

My advice is to try to go for a 50% equip load Greatsword wielder, and put the rest of your stats into health and stamina. You'll be fast and kill everything in one hit.
>>
>>180567675
>>180567192
Also by "go somewhere else" I meant that most of the game is optional. If you don't like an area, don't rush through it. Go literally anywhere else. There's always good stuff in every area but you can't rush them, so either take your time with an area, or just skip it altogether.

The first 80% of the game is completely optional, all you need is 1,000,000 total souls acquired and you can go to the endgame.

i mean like for real
do i need dex for my strenght build, how much stamina is recommended how high should i level adp and so on
>>
>>180523553
10 dex plus sage ring +1 gets you max casting speed or 15 dex and the base ring.
>>
>>180569420
>listening to/trusting DaS2 babbies
You should have known better.
>>
>>180569861
You only need what dex is required for what gear you want. So if your weapon requires 10 dex, get 10 dex. If you want to powerstance that weapon, get 15 dex. For stamina, I usually pump END until I hit 120 stamina or so but that will change with stamina-adjusting items. It also depends on your weapon and fighting style. I always use greathammers so I just swing twice and lose my full bar of 150 stam.

You really have to just feel out your stats based on what playstyle you want to do.

Also I've never put a point into ADP so I can't comment on it.
>>
>>180569861
Get only enough Dex to be able to power-stance what you want. If it doesn't require Dex, don't level Dex or respec out of it.

Stamina literally soft-caps at 20, but if you're using big weapon you want more than that, closer to 40 if you can spare the points.

Level Adaptability until you have 96 Agility. You can maybe get away with 92 (or even less if you choose to rely on a greatshield), or go up to 99, 100 for the extra backstep i-frame.
>>
>>180569332
Using a greatsword as a backup weapon is wishful thinking with a build like that. Not really sure why you want to be an int build at all, to be honest. I guess you want crystal magic weapon?
>>
>>180570012
I dont need max casting speed.
Just casting CMW isnt a hassle for me, mercury is for bosses and zoning, GSA is just filler for a decent spell to provide utility somewhere.

As you might have guessed, some weapons can be used in power stance, but not all of them. The link above includes a chart that shows what works and what doesn't. At the same time, you need about 1.5x the Str and Dex needed to wield the weapon normally in order to actually Power Stance.

You should level your intelligence and faith a bit. Low level miracles are extremely useful and 5 to 15 int or faith will cut the damage you take from elemental attacks to 1/3rd.

The rest seem fine for now. Even on a pure strength build with no casting, 20 strength and 15 int/fth is better than 40 strength and 5 int/fth because of the elemental defense you gain.

Try to get 12 faith for the heal miracle (which is like having 3 free estus) and 18 intelligence for great magic shield.

>Does that mean DS3 has every weapon from the past games?
Usually the "basic" weapons (the ones most reminiscent of real world weapons) stay even dating back from Demon's Souls.

For Dark Souls, they kept most of the "iconic" and popular boss and unique weapons in, added a bit more in each of the Dark Souls titles.

Not "every" weapon, but most of the important ones.

Personally one of the reasons I'm looking forward to a completely new I.P is From having to come up with all new stuff for the unique and fanciful weapons (although you bet your ass the MLGS is going to be in it) and if they're doing another medieval like realm some day they'll use the basic weaponry but have to do all "unique" weaponry new again.

I was kinda sick of seeing returning stuff from DS1 in DS2 without any real justification for it(like the Black Knight shit)
>>
>>180581206
It is. But if you're going to be using Dex weapons you won't need nearly as much Endurance since you're not eating up a third of your stamina bar with a single R1.

If you're ever going to go above 40 Dex, there's no reason to stop anywhere except at 80. And if you're not going to go over 40 Dex, then you may as well just make a quality build.
>>
So what the hell is the point of using any other than the physical damage infusions in PvP? You can just buff with resins, and the elemental infusions are nowhere near as strong as in Dark Souls 2.

It doesn't.

I've been hacking in endgame fashion and weapons to use on my 35-65 invasion characters for ages and never even received an invalid data warning.

The game does not give a shit about most items if they can theoretically be obtained by drop trading. If they can't be obtained by drop trading, that's when it starts getting fussy. You can't give yourself keys or important items without it flagging the shit out of you. Weapons, armour, rings and consumables are almost 100% safe, spells are mostly safe too.

DS3
Easily the most offensive and defensive options available at a reasonable time.

DeS has next to none offensive miracles.
DaS1 makes it a huge bother to gather all the shit you need to cast shit especially since getting into the Sunlight Warrior covenant requires a ton of faith or co-op in a mostly dead game. A bunch of good miracles like Darkmoon Blade and Great Lightning Spears require you to be in a covenant to use and there are more than one covenant so you're always locked out of some good covenant miracles.
DS2 had otherwise really solid miracles and the way the infusion system worked made FTH really good until it took a nerf in the dick.
Dark Souls 3 has a wide range of usable shit, due to fp, regen and Ashtus you don't have to worry too much about the limited cast. The worst thing for DS3 faith is getting Darkmoon blade.
>>
>>180586235
>Ring swapping for spells in PvE in general
I don't understand, isn't the entire point of limiting yourself to a certain SL to have more of a challenge, so whats the point if your going to just negate that with inventory fuckery anyway?
>>
>>180585683
Dark Souls 1 and 2 allowed you to put on heavy armor, upgrade it to full and just laugh off enemy hits due to how poise worked in those games.

DeS had a similar "poise" system to 3 but it had some beastly heavy armour (the Brushwood set and Dark Silver Armour). Overall DeS kinda had jack shit for armour variety though.
>>
>>180586123
I usually play pretty nimbly cause i'm used to BB. So I generally try to dodge everything. Shield goes up just in case I mistime something or as a bit of insurance. So I'm not sure if I should continue doing this playstyle with a light 100 physical shield and some armor or a great shield and little armor.
>>
>>180586474
never played faith before. is it just using miracles or buff yourself or is it more like a caster where everything is done though miracles?
>>
>>180586559
well isn't that the entire point of those rings?
i dunno what else to do with knight's attunement slot, could use regen I guess but it's pretty weak compared to tears
>>
>>180586994
Nah I mean I just don't get the mentality, if I want to use a miracle I get faith and use a miracle
If I want to do a challenge melee only run I'll not use miracles

What's the point of limiting yourself to using spells but only if your willing to fuck around with rings, your just inconveniencing yourself so I don't get why bother with it, even if you want to stay at a certain SL then surely you can afford to sacrifice 100HP or 30 damage just to be able to cast the spells your going to be using anyway.
I get it for PvP because that's how matchmaking works, but doing it in PvE just seems redundant.

Yeah I'm doing it now just because my build isn't finished and I'm trying to figure stuff out. I have 3att slots too and I'm not even using them all. I also use the ring so I can wield earth seeker. I can take 4 points out of att, one out of dex which im not using either, and put them in faith for tears. I also see knights using force but i don't really get when it's useful besides knocking dudes off cliffs.

I wouldn't say it's redundant though, tears is incredibly helpful against bosses, takes two seconds to ring swap.

So, I'm finally getting dark souls 3. I had played the shit out of the first two when they came but for whatever reason just never got around to playing 3, and I just have a few questions
Are sorcs/pyromancy viable in pvp or is it like the old games where you just get faith for buffs or go quality/str/dex?
Are the thrusting swords any good? Favorite weapon in dks1 was an estoc, but I heard they got nerfed
Thanks in advance!
>>
>>180589130
You are just poor
>>
>>180588023
I've been playing through again and noticed that the different attacks are really useful in different situations. Before I got the Longsword, the Broadsword's R2sb cleaned up the horrendous ganks that are in the FoFG, but the Longsword's thrusts were amazing in the doorway in the Loat Bastille because you can bottleneck them.

The game certainly has very glaring flaws that I hate, but it's nice to see the better parts as I reply it. If you're not too far, make sure to do some good old Bell PvP. It's fun and nets you a lot of Titanite Chunks. It also seems to still be pretty active. I think I got my SM just a bit on the higher side for Belfry Luna, but I still get matches pretty often.

>Are sorcs/pyromancy viable in pvp or is it like the old games where you just get faith for buffs or go quality/str/dex?
Both are viable but both require at least 2-3 dedicated ring slots at all times for casting speed and the rings that are a big part of your damage since spells are designed to have a bunch of ancillary gear to boost them to reasonable damage levels. For sorcery your bread and butter spells are fast spammable ones that allow you to zone out your opponent through Homing Soulmass and Great Farron Dart along with others. You can also be a memer who just spams Crystal Soul Spear hoping it hits enough times to kill anyone competent.

Pyromancy has very few pvp viable spells but the few it has are amazing. Black Flame is your bread and butter damage dealer, great damage and close range hitbox especially paired with the Pyromancer's Parting Flame from Ariandel. Fire Surge is nigh unpunishable and is perfect for chip damage or finishing off opponents. Chaos Bed Vestiges is probably the best spell nuke in the game in terms of speed to FP ratio and is generally what you use at long range or to punish long recovery frames.

Thrusting Swords are generally good, the Estoc is the best in the class still due to a combination of range, physical damage particularly on an 80 Dex Sharp build and Leo Ring counters without a sweetspot. In my opinion it's overrated by some since Straight Swords and other faster weapons can generally do what it does but with more versatility but an Estoc turtle is still annoying to deal with on a good player.
>>
>>180586990
Mostly support and buffs but starting from DS2 onwards excluding BBZ you can play as a full offensive miracle caster with relative ease.

Also can someone tell me what's up with the dumb engraving puzzle from TRC? I thought that the solution would be to mimic a ringed knight statue and bring it to the place of the broken one but that does not seem to work. Would appreciate help here

Step into the swamp area right outside the bonfire. When your character has their feet touching the swamp water use a Young White Branch repeatedly. You'll know when you get the right result then just head back to the engraving.
>>
>>180578198
Regular rapier is one of the best weapons in the game, only outpreformed by the espada and Red Iron Twinblade really lategame.
That being said you can take basically anything slap on magic/enhanced then buff with magic/greatmagic/crystalmagic and go to town, which will carry you through the game, might not be the most optimal way against certain bosses, but you should never hit a brick wall of "I am literally dealing 0 damage".

>>180588919
That's kind of what Dark was supposed to be.
You have to level both INT and Faith to get a good dark bonus, this in turn gives you access the majority of sorceries and hexes AND fire scaling to boot.
Just don't cap at 30/30 or something meta related like that.

Holy fucking shit capcha would you fucking calm down, you have to skip over 5-6 full image no solution captches before you are allowed to do an actual one that counts, and then it's always one of the shitty "click on a car, now wait 5 seconds for a new image of a car to fade in, repeat 5 times", even then it just randomly fails for no reason

Sorcery is pretty bad in 1v1 PVP and easily inferior to strength builds at the lower levels that are popular for invasions.
Pyro is okay, the spells have nice hitboxes, great damage and the infusions are pretty good. It takes a lot of investment to max out though.

Estoc is still pretty nice.

I'd argue that just the greatsword and greataxe are worth, considering they have unique movesets.
a tradeoff for their moveset is that their overall damage is relatively low because they deal additional damage to demons

Brief rundown on poise for PvE

Weak attacks deal your weapons poise damage, if the enemy has 60 poise, your weapon does 20 poise damage, then every 4th R1 staggers (poise is another invisible HP bar that deplets when hit, it regenerate but every slowly, will instantly refill when poise gets broken)
Most Strong attacks and Rolling attacks will deal incrased poise damage and STAGGER the enemy UNLESS they have "hyperarmor/hyperpoise" that is gained during big slow weapon swings.
2 handing a weapon significantly increases the amount of poise damage it does per swing

What this boils down to in PvE is that even very very low poise damage weapons like Rapiers (10 poise damage) can stagger most enemies that can be staggered with just a single 2hander R2
Weak attacks are slightly faster and therefore safer to use
Strong attacks are slower but almost always stagger enemies

40/40 is best so you can go sharp infusion + greatshield and also gets you the most damage with boss weapons like Farron and Gael's Greatsword, since they can't be sharp or heavy infused.

If you aren't using greatshields and you don't care about unique/boss weapons, then you should go strength.

60/20 isn't a quality build. It's a pure strength build (66/16) with 4 wasted stats.

Basically every weapon in the game falls into one of four categories:
>not infusable, native elemental scaling (40/40 with that element)
>not infusable, best on 40/40, 66/xx or xx/80
>infusable, best at 66/xx or xx/80
>infusable with native elemental scaling, best at 40/xx/40 or xx/40/40 or xx/xx/60

16 strength minimum for splitleaf greatsword and 16 dex minimum for astora greatsword are common.

>>180591629
Requires some upgrades, make sure you are 2 handing it.
What makes rapiers DPS kings is that you gain good base damage from upgrading it, decent scaling then slap on a Ring of Blades and Leo Ring, now enjoy your fast as fuck stabs that consistently do around 2 times the listed AR because of the absurd boosts that Counter Damage gives you.
Good parry frames to boot too.

The only things that really come close to challenging it are things like the Grand Lance (which takes far more stamina to use and is slower, but does have better base damage with an even higher counter damage), the espada (which is a straight up upgrade), the red iron twinblade (which is lategame and requires really good knowledge of enemy and boss moves since it doesn't have a handy as fuck poke).

Given the weakness of scaling, ease of infusion, and the wide variety of enemy defenses to different types, DS2 seems really based around changing up your equipment to suit the situation, and specializing in one area will get you better results but cripple you against the 10-20% of enemies that counter your specialization.

Nah man get HP, you will not enjoy getting 1 shotted by everything, especially with the 50/20% HP penalty from hollowing.
Also get Agility (increased by ADP and attunement) up to 92, 96 and 99 are preferable (gives you more iframes for rolls, kind of stupid but its the way the game was made)

After that do whatever, a healthy amount of DEX and STR will give you more weapons to use which is nice because dedicated casters aren't that great lategame, especially the DLCs so might as well get melee experience in early.
But again to emphasize, you can take almost any weapon, slap on an infusion of your magic type and then buff it with the same element and it will result in good damage.

You get access to infusions in the Lost Bastille, the easiest way is to beat pursuer, take his bird nest, move along the area until you hit stairs that has an explosive barrel and a giant right at the top, rush past the giant from behind, push the barrel down the stairs and light the bonfire it opens up.
